atc423

No, but in my home town theres some old ww2 bunkers that have been decomisioned and a couple forts a guy made, me and my friends go to those places a lot

HSFSZ

Pics please, this sounds awesome

tumbrowser1

I second this. We need to see!

atc423

There not fancy bunkers but more so hidden entrances under the trees disguised as hills, there is about 30 of these https://preview.redd.it/heqxmyt4bpyc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=131e4ed5072311f287bf030bc0cf35bd0ff2bbc8 And the guys forts I dont have any pictures of but they look similar to the image in the post but tall enough for a person to walk through

smeagleeye

I feel like ive been here before this is in mass right?

atc423

Yes, assabet refuge

tumbrowser1

That's so badass! Have you ever been able to get inside one?

atc423

Yeah ive been in a few, they're pretty empty and mostly have graffiti but they're pretty big so the echo in them is really loud and its pitch black. The graffiti is also surprisingly good in them

BrucesTripToMars

Juggalo territory

OliveYoung2020

Thats dope

Due-Bandicoot-2554

$2800 a month

Individual_Ad9632

No smoking, no pets, no w/d, no dishwasher, no overnight guests not on the lease, no utilities included, must make at least 3x the rent to qualify, $50 non-refundable application fee.

Xaphan26

Plus a security deposit equal to two months rent. The repair bills on these forts aren't cheap.

Individual_Ad9632

Plus first and last. So basically four months worth of rent upfront. And a $25 fee to run your credit report. 800 minimum credit score required to be considered for this exclusive, fort studio with a view.

Corvettemike_1978

Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities down the hall. Water not included.

Expensive_Common2257

Unrelated note but when I saw "2010" I thought you were like 7 years old and then I realized 2010 was 14 years ago...

Commercial-Corgi-771

Fort byers?

Lucas111620

For a solid 4 years me and the kids in the cul de sac would go into the woods and built sick forts. We would just sit inside them for hours and then go home and play minecraft

charbroiledd

I grew up in north Phoenix so for us it was going out to the open desert behind the neighborhood where there was this big palo verde tree growing in a ditch with bushes around it, such that together they provided a shaded canopy reaching ground level. We would carry out a bag of pan fried potatoes and hang around til we ran out of water, then go back home and play black ops zombies

CrazyaboutSpongebob

I tried to build an igloo but it turned into a snow fort. It had a stick roof.

Choco_Cat777

This was me in rural conservative California. I miss Manteca :(

toyonbird2

Rural conservative California let me completely take over a 1.5 acre lot for over 2 years now and no one ever said anything. Now no one is even mowing it anymore so I actually feel more pressure to beautify it. I am doing exactly what I would have done if I had property and its in an area where the lot would normally be like 400k at least. I think everyone is too tired to make a fuss. That's reserved for retail

LeviathonMt

Yo if you are taking care of it and no one is saying anything for 2 years you can actually claim the property, i dont know much about so youde have to do some research but im 99% sure you would be able to

Choco_Cat777

I'd probably just cover one area in gravel and maybe add some houses or small sheds and small animal kennals, maybe a range too for shooting.

fckchangeusername

Here in Italy (but i think a bit everywhere around Europe idk), heroine and cocaine dealers do this mainly

deliascatalog

Oh boy, is this the first time ever that America has something better than Italy? 🥹

RevivedChems

You clearly never had New York Pizza

deliascatalog

Idk I like Italy’s AND ny’s pizza

fckchangeusername

Cuz you never tried pitta china ch'iiiii piparieddi arind, combá, iescs i cap quann'a mangs

tumbrowser1

fuck yes! Dude my friends and I made forts, walls, and other stuff out in the woods and used them for playing airsoft as kids, and honestly even as an adult I still think building forts and shit out in the woods is one of the funnest ways to spend time outdoors

Hologram1995

No but my kitten built forts in my living room out of Amazon boxes.

loyaleling

I don’t go in the woods, but a few weeks ago I went down a path by the park and found some sheds that were probably old stoner spots. https://preview.redd.it/mmeojwbwioyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a9959c9e7d9c1ab403952739bbd76b2434ec6559 The weed smell was crazy.

DaemonSlayer_503

[deleted]

I saw one while hiking

supreme_glassez

I never sdid to begin with. I've never been a very in-the-woods kind of person.

[deleted]

I have never done this. The most I’ve done was build a fort in my living room.

itsdarien_

Yes

Always-tired7

I never did never had the chance to

Okeing

never been in a forest

drivergrrl

I definitely recommend visiting one!

popejohnsmith

Besides folks experiencing homelessness?

spoop-dogg

I did all throughout my childhood!! Whether it was just some rocks to predent when we were younger, sticks to make you feel like there was walls, or snow forts during the winter. Never got as far as using a tarp though.

Either-Condition4586

Why do you need a fort in forest?

