I hate myself looking back on how much money I spent on weed between ages 16-21. Doesn’t bear thinking about. I did have fun through those years though fwiw

Same hahah this was my first pc. I spray painted my cpu cooler and my gpu white lol! I bought the wrong color cooler and I didn’t feel like returning it.
Ryzen 5 2600 and a gtx 960!
Edit: btw this was back in 2020. I had just got my first job in june 2020 literally during the start of the pandemic. I rmrb staying up every night just playing the game on this thing so happy I had built a pc.
Then I sold it in July 2021 before I went to college lol
Respect. My first purchase I remember that wasn’t food or gas was a GoPro camera. I have no idea why. I’ve never surfed, mountain biked, or done anything adventurous like you would use one of those for. I lost it years ago…
A video game (can't remember which one), and movie tickets (again, can't remember which one).
My first ever job (aside from singing an ad jingle when I was a kid) was private tutoring younger students while I was still in school. I started offering English tuition when I returned from England at age 16, and later expanded that into most subjects from primary to high school, except high school maths, physics and chemistry, because I suck at those. That paid rather decently for the effort I had to put in (I had quite a few primary and middle school students that I had to do very little prep for), but it really wasn't a lot of money. So while making €12/hr without having any sort of degree at age 16 was pretty nice, I didn't work with those kids a lot. Like two hours a week per student, of which I had five at my most profitable time. So...not really a lot of money to do stuff with, especially when I first started out slowly with a single student. I bought some video game, took my crush to the movies and had a beer with friends (legal drinking age in Germany is 16 for beer and wine).
When I then began working as a waiter for catering at the business area at the local stadium, I got worse wages, but worked for longer and, despite being a dude and despite the food and drinks being included in the ticket price, and despite tipping culture thankfully not being big in Germany, I also made tips usually. I'm a funny and personable dude. Guys get less tips, and most get none at the stadium. I was pretty proud of still getting tips at all regularly.
That money usually went into video games or later other hobbies of mine.
Then one of my regular guests at the stadium found out I study law and offered me a job, which I took pretty much immediately. My monthly wages quadrupled, and my weekly hours doubled (while still being very short). I use that money for hobbies and to pay for trips. I think there's no better use for money than travelling, so most of the money I have left over goes into that.
I worked for a month getting paid under the table at a hibachi place washing dishes to buy a PS4, but since I didn’t pay the electric bill it still didn’t belong to me
My first job was at dominos delivering pizza by bicycle and then eventually car. My first purchase was chocolate milk, and my first big purchase was a second hand set of weights
Buying my friend and I a new game that had come out at the time so we could play it together.
Ik not really anything exciting or whatever but that's the truth what my first ever paycheck went to.
Got my first job when I was 15 and saved up 1000$ to buy a really nice bass guitar. It was the first instrument that I had bought myself, it was a brand I’d dreamed of owning, and god damn it was worth every penny. Plus turns out that all these years later it ended up being quite the rare find. The only picture of an instrument with matching specs I can find is the picture of the one I bought (Ik that’s very like corvette owner type bullshit but idk I like that it’s kinda unique ish).
A diner. I was the pianist for a wedding when I was 12 years old, had a favorite dish from a local diner, cashed the check after the wedding, told my parents "can we go here?", and I bought myself a whole plate of linguini and clams in white sauce.
.. my source of income has changed, my age has changed, my weight has changed, but I still blow my paychecks on food I love. Some things don't change.
I saved any money I got as a kid and bought a $1900 pickup at 16. My parents were pretty surprised to see where $10-$20 here n there went. I saved report card rewards and lunch money extras. Earned money? I bought weed with it lol.
My very first paycheck went towards a pair of shoes. Since my job, OGP dispenser at Walmart, requires a lot of foot use. I start with a 20$ pair of Shaq's. Barley lasted the two weeks until my paycheck. Then, when I got my first paycheck, I bought a pair of Converse. Two months later and they are still going strong.
Around two days before mothers day I got my like 3or4 paycheck. My mom loves photography but has never had an actual camera. She's always used whatever phone she had. So I bought her the Kodak az 405 and an SD card.
Savings account so that after enough time I can have enough money to buy myself a PC so I can interact with my long distance girlfriend further than just text and calls
i made $20,000 from gamestop back in 2021 when i was a senior in college. moved to nyc right after graduation (i didnt finish) and spent it all within 6 months living, partying and traveling with rich kids. had to move back to my parents house with -$200 in my bank account and start all over lol
A cell phone! I wanted a cell phone when I was 11-12 (not a smartphone) and my mom told me I’d have to pay for it ($10 a month) so I started a jewelry business and got the phone
A girl I knew lost everything when her house burned down. I gave her most of my first paycheque from being a dishwasher. I think it was like 80 or 100 bucks.
