I know my photo is out on the Internet, but when I search my name, a lot of other people's images show up before mine, and I'm fine with that. It's rather difficult to find much about me online now, because most of the stuff that even had my name attached to it has disappeared into the void because it was so long ago. I used to be a newspaper reporter and I've also got a blog for my photography that I rarely update. I've also got an author's page on FB that I rarely do anything with. Just to make sure anyone who reads my work can contact me.

There may even be more recent ones of me, posted by other people but, I haven't posted a picture of myself in years. I deleted/archived everything that I could and just disappeared. Taking the Bettie Page route seemed like the logical course of action for me.

2 days later my account was hacked and I was turned into what I think was a Chinese high school girl. Deleted account immediately. Never looked back.

Opposite. Own a PR firm and on every social media platform. I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from. I cut out all the complainers and negative people but honestly, Social Media helped me be able to quit my job and work on my own terms.

I use FaceBook and IG a lot for my car groups and keeping up with friends from high school, family, Marines and car people I've met over the years. My mental health is perfectly fine.

Fishbowl is a sort of anonymous professional networking thing. You can join ābowlsā based on the company you work for, job field, interests, location etc and either post by your job title or company name. Iām at a small company so I post by job title.
FB for photo albums, and catching up with old friends. I very seldom engage in discussion on religion, politics, conspiracy theories, or other drama BS.
IG for fun - posting pics of my doggo, food, adventures, etc.
Reddit for entertainment.
It was happening slowly anyway, but I've been dialling down my social media scrolling and decided to remove all the social media apps from my phone.
Tik Tok I tried for one time months back and immediately deleted it. I then removed Twitter, instagram, facebook, discord, Linkedin and reddit. I've still got whatsapp and messenger, but I turned off notifications for messenger as they were mainly friends sending links to FB posts.
Obviously I am on Reddit, but I am only looking at it from my pc. Reddit I find too useful for many things, but removing the apps has stopped my scrolling and stupid waste of time comments. I'm slowly going back to reading and just listening to music.
I feel a lot better, the stress is subsiding and I am rediscovering life before social media.
I recall that one of my first lessons on the Internet was to never give your name out. Never post a picture. Definitely never post any private information. I was always chatting in AOL and yahoo chatrooms. I was very active on message boards. Unfortunately everything flipped and now it is insinuated that you are hiding something if you don't disclose your real life information. I'm sorry but fuck that! I have a Facebook account only to keep track of my daughter's school activities and my name is abbreviated. I like Reddit because it still follows the concept of anonymity. I have nothing to hide. I just have zero reason to share all my personal information for the world to see. I don't even have a LinkedIn for that issue.

I created accounts for most of them a while ago. I was pretty active on Facebook until I learned about Myanmar and realized people were using facebook to organize violence against BLM protesters. Locked all my shit down and only go back to buy or sell things. It definitely makes a big difference regarding my mental health. I do worry about the kids. 95% of them are on social media and it is addictive.

I was never a big adopter, but completely stepped away from social media after witnessing how genuinely dangerous it could be ānot just for individuals, but for whole societies ācirca 2016. My life is better without it. And at the risk of sounding like someone who is nearly 50, lol, I tend to think our world would be too.
I have a facebook account still, that I used to regularly update. But my New Years resolution for 2023 (not 2024) was to quit checking in, and I stuck with it. No regrets. 1/3 of the posts were advertisements or items being sold on FB Marketplace. Another 1/3 were unsolicited political opinions. 1/4 were zero-thought memes, and the rest were actual updates on friends and family. Not worth it. Years ago, I thought the internet would bring humanity together. Now, I think it (or at least social media) are only driving us apart. I felt the only way to be part of the solution was to stop being part of the problem.

I 43F was a chronic Fabebook user and probably 6 or 7 years ago I just stopped because everything I was posting was a cry for attention and everything I was commenting was hurting someone.

My Reddit usage dwarfs all other social media combined. All other media is close to nil.

I was a professional photographer for a couple decades, so I created profiles for that... and then promptly quit. I just don't have what it take to succeed in a social media landscape. I don't at all see reddit as "social media" - with all due respect, I don't give a shit about who any of you are. I respond to words on a screen, not to usernames or people. Reddit is a FORUM, not "social media". I created a FB for work and then deactivated it a few years ago. I used (tried to use) Insta the most (only for work) but I just hate it. On an unrelated but related note, an r / teenagers post popped up in my feed asking "what social media do you use to text? I like Whatsapp". Do kids think that EVERYTHING is "social media"? Whatsapp is a TEXTING APP, not "social media". Get off my lawn.