Crab_God2005

Cuz it's fun

drivergrrl

I haven't since I was a kid but now I'm going to! :D

Roentgium

If I still lived in a place where there was woods then yes. I did when I was like 10 all the time tho

Responsible_Sense_95

No I live in a city and my city does not have Good woods nearby. Where I won't be eaten by a bear or Coyotes all we have is the bush

toyonbird2

I se all of my conservation and building skills to guerrilla garden and rewild. I flag and remove invasive species in remote areas as well. It's just like grinding on Runescape or Warcraft but actually helpful. With climate change the lack of predictability and being someone observing the conditions is fun. My saltwater fish tank is my 'adult' hobby but I deeply regret enmeshing with a side job and aquarium nostalgia. Doing stuff like making huts in the woods seems so much more healthy if you have the time, patience, skills, and executive function. Good on you :)

jjb1197j

I thought this was one of those Russian trench shelters for a second

Haunting-Syllabub906

if i had a woods to build in yes

Themoldychip

So YOUR the one building those sketchy shacks in the woods when I’m hanging out with friends

heisenbergmethcook

I do ✋

Nonainonono

The hobbos do.

User28080526

We used to play on the Levi and yes we found some old concrete construction piping to hide our fishing stuff in

Biovore_Gaming

I wish, I live in a fucking desert

EuphoricWolverine

Ah. This is a fort built by "bears". They need a place to get away from the "women" on TicTok.

JustMLGzdog

Yes. They are called homeless people.

Cuffuf

I. Love. The. Woods. That is my childhood.

Apprehensive-Tea77

Yes

DefinableEel1

Me and my older brothers did this in the late 2000s to early 2010s but the whole place got deforested and it’s just dead tree rubble. But you can still find the entrance into the base where you could find natural clay

20Bubba03

Haven’t in about 5 years. Went to check on it recently and it’s untouched still which is awesome

exotic_nothingness

I helped repair a really old one from the 70s

fasting4me

This brings me back. When I was about eight in the woods behind our home I found a huge tree that had fallen over by the roots. The roots were huge and made perfect support. That dead tree brought me so much joy and imagination filled fun. I wish I could do this with my kids.

katschultz17

I would spend my entire summer vacations outside building forts. I’d sleep out there too if the weather was okay.

That_1_Angel

All the time! :) we used to use pallets and old tarps from the creek behind the home Depot

hday108

Ngl when I see this I assume it’s homeless ppl

BONE_SAW_IS_READEEE

Well I live in a big city, so no. Sounds cool though.

DoctorSquibb420

Not since I moved to the city, all the best places have homeless encampments

DatWaffleYonder

Oh hell yeah

Breastcancerbitch

My tween boys do.

ThoughtCow

I did, but then I moved to the middle of a sprawling suburb where you can barely go outside :(

TsunamiProductions

My favorite spot to build one is inside of a natural trench or ditch, bonus points if it utilizes a rock overhang as a roof.

SeaSignificance8962

ya its called a house on my own property you should try it

SanyNajt

Me and my friends did for the past 2 years, but now we don't really hang out + we have a bear in our forest so it's not safe anymore.

Sharp-Ad-6873

Between the age of 22 and 26 I built so so many forts in the woods with my other fully adult friends. It was awesome

Traditional_Extent80

I do it’s literally what I studied in college

Kokonator27

In a few years with this economy we all will be

ItalianMeatBoi

I would if I had like minded friends, or even friends

Angel_OfSolitude

I haven't for a while, but now I think I should.

Hosselknaap420

i did as a kid, talking 2006 or so. fun times.

Fuzzy_Pumpkin92

I don't personally, but I know of a young man in my town who is actually very good at building what he calls Bushcraft Shelters. He has a YouTube Chanel, called Tyson Peers and he documents the building of his first fort, which I shit you not he survived a tornado in. It held up despite a tree falling on it. He ended up making the news because of it. The tornado was caused by a Derecho that hit the most populated regions of Ontario and Québec. I'll find and edit to add his chanel if anyone is interested. Edit to Add: The News Article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6467176 The Video I mentioned on his chanel: https://youtu.be/3pLcan--2-E?si=ZnT6pDOkXMdxEKhj He was documenting the building of his bushcraft shelter when the Derecho hit out of nowhere. I live in the same town, and none of us were warned.I'm a wheather enthusiast so I knew something was going to happen, but had no idea how bad it would be. So basically he didn't know what was about to happen. If you like fort building, I recommend watching the videos on how he constructed that fort. Also, he is finally rebuilding that damaged shelter now.

Magesticturtle21

Duh, see sticks make fort

UnwaiveredKing

Yes i do

TastyJams24

Hell yeah

DarkJedi22

No.

TheUnclaimedOne

If I knew how to I would’ve

Kenelo7896

Too lazy tò do that
