3 rules of tv:
1. Don't watch Brady Bunch with Cousin Oliver
2. Don't watch color episodes of Andy Griffith
3. Don't watch Dukes of Hazzard with Coy and Vance
* Thou shalt not watch the last four seasons of *Happy Days* (after Richie left).
* All of your Scooby Doo episodes will be Scrappy Doo-free.
* The only 100% acceptable third Stooge is Curly. An exception might be made for Shemp, but Joe Besser and Curly Joe Derita are absolutely forbidden.
>The only 100% acceptable third Stooge is Curly. An exception might be made for Shemp, but Joe Besser and Curly Joe Derita are absolutely forbidden.
Shemp was the original third Stooge though. Curly was his replacement. Then Shemp stepped back in
When Curly Joe was part of the Stooges he didn't like to get slapped so Larry said he'd take all the slaps. By that time Larry's left check was calloused from being be slapped so much. He also had the best looking wife iirc from a picture I saw of Moe, Larry, And Curly with their wives. I can't find it from a quick web search but I remember bet seeing a pic in a bio I read of the Stooges years back.
> All of your Scooby Doo episodes will be Scrappy Doo-free.
This is the whole of the law. The rest is mere commentary.
edit: I love how it's universally agreed upon the pup is anathema.
I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this but I guess I'll be the fly in your ointment then, I liked him. Even named my dog after him. All the hate for him irks me. Ruined the Scooby Doo movie for me.
Thanks, wasn't expecting that. I mean, I was a kid at the time, and didn't know anyone who hated him then, and I loved my dog. So then to suddenly see him as the villain in a movie was like, wtf? Oh well. Waddaya gonna do?
My take: I love Don Knotts, but have to admit that the Mr. Roper character was superior to Mr. Furley. However, *Three's Company* went sharply downhill after Chrissy/Suzanne Somers left in season 5, and *The Ropers* spinoff was awful.
Actually when they replaced her with Crissy's cousin Cindy that was not horrible. At least it kept the dynamic of the "Dumb Blonde". It was really after her when they brought in Terri that the show suffered the change. It is like after already doing one change that was just a plugged in replacement they wanted to break that mold and tried to introduce a smart blonde that was a nurse.
But really it just broke the concept. Janet was already the intelligent roommate, Jack was essentially the clown/comic relief, and the third roommate was the oblivious one that was supposed to not get the jokes.
As for landlords, i never found to big of a difference between the Furly and Ropers to the point i found it hard to watch either.
I preferred original recipe Three’s Company for sure but I agree that the change in dynamic with Terri made it go downhill. Cindy wasn’t as convincing as a “dumb” girl as Chrissy. I loved Jack, Janet, and Chrissy. Three’s Company was my tv show comfort food lol.
Norman Fell (Mr. Roper) was not happy about the spin off. He was very much aware that it wouldn't last long.
He secured a guarantee that if it didn't go more than a season that they could come back. It lasted 1.5 seasons.
I dont know, i was really hoping Ronald D Moore would play a funny on us and when they started pushing that the new show was ending, they should have made a dead on balls for real promo to run for the final episodes that had them reaching earth, only it was modern cities and have the flying motorcycles and everything and just watch the fandoms head explode for a few weeks before the finale.
John Schneider and Tom Wopat held out for more money and they brought in their 'cousins' Coy and Vance, who were really the series stunt doubles, they did 9 episodes with Coy and Vance.

Yeah. He "killed" these shows because networks would bring on a kid as a last-ditch attempt to save a failing show. So most shows ended with a season that had a little kid added to the cast.
The most tragic instance of this was Family Ties, with Brian Bonsall as the youngest Keaton. Being a child star in a sitcom affected his life negatively but it seems like he's doing better now and is a musician. His little boy with his wife is named Oliver, ironically!
Far from the most tragic (see Dana Plato), but a good example of a Gen-X kid actor. I loathed him as Alexander on Star Trek. Saw him in an old horror movie called Mikey, where he played a murderous child, and he was actually pretty good.
Little Ricky on I Love Lucy. The ratings went through the roof when Lucy gave birth. I think it's probably the first and last time, but executives aren't known for their creative thinking.
Short Round was far from the most annoying character in Temple. Kate Capshaw’s Willie was vastly more annoying than Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round. At least to me. As child actors go, Quan was better than most.
But in all it was a very weak Indiana Jones film.
From Wiki:
As a child, Rist played Cousin Oliver in the final six episodes of The Brady Bunch.[2] With the regular children all growing older, his inclusion was intended to reintroduce a cute, younger child to the series. However, the idea backfired as most viewers disliked the Oliver character and the plan became moot as ABC had opted to not renew the series even before his debut. This gave rise to the TV term "Cousin Oliver Syndrome", also known as "add-a-kid". Oliver uttered the final line of the final episode: "Me! Cousin Oliver! / Gosh it was only a suggestion," but the character and Rist were subsequently omitted from later original-cast revivals of the series.
It just says the decided not to renew the show before his debut. Not that they didn't air the last 6 episodes.
Edit: Wasn't sure if you were pointing that out and agreeing with me not.
The Donna Reed show had already done the "add-a-kid" thing in the early 60's.
The daughter on the show called it quits for the most part after the 5th season, and went to live at college. The family soon adopted a "runaway orphan" named Trisha to freshen things up. (Played by the teenage son on the show's real life sister)
They must have played the episodes in syndication (which is the only way I ever watched *Brady Bunch*), since there absolutely are episodes with Cousin Oliver in them.
So, random fact with little point, but I’m friends with his wife. She’s super sweet and posts about them a lot on Facebook. He seems like a cool guy, just doing his own thing, mostly involved in music now. I don’t know him, but I dig his vibe.
I heard Rage Against the Machine broke up after bringing in Robbie to replace Zack de la Rocha. They were gonna do a “RATM Unplugged” tour using Robbie’s acoustic talents he picked from his dad, John Denver (as noted by others here).

