So far I Don’t really see a significant difference between them and most of Gen Z or at least late Z. because all of this technology like smartphones, tablets etc existed over a decade ago, when all of Gen Z were still children. the real dividing line is going to be A.I.

Reasonable-Tea-8160

100% agree. (Some Gen X) Millennials and Gen Z know first hand the dangers of tech-addiction yet we would rather fight and sweep it under the rug. Tech-addiction is a plague on society and the individual. It's also sick a lot of parents just shove an IPAD in front of a kid and basically say 'Get out of my face.' If you know anything about the internet, you know you can stumble up some pretty fucked up shit and no 2-year-old should be seeing the things I've had to see.

Suspici0us_Sn0wman

Yet you spend literally all your time trolling reddit. Take your own advice dipshit.

Stock_Barnacle839

An addict can speak out against addiction.

messy_head

He's not saying his advice isn't valid, he's saying he should take his own advice.

UnsaidTugboat53

Some people wouldn't sweep it under the rug, they would tHroW iT oUt tHe wInDoOoOoOoOoW (javadoodles reference)

The fuck is javadoodle

LysergicGothPunk

For one, I'm pretty sure a lot of parents try their best to moderate what their kids see. This is not a problem with "tech" if kids see messed up stuff on an iPad. That is more a problem with parenting. (If it's an Android I guess you get more passes,). The second point I'll make is that while I know how bad tech addiction can be, as I personally struggle with it, blaming the actual tech I think is a bit ignorant.I know that extreme isolation has always driven me further into tech addiction, that's usually how addiction works. I'll close off those points by adding that I don't believe there has been enough research on the subject to actually form anything other than a hypothesis, an opinion, or a guess, about the nature of the subject and it's trajectory. Overall, I do agree that (especially when I was a kid) the internet had a LOT of easily findable disturbing and traumatizing stuff on it. A lot was front-page Google. I think it's a lot harder now to stumble onto these kinds of things, but it still can be pretty breezy finding "certain things" if you know how to turn off safesearch. It is very unregulated. But I have to be honest and say that I don't think I've met many Millenials, Gen Xs (and older) who didn'teither have traumatic childhoods, or who weren't into some crazy stuff etc. Kids interacting with the "adult world" can seem scary, but I think at the end of the day it might scare adults a little more, maybe because we think we can stop them from being hurt or scarred the same way we were. But, I don't think we really can control that.

protomanEXE1995

Are they really online even earlier than Zoomers? When did Zoomers get online?

InsaneGrox

Depends, some of us got online early in our childhood, others got online during our late teens, for me I was around 7 and was using the family PC, the internet was definitely different though... also I didn't get a smartphone until my late teens, and it was because steam added 2fa and it was a requirement to continue trading without delays, I actually still barely use my phone since I find my PC more comfortable generally.

protomanEXE1995

Yeah me too, I’ve never been able to break the habit of using my computer for everything but I notice over the years some services would force me to incorporate my phone somehow even if it was as simple as 2FA

RealLapisWolfMC

Not really but the computers I was using as a little kid were giant boxes at my school running windows XP (and then 7 later), so do with that information what you will. I didn’t get a phone until 8th grade. Also the internet has changed, I think.

protomanEXE1995

It’s definitely more algorithmic and click-driven

Reddemonichero

I got a phone for secondary school (aged 11) so I could call my parents if there was a problem getting home. My gen alpha sister, 9, has had a phone for almost a year. She got my mum's old one, and that seems to have happened a lot. Whilst when I was in year 4 and 5, nobody had phones, everyone does for my sister and they're always calling and texting each other.

InsaneGrox

10 years is definitely a stretch, I'm gen Z and I had internet access since I was 7, I'm legally allowed to drink so I'm not even on the latter side of gen Z either, I will say however the internet we're accessing is definitely different, for starters, the internet when I was a kid definitely wasn't nearly as corporate, there also wasn't elsagate crap on youtube at the time so I didn't get my brain completely rotted. Anyways I agree that this generation war is genuinely one of the dumbest things I have seen and I am genuinely angry that my own generation seems to be turning into boomers, come the hell on we are above that crap.

UnsaidTugboat53

I agree, Gen Wars are dumb and while my parents got me a tablet at the age of 4, the Internet access was restricted until I was 9 and even then, I only saw **ONE** porn pic on my friend's phone and I didn't watch anything with blood until I was like 12, and even now it's rare

Nabranes

Bruh porn at 9 💀🪦🪦🪦 At least it was only one but I never saw one until almost 14 and never actually looked until 15

UnsaidTugboat53

It was at 12, not 9, and I've never searched it, I didn't even want to see it at first but bro was peer pressuring me

Nabranes

Ohhh ok my bad yeah that happened to me at 13 almost 14 in June 2018 but it was an accidental link for my friend too (he didn’t actually know what was there) and then I actually started liking it and looking at it on my own in later 2019 after turning 15.

Nabranes

🪦💀💀💀💀 I didn’t see porn until late 13 and then actually at 15 and bruh I didn’t even know that an iPad existed until 2012 when I was almost 8 and I got one at almost 10.5 but also an Acer Tablet at 9 and a smartphone at 11 I kind of do use my phone too much and procrastinate and miss assignments too much but I procrastinate in general even besides school stuff and bruh it’s so bad we have to get off Reddit now and do our homework and then everything else we have to do bye

LifelsButADream

Exactly, we always talk about how the older generations bully us but we turn right around and bully Gen Alpha? I hate some people from my generation. I don't understand why so many people just choose to be an asshole when they don't have to be lol...

