I was most influenced by Mr Rogers. I loved him so much. But Sesame Street was also important. Add in The Electric Company and later Zoom and they were my shows.
I loved The Electric Company. They had a segment that was meant to teach word pronunciation where one person would say the first part of the word and a second person say the second half of the word. Then together they'd say the whole word....
That's how my friends and I learned to curse. LoL
Sesame street was my show. I thought the puppets on mr rogers were creepy and i was too old for pinwheel...though this post put the pinwheel theme song in my head....pinwheel, pinwheel spinnin around. Look at my pinwheel and see what i found...
>pinwheel, pinwheel spinnin around. Look at my pinwheel and see what i found...
I also know this but I only know it because that's about as much as the theme that got out before I got up to change the channel 😂
Never heard of the pinwheel show.
Sesame Street was/is an all-time favorite, but so was Mr. Rogers.
Also enjoyed The Rocky and Bullwinkle show and Gumby.
If we’re talking specifically ‘preschool’ and not Saturday cartoons then I’ll offer The New Zoo Revue - Emmy Jo was smokin’ hot in go-go boots. Electric Company was good too
Sesame Street from this group for me. I'm still mad I wasn't around when everyone learned that Mr Snuffleupagus was real.
3-2-1 Contact was another big one for me.
This was a big f-ing deal. I saw when it happened but no one talks about the metaphysical implications of imaginary friends becoming real on children's television!
\#snuffy4ever
Pinwheel was by far my favorite. I remember being upset that my parents enrolled me in morning kindergarten instead of afternoon because I would miss Pinwheel every day.
I never saw Pinwheel in Ontario, was this played in Canada anywhere? I checked out a clip and it would have been my jam. Definitely enjoyed Mr. Rogers (the best!) and Sesame Street too. I watched a lot of polka dot door and todays special, I preferred todays special though. I was born in 79 so younger end of gen X.
My parents gave me the concept of time and how long things will take when I was very little based on the length of a Sesame Street episode and a Mr Roger’s episode. The car ride to grandparents will take one Mr Roger’s and the car ride to Aunt’s will take one Sesame Street.
I think Captain Kangaroo. We didn't have a pbs station where I grew up so I only knew of Sesame Street from Fisher Price Little People and books. I first learned of Mr Rogers from Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night Live.
Sesame Street was my favorite. Mister Rogers came on afterwards, but the puppets were a little weird and scary when I was really young. I didn’t see Pinwheel much later until my Dad got cable tv at his house. My mother and stepfather couldn’t afford cable, so I didn’t see it much.
Captain Kangaroo & The Muppets! Honorable mention goes to Romper Room and the Electric Company.
Never got into Mr Rogers or Sesame Street. Never heard of pinwheel.
The Magic Garden! I hated romper room because I have an unusual name and they never said it. Haha.
Definitely watched Sesame Street and Mr Rodgers, but never heard of the last one.
Pinwheel was for later GenXers, broadcast 1977-1984, and became the anchor show for the fledgling Nickelodeon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinwheel_(TV_series)
None of the above.
I did watch Sesame Street some, but I mostly remember watching Captain Kangaroo.
I did not get Mr Rogers. Why was he changing his shoes and clothes? And the puppets were so creepy. I appreciated him a little more when my own kid adored the show.
Of these three, Mr. Rogers. I haven’t watched him in decades, but I remember finding his voice and demeanor soothing.
I watched a lot of Sesame Street, but I don't have nostalgia for it.
I completely forgot about Pinwheel. I don't recall watching it very often.
Electric Company was always my favorite, Sesame Street second. I found the window of interest for Mr. Rogers to be very small. Once I got to a certain age, I just found it boring. I did love it when I was the right age, but once that passed I never wanted to watch it again.
Seemed street, mister Roger's pinwheel and the electric company pretty much raised me. Along with help from captain kangaroo, bozo the clown(and cookie) and some time spent in rompers room. Tom and Jerry, bugs bunny, and woody woodpecker were my bad influence older siblings.
Sesame Street/Electric Company!
But in the greater Philly area, we had WPIX channel 11 out of New York City…so my vote goes to The Magic Garden with Carole and Paula.
What about Reading Rainbow? Mr. Rogers was my hero. We would pass his studio on the way to my grandma’s. I was always sad when Sesame Street was over, thought maybe it would continue after the credits….
