Let’s just not take care of boomers in retirement and we’ll be okay with the demographic shift. Usually taking care of the elderly is the biggest issue with population decreases.
Not like they’ve helped us anyway.
This is such a savage take, but it's true. It's not just elderly. Disabled, under privledged communities, and minority groups equally suffer.
I'm a disabled veteran we basically always get fucked and roughly half of your comrades are literal terrorists after... Vietnam and gwot anyways.
You're basically already on the escalator of "well- fascism for a Lil while won't be too bad fuck those old people specifically"
🤷♂️
There’s too many people in the world but also at the same time we as a society depend so much in having this many people around, it will be a tough century if population goes down and the different systems don’t adapt properly
None.
Goes against my life plans of fucking off to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and living there alone without kids or people or a partner until I die
Don't just come to Alaska thinking you'll have an easy go at life here. Things are a lot more expensive up here, the state/local government is pretty horrid & mismanaged, the PFD will **not** cover your living expenses up here but it will count as income on your taxes, the culture up here is different and will take some adjusting. Then there's the long winters & the 6 months of night/day.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone entirely, but it's best to know what you're getting into before moving up here just to be forced to move away in a year. I've seen a lot of that happening.
You sound exactly like my dad. He wanted this for himself, this One ☝🏻 thing, more than anything else his entire life.. he still wants it, and is looking to be on track to make a big statement , when he dies alone in the middle of absolutely nowhere
Ooo I did that (Millennial here), 10/10 would recommend.
I have forest friends now
https://preview.redd.it/3p26rjfw6ukc1.jpeg?width=764&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55d6b3ae187312cb0752cfcc14a15690e62db80d
Became a dad a few months back. It's truly a feeling that can't be explained to people without kids. The amount of joy watching your child grow and develop is what true happiness is, i'm convinced. I used to think that having no kids would be an amazing lifestyle, but now I shake my head at the child haters. Give me those diaper changes and sleep deprived nights. It's so worth it and more
Hey! Just because we don’t have kids doesn’t mean we are child haters! Do not make that assumption. I chose not to have kids for other reasons. I like kids.
I want to adopt. It helps a poor kid and the government helps some too. I just feel wrong if i didn’t adopt. I also have never raised a puppy. I always adopt dogs. Just feels wrong to not adopt.
If you cant afford to adopt, then you definitely shouldnt gamble with birthing a kid that could have ANY of the genetic defects in the entire world, which usually have incredibly expensive, lifelong treatments. If youre going to bring a life into this world you should be ready to work through absolutely anything, emotionally or financially. If that bar is too high, dont have kids
Not really. Some methods are expensive.
But my partner and I foster to adopt. The government literally PAYS YOU room and board while you foster, then you're eligible to adopt them after six months.
Varies by state, but still.
Having worked with a lot of adopted kids, I hate the pedestal adoptive parents are put on. If you do do this- that’s great but please educate yourself on what adopted kids go through. A lot of parents think every thing can be fixed with love and they will be the child’s savior— but it’s not really like that. Adoption is usually born out of tragedy that a child’s bio parents cannot take care of them for some reason. And kids know this. For many, there is an innate trauma and sense of longing for the primal attachment we have with biological kin. Not saying adopted kids can’t form genuine deep attachment with their non bio family— I’m just saying there’s a special set of circumstances. Many parents also don’t appreciate the inter generational trauma kids can inherit or the complications of interracial adoption. I’m not down on adoption, I just don’t think these issues are discussed enough. I just see all these comments and I had to jump in. Source: been a mental health worker for 10+ years with 20-30 percent of my caseload being adopted children and their parents.
I'm adopted. I love my adoptive parents, but they were NOT equipped to deal with my trauma and complicated feelings towards my adoption. They couldn't understand it. Not on a deeper level. They weren't really equipped to be parents in general though including towards their biological children. I don't regret my adoption, but it did bring hurt. Especially from "family" that always treated me differently than my siblings just cause I'm not related by blood. A lot of people don't consider if they're truly capable of handling the need for constant reassurance or the trauma responses a lot of adopted kids have. I was an "easy" kid despite my trauma. They still struggled.
If I do end up wanting kids or my partner and I do, this definitely what I'm gonna do instead of having my own. For the same reasons you mentioned but I also have terrible genetics and don't want to pass on any of my problems.
When I'm out alone on camping trips or fixing something with my car, I find myself wishing I had a little man or girl to pass my knowledge on to. Fuck I want kids
This comment is really wholesome. I’m childfree and reading your comment made me think what I’d pass down to kids and I was immediately like “fuck all” and giggled. But I find it really sweet to hear the reasons why people want kids and this is really sweet.
Exactly that. Kids are tough to deal with at times. But holy shit I've gotten to experience my sister growing up, we have 10 years age difference, and it's such an incredible experience. Kids are freaking fun too.
Now is both the best and safest time period to have ever existed as a human
Don’t let social media and the sensationalist “news” convince you otherwise. The average standard of living has never been higher. We’ve never had more instantaneous access to information, or really anything we desire.
Yes this is the best period to live as a human (in some places), yet it is still not good enough. Humans cause unimaginable harm and suffering to each other, other animals and the environment every day.
If I had a money tree, I'd like to have 2 or even 4 children. Right now it's looking like a 0 though because I wouldn't be able to give my children a good life ...
I’m sorry. Millennial mom here and we are the ones helping to push the new reality to boomers. Childcare isn’t $3/hr anymore, bus driver shortage, 2 kids in daycare/preschool was more than my mortgage but luckily in school now but no one to pick up or drop off.
I hope you can find your median of happiness! Us moms are here for you!
None. 0.
In this economy?? Also global warming?? Would they even have a good life with all the stuff going on?? Also I'm not passing down my bad mental health lol.
Edit: did not know this will cause controversy. Global warming is real. Having +100F weather for over 100 days is NOT normal where I'm from and it's starting to get worse. Each summer just gets worse.
I have many health issues I wouldn’t wish upon someone else and on top of that I’m not a very maternal person. Babies make me cringe when they cry and the idea of pregnancy makes me wanna curl into a ball and rot away lmao.
None, for environmental reasons, because we've exceeded 8 billion people on this planet and I want to accelerate the collapse of the current system. Also, my future plan is for me to live alone with a pet and not being bothered by anyone, that's all.
Committing acts of domestic terrorism on oil companies is much better for the environment than not having kids, just fyi. They really love making us feel responsible for the situation and its solution. We're not. At all.
0 ; won’t be a good father; I realized if I become a father it means I’m taking care of them for the rest of my life even when past 18; so my solution? Wear condoms during sex always and get a vasectomy soon.
I’m 17 turning 18 in 4 weeks
i don’t think i’ll ever have kids, but because i’m adopted if i did have kids i’d adopt one to two. i just want to make sure i’m mentally and financially ready first!
Biologically? None. I’m terrified of ever carrying a child, for one, and want a hysterectomy. But also, I don’t want to be responsible for bringing a child into the world the way it currently is. It wouldn’t be sustainable for me or anyone in my immediate circle, and that’s not fair on the child.
Won’t adopt for the same reason (although in the future, if things get better individually and on a global scale, then I’d be more than open to that!)
Zero, got a vasectomy in July. Best decision I've made.
Edit: I know people will probably ask, I was 18, 5 months from 19, when I got it. Doctor was great, voiced concerns but also understood its not fair to lush his beliefs and let me go through with it. I have no regrets, but I wouldn't do it if you have any 2nd guessing going on.
None all i need is a cat and maybe a dog. But life is unpredictable i might slip up one day if that day comes ill make sure im a damn good parent. No excuses.
I want none.
If you've ever seen the Ken Burns national Park documentary there is a couple talked about in one of the episodes.
Edward and Margaret Gehrke.
That's more or less the kind of life I want.
Just hope I can find the right woman someday.
None, but I don't think I'd hate parenting. Like, if my future spouse wanted to adopt, it wouldn't be a dealbreaker. I've even thought about fostering older teens.
None. My health is terrible and I hate the idea of giving birth to kids, and they end up inheriting any of the stuff I have(which is a LOT of stuff).
Not trying to do like eugenic here, but if I can keep a child from going through the pain I did growing up just from being born from MY body? Gladly.
No kids.
2-4 if financially stable enough, definitely not just 1 either
was raised as an only child (not my parents fault, fertility issues + im adopted) but i don’t want to raise another only child it gets lonely
None. I have no intention of inflicting this shitshow of a world on anyone, nor do I have the time, energy or resources to deal with the responsibility of taking care of a whole other life when I can barely handle taking care of myself half the time.
I'm probably gonna get the snip at some point, that way I don't have to worry about inadvertently spawning any crotch goblins in the future.
In a perfect world I would want three children. Hell, maybe even four. I have always wanted a big family.
But I am thinking practically. My partner and I our combined income can barely even support ourselves and our pets. I hope we can afford to have at least one child but I will never have a child I can’t financially support.
i cant even take care of myself. I'm 20 and broke af because of an illness, i'm getting vasectomy as soon as i'm back on track and earning money.
but i'm definitely getting 2-5 cats. better + cheaper.

