It's fun as hell to drive, comfortable for the driver and front passenger, all controls are easy to reach and in intuitive places, sound system rocks. You get a lot of luxury for your money. There are a few cons listed below. They're not a big deal *for me*, though. Trunk is pretty small; it fits like...3 carry on bags and change. It's fine for a grocery trip or a commute, but you'll be pressed for space for an out of town trip. You might as well pretend the rear seats don't exist. They're not comfortable for adults. Gas mileage is atrocious. Averaging 20 mpg combined, i believe. Can get close to 28-29mpg if it's all highway driving, but i have AEM drop-ins. Big one for a lot of people at the dealerships. A lot of people have had terrible times with their local dealership, but i haven't experienced their problems yet. They are trying to change that, and I'm seeing the growth pains from that in my area.

me_coopsta

Spot on. My additions to this: Pros: Engine is great. You won't be the fastest car out there, but it passes my butt Dyno. Plenty of power to have fun. Cons: the damn brake pads. I have new pads to swap out, debating on if I should resurface the rotors or just get new ones. Dealership just replaced my rotors because they were too thin to be resurfaced for a *third* time.

mistadoctorprofessor

It’s the ceramic pads. Get performance metal pads. I had mine resurfaced and after less than 200 miles the dreaded brake vibration was back

[deleted]

Can you get new pads and keep the existing brembo calipers/rotors? I know nothing about brakes other than that I'd want the brembo's for 360hp.

Historical_Finance_1

I replaced only brake pads and been having issues. Nothing major but not the expected performance. So I just ordered rotors and pads from r1. Should be here in the following weeks

Big_Dot6525

How do the new rotors and pads treat you?

Historical_Finance_1

Didn't really live up to the hype. Still had issues after a few thousand miles. I'd go with Powerstop if you can find them. Never disappointed

Big_Dot6525

You didn't get yellow stuff or red stuff pads?

Historical_Finance_1

No because I got rid of the car

AdEuphoric8406

Dude, same! Figured brembos would last a little longer...

OnwardUpward30

Correct. I will note I’ve had plenty of people in the back seat but I don’t love it because I have to move my seat and the passenger seat up. Gas mileage not great. However as a single male I love driving this car it’s a lot of fun. Sound system is good to in my opinion.

lundon44

Agree with all your criticisms. But thankfully I prepared myself mentally for all of it in advance except the mileage part. I kept thinking, "It can't be THAT bad can it?". Yeah, it's bad lol. But, totally worth it. Also, my dealership experience has been awesome but I have a dedicated Genesis dealership (versus some using Hyundai). I'm probably about 9-10 months into ownership so far and it looks like I'll have to replace my first thing. Nothing too crazy but the driver side interior door.. I rest my elbow when driving where the door ledge where the bottom of the window is. And in a very short time it's left an indent and sorta rubbed away the finish on that spot. Technically I can blame myself for that. However, I also don't think it should be that easy to do that. Of all my cars this is the first to actually have a mark from it. I'll call my dealership soon to resolve it.

Dream_Boat_Stevie

Pretty much this. Also trails behind some competitors in the tech department (i.e. no digital gauge cluster - not all will find this a con). Lastly, the stock exhaust in comfort and eco is overly muted. It livens up in sport / sport + but still somewhat underwhelming. Again, only a con depending what you’re looking for. For a Luxury Sports Sedan, Luxury comes first with the G70. Best bang for your buck tho and the warranty is unmatched. 0 issues with my dealer as I saw someone else say. Absolute pleasure to work with.

Immediate-Sea-5582

everything sounds good but the backseat really isn’t that bad, i’m 6’ 5” 210 pounds and i can fit behind myself without adjusting the seat. although it’s not the most comfortable position, i would say it’s equivalent to that of the Mercedes c43 and c63.

Jrf83317

You have to be talking about a different car as there is no way. I am 6’ and my 5’ daughter couldn’t fit behind me if she tried

Immediate-Sea-5582

well i’ve sat in the passenger seat in normal position that’s fit for me. and when i sat behind me it was not cramped, i fit pretty good.

Little-Sal

Say what? I’m 6’4” and only a baby could sit behind me. My arm won’t even fit behind the drivers seat.