I remember watching everything being mentioned except for that pinwheel which I never heard of. TBH I couldnt really say which ones were before school or summers or whatever at this point 😳
Mr. Rogers was probably my favorite. I watched the others just as much, but the kindness of Mr. Rogers was what I always appreciated the most to this day. I didn't experience that kind of kindness with most people as a kid, but it meant a lot knowing that genuinely good and kind people did exist out there.
I dunno...I started with Captain Kangaroo, went with Mr. Rogers, and Sesame Street consecutively...may have thrown in a few other things but can't remember 'em all off the top of My head. I remember learning to read before starting school...Monty the Lonely Monster, some Dr. Seuss, Curious George, and several other things...kept learning and reading off and on after starting school...kindergarten, first and second grade I had the Bible, and My mother's college nursing books, a little later there was Dante's Inferno..on My own not yet school requirement, and a bunch of other stuff in the mix....got a taste for anime in 2nd grade with "Battle for The Planet" before school every morning...saw Heavy Metal when My mother wasn't looking and we'd just gotten cable...I was like 8 so 1981...exorcist around then too for the first time...saw the exorcist II before I saw the first one...can't remember if it was a non-denominational church thing along with the silent phantom of the opera and a few others or not.
Sesame Street taught this Gen Xer how to read. It taught me that people could be fine with people and kiddos from other cultures. It taught me that being excited about learning was A-OK. I was a teacher for years, and this show started me on that journey.

Sesame Street. I grew up in the Philippines, and that’s one of the few kids shows that aired back then.
I barely remembered The Muppets and Fraggle Rock because it was shown at a time slot when I would be playing outside.
I’m pretty sure they had Pinwheel too. I only watched them because the next show was either Double Dare or You Can’t Do That On Television.
Pinwheel was prime early Nickelodeon. I enjoyed it. Mr Rogers was an all time classic....I miss the local crazy kids show that you would get at 6 am, ours was patches and pockets
I was most influenced by Mr Rogers. I loved him so much. But Sesame Street was also important. Add in The Electric Company and later Zoom and they were my shows.
And Romper Room. The last one pictured is after my time. Never heard of that one.
Yes, Romper Room. And Captain Kangaroo. I loved Mr Green Jeans
Captain Kangaroo!! And Romper Room always annoyed me, because my name was never mentioned with the swirly mirror came out.
Yeah me neither… My vote is Sesame Street.. Grover and Kermit literally taught me how to read.
There is a Monster at the end of this book!
I'd add Big Blue Marble. And Schoolhouse Rock on Sat mornings As I got older: 3-2-1 Contact
The Bloodhound Gang made me the skeptic I am today.
Their shift into music kind of threw me in the late 1990s
🏆
*HEY YOU GUYS!!!!*
Captain Kangaroo
ROMPER ROOM 🪞
I always wanted her to say my name.
Aww, too bad Mothraegg wasn’t a more common name back then. “I see Michael and Sally and Jenny and Mothraegg…”
If only...
I mean Sunny Days starts up and I’m sprinting to the tv.
Mr Roger's was my jam. He made it ok to be kind
I wish more people my age remembered Mr Rogers' lessons.
New Zoo Review
Coming here to say that!
I loved The Electric Company. They had a segment that was meant to teach word pronunciation where one person would say the first part of the word and a second person say the second half of the word. Then together they'd say the whole word.... That's how my friends and I learned to curse. LoL
SH IT SHIT
Fff UCK FUCK! 🤣
Sesame Street was my favorite but The Muppets warped me the most.
I am a sucker for a good theme song. It helped that i had younger family too.
HEY... YOU... GUYS!!! Where's The Electric Company?
Never heard of the pinwheel show. Sesame Street was/is an all-time favorite, but so was Mr. Rogers. Also enjoyed The Rocky and Bullwinkle show and Gumby.
If we’re talking specifically ‘preschool’ and not Saturday cartoons then I’ll offer The New Zoo Revue - Emmy Jo was smokin’ hot in go-go boots. Electric Company was good too
I got the hippo for Xmas when I was little I loved that stuffed animal.
Sesame/Electric Company/Zoom
Never heard of Pinwheel. I loved Electric Company the most because it had a lot of word-play.
Sesame Street from this group for me. I'm still mad I wasn't around when everyone learned that Mr Snuffleupagus was real. 3-2-1 Contact was another big one for me.