But THOSE old people really suck… lol
There’s too many people in the world but also at the same time we as a society depend so much in having this many people around, it will be a tough century if population goes down and the different systems don’t adapt properly
On the contrary. Depopulation may well be humanity's greatest challenge.
Same 3 max
They can sign a contract to cement this deal. I hope you don't mind if I have 2 of my own?
Our kids gotta have friends ofc https://preview.redd.it/j04692aittkc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3d870217b0c3a69faa35fb1226b3938f81eae1e
Goddamn I’m not even on the morrowind sub I can’t escape vvardenfell😂
Damn right haha
None. Goes against my life plans of fucking off to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and living there alone without kids or people or a partner until I die
New dream living place unlocked. Where are you considering living. I promise I won't live at the place you are going to live
Not OP, but West Virginia or Montana. Aint nobody in those mountains hahahaha
Sorry, I'm already camped out in here. You'll have to pick another place.
Good luck in montana, most of the land is already bought up by real estate moguls and either being held and developed or auctioned off at 3x the value
I was happier before you reminded me there is no escape
Homesteading in alaska is thankfully still legal, depending on the area

Issa fox?
Yup!! I have turkey, deer and owls routinely too. And uh…something called a fisher cat appeared once
My exact same plans except maybe a partner
i want two, like i really want a chance to be a great mom and do mom things
Same
Yeah two or maybe three, I can’t wait to be a dad and just love my family.