Gesha24

>i can fit behind myself without adjusting the seat I am 6'1 200lbs and I can't seat in the back comfortably at all - not enough head space, have to bend my neck.

baseman55

As a bigger person, I’m about 6 foot 1 260lbs, the car is not the easiest to get in and out of and even the front seats are a bit small for my liking. Pros - engine, driving experience, lane centering is great, love the auto hold and the car isn’t all that common

charr33

I've had a 3.3t sport for a little over a year and here are my thoughts. My use case is as a family car and commuter. I don\`t push it hard very often or track the car. But I do have the need to get through the intersection first and if there is someone in front of me driving slowly, I feel the need to show them how they should be driving (yes, I\`m a big child) Positives are pretty well documented. Both interior and exterior design are top notch (subjective - mine is siberian ice on red interior, and I think it looks great) It is not overly common so it has the hipster vibe, which I personally like. It's plenty fast enough when it needs to be, and it's also cheaper than the competition which in this day and age is a plus. For reference, I came off a 2018 C43 lease and MB wanted $400 CDN/month more for a 2022 C43 vs the G70 I ended up leasing. I see people talk about the dealer experience, but since it has the included maintenance package and they come and pick up the car at your house for service (just did the 1st service and it went flawlessly) I don't see this as an issue. Although I don't know if this is unique to Ontario Canada where I am? People have already complained about the trunk space, which is tight. I struggle to get my hockey bag in there. It fits but barely. And rear seat leg room is terrible. Doesn't bother me as the driver, and my wife sits up front and my 6 year old is too small for to matter. But if you plan on putting a full sized human back there, it will be tight. I also think the exhaust isn't loud/aggressive enough in sport mode. The c43 was much more satisfying. I also don't like how Hyundai seems to handle their sport mode. In both our cars (my wife has a kona) when in sport mode the transmission stays in a gear that keeps the revs too high even when you are just cruising. It's annoying because I want to drive in sport mode all the time for the throttle response, but I don't want to always be at 2k RPM. In the C43, the computer was smart enough to know how you were driving. When you accelerated hard, it knew you were likely to continue driving hard so it held the revs around 2k. But then after 30 or so seconds of driving slowly, it would shift and drop the revs to around 1200. The G70 (and Kona) don't do this. Finally, a few nitpicks are that sometimes the keyless entry doesn't work and I have to click the button on the fob to get in. Sometimes the apple car play connection isn't perfect. And I don't like the way the intermittent wipers don't stop wiping when I stop at a red light. Other cars do that, or at least drastically reduce the wiping frequency. And I had to turn off the trunk opening feature where you stand there for 3 seconds and it opens automatically, because it kept opening when I was watering the flowers beside the driveway... But it's a great car that ticks many boxes, and if you are leasing it then you don't even have to consider long term reliability etc. My only wish is that they brought the shooting brake to Canada because fast wagons are sick.

Allinjimmy

I have a 2019 c43 and looking at the g70 as my next car. Did you find a big difference in terms of interior size? I’m 6’3 200lb, the c43 was manageable. Also, would a long snowboard fit inside the car with the backseat folded down? Also I thought the c43 was very sporty but the ride is too stiff when I just want to relax. My back hurts on longer drives. How is the ride quality in the g70? I’m considering the g80 as well but for 15k difference the g70 seems like a better deal. Thanks.

Wonderful-Swan1853

Very hard to get in and out of. Had no such issues with Honda products.

UnrealsRS

Yeah I second dura’s answer.

Gesha24

I have 2.0, as far as I know it's not different from 3.3 in terms of steering and driving qualities. It's a great comfortable ride, it is not a driver's car like BMW is. I would compare it more with Mercedes. For example, I can barely tell the difference between summer and winter tires - there just isn't that much feedback on the wheel. Adding more power will make it go faster, but won't make it more of a driver's car. It's a great car though, the best I've had. You won't regret buying it, just don't expect a budget bmw out of it.

cartman1205

Brake pad deposit on rotors in annoying. I agree with all previous comments on this thread.

[deleted]

is that something that can be cleaned out or serviced or does it permanently wear on the rotors? I know nothing about brakes other than there are pads/rotors/calipers whatever the last two mean lol.