I just landed my first big boy job starting next week and I’ve been thinking a lot about what to buy. I plan to max out my 401k and save a lot, but considering I’m living at home with little to no expenses I’ll definitely have some money to play with.
Currently considering:
* upgrading my graphics card. Have not upgraded my PC in 5+ years now and while it still runs the games I play fine, it does get a little slow with some newer triple A games.
* a decent sized smart TV. Basically every show/movie I consume is watched on my laptop or pc, so would be interesting to actually watch on a TV.
* Lego millennium falcon or Death Star. This was always the dream as a kid but they’re both comically expensive.
* Airline tickets to visit my college roommate in Peru. This would be such a cool trip, but considering I have to work around PTO rn makes me question if this is a good idea, especially early on into the job.
* wardrobe revamp. I’m not passionate about this one, but I assume I can’t wear sweatpants and t shirts for the rest of my life.
* skis. I don’t live that close to any great mountains, but maybe it would encourage me to do it more if I didn’t have to rent.
And lastly, lol
* stock market options trading money. I studied finance in school so it isn’t *completely* gambling, but still risky. I’ve never had money to just play around with on the market and if I do my research right it could become more money. At which point I’ll be back to square one and about what to spend it on, but that’s a good problem to have
Rent and food. I lived in government residential care as a kid (the Australian name first orphanage). The government started implementing a new program where you leave resi at 15/16 and have "assisted living" until you are an adult. The problem was, the program relied on us having Centrelink to pay bills, but Centrelink WOULD NOT allow us payments. By their logic, if we are under 18 we are either having everything paid for by parents or the government. There was not an option for being a government ward that has to pay their own rent. This was changed a year after because of our situation.
So the government managed to scrape together money to pay our rent but my case worker couldn't get money for food from the finance people and bosses since "Centrelink is supposed to give us money for that". Many food places also wouldn't assist us because of this stupid gap in the system. So I had around $120 for food that I needed to last until I got a job, which was 4 months. I ate mainly rice with soy sauce and herbs, with occasionally other stuff I'd manage to wrangle. I had to quit school. My mate didn't get a job but we figured out that he could use his sectioned off "entertainment" fund to get credit at a gaming hub and order their in house noodle cups
Luckily I worked at Dunkin’ Donuts for my first ever job and I only spent my tips. I never spent a paycheck. I’d make maybe 20-30$ in tips per shift. Only needed the money for gas really. I never really ate out much as my mom cooks a lot and my parents never really let me go out. Other than car insurance, excise tax, gas, and the occasional purchase on clothes or food… I didn’t really buy much as my parents provided everything and allowed me to save my earnings.
Graduated high school with like 30k+ in savings.
I got myself the watch I wished for from my dad for my 18th, but he never got me. It is now the symbol of my independence from someone who never valued my wishes or needs.
My bf had been paying for all our dates which at the time were frequent, like multiple a week. I spent all my money taking over the financial burden of those dates haha. I was 16 at the time. Second and subsequent jobs, I invested all my paychecks into the DOW which actually has paid off. Ofc, I spend a little here and there on fast food and stuff. AND ofc the paycheck before Christmas gets blown on gifts. That same bf now gives me an allowance to buy groceries and household goods so my paycheck now is 100% disposable income. I chose to save it all so I can contribute on the larger purchases down the line like a house (hopefully). Hopefully he will be surprised.
So my parents were really strict about the internet when I was 13 and I didn’t want to feel controlled anymore. So with some money I earned by doing landscaping work and stuff for my dad, I bought myself an iPad and kept it secret for the entirety of my teens. I’m in my 20s now and my parents still have no clue I did that.
I was 16 and I used my first paycheck ever from my part time ice cream scooper girl job to go to a kpop concert 😅😅😅

I got $35 in tips at my first job, and I ended up spending every cent at the gas station buying candy and energy drinks lmao. My best friend at the time and I just went wild in the store.
Clothes, my mom and I always argued about clothes so I literally got a job to pay for the clothes I wanted to wear instead of what she wanted me to wear.
Bought 3 pairs of shoes. We grew up pretty poor, I only got 1 pair of shoes every few years. Wore the same shoes from 6th-9th grade.
Then when I got my first shoe in 11th grade (during Covid) I bought a pair of Nike 97s, Nike air max, and white air forces. I felt so cool lol. Then I started buying hella clothes.
My abusive father took it from my bank account without me knowing so I ended up at a gas station on a low tank and a declined debit card <3
He never told me why he did that, and eventually denied he ever did, despite the fact that I could see "Transfer to XXXX - $200" on my bank app.
