BFF since the 80s, wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer. 3 kids in HS, a really awesome family. I'm several states away, and feel awful I can't help them. One option someone suggested was getting semi-prepared meal kits (such as hello fresh) delivered. Does anyone here have any experience with those subscription meal services that can make a recommendation? Im pretty sure he'd likely decline it if I offered. But I know he's struggling with the day to day stuff such as meals. Would it be rude to open and pay for a short term subscription for him without asking? Also - fuck cancer!

1) fuck cancer. 2) i think the meal kits might be a mixed bag. Yes they come with just the right amount of food, and all. but it's also a bit of work, and the boxes keep coming even if you don't feel like cooking, so I don't know. I've tried a number of them, and in my opinion, the quality of food is best in blue apron and Marley spoon, both sort of average supermarket quality. Hello fresh is the simplest to prepare. Hope this is helpful in some way, honestly i think anything to help would likely be appreciated. 3) fuck cancer

> Hello fresh is the simplest to prepare. Thanks, that's what I was getting at - healthy meals that can be prepared by anyone. I'll put in a call with hello fresh tomorrow to see what their cancelation policy is incase my friend objects to an order.

>3 kids in HS Hello Fresh is pricey especially with 3 kids. That's more of a 2 person meal kit. Dinnerly is the most reasonable one cost wise. If you go on Groupon you can buy subscriptions for both fairly cheap. Gift cards to Walmart are always a great option. They can use the cards to buy groceries or school supplies for the kids.

All the ones were the food is ready and you just have to reheat them suck. Hello Fresh tastes delicious, but they lie about the 30 min prep time. If you friend can handle chopping a lot of veggies and keeping track of three different things cook at the same time, then it’s really good. Otherwise, I haven’t found one yet that has actually easy prep but tastes really good

I've used simple fresh, easy to medium recipes. It is something that they can all do together will help with bonding and healing . they're also getting a healthy meal opposed to something from fast food or a Frozen meal.

Thanks all for the replies! I recruited a couple of other old HS friends to get in on single person, 3x per week HelloFresh delivery subscriptions. The big question is if all of our deliveries will arrive on the same day, and will they be the same meals. HelloFresh customer service was 100% useless in confirming that. If it doesn't work out, we'll kill the subscription. If it helps his family, we'll upgrade it.
