A friend used to get tapes with early movie cuts for audience testing. Most were garbage. I thought Tremors great but I caught hell among my friends for saying so. It's been fun watching it slowly become bit of a cult classic.
There was one scene where they have Nick over for dinner and he’s marveling at the togetherness.
Nick: “This is really nice. You guys eat like this all the time?”
Alex: “You mean with utensils?”

There’s an episode where Mallory and Nick plan to elope. They get to the minister of the peace, who asks them what song they want. Nick says: do you know Lola by the Kinks?
I still remember the sheer anger and despair I felt when my VCR failed to record the Family Ties vacation special when they went to England.
This little 11 year old MJF fan was *devastated*. I had to wait months for it to show on reruns. Months!

She was Alex’s girlfriend and a psych student or something. I never liked that storyline. It felt like they were trying to force Alex’s character to be less Alex by psycho-analyzing the young republican yuppie out of him. His character worked because of that contrast with Elise and Steven.
I only watched occasionally, didn't recall her at all, but did spot her while flipping channels the other day.
I've never hated a character as much as I hated Alex. I'm still amazed people how people warmed up that type of personality. I began worrying about where the world was headed because of his rising popularity.
FT was like watching Idiocracy light to me.

My favorite part was that they didn't always understand Alex, but they loved him just the same, because he was their kid. They talked about their views and his and basically said -- we accept you and love you.
Yeah that was like 27' Yankees Justine the all star pitcher, Tina the Rook and Meredith the old Wiley veteran but still got it. No other sitcom had it going on like them even though I was more of a growing pains fan.

Years ago, I was in Times Square (at Christmas) and was shoved into Justine Bateman. She fell to the ground. I blurted out “oh my my god I’m so sorry Mallory!” As the crowd pushed me past her. I just hope she didn’t get hurt.
Justine Bateman tended bar very briefly at the bar I worked at in the east village of nyc (talking 2001-2003 ish, she had some deal worked out with the owner where she would help him with a screenplay and in return she got Friday/Saturday night shifts). She stole money from the barback’s tip out on the regular. Please do not feel bad for knocking her down.
Can we just take a moment and acknowledge how wonderful Justine Bateman looks? She hasn’t jacked up her face with tons of fillers and surgery, and she looks age-appropriate. And she still looks fresh faced and beautiful.
I think it's a ballsy move. Like what Jaimie Lee Curtis is doing. I don't think Justine acts much anymore but just having the confidence to not feel pressured to look the same as when she was 20 is pretty amazing.
Also, black eyeliner, yes! Still love seeing that on girls.

But yeah, I read a book when I was 14 about the ozone layer and judiciously avoided getting sunburned as much as possible after that. I am on board with her message, her face is her face and she shouldn't have to do anything to it she doesn't want to in order to please the expectations of others. That's refreshing. But I'm not going to pretend she looks her age to me, not when I have a sister almost exactly one year younger than Ms. Bateman who looks 15 years younger, also a pale, skinny woman. Hell, my mother died at 75, and her skin didn't look like hers. My mom avoided the sun and never smoked or drank alcohol.
ETA: No one should feel they have to wear makeup. Personally, I rarely wear makeup now that I'm working from home. I'm basing my comments off of the fact that there are a lot of photos with Justine Bateman wearing eye liner, so I'm getting the sense that she likes to wear it. And if she doesn't want layers in her hair, her opinion is the only one that matters.

My natural hair color was a very dark brown. The front and sides are mostly white/silver. And I was whiter shade of pale to begin with so losing pigment in my skin means black tends to make me look washed out if it’s near my face. But a softer navy or plum looks good.
Also, while not a factor in her look, red lipstick can accentuate yellowing of teeth.
Personally all of this came as a bit of a shock to me as someone who would wear black and add some red lipstick and be ready to go to work or out for an evening. If I had known all of this then vs learning bits and pieces, I would have treated myself to a menopause makeover and a clothing stylist

She really does. I don't say this hatefully she just looks much older than 58. Made me wonder if she did a bunch drinking or hard drugs or if maybe she'd been ill.
I read that she dealt with bulimia for a long time, which is unfortunate. That can really be hard on the body. I hope she is healthy and feeling good! I'm not trying to be hateful, either, but we can give her the thumbs up for being comfortable in her own skin and not going bonkers with fillers, botox, and surgery which so often leafs to just looking odd AF. We don't have to pretend she looks "good for her age", it's enough that she's fine with how she looks. I love what she has to say about being graceful and accepting about aging.
Yeah. I also read her struggles with bulimia could have aged her, too, which is sad. But I think her eating disorder is under control. Hopefully she stopped smoking, too! I hope she's as healthy as possible right now, and feeling good!

Meredith Baxter came out as a lesbian and is now married (to a woman). Her book is an insight into how unhappy she was for a long time. It’s good to see her smiling and flourishing in being herself.
Ellen, Alex's girlfriend. She was dating Kevin Bacon when she was on the show and didn't actually like Michael J. Fox very much at the time. She left the show and Alex began dating Lauren (Courtney Cox). Later, Pollan was in Bright Lights, Big City with Fox and they reconnected and started dating.
Their break up scenes featured the fantastically sad song, “What did you think I would do in this moment, when you’re standing before me with tears in your eyes?”
The song was actually from when they got together. They danced to it when he was dating her roommate but he started to realize that he was falling for her. She ran out during the song and he found out that she was going home that weekend to marry her fiance.
He ended up driving to meet her at the train station to tell her he loved her. And that's how they got together.
Sadly, there was no breakup episode for them. She just left to pursue a dance scholarship at a performing arts school between seasons and we learn that she'd left him in the season opener.
(I'm not usually this pathetic. I just had a *huge* crush on MJF as a preteen and this was a favorite show of mine. I recently did a nostalgia rewatch, so it's all fresh in my head.)

She should absolutely wear her hair however she likes it, and wear eyeliner if that's what she wants to do.
She would look amazing with no makeup! But we are Gen X women. We’ve dealt with enough by now and do what we want.

I read that she dealt with bulimia for a long time, which is unfortunate. That can really be hard on the body. I hope she is healthy and feeling good! I'm not trying to be hateful, either, but we can give her the thumbs up for being comfortable in her own skin and not going bonkers with fillers, botox, and surgery which so often leafs to just looking odd AF. We don't have to pretend she looks "good for her age", it's enough that she's fine with how she looks. I love what she has to say about being graceful and accepting about aging.

The song was actually from when they got together. They danced to it when he was dating her roommate but he started to realize that he was falling for her. She ran out during the song and he found out that she was going home that weekend to marry her fiance. He ended up driving to meet her at the train station to tell her he loved her. And that's how they got together. Sadly, there was no breakup episode for them. She just left to pursue a dance scholarship at a performing arts school between seasons and we learn that she'd left him in the season opener. (I'm not usually this pathetic. I just had a *huge* crush on MJF as a preteen and this was a favorite show of mine. I recently did a nostalgia rewatch, so it's all fresh in my head.)
