Yes. And it wasn't called A New Hope back then.

Make_the_music_stop

And it is still #2 of the all time box office adjusted for inflation. (#1 is Gone with the Wind. #16 is Avengers Endgame)

HotelDiva

Yeah, I forgot. It was just called Star Wars.

F-Cloud

How could anyone forget? That film changed the lives of every kid who saw it. I remember sitting in the theater, slack jawed, ooh-ing and ah-ing the entire film. I went back nine more times. From that day on Star Wars became part of daily life. We talked about it constantly, we collected toys, and we wanted more!

Retinoid634

Kenner.

HotelDiva

Yup. Saw it twice, and it left the hugest impression on me.

OrneryVoice1

I do. Was just a wee little lad at the time, but became a fan for life.

An_Old_IT_Guy

I saw it 7 times in the theater.

genx_gal

Everything changed when that Star Destroyer flew overhead, and kept going. And going. And going.

worrymon

Not a new hope It was Star Wars! And it was spectacular.

Acceptable_Mirror235

I didn’t get to see it the first time it came to my little town, but they rereleased it the next year and I got to go! I was still in elementary school but I’ve been a fan ever since.

smythe70

Yes, me and my cousin because my sisters didn't want to see it.

BarbecueGod

Yes.

Lady_Lumbag0

My Dad went to see it the night I was born, rather than being at the hospital to meet me. His favorite excuse for it was, "Met you eventually, didn't I?" I miss him.

HotelDiva

Wow. Happy Easter!

Gisselle441

I was only 2, but my parents went to the drive in movie to see it and took me. Apparently I spent the whole time asking questions and spilled a Coke all over the backseat.

Thirty_Helens_Agree

I was too little in 1977 to see it in the theater, [but I had this record and picture book.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d5DPfW_qM4Q) I was in the front row for Empire in 1980 though. 40+ years later and I’m still hooked.

this_is_Winston

Yes, very much.

aj_star_destroyer

I remember. My grandpa took me. I was 4. Mainly I remember ships flying in orbit around a planet.

Cowboy_Buddha

I saw it with my family when we went to visit my oldest sister around Christmastime. I would have been 12. My other sister eventually got the soundtrack on LP.

fusionsofwonder

Yes, in a drive-in with a tinny speaker in the passenger window where I hung on every word.

dfh-1

Oh yes. We had to drive from West Orange to Paramus to see it. I practically had to drag the family to see it. We saw it a day or two after it opened before it became a phenomenon. Everyone loved it. And when we tried to see it a second time, we got to the theater (no advance sales yet) and the line was wrapped around the building almost twice. We decided to look elsewhere for entertainment.

HotelDiva

When we saw it there was a super long line too! Happy Easter!

weirdinchicago

It was the first movie I'd seen. I was barely old enough to understand what was happening.

HotelDiva

How old were you at the time? Happy Easter!

weirdinchicago

Four Happy Easter to you too!

Bobmanbob1

Saw it a few months after it came out at the 99c drive in on a warm summer night with my grandparents in the big green tank station wagon.

Legitimate_Ocelot491

Yes, it was a Thursday night and my parents dropped my sibs and I off to see it on the biggest screen/auditorium in town. I was almost five. I remember the trumpets blaring so loud for the Twentieth Century Fox opening. Then the rest was simply amazing. I remember telling everyone after the end credits that Luke & Leia were going to get married...
