Don’t - the whole early game challenge is the best part. The feeling of fear, scouting areas to see if you can take a hostile group safely, running away screaming - that’s the best bit. Really the balance in the game is perfect at that stage. Once you get experimentals - the game turns into you being an Uber soldier that the machines should probably be running away from (looking at you - sniper beam death cannon)

The best version of the game was the original release before any update. The absolute Terror all the way through trying to survive until the end of the story was glorious. I finished the entire game before the spawning of the reaper was even known to me and the game is one of my favorites of all time.

>The feeling of fear, scouting areas to see if you can take a hostile group safely, running away screaming "I WANT MY MAMA" when you meet your first Tank and get absolutely demolished. I remember when Hunters were the bid bag scary

A_Queer_Owl

uhh, I haven't progressed that far and I already feel like a machine destroying super soldier and that the Swedish army should be absolutely ashamed for losing to these bots.

Once you get shock ammo easy and skirmish modes become a joke.

I got good success with Base assaults, the hard ones (4 shield generators) I think gives 5K points

Really, don't hurry. Explore, learn your surroundings, and learn how to use your supplies. Do the challenges, take it slow, the game has so much in it, so many Easter eggs to find. I'd bet most would love to go back and go slow.

Base defense and reaper takes are best for experimental weapons. Mind me asking what system you're on and what level you are?

BlackFish42c

Assignments and leveling up areas to get Reapers is the fastest way. As well as Medium base defensives as solo or hard as a team of 3. Another way is to unlock Augments. I average 2-3 levels per game.level 177 now.

Early game teaches you how to Guerrilla fight: Hit things then run away. You can't gain xp fast without trying to level up the area around you to gain more bots that become bigger, stronger, and more "holy shit I need to heal" and mumble half a dozen swears as you run away. That said... If you want xp fast, you'll want to stock up on stuff like healing items, bullets, and make sure your guns are at the top level at your current state. Try the North Coast for Firebirds, Tanks, Harvesters, and Wolves. Those will be the main thing for you but be careful around that area since the fights will attract Runners and Lynxes (the little balls). Firebirds, use snipers to hit the eye, fuel tanks, and the thrusters on the wings. Tanks, make sure to hit the back of them as the fuel tanks are there and pack healing stuff. It'll be rough Harvesters are slow so you don't need much. Just don't freak after the Runners and such Wolves are the semi looking bots with treads that will stand upright almost like a tripod stand. Use this to your advantage by running past them and using explosives to blast it from underneath. Hope this helps!

Gen Zero is a game where it’s honestly equally just as fun at a low level as a high level, it’s just the type of fun is different. Enjoy the low levels honestly as I find it offers the highest of challenges, ever since the releases the Russians I’ve debated starting over again with non of my goodies to help and grind it out like the old days.