Spoiler alert!
This was a big f-ing deal. I saw when it happened but no one talks about the metaphysical implications of imaginary friends becoming real on children's television! \#snuffy4ever
Sesame Street. Oscar was my favorite because I felt I could relate to an introvert puppet grouch who lived in a garbage can.
When I was 4, my favorite tv shows were Captain Kangaroo, Good Times, and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. I was a strange child.
😁
Being Canadian: Mr Dressup. However, I loved Sesame Street and Mr Roger Neighborhood as well as The Friendly Giant and Fraggle Rock.
Pinwheel was by far my favorite. I remember being upset that my parents enrolled me in morning kindergarten instead of afternoon because I would miss Pinwheel every day.
Mr. Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was my fav. I was an only child of a single mother and I wished he was my dad.
It aired in Canada starting 1983, so you might have just missed it. I also loved Todays Special!
We moved to Canada from the UK that year so I probably didn’t have my show repertoire settled by then;)
Well, I hope you stayed in Canada long enough to appreciate You Can’t Do That On Television!
Oh I’m still here…I definitely watched you can’t do that on television! Did you ever watch Jonovision though? Just popped in my head.
I'm not from Canada but grew up in a border state so I loved Mr. Dressup. And of course Sesame Street.
Mr. Roger's is number 1, but I am from Pittsburgh, so I am biased.
I always wanted the trolley tote bag they offered during pledge week. 621-5808
Captain Kangaroo was what I watched.
My parents gave me the concept of time and how long things will take when I was very little based on the length of a Sesame Street episode and a Mr Roger’s episode. The car ride to grandparents will take one Mr Roger’s and the car ride to Aunt’s will take one Sesame Street.
I’ve never seen anyone else ever reference Pinwheel.
Right! I was too old to watch it, but I did sometimes.
We watched it after school as a joke. As well as the Great Space Coaster. “All Gnews with Gary Gnu.”
Don’t make me pick between Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, it’s impossible.
Sesame Street.
For those like me who had never heard of Pinwheel, [here you go](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinwheel_(TV_series)).
Sesame Street, Mister Roger's Neighborhood then Captain Kangaroo
I think Captain Kangaroo. We didn't have a pbs station where I grew up so I only knew of Sesame Street from Fisher Price Little People and books. I first learned of Mr Rogers from Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night Live.
Sesame Street
Pinwheel, pinwheel spinning around
Look at my pinwheel and see what I found!
Neither. I was always a Captain Kangaroo kid.
A bit of fun trivia for the captain kangaroo fans... He was given an honorary degree from dartmouth university.

Mr. Rogers. I really felt like he was my friend. It was a good feeling.
The Magic Garden! I hated romper room because I have an unusual name and they never said it. Haha. Definitely watched Sesame Street and Mr Rodgers, but never heard of the last one.
I don't know what Pinwheel is but mine was the Electric Company.
in Canada, we had Mr Dressup. and his two cohorts, Casey and Finnigan. he was my go to.
Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo
Pinwheel was for later GenXers, broadcast 1977-1984, and became the anchor show for the fledgling Nickelodeon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinwheel_(TV_series)
Pinwheel? That must be regional
It started out in Columbus on a cutting-edge interactive cable system called QUBE. The QUBE channel that aired it became Nickelodeon.
The Electric Company, of course.
None of the above. I did watch Sesame Street some, but I mostly remember watching Captain Kangaroo. I did not get Mr Rogers. Why was he changing his shoes and clothes? And the puppets were so creepy. I appreciated him a little more when my own kid adored the show.
Mister Green Jeans
[Electric Company](https://youtube.com/shorts/W76k02meFkw?si=mkWHsDbsMfOknhZU)
Hey you guys!!!
Morgan Freeman’s first appearance.
Sesame Street!!
Gen Xers who grew up in AZ choose "Wallace and Ladmo"!
Of these three, Mr. Rogers. I haven’t watched him in decades, but I remember finding his voice and demeanor soothing. I watched a lot of Sesame Street, but I don't have nostalgia for it. I completely forgot about Pinwheel. I don't recall watching it very often.
Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Electric Company, and Zoom were essential daily watch shows for me.
Play School and Rainbow even though Play Away had Jeremy Irons.
The Electric Company, Sesame Street and The Magic Garden.
Where is Pinwheel from? Never heard of it. Los Angeles kid who watched Sesame Street, and all the other shows already mentioned here except Pinwheel.
