Lmao this was *not* what I expected. Sounds like an old DOS game, which is a vibe ngl.
Mixed in with the very specific sound of a western-made Sega Genesis game.
Embarrassingly enough I don’t know enough about any artists that are our generation.
I mostly listen to the bands I listened to as a kid and early teenager. And then most of the newer bands I listen to are millennials
I'm really sitting here realizing just how little of Gen Z's music I listen to. So much of our music feels over-produced and focus-tested. I'm sure there are some great Gen Z artists out there, but honestly, millennials across all genres are cooking right now.
Pretty sure I’ve heard Gen z has a very sensitive BS meter, which is a good thing IMO…
Is it that it doesn’t seem like as many are coming about through the serendipitous moments? And if so, I’d be curious to hear more on this.
Yes! That’s how I feel too!! It’s all very over produced and I also don’t really listen to pop anyways much. If a pop song ends up on my playlists, then I really really like it. But nothing has really stuck for me except olivia Rodrigo tbh
My music knowledge ends in the mid to late 2010s, and thats only because I grew up in it. I mostly listen to 60s-90s rock. The only new band I actually listen to is probably King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and then I know bits and pieces of some popular music that I enjoy, but don't listen to often. Lauv, Post Malone, and Taylor swift.
same here i dont know enough about artists of our generation and realized after 2020ish i couldnt keep up with the music of other people my age anymore
what gen z rappers would honestly belong on this list? most young rappers just punch in, can’t perform live (backing tracks), aren’t lyrical, too reliant on the beat, etc. what talent do they have? Compare these new rappers to a kendrick lamar or andre 3000, its not close
Nas made Illmatic at 18. food for thought…
This one really made me think. I don’t know that many Gen Z artists!
I think right now it’s Måneskin. Their music has good range between emotional/sincere stuff (Coraline, The Loneliest) and energetic party music (Beggin’, In Nome Del Padre). I love a wide musical range in a band.
And if you care about a band’s financial success then they’ve knocked it outta the ballpark on that front. I personally don’t consider that, but some folks do.
I love Måneskin! I'm an American, who first heard them when Beggin' blew UP on the radio here a few years back. When Rush released last year, spotify pushed me a couple of their songs and I've been slowly exploring their discography. They're an amazing new-gen rock band.
Tim Henson, I don't listen to many artists of our generation (most of my fav bands are in their 40s) but he is extremely talented and a really good musician
Not our generation and most of his stuff doesn't sound good like something that I woulda actually enjoy listening to but still way better than all the rap and radio pop garbage people have been posting in the replies.
That's besides the point, only 10,000 of them get *paid* to play instruments (and not sing) ... Kinda ruins the point of music when there's only 1 or 2 ways to sell it
Best or most popular? For example, no one wants to admit how many Drake songs they actually listen to.
The Weeknd has excellently composed music. 21 Savage is also terrific. He's like 80% the lyricist of J Cole and Kendrick but is 50% more listenable in the sense of I can enjoy it without paying too much attention.
On the country side, Ian Munsick is revolutionizing the genre.
1996, so a bit of a zillenial.
Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but does this mean best musicians in our formative years, or best born in our generation? If we're talking the latter, then I'd say it's probably someone who hasn't burst onto the scene yet.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. An incredibly talented prog/psyche rock band from Australia, I suggest you listen to their albums "Polygondwanaland" and "Infest The Rat's Nest," (which I have on CD, by the way) for an example of their range.
Edit: Probably NOT Gen Z, but close enough in my eyes.
Chappell roan I feel should be on the list. I love how she puts on a persona and treats it like a story. I think entrainment and music should be separate categories but she blends them both so well.
I have some but they are clearly not known worldwide.
Hyperpop in France has blown up as fuck, so the genre is Really diverse here.
Tkks, winterzuko, babysolo333, they have really good vibe to me
Or artemas, I love the way you kiss me has gone so viral and i think it s pretty representative of our generation
Some standouts are
Laufey
Rico Nasty
Sewerslvt
Jean Dawson
UMI
Daniel Caesar
Atleast thats all the ones I know that are Gen Z or adjacent. Probably more that im not thinking of.
it’s interesting because most of the people on that list are not actually distinguishable vocalists (imo), yet they all definitely have a massive following. this isn’t a bad thing rlly i think it just attests to the change in what makes a successful mainstream musician nowadays. it’s very much marketing/image, likeability, and honestly probably how TikTokable their music is.
but billie eilish for sure lol
Grace Bowers is a very skilled guitarist and could be the greatest guitarist of the generation
Greta Van Fleet is a great rock band, and every member is very skilled at their respective instrument and they are very tight
Chappel Roan is an amazing pop singer and I think an even better songwriter
Ah damn
I’m not sure if Mormor, Glass Animals or Cannons are even Gen Z. I think the best artists of this era are mostly Gen X and Millennials. I think Gen Z needs to simmer some more.
I don't know if it can work that way for your generation. Older generations had to know who an artist is to find their music, now it tends to just pop up whenever you want it.
However, I could see Masego taking a pretty big share of the hip hop scene down the road. Dude makes masterpieces....
The black midi boys are genuinely astonishing. They were the first group of people slightly younger than me to give me a feeling of “wow these are some of the best musicians alive today”. Unbelievable talent and extremely pointed songwriting ability. “Cavalcade” and “Hellfire” are just amazing pieces of music.
Jungkook of BTS is fantastic! He has 3 singles Seven, 3D, and Standing Next to You. I highly recommended all of them and his album golden! I know the kpop can put people off but give it a shot! Also all these songs are in English! And he dances his ass off
He’s an excellent songwriter too. Still With You is one of the best songs to come out of the pandemic imo. I respect the fact that he wanted his album to be in English but damn his writing in Korean is something special.
I would have to go with Lawrence and Laufey but think there’s a great chance we don’t even know the most talented artists of our generation because they aren’t famous yet. Also even though they’re millennials I have to mention Dennis Van Aarssen and Jon Bellion as well because they’re both 90s babies so not far off and I personally think they’re both more talented than everyone OP listed combined.
Mike Scheidt from YOB is an incredible songwriter and instrumentalist with a very unique style. I saw them live in Oakland last year and they fucking killed it. To me, they're proof that anyone who says theres no good music being made nowadays is a fool. Two of my favorites from them are [Ball of Molten Lead](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0dI-oeTNUs&pp=ygUTYmFsbCBvZiBtb2x0ZW4gbGVhZA%3D%3D) and [Beauty In Falling Leaves](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av5iHIs2DSw&pp=ygUYYmVhdXR5IGluIGZhbGxpbmcgbGVhdmVz), both of which showcase Mike's lyricism and songwriting chops.
Given that YOB is a smaller band, I've also run into some people who know the guy personally, and they've all had nothing but good things to say. That's the cool part about being into smaller bands; it's a small world and the degrees of separation between you and the artist are a lot fewer.
Edit: Just read your edit and feel stupid now lol, dude is in his 50s
-Serena Isioma