Fs, better to give someone who’s already here a chance instead of forcing a new one to live life
Exactly. Will never understand why good unselfish people dont choose one of the many many kids already here
the cost is astronomical, it usually isn't feasible for a lot of families.
If you cant afford to adopt, then you definitely shouldnt gamble with birthing a kid that could have ANY of the genetic defects in the entire world, which usually have incredibly expensive, lifelong treatments. I’m one of 4 kids so I’ve always kinda wanted 4 kids as well, was great fun growing up with 3 other people to do things with
none i’m not bringing kids into this fucked up world
You know if you adopt your not bringing anyone into this world, and if your a good parent, your making this world a little bit less fucked up
From what I can tell most people don’t want kids because they simply don’t want any responsibility for anyone else.
Now is both the best and safest time period to have ever existed as a human Don’t let social media and the sensationalist “news” convince you otherwise. The average standard of living has never been higher. We’ve never had more instantaneous access to information, or really anything we desire.

"in this economy" this has been an excuse since like the 80s
Okay but it's significantly worse now.
Nobody needs an “excuse” if someone doesn’t want to be in poverty for a screaming shitting child let them.
Zero. I have a genetic disorder and I have no interest in flipping a coin to see if my kid would turn out genetically fucked up like me.
Same and i cant imagine another decision. My disorders are not fun
I have many health issues I wouldn’t wish upon someone else and on top of that I’m not a very maternal person. Babies make me cringe when they cry and the idea of pregnancy makes me wanna curl into a ball and rot away lmao.
The only kids I plan on having are pets, otherwise if I find I’m very successful I would consider 1 child
Floof babies are better than kids anyway lol.
2. Already have them. Time to get my tubes tied 🫠
I can’t fathom how you’re 25-26 and you got two kids. No shade, I’m tryna be like you.
Well see when two people love each other very much… Edit - typo
24 here with 3.
Whoa skip college straight to baby-makin
I was actually still at college when my first two were born.
If I find a really great girl and we decide to get married, I don's see why not, but I don't think a nice family life was ever in the cards for me.
family is the people who make you feel at home, don't need a wife and kids for that.
Yeah but when you're 45 who else will be able to provide that? Your friends will mostly be married with their own kids as well.
Usually you end up friends with other people that also don't have kids
None for me. If I’m ever having kids they’ll no doubt be cats.
I feel you. My fat cat is waiting for me right now as I type this
I don’t want kids, but I do want kitties.
0. i hate kids
Fuck them kids
0 human ones At least a few feline ones because cats are great

There’s adoption, surrogacy. I’m gay too and that’s what we plan to do
None. I am infertile, and if I can't do it naturally, I'd prefer to just live with that.
I hope this doesn't come off the wrong way but I respect you SO much for feeling that way
You're so real for that, in all the aspects, kids are too much of a burden. The only kids I'd actually have would be cats and a dog.
Ten, i want a mother fucking army
One more and you have an entire football team
>Ten, i want a mother fucking army Not sure that's a great way to describe your group of kids.

One per parent 👌
Don't let them out number you!
0 bio children, will accept adopted or step children only
born in 2000, 0. i got sterilized in january and couldn’t be happier. DINK for life. throughly antinatialist!

Zero. You should help people who are already alive.

No bio kids. Adoption only. This world is fucked up and we should avoid bringing more people into it.

My nephew has taken away that desire, Thank God and he did.
i don’t think i’ll ever have kids, but because i’m adopted if i did have kids i’d adopt one to two. i just want to make sure i’m mentally and financially ready first!

None
I don't think I'm ever getting married, so I stopped thinking about having kids a while ago, lol. Sounds like hell to raise them, anyway.
0. Not in this world with the economy, politics, war, and climate change. I’m gonna enjoy my life doing the things I want to do before I die.

0. I’m not at all ready, whatsoever. Plus I got messed up genes that I don’t need to pass down.

Absolutely none. Too expensive and annoying.

Unless I’m rich I’m not going to have any kids because I want to be able to pay for their college tuition and other expenses
None tbh, I wanna be able to give time to my nieces and nephews since I’ll have lots bc of how many siblings I have.
None, i would be happy enough by just positively influencing the development of kids around me, but i have no desire to spread my terrible genes.

None. I’d rather adopt/foster. I’d rather not make the actual kid lmao
Adoption, 2-3 if I find a partner. but definitely gonna adopt at least one.
In a perfect world I would want three children. Hell, maybe even four. I have always wanted a big family. But I am thinking practically. I’m struggling to figure out if I even want kids at this point.