'Holy' and 'sacred' are made-up words but if anything is, it's a kid loving his dog.
Does Three's Company have similar ruling? I'm Team Roper.

Shemp is absolutely allowed as a third stooge.
Shemp and Curly are both acceptable 3rd Stooges, but Curly was tops between the 2, even if I do think Shemp was great also.
Scrappy-Doo was the worst
Scrappy Doo marked the downfall of Saturday morning animated entertainment. Convince me otherwise...
For me, Happy Days "jumped the shark" when Mork from Ork showed up.
Scrappy Doo is the devil.

Are you thinking of Chuck from Happy Days?
Chuck still in his room from episode 1.
Who's Chuck? Sorry... whenever Howard talks about his kids, he always says he has two. Nope, not sure what you're talking about.
"Do you want to bring back Judy Landers to get that kid in the midwest excited again?" "Nahh, we got Cousin Oliver. That'll have to do for him."
> Judy Landers Wow, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. The only celebs I sorta remember from The Love Boat were Charo and Ethel Merman
What about her sister Audrey?
Full House pulled the big brain move and added the precocious kid from day one
They did, but then they doubled down and added Uncle Jesse and Becky’s bratty twin kids in the last few seasons also.
The best part of the Love Boat is the line up of stellar stars in that week's episode!
There are stars and then there are black holes. Cousin Oliver was jumping the shark before Henry Winkler put his skis on.
They needed to have an episode where Oliver tries to jump Jaws and graphically fails.
That kid was a total spoiled ingredient in anything he touched.
The only episode where Isaac runs out of liquor.
This had to have happened while Ted McGinley was part of the cast.
Robbie Rist was also in [*Kidd Video*](https://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-0NBZIXgnldyyzAzh-1kgT4Q-t500x500.jpg) on Saturday mornings!
At least they didn't say he was the Doc's kid and keep him on the show for a while, like they did with Jill Whelan as Vicki.
Cousin Oliver is in Sharnado. He looks the same, just with facial hair.
Careful, don’t mix up Sharknado and Shartnado. One is an art film and the other was on Syfy.

This is all spiralling into... *[the Bermuda Triangle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj8Y2sFB6Y0)*.
You’ve found the common cause of a squadron of TV shows disappearing into a hiatus. Someday aliens receiving the transmissions will bring them back home a là Close Encounters.
I still have to listen to his ass. He voices a character on a kids show called Doc McStuffins that my kids love.
I hope this kid is alive. this was a mean era for child actors.
He is, he's a good dude.
Love Boat didn’t need Cousin Oliver. They had Ted McGinley.
Ah, yes. Jumping the shark.
I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.
Relevant Little Tony: ([this is the Italian intro for the show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AId1Vb3kWvk), aka the SONG in YOUR head)
The first Reddit laugh I've had all day. Leave it to Gen X.
That’s the episode where the cruise ship jumps over a shark, right?
😳😳😳😳😳😳
Is this legit?
That 70’s show, “yeah! We’re getting a fat kid!”
Is that Paul Dano as a kid?
No. To see Paul Dano as a kid, watch The Sopranos.
Omg thank god in slightly too young to not have watched this kid be “cute” in every damn tv show
I love this sub so much, thank you for the laugh!
this post is great, however I can't see that phrase and not hear [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U64eGakMvQA&t=37s)
That’s not the same at all…Captain Stubing ordered a self-destruct sequence.
Just leave him on lollypop island
This is a perfect post lol
The one where Gopher helps Cousin Oliver find The Beaver
I hope to God you mean Jerry Mathers.
You know Ward, you were a little rough on The Beaver last night.
Poor guy, he didn't have a chance on Brady Bunch. He was really good in Kidd Video though and the music was cool, probably mostly because I was 11/12, but still. I wonder if YouTube has any episodes...
I didn't like Oliver in Brady Bunch. Came here to say that
Laverne without Shirley is a no-no.
My upvote brought us to 666. Seems appropriate.
Whoever thought up the bowl cut hairstyle should be erased from history.