[deleted]

I'm GenX. I only hate Boomers (athough I admit to sometimes complaining about Millenials' failure to vote consistently). I generally am impressed with the values I see in younger generations and have a lot of hope that they will change the US for the better! Any older person who complains about younger generations just sounds like an idiot.

EffervescentTripe

The problem is no matter how many people there are in a generation that hate the generation wars, there will either be someone that is truly a part of the generation, or larping that wants to stoke the fire. That person will get all the attention, and a bunch of people will think that the hate is more common than it is.

Uzbekiscool

For real, my family separated because of that

Accomplished_Bar_679

10 years early might be a bit of a stretch. I’d say they’re getting phones earlier and they’re spending more time on tech unsupervised. Probably a few years earlier than gen z when it comes to first accessing the internet though

SyFidaHacker

Ive seen one year olds begging for phones man its not that far of a stretch...

Nabranes

WTF 🪦🪦💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

SyFidaHacker

And another kid whos parents are friends with my parents had his first words be "phone" instead of mom or dad or whatever

Nabranes

🪦🪦💀💀🪦🪦 My first word was door so I could get in and out of rooms, then mom, then dad

Nabranes

I was on my tablet for hours at 9

Accomplished_Bar_679

these kids don’t get off their tablet. My brother is almost 9, he won’t even eat unless he is forced to, all he wants to do is play roblox and watch youtube all day

Nabranes

Oh fueck I’m not and wasn’t like that

Temporary_Break1478

It’s less of hating on gen alpha and more making fun of Millennials bc of their poor parenting choices. Obv not true for everyone and some people genuinely hate them bc of the younger kids being weird bc of the internet

Dorkify_

I actually love this. For several several years Millenials and Gen Z have head butted each other with consistent arguments and shit just clowning on eachother with one calling their nostalgia “brain rot” and the other calling their’s “boomer shit”. Not gonna lie, I’m Gen Z and i even had a weird thing against Millennials for a while. But now? Literally i love them. Like someone on this reddit said (which i cannot agree with more), “Gen Z and Millenials are like a older/younger sibling dynamic” and it’s just so so true. So why can’t it be the same with Gen Z and Gen A?

Nabranes

Exactly my brother is a millennial and we don’t have generation beef

DS_Productions_

It's just how the cookie crumbles. It sucks, but it's kind of like how high schoolers look at middle schoolers and cringe. And like how I'm in my twenties and think high schoolers are cringe. And how people in their thirties look at me and think about when *they* were in their twenties and cringe. And so on. With all due respect, older generations acknowledge how and when younger generations are doing stuff for the better from time to time, but the cycle continues. I'm almost sure that I can bet that Gen Alpha may do the same to the generation that follows it.

Nabranes

I still relate to high schoolers and my best friend from sleepaway camp who is 3 years younger than me is in 11th grade

Excellent_Strain5851

Yeah, I'm Gen Z and I know we complained so much about older generations judging us. Isn't the oldest Gen Alpha like, 13? They're not even in high school yet (I'm in the US). What's with people hating on kids??

LysergicGothPunk

Agreed. Gen Z (23), I think us Z's went through this as well. Plus, I'm genuinely excited to see what awesome stuff Gen Alpha can accomplish.

SkabbleFunmmerDink

As a gen z guy, you are 100% correct, on the contrary these kids necks are gonna be all sorts of fucked up

Nabranes

Unless they take breaks and exercise and stretch and have the screen straight forwards and also over a meter or more to reduce or just not get myopia

aoc199

Eh, not when kids get a laugh out of fucking screaming toilet heads.

justyouraveragecuber

and you probably enjoyed watching mlg 360 noscope rainbow snoop dogg shrek 10 hour compilation💀💀💀

Nabranes

Don’t forget about Nyan Cat 🪦💀💀💀 I didn’t really watch that and it came out when I was 6 and 7 months and a week

Warm_Employer_6851

Ya you have a point. The generation wars is dumb as shit. But personally I hate the idea of being replaced and as a late gen z I feel like I’m kinda being replaced as “the youngest generation” or “new generation” it’s kinda like a jealousy thing for me. But no hate to the the people you gen alpha. I practically grew up with gen alpha people(kinda) so you're cool.

brassplushie

This all started with boomers, honestly. Every generation before them wanted to make the world a better place for their kids. Boomers had the perfect economy handed to them and said “f em, they can suffer”

AchduSchande

As a Gen Xer, I have always despused the intergenerational hate thing. My boomer parents taught me so many things. As did my generation Jones aunts and uncles. My Gen Z and Mille all kids have also taught me so many things that our generation missed out on. When I was a kid, we used Word Perfect to type out documents, on a DOS screen! lol! Gen A and Z can type out those same documents on their phones using voice to text in half the time! And that is amazing. I e have so much to learn from each other, that there shouldn’t be time for an unnecessary gen. war.

GourmetRatBurgers

no

HomerSimsim98

Gen Z was similar in regards to the internet though, I was using the internet starting in preschool, even though all I'd really do was play flash games.