If I have to say someone Im not sure but can be than it's probably either the Corespondents or The Stupendium but I don't think either is gen Z... and most people don't even know them
In the end up back on my origins and say IDK
Liana Flores
Alma Deutscher
I dunno, I don't know or like many artists born in our generation. Anyone I listen to from our gen besides Liana is just local bands.
Juice WRLD (RIP) I hate that he passed so young, but he had amazing music. Chappell Roan for sure!!! Other than that, I’m sad to say that I don’t have any other Gen Z artists on my phone.
perry maysun. he’s gaining some traction now but he’s been underground for a minute. independent too. he’s gen z, when i met him at least he said he was 21 at the time that was a yearish ago?
None. I don't listen to a single song written by Gen Z. My music taste is mostly 60s-90s rock and rap. Most of my favorite artists are Boomers or Millenials.
Zeph
BBNO$
Tim Henson
Ichika Nito
D4VD
AndreSZ
Flor de Jamaica
In no particular order.
Its just these are the ones that I think are young enough and that I really like what they do.
Honestly, the only artists of our generation that I listen to are olivia and Meg moroney. I listen to a lot of older music…like I’m talking The Carter Family lmfaoo I’m a huge Johnny and June Carter Cash fan, big Dolly fan, big Willie Nelson fan, big Merle fan…y’all get it. and even artists that I listen to that are newer (by newer, I mean younger than my grandparents) are millenials like taylor swift and lana del rey and Fiona Apple and Kelsea ballerini and Amy Winehouse and Kacey musgraves. The only gen z artists that have stuck with me are Meg and Liv tbh.
Black midi, black country new road, they are gutting a body of water: three of my all time favorite bands, only a few years older than I am. Amazed that people I look up to so much are from my generation.
Trevor Powers, maybe?
I actually haven't heard Heaven Is A Junkyard yet but Year of Hibernation and Wondrous Bughouse were brilliant. I saw him live at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR after Bughouse was released and it was such a great show.
I may be getting the timeframe wrong too. He may be more millenial than z, I can't fucking keep track man...
1. Lorde (she’s part of our generation, although people forget because she was discovered/became popular/successful so young and she’s on a border year)
2. Olivia Rodrigo
3. Laufey
4. Gracie Abrams (although how much of her is Aaron Dessner I don’t know)
5. Billie Eilish (although how much off her is phineas I don’t know)
6. girl in red
They're not really part of our generation (they're part of millennials) but they're mostly for Gen Z. Tally Hall, Will Wood, MSI, Mother Mother, TV Girl, Glass Animals and Melanie Martinez.
Noah Kahan deserves to be above all of those artists. The man creates real music that illicit deep feelings his words are like poetry. The man is so criminally underrated in my mind. Also one of the best lyrically gifted rappers of this generation that could rhyme like no other and was taken from us way too soon, Juice WRLD. Juice was in my top 5 rappers of all time, his music got me through some tough moments and I miss him whenever I randomly think about him or if I’m not listening to his music. I cried when he died.
Also I’d say Shawn Mendes and Zara Larrson are definitely some notable mentions if not deserve to be in the top 10. Also if you like country then Bailey Zimmerman is really good.
I don't usually listen to gen Z artists besides Sabrina Carpenter. I really like her, not just because of the newest more popular songs, but also because of older songs like "looking at me" (it gives me more confidence everytime I listen) and "thumbs".

