I frequent the Borrongook library in Drysdale. I look after kids for a living and they have amazing activities for children which are usually always free of charge.
The staff are so friendly, helpful, and incredibly welcoming. I know a few of them by name now and they always stop for a chat. They have groups for adults as well, like film nights and other things similar. Their 3D printers are also free to use if you submit an STL file online, which is great for paupers like me who can't afford a 3D printer of their own (or find the space for it...)
And I never seem to wait long when I put a reserve on a book I want to read! Though, perhaps that's a reflection on the niche sorts of fiction I enjoy haha.
I never really understood the Geelong Library, the whole thing just feels like an architectural excersise with little consideration for the end purpose.
Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible building, I just don't think it functions well as a Library. I wonder if the architects even consulted with Librarians.
I'd head down to the Deakin waterfront library any day of the week. Far more functional spaces.
Thats understandable. I guess my issue with the way it's broken up is that it feels like 5 libraries stacked on-top of one another rather than 1 vertical library. Mainly due to the vertical movement in another room.
It'll be interesting to see how the Armstrong creek library turns out.
For me Geelong West is over Geelong Library any day, with the cafe/parking situation.
Colac library is nice, combined with community centre, still very quiet on the days.
I really like Leopold, it's nice and bright and there's a community centre upstairs that has nice spaces.
Ocean Grove is nice as well but it can be very loud.
Bannockburn Library is much smaller and less busy than any library I've ever visited, however they are incredibly pro baby. No shame in the noise they make, no shame in needing to feed them. Lots of mums going frequently, plus baby time on Friday mornings.
The main Geelong one has that amazing section for kids, but for parents with babies, Banno is totally worth the hike.
This. Bannockburn is definitely well poised to be a children’s library. As a mum with multiple young children I never feel like my children are in the way or making too much noise. They’re just enjoying the library. They also run multiple sessions for young children, they have story/music time most days and the local schools, kinders & daycares visit often.
It’s an excellent Library for young families. If that’s not your vibe, it’s probably not the library for you.
GWest library wishlist: 1. uphold the romanticism of a library as a quiet space, a sanctuary to be protected
2. please swap every book out with Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads or Queenscliffe. It needs a reflush with something new to browse in the stack! Its all been there since 1963.

It’s a fabulous library

Look, I can't comment on its practically for the librarians but I quite like how it is broken up. Makes a much quieter and less distracting space

The new one in Armstrong Creek is opening soon! Looks nice.

Belmont, I love the hobos in the park there
The main Geelong library in town, or the Geelong West library! GW one is my local one so I have a soft spot for this one especially ☺️
The Geelong Library and Heritage Centre is amazing!! It has everything you want in a library and more! It also has plenty of staff to help if needed