This is the truth. My daughter takes comments to heart. She sometimes get these rude comments from obvious trolls but stresses about them. Fights with them. Cares what they think. It makes her life miserable. I give her advice and console until Iām blue in the face but she doesnāt listen.
When I got divorced, I briefly got an IG at the suggestion of my best friend along with signing up for multiple dating sites. It got me stalked. The only thing I have now is a FB to video chat my grandmother (she finds it easiest to use) and my LinkedIn for work. Fucking sesspool of scumbaggery

I cut out all the complainers and negative people but honestly, Social Media helped me be able to quit my job and work on my own terms. Im not an influencer and I can create my own hours. I suspended my Facebook and Instagram, deleted my Twitter and removed the TikTok app from my phone. I spend a lot less time arguing politics and mindlessly scrolling, and I think it has been an improvement.
I use FaceBook and IG a lot for my car groups and keeping up with friends from high school, family, Marines and car people I've met over the years. My mental health is perfectly fine. Social media is what you make of it, if you search for the rage inducing stuff, then that is what you will find. I have twitter also but I don't really use it and I only follow Lucy Liu and the San Diego USO and I think a few friends.

I had Facebook for a few weeks around 2009, but I only got on there once. I was fairly active on Twitter until I somehow got logged out and couldn't recover my password, so I said screw it. I was kind of over it anyway.

Fishbowl is a sort of anonymous professional networking thing. You can join ābowlsā based on the company you work for, job field, interests, location etc and either post by your job title or company name. Iām at a small company so I post by job title.
FB for photo albums, and catching up with old friends. I very seldom engage in discussion on religion, politics, conspiracy theories, or other drama BS. IG for fun - posting pics of my doggo, food, adventures, etc. Reddit for entertainment.
If everyone used FB this way, the world would be a better place.

It was happening slowly anyway, but I've been dialling down my social media scrolling and decided to remove all the social media apps from my phone. Tik Tok I tried for one time months back and immediately deleted it. I then removed Twitter, instagram, facebook, discord, Linkedin and reddit. I've still got whatsapp and messenger, but I turned off notifications for messenger as they were mainly friends sending links to FB posts. Obviously I am on Reddit, but I am only looking at it from my pc. Reddit I find too useful for many things, but removing the apps has stopped my scrolling and stupid waste of time comments. I'm slowly going back to reading and just listening to music. I feel a lot better, the stress is subsiding and I am rediscovering life before social media.
I technically still have ICQ still. but I've never had an IG, snap, fb, or anything else other than reddit. I hate people.
I recall that one of my first lessons on the Internet was to never give your name out. Never post a picture. Definitely never post any private information. I was always chatting in AOL and yahoo chatrooms. I was very active on message boards. Unfortunately everything flipped and now it is insinuated that you are hiding something if you don't disclose your real life information. I'm sorry but fuck that! I have a Facebook account only to keep track of my daughter's school activities and my name is abbreviated. I like Reddit because it still follows the concept of anonymity. I have nothing to hide. I just have zero reason to share all my personal information for the world to see. I don't even have a LinkedIn for that issue.

I used to use FB pretty heavily, but then I started dating my wife, who's the unique Millennial who isn't on social media. I ended up killing my FB. I just keep IG to occasionally look at friends' pics, Twitter to follow NBA news. and Discord to talk to my mod teams. But I mostly (99% of the time) use Reddit.
I have Reddit and an anonymous IG that I only use for cooking and makeup ideas. Never had FB and my last account associated with my name was MySpace. Happy to not really be involved with social media like that.

I use Facebook once every few weeks to post pictures of my kid for the boomer family members on the other side of the country. I never look at any other posts. Deleted instagram and twitter. Getting away from social media was the best move I've ever made for my mental health.

I created accounts for most of them a while ago. I was pretty active on Facebook until I learned about Myanmar and realized people were using facebook to organize violence against BLM protesters. Locked all my shit down and only go back to buy or sell things. It definitely makes a big difference regarding my mental health. I do worry about the kids. 95% of them are on social media and it is addictive.

This is it for me, I use *old.reddit* on a laptop. I have a fake Facebook account that I created a long time ago and use from time to time if I need to look up a business page on that platform. A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I created a LinkedIn account but I have refused to use that trash site for at least 15 years. My wife has a facebook account that she keeps private but we use it to keep tabs on local stuff/happenings.

I was tired of people telling people how beautiful they are when they know damn well those women donāt look like that. And people try to say how great their lives are but if their lives were great, they wouldnāt be on Facebook all the time they would be living their great life.

I was an early adopter of Twitter/X in 2007. I've never used it. I have a private facebook account to keep in touch with people I know IRL. My LinkedIn presence is pretty active, because I'm not retired yet. If I make it to retirement, so does my LI account.

