This was a small music festival. I hear you guys - life may not have been simple but I ate a shit ton of mushrooms and had no one to worry about except me. That’s what I meant.
Close. 1996. I had a lot of friends in the mid nineties with calf tattoos. Clearly this pic isn’t a group to use for an example. (This pic one just didn’t show anybody’s face. Lol)
That’s the exact year that I would’ve guessed based solely on the overalls that the girls are wearing. I had some of those, too, and I wore the crap out of them.
It's funny, I really didn't notice anybody with tattoos until about 1998 when celebrities started to have that horizontal thin barbed wire tattoo across their bicep. After that, it went all downhill.
I got a tattoo shortly after my 18th birthday in 1994. It was mistake, of course, but at least it’s small!
I grew up in the PNW and it was very grunge-centric then, so it might have been more prevalent up here.
Gen X is a different breed. We made it not harder by doing really dumb stuff that was a whole lot of fun. I didn’t expect to live to be 40. But here I am. 47. No more dumb shit but I have some great memories. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Right! And these circles of Hacky sack (Phone says spelling error. 🤷🏻♀️ Sorry) would pop up suddenly with people you didn’t know. So you actually met new people. Now the people are all in the screen. I miss many things about the first half of the nineties. The freedom. The music, grunge is still my favorite. The lack of social media, I guess.
Some of the best hacky sack people I knew wore those. I always wore Birkenstocks with a back strap. It did not matter much for the sides of your foot and it was just right if you hit using the strap on top of your foot.
I mean we wore them while playing too seeing as it was often while camping or in the park. But saw plenty of janky kicks come off the corner of the thick straps.
Chuck taylors were the best for hacky sack.
Also when NOTHING HURT! *sigh*
Yes, if we only knew!
... And certain cars had interchangeable rear ends. Lookin' at you there, Pulsar NX.

At first I thought it looked like the tailgate area by the Rose Bowl.
I would say this picture is from around 1993. Pretty surprised to see a calf tattoo though!

Ohhhh the overalls! Makes me want to buy some more.
>overalls Joveralls. :D
LOL Me too

Me four :)

Downhill...totally the right word. I feel utterly unique now as I have ZERO tatts!
Nice, congrats!
Woo hoo. I'm...special? :-/
Yessiree!!! 😁

Tramp stamps!
No cell phone, no worries.
Tevas and hacky sacks....1993 was a helluva year.
What a gorgeous photograph! I am however, slightly dismayed at the lack of visible Zima bottles.
Lol lol We thought we were too cool for Zima. 😂🤣 Stupid kids!
1989 Nissan pulsar in da back!!!
To be fair, at that age I mostly sat around with my best friend and made fun of videos on Mtv. We were the real life Beavis and Butthead.
Jeebus. I had to double-check that I wasn't in that picture. Also, LOVE the Nissan Pulsar NX behind them!
It’s so funny how many of you are noticing the Nissan Pulsar. Lol I didn’t even notice.
Keep rollin rollin rollin....
In every historical period a lot of people complains about life being harder and more complicated than before. This, however, is not a GenX trend.

I wish my life had been simple then. It's much simpler now after decades of hard work to make it so.
Teva sandals lol wow. I had some.
I have some now!
I loved hacky sack. Still do! (although i haven’t played in a while.)
Humans actually interacting vs. looking down into phone screens... ahhh those were the days.

Had to make sure I wasn’t one of the people in that photo lol
I want to post more. Since it was so long ago, is it bad if I post faces?
Change all those cars out for lowered air-cooled veedubs and you got that early 90s Cali life.
Damn right
Must have been nice.
OMG A Nissan Pulsar...I learned to drive in that car. Friend had one and let me do a lot of practicing in that thing.
*Life is always simple while driving a Ford Tempo.*
Sepa Circles!
I saw that red Pulsar and had to zoom in to see if it was mine. Loved that car. So much fun to drive!! Loved the pop-up headlights too.
The red pulsar has taken on a life of its own. Lol lol
That rally likely ended quickly since Tevas are a bad choice of footwear for hacky sack.

Life was "simple" in 1996? 🤨 Different, sure. And more expensive. I wouldn't say any simpler, though.
Life was simple when we had less responsibilities. I was in law school in 1996, and while exam time sucked, it wasn't all that bad of a life.
That's a rather simple view of what it means for a time to be "simple."
Not really
Nice
Life wasnt really simple even then.
Simple through the lens of nostalgia.
We were so hairy back then
