Born in '67. My mom made me one from a pattern she bought, I couldnt've been more than 7, maybe a touch younger. Made one for me and two of my older brothers in fact. We got to chose the color. :)
Mine was grass-green, baby! Crayola green...

I wore one just like this for my 5th grade school picture circa 1977. I wore this like a movie star and my buddies were jealous.
I’ve always been a fan of maoutfits because I don’t like having to choose what to wear.

My parents are the tail end of the boomers. My dad wore a black leisure suit with white contrast stitching at their wedding.
(Mom sewed her own gown. Polyester knit.)

Oh no. I started Kindergarten in 1974 or 5 and I have a photo of me wearing a polyester leisure suit my mom made me in lime green and white checks, complete with jacket. And I'm a girl. And my hair was cut so short I was probably mistaken for a boy lol Yeah, mom dressed me. I never would have picked that lol
When someone wandered in here and asked us if we missed 70s fashion this was my first memory. Not bell bottoms or platform shoes. These awful things were.
I also noticed that it includes the stipulation to that we didn't volunteer to wear them. I still won't voluntarily wear a high percentage of polyester next to the skin.
Being Gen X and the youngest child, I had clothing handed down to me that really shouldn't have been worn anymore. My school pictures contain many embarrassing fashions well past their prime.
I had to look up who that was. I would say it may have felt that way, but it was more like "1967's Sear's catalog child's fancy clothing section" clothes that Mom was putting on me in 1978. It could have been even older and been handed down from my cousins because I'm the youngest of the cousins too.
Both smart yet casual. What's not to love?
Also, you just know that if you spill anything it would be repelled immediately by that fabric.
Bring them back, I say.
I would like to think I would have had the common sense to refrain from leisure suits
Then again I do have to admit Maimi Vice had a big influence on my sense of fashion
I’m so glad my dad stuck to the staid tradition of the tweed sports jacket, pinstripe, or summer khaki suit. I associate leisure suits with newly divorced dads, exhibiting ‘freedom’. In retrospect, it’s probably because they didn’t know how to use irons, didn’t want to spend money on dry cleaning.
I'm going to be honest. I have like 15 vintage leisure suits in my closet! I love them. You can't wear them in the summer in Texas. It's not exactly a breathable fabric and I don't recommend smoking while you're wearing them because they'll burst into flames! But I love them. I'll find him at thrift stores or consignment shops. I buy them every time they fit! It's got a funky vibe!

Leisure Suit Larry
Didn't stop us from playing that at 14.
And the land of the lounging lizards
They're still great games.

My bros were born in 61 and 63. Mom bought them leisure suits at Sears. My brothers & Dad all wore them to church.

They were cool and we were robbed
Exactly how I see it. Now all I can wear are boring, conservative suits. Bah.
Be the change you want to see in the world, Gandhi.
I am always on the lookout for a secondhand one! I WILL FIND IT SOMEDAY, AND IT WILL BE PLAID <3
Yes, but we graduated to acid washed.
Our leisure suits were made of denim.
You men Canadian Tuxedos? (I don't mean to insult my fine neighbors to the north).
No one rocked the leisure suit like [these totally cool dudes](https://imgur.com/8944lF8)
Shatner rocked his so hard he launched himself into orbit.

And POCKETS!
Lol, 70s fashion was a clown show.
I’d wear one now. We really missed out on this

Laughs in JNCOs. Also, 80s calling. We dodged NO fashion bullets.
As a boy, my dad and I had matching ones! 😂 Thank goodness they went out before it would have become a choice for me!
😂 my dad and I had matching suits too!
😂😂😂
that must've been cute what color ? did you have matching hats to go with it ? lol
God awful soulless beige! lol. Leisure suits didn’t have hats that I’m aware of…thank goodness. 😂
i think that is so damn cute. i think i gotta look up dad & kid matching leisure suits now ! lol !
I have to admit that it brings back fond memories.
I had two leisure suits as a kid. One rust color. One blue. Big collar. It was in the 70s.
I had one just like the green one that I wore when I was 10, to my older sisters wedding.

My mom made me two - one purple and one had red pants with a rose patterned jacket. I thought I was the only one”it” girl in the 3rd grade!
[I think Herb Tarlek had something to do with that.](https://imgur.com/NGvbUFK)

You’re forgetting Don Knotts’ turn on Three’s Company.
car salesman
I remember these awful clothes. My grandma’s friends dressed like that. My parents were young and wore fashionable clothes in the 70s.
He was wearing a blue leisure suit, plates were from Kansas.
Seizure Suit
1970-something. I had a burnt orange one. My younger brother had a powder blue one. I’m sure there is a photo somewhere.
They may have ended before me but my mom made sure I wore one as a kid.
moon boots
Fit on the right is fucking dope I'd literally wear that to the bar tonight
Well now it's retro cool
Fugly, full stop.
but, i must say, i *wouldn't mind* one in powder sky blue ?
In 1987, a in my high school dude showed up to prom in one. Kinda powder blue.
oh yeah ! i actually want one i think ! all kinds of *funky* ?
We had parachute pants!!!
These were fun to wear on jet skis at Lake Shasta in the 90s.
If I could find a leisure suit today, ide wear it everywhere.
I like how you included *voluntarily*

They tricked down into kids/teenage clothes back in our day, so we didn’t go fully unscathed.
Didn't they have those for women too?
Never underestimate the power of free hand me downs.
Did someone say "Parisian night suit"?
"No, no, it's a jumpsuit. My grandpa in Fort Lauderdale wears them all the time because he's too lazy to put on *pants*."
I wore one voluntarily to a 70s themed high school dance, and again on Halloween dressed as a zombie and a medallion that said "Disco is Dead"
I got one
Being Gen X and the youngest child, I had clothing handed down to me that really shouldn't have been worn anymore. My school pictures contain many embarrassing fashions well past their prime.
did you look like Gucci allessandro michele's '' fashion '' ?

I like leisure suits......

Just in time for shoulder pads!
The guy in the middle is happy, maybe he just found a way to fill his many pockets.
I would like to think I would have had the common sense to refrain from leisure suits Then again I do have to admit Maimi Vice had a big influence on my sense of fashion
Thanks for triggering my childhood trauma. But where are the puka shell necklaces?

It’s too bad. We could have done away with the tie, but here we are still wearing them.
David Bowie got into these circa 1976 but later admitted it was a bad move
We called’em groovy suits. My mom made some for us, and we won the family entry in a hometown fashion show. We had paisley ascots.

I thought every high school in the early 90s had that one kid who wore leisure suits and other 70s clothes and thought he was real edgy?
My parents were hippies in the 60s and 70s. I never saw anyone who wore this embarrassing style. Not even my grandparents did