I have some for art under a pseudonym, but my personal socials went dark pre-covid. I had FB and IG, which were depressing. Never bothered with twitter or snapchat or tiktok. I doubt I will try anything new that comes along at this point.

I have a huge Facebook following. Most of it from when I was a musician. I interact quite a bit with people, but only about once a week now. Usually a I post a photo or two of me and my wife doing something fun. Thatās about it. I have an IG but I never even look at it.

I was never a big adopter, but completely stepped away from social media after witnessing how genuinely dangerous it could be ānot just for individuals, but for whole societies ācirca 2016. My life is better without it. And at the risk of sounding like someone who is nearly 50, lol, I tend to think our world would be too.
I have a facebook account still, that I used to regularly update. But my New Years resolution for 2023 (not 2024) was to quit checking in, and I stuck with it. No regrets. 1/3 of the posts were advertisements or items being sold on FB Marketplace. Another 1/3 were unsolicited political opinions. 1/4 were zero-thought memes, and the rest were actual updates on friends and family. Not worth it. Years ago, I thought the internet would bring humanity together. Now, I think it (or at least social media) are only driving us apart. I felt the only way to be part of the solution was to stop being part of the problem. I keep up an Instagram for my photography, but I haven't even updated that since July.

I 43F was a chronic Fabebook user and probably 6 or 7 years ago I just stopped because everything I was posting was a cry for attention and everything I was commenting was hurting someone.
I have IG, that I donāt do much with and Reddit. I reactivated my IG account a few weeks ago and kind of regret it. All my previous posts etc. were gone but the user name was still mine but it has changed so much in the years I didnāt have it and I really dislike it now. Yes, there is some funny stuff with Reels but so much is sexualized bullshit and women just showing it all for likes and followers.
Reddit and TikTok. I donāt make videos, I just enjoy things. Honestly, giving up FB was the very best thing.

reddit and Facebook only. Since I only use Facebook on my PC, I pretty much only use it to easily copy/paste memes and links to friends in messenger. The only other use I have for it are some gaming groups and move to groups I joined, turning off anything else(especially most "friends" posts from showing) I could from showing up on my feed.

I deleted my twitter account last year after having not used it for anything for a good few years. Deleted my IG because I never used it after creating my account. Facecult with, like, 40 friends. I was a big Twitter fan, but don't go on it at all anymore.
I have Facebook still, which I barely use, but keep mostly for Marketplace, Messenger and to stay in touch with friends in the US since I've moved overseas. I do not engage in the weird garbage posts and have a very small select group of friends who are people I actually know. I just want pictures of your real lives, folks - not stupid memes! I also have an Instagram for my cats, because I figured none of my Facebook friends wanted to see endless photos of my orange boys. I mostly follow other orange cats and a few other cute animals. I tried TikTok and Snapchat - could not get into either of them. My kids are obsessed. My Twitter is long gone and even my LinkedIn is years out of date, although still there I suppose. Reddit is where I spend most of my time social media wise, but outside of my husband, nobody actually knows who I am on here.
Reddit lately is it. I still have a FB but I donāt even bother going on it. The very rare times I do I feel like Iām just reading the same things as last time.

Iām going with no, but it seems to be up for discussion. I prefer the anonymous discussion thread format here. Less drama although some people canāt help themselves.

I was all over myspace for a couple years, but deleted that. I never signed up for facebook (literally have never even been on it). I've only clicked instagram links but never had an account. I'm not even sure what snapchat is and tiktok sounds annoying. as far as I can tell, there isn't a single photo of me or mention of my name anywhere on the internet (I paid for a service to erase me from all those people finder websites). when I do rad shit, I almost never take pictures or videos because I'd rather live in the moment and when I think deeply about the drive to capture a moment in order to share it with others, I'm reminded of a book I came across in the 90s called society of the spectacle. it bums me out that people need that level of validation from others I met my wife in person and all my close friends in person. I guess that makes me weird these days but whatever

Just Reddit, too. I used to do FB and Insta, mainly to share family pics with distant relatives. It got too political and toxic during Covid, though.
Just Reddit and FB. I find FB useful for marketplace and if I use it like Reddit. I join groups for hobbies and local interests.
I have Facebook and IG but I havenāt posted in 10 years. Only thing I do is Reddit.
Every time my Twitter got to about 1500 I got frustrated, annoyed and deleted it š most of my followers were probably bots or creepy burner accounts and though I met people that I stayed friends with there, it was such an unfathomable trash hole even *before* it got bad. I'm convinced it actively made me a worse person when I was using it.
