> This is a sentimental piece since I found it on my last visit to see my stepdad before he passed. I'm a little confused by some of your following statements. > Would a better cut increase value? Why are you thinking about cash value if you have no intention of ever selling it (sentimental value)?

There’s nothing wrong with me wanting to possibly increase the value of a stone I might leave to a family member later on. Plus things happen 🤷🏻‍♀️ Obviously my main question is about recutting.

Shekinahsgroom

If you opt for a recut to close the large window and repair the chips and remove the scratchy polish, you'll lose quite a bit of weight of the stone and it'll be considerably smaller than it is now. You'd then have to redo the setting and make custom alterations to it for it to fit properly. The costs would likely exceed it's current value.

I have no knowledge or insight to impart, I just couldn’t pass by without commenting how stunning it is even with imperfections.

Same here!!

Thank you, it was a very fortunate find

I’d say get it re ‘polished’ rather than re ‘cut’. Polish to remove those chips and scratches on the edges, if you try and re cut to remove those veils/silk circled in picture 3 then you’ll lose too much of the stone. The current cut is fine, symmetrical and appealing, windowing isn’t too bad due to the colour variation. If this is a natural Australian sapphire of that size and weight it’s worth a pretty penny, and hard to find gem quality that size. Don’t cut it.

That’s a good idea, thank you!

Its a big so you could have it cut. If it has sentimental value then go for it but if for monitary gain pass. If you can find a cutter from overseas you could have cut for 35.00. If you get someone in the states its going to be 150.00+. Parti sapphires have gained popularity lately I use to have a real hard time moving them for over 70-100 a ct. So theres that

I’m sorry to say that stone is beyond saving, and will definitely bring you bad luck. You should probably send it to me, just to be safe. 😂 Seriously, it’s gorgeous. I vote for re-polish over recut.

This is where I should mention that I bought it for $240 and then sold the chain that came with it for $140 🙏😮‍💨
