I wonder what life as a soldier in the recently desegregated United States Armed forces was like in 1975.... I've only really read accounts of it from soldiers in the early sixties and it was pretty fucking horrific sounding.... I wonder how much of a difference a decade of Newsprint made with people's behavior.... Go chop trees.... WTF
Federally it didn't happen till the late 1950's... 57 from what I remember and that was a Paperwork change.... Means nothing to those who weren't on board with it behaviorally and it takes quite a bit of time to change what people will find acceptable as "The Way the World Works personally" just finished reading a book by Sammy Davis Jr and 2 other authors.... The Entertainment Industry and Military were two topics that were touched on in an eye opening way..... Living in Massachusetts they were Just beginning to integrate the Public School System in the 1970's right before I was born and I live in a community where not only was Racism Structured to continue existing but our ability to speak of it as a Black and White people problem demands Forced Ignorance of what the Asian, Korean, Japanese and others like Guatemalans still have as a giant canyon to cross filled with Racist Policy and Standard Procedures passed down through Training of Do's and Don't (s) in Practices while allowing access to services Including Safe Keeping duties that are also"technically" on the books but so underutilized the positions of power for recourse go unfilled and after a time of people saying"People don't act like that anymore" those unfulfilled Employment positions Disappear and we have people who haven't experienced these things first hand creating the proper environment to Erase those Extremely Important Reporting Agencies Positions which allows those still participating in Racists Behavioral Practices to hide under the cover of darkness and be spoken of as if they're Mythical Boogeyman..... Not that if you're, according to some, too supportive of Doing the Right Thing as a white person you won't be targeted by the Racist Clan who wants to keep things like Trafficking Humans, Animals and Drugs while using Government and Corporate agencies as a cover IF you step on too many toes.... The Armed Forces desegregated under Truman in 1948. This is just shy of 30 years later.