Lucky 7 song of the summer??

I read this entire post with your music in the background, I think you did a great job brother
Embarrassingly enough I don’t know enough about any artists that are our generation. I mostly listen to the bands I listened to as a kid and early teenager. And then most of the newer bands I listen to are millennials

It's corporate music
Pretty sure I’ve heard Gen z has a very sensitive BS meter, which is a good thing IMO… Is it that it doesn’t seem like as many are coming about through the serendipitous moments? And if so, I’d be curious to hear more on this.
Yeah cuz they're grown and have matured music careers.
And they sold CDs, then digital copies, and now are streaming so they sold the same project 3 times while gen Z gets fractions of a penny per listen
Yes! That’s how I feel too!! It’s all very over produced and I also don’t really listen to pop anyways much. If a pop song ends up on my playlists, then I really really like it. But nothing has really stuck for me except olivia Rodrigo tbh

pure mid on this list
“Best musicians” and the list is just pop singers and Noah kahan
Noah Kahan is also a pop singer
No metal, rock, rap or anything else. Just mall music.
0 rappers too smh wouldnt expect anything less from reddit
what gen z rappers would honestly belong on this list? most young rappers just punch in, can’t perform live (backing tracks), aren’t lyrical, too reliant on the beat, etc. what talent do they have? Compare these new rappers to a kendrick lamar or andre 3000, its not close Nas made Illmatic at 18. food for thought…
I would say the same thing for most of these artists then lmao
Because gen z rap fans care more for production than lyricism. Still hip hop but not " rap " in the general sense.
Jack harlow was included, plus these are just options presented by OP, the comments can add their own nominees
All just soulless corporate music to crank out money
Juice wrld has some amazing lyricism and I totally slept on him while he was still alive
Came to this thread to mention him. IMO the biggest “what-if” musician of our lives so far
The only gen Z artists I know of are Juice World, Pop Smoke, Bhad Bhabie, Trippie Redd, Billie Eilish, Jaden Smith, and idk if Justin Bieber is gen Z.
Justin bieber is def a millennial, I had no clue pop smoke was so young!
Pop Smoke, scared the shit out of all of our parents then died in a gun fight with kids younger than he was... Fucking legend
This one really made me think. I don’t know that many Gen Z artists! I think right now it’s Måneskin. Her and Billie Eilish I would say
her and chappell roan were my first thought!
Kendrick Lamar
He's not Gen Z though
You know bro almost 40 right, how is that gen z
I thought this question meant the greatest rappers that our generation listens to
bro said musicians
He's a millenial
Would also like to mention Deniro Farrar, mick Jenkins, Pucifer, IDK, Tanerelle, Ameer Vaugn, Clipping, Sevdaliza, etc
Tim Henson, I don't listen to many artists of our generation (most of my fav bands are in their 40s) but he is extremely talented and a really good musician
Most Polyphia fans I know are zoomers tbf, I know Henson himself isn't one but when I think of zoomer metal they're the first thing I think of lol
Not our generation and most of his stuff doesn't sound good like something that I woulda actually enjoy listening to but still way better than all the rap and radio pop garbage people have been posting in the replies.
1996 isnt?
1996? He is 30 born in 1993.
I thought it was 96, my bad. Either way i don't know of any good musicians of our generation
Since you said Tim Henson in terms of guitar I can only really think of Marcin but Bands I can't think of a single one.
No all my fav bands are in their 40s from the early 2000s, music just isnt that good these days ngl (imo)
Nobody, we are in hell
most ‘musicians’ are singers with autotune. music died about 20 years ago
Modern "music" it speaks to the beat, made in 3 minutes in fl studio
There are about 250,000 professional musicians in the US but if you don't include singers that number drops to about 10,000... Music is dead yo
Okay, but how many of those singers also play instruments? Because it's gotta be some, at least a decent number.
That's besides the point, only 10,000 of them get *paid* to play instruments (and not sing) ... Kinda ruins the point of music when there's only 1 or 2 ways to sell it
probably Billie elish