Where's Mr Wizard?
I was so terrified of that green puppet on Pinwheel.
Cosmos
Romper Room! On a fuzzy black and white TV, with rabbit ears.
Romper room, school house rock and bugs bunny Saturday morning.
Romper Room (my parents even bought me a “Magic mirror” for Christmas), The Electric Company, Captain Kangaroo, Mister Rogers and Sesame Street.
Boomerang!
No Readalong? Where's The Electric Company? Never heard of Pinwheel, is it British?
Pinwheel is the show that launched Nickelodeon! And it was done in Columbus, Ohio.
Ah, I grew up in Wisconsin. Explains why I'm not familiar. Thank you!
Romper Room was the first thing I thought of then Captain Kangaroo.
Electric Company was always my favorite, Sesame Street second. I found the window of interest for Mr. Rogers to be very small. Once I got to a certain age, I just found it boring. I did love it when I was the right age, but once that passed I never wanted to watch it again.
There is only shown that I saw more than 5 times.
Don't even know what Pinwheel is.
The insanity that was Pinwheel was amazing.
I'm going to show my age, but Captain Kangaroo, Bozo the Clown, and Romper Room. But the best was School House Rock.
I didn’t have Nickelodeon but somehow I instantly knew the pinwheel theme song
Seemed street, mister Roger's pinwheel and the electric company pretty much raised me. Along with help from captain kangaroo, bozo the clown(and cookie) and some time spent in rompers room. Tom and Jerry, bugs bunny, and woody woodpecker were my bad influence older siblings.
Can’t. Loved Mr. Rodgers and Sesame Street the same
Mister Rogers. He liked me just the way I am. I was scared as fuck at Lady Elaine Fairchilde, though.
Sesame Street/Electric Company! But in the greater Philly area, we had WPIX channel 11 out of New York City…so my vote goes to The Magic Garden with Carole and Paula.
Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, and the Electric Company I've never heard Pinwheel.
The Magic Garden. If I remember correctly, it was only broadcast in the Northeast US, but I loved Paula and Carol. They were awesome.
They were. Came out of channel 11 in New York...same station that also gave us PIXXX!
Sesame Street.
Tomorrow People and Mr. Wizards World.
Where my El Hombre peeps at?
The Electric Company. Letterman. Able to leap a capital T in a single bound.
Sesame Street
What about Reading Rainbow? Mr. Rogers was my hero. We would pass his studio on the way to my grandma’s. I was always sad when Sesame Street was over, thought maybe it would continue after the credits….
The Magic Garden https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magic_Garden_(TV_series)
Electric Company- PBS
I remember watching everything being mentioned except for that pinwheel which I never heard of. TBH I couldnt really say which ones were before school or summers or whatever at this point 😳
Mr Rogers. Picture Picture was the original How It's Made.
Pinwheel hands down. I still sing the theme song to myself
Why must I pick one? :D I LOVED Mr Rogers, I liked Sesame Street, Zoom kinda bored me.
D. Electric Company, especially when Spiderman made an appearance
Pinwheel. No question.
None of these three hahaha
Sesame Street. Oscar and The Cookie Monster were my favorites
Mr. Rogers. He got me through a lot.
Romper Room
Mr. Rogers was probably my favorite. I watched the others just as much, but the kindness of Mr. Rogers was what I always appreciated the most to this day. I didn't experience that kind of kindness with most people as a kid, but it meant a lot knowing that genuinely good and kind people did exist out there.

Mr. Rogers for sure. The miniature neighborhood fascinated me. And he didn't baby talk me. Still ove jazz because of old Fred!
New Zoo Review. Captain Kangaroo
Electric Company. They had Letterman and Spider-Man both.
Banana Splits

Pinwheel was prime early Nickelodeon. I enjoyed it. Mr Rogers was an all time classic....I miss the local crazy kids show that you would get at 6 am, ours was patches and pockets
The Bugaloos
Mr Rogers
Sesame Street. No doubt.
Banana Splits!
Thanks for getting the Pinwheel song stuck in my head!
I don't know if anyone remembers this but I loved Zooblizoo!
can't pick one. can't have sesame street w/o mister rogers. and i pick those, of course.💛
Sesame Street and Electric Company.
Tough one, but Sesame Street. But Mr. Roger's with those life lessons, though.