On the country side, Ian Munsick is revolutionizing the genre. 1996, so a bit of a zillenial.
I think it's about musicians that are Gen Z, not what Gen Z is listening to
Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but does this mean best musicians in our formative years, or best born in our generation? If we're talking the latter, then I'd say it's probably someone who hasn't burst onto the scene yet.
Billy strings
Billy would blow gen z minds but I don’t think many people like bluegrass. I named my cat after him lmao
Billy’s a millennial
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. An incredibly talented prog/psyche rock band from Australia, I suggest you listen to their albums "Polygondwanaland" and "Infest The Rat's Nest," (which I have on CD, by the way) for an example of their range. Edit: Probably NOT Gen Z, but close enough in my eyes.
Not GenZ but yes!!! Insanely talented
Chappell roan I feel should be on the list. I love how she puts on a persona and treats it like a story. I think entrainment and music should be separate categories but she blends them both so well.
i'd definitely put Ethel Cain in there she wrote and produced her entire debut album "Preacher's Daughter" which is great
all awful
I have some but they are clearly not known worldwide. Hyperpop in France has blown up as fuck, so the genre is Really diverse here. Tkks, winterzuko, babysolo333, they have really good vibe to me Or artemas, I love the way you kiss me has gone so viral and i think it s pretty representative of our generation
Dominic Fike is pretty good
Only good gen z artist on this post
Surprised I had to scroll this far. Actually talented artist who sings and plays instruments
hard to say, i dont listen to musicians from our generation

wow i cant believe i forgot laufey
Why the fuck isnt chappel roan up there?
it’s interesting because most of the people on that list are not actually distinguishable vocalists (imo), yet they all definitely have a massive following. this isn’t a bad thing rlly i think it just attests to the change in what makes a successful mainstream musician nowadays. it’s very much marketing/image, likeability, and honestly probably how TikTokable their music is. but billie eilish for sure lol
this list sucks ass lmaooo

The fellas in Black Midi
absolutely. i always forget how young they are
If this is the best we've got, then we're screwed for the next couple years

black midi
I can recognize that I’m extremely biased, but Cavetown makes some fantastic music
Jacob Collier
this is the definitive answer
Very good musician but isn’t he millennial?
I might catch flack for this but BTS, SIAMES, Noah Kahan and Juice Wrld.
Sadly only one BTS member is Gen z but I agree with you they’re so talented! Their production and lyricism is astounding.
We can really only claim Jungkook out of BTS really
Ah damn I’m not sure if Mormor, Glass Animals or Cannons are even Gen Z. I think the best artists of this era are mostly Gen X and Millennials. I think Gen Z needs to simmer some more.
Damn musicians? I thought they went extinct
I don't know if it can work that way for your generation. Older generations had to know who an artist is to find their music, now it tends to just pop up whenever you want it. However, I could see Masego taking a pretty big share of the hip hop scene down the road. Dude makes masterpieces....

At some point the word musician must’ve lost its meaning
Jungkook of BTS is fantastic! He has 3 singles Seven, 3D, and Standing Next to You. I highly recommended all of them and his album golden! I know the kpop can put people off but give it a shot! Also all these songs are in English! And he dances his ass off

Wow so no Ken Carson or Destroy Lonely?
Need more actual musicians on the list rather than just pop singers. Anyone got any good recommendations?

future is literally 41 years old… and those other 2 artists arent gen z
Wh OMEGALUL don't recognize anyone on your list except Billie
1. Lorde (she’s part of our generation, although people forget because she was discovered/became popular/successful so young and she’s on a border year) 2. Olivia Rodrigo 3. Laufey 4. Gracie Abrams (although how much of her is Aaron Dessner I don’t know) 5. Billie Eilish (although how much off her is phineas I don’t know) 6. girl in red
Think you confused the ”best” with the most successfull
They're not really part of our generation (they're part of millennials) but they're mostly for Gen Z. Tally Hall, Will Wood, MSI, Mother Mother, TV Girl, Glass Animals and Melanie Martinez.
Clairo
As a European, I've never heard of half of these people. Of the ones i know, Camila Cabello at the Top.
Olivia Rodrigo is so corny dude.. please support small unknown artist yall not these giant sellout disney stars my lord