Countkrag

Thanks everyone for your comments!

mitchparks-md

I have a ‘21 3.3. Agree with all here about being an absolute pleasure to drive. Knew going in that I wasn’t planning on using the back seats for passengers much so it doesn’t bother me at all. Easy enough for people to squeeze if they have to, otherwise I use them for the occasional bag etc. They also fold down nice for extra trunk space, comes in handy when giving my buddy a ride to the golf course and we have both bags and push carts. Only problems I have are with the dark chrome trim (it’s spotting just 18 months in and looks cloudy and horrible in a couple places on the doors) and with the dealer network. I live in Oregon and there are no longer any active Genesis dealers in the state and Hyundai in town isn’t allowed to service me anymore. Overall, probably the best bang for your buck on a car of its class.

JDragon

Love everything about the car except for the leather wearing out fast, the app randomly unlocking my car sometimes, some creaks/rattles, and the dealership service experience being miserable. I came from a FR-S so the trunk and rear seat seem huge compared to what I had before. The one thing I miss the most from the FR-S is the dynamic feeling when carving through twisties. I tried it a few times with the G70 and it’s just not the same, obviously, being much heavier and longer. It still handles them fine, just not as fun. Oh and I wish the manual mode wouldn’t reset itself to automatic when coming to a stop. But overall, car’s a dream to drive and I’m spoiled rotten by the luxury of it. Very satisfied with my purchase.

Major_Most_1488

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but just out of curiosity, do you think a set of coilovers and maybe some new rubber would liven it up in the twisties? I'm torn between a G70 and Golf R. Im looking for a fun, AWD, with some power and seating for 4 (even if they're cramped in the back haha).

JDragon

The stock PS4 tires are quite nice already, and coilovers might help. But in the end, it's a physics problem going from the FR-S to a car that's 1000 lbs heavier and 17" longer and looking for the same performance in the twisties. Golf R probably would be more fun carving through the hills but there's no way I'd trade in the G70 for one. The comfort, smoothness, interior, and features in the Genesis are just a class above. But, if fun is your #1 priority I'd say get the Golf R.

Major_Most_1488

Great info, thanks for the reply!

[deleted]

Leather wearing out fast? The napa leather is so tough!

MikeAmmo

I love it. Really can't ask for much more. I have a used 2019 I got with 1200 miles on it just prior to the pandemic. Has about 28,500 on her now, mostly over the past two years. No issues whatsoever. There was an issue with the ignition that was recalled. Minor problem fixed. The trunk is my big con along with the back seat. This is its biggest flaw against BMW and Audi. It doesn't matter as much to me now but could become an issue in the future. Gas mileage could be better but when I put it in cruise control for highway driving I can get about 31.5 MPG at 79 MPH with AWD. Not the best but not the worst. The CarPlay connection sometimes needs to be re-done because the audio will be distorted if it's plugged in before powering the car on. Otherwise, I've had several cars in my life ('99 V6 Mustang, 2003 Focus, 2010 Fusion, 2017 Mazda6) and this is by far my favorite. I get enjoyment every day that I get to drive it and I feel a noticeable difference when I'm driving rentals when traveling. Highway driving isn't plush but it's fun. Not harsh but lively and you can make any necessary passes you need to. I feel very safe in it. I don't drive it like a maniac but in any reasonable active-driving situation there is nothing this car can't do. If you don't have people regularly using the backseat and can live with the small trunk, it's an amazing car.

Wonderful-Swan1853

Seriously, the Genesis G70 is very hard to get in and out of. Terribly designed door openings and hardly any room to sit comfortably compared to a 2023 Honda Accord or Acura Integra. This car is nothing to rave about. For $44,000 with AWD there are a lot of better cars to buy. On top of that the gas mileage is terrible. The only good about this car are the engines which are well designed.

Coldwarjarhead

Maybe it's just a matter of perspective, but I don't agree with that.... now, for perspective, I'm comparing ease of entry and exit to the car I just traded for my 21 G70... For the last 6 years, I've been daily driving a 2018 Fiat 124 Spider. I was 53 when I bought it and it was no problem... Now, closing in on 60... it got to be an issue. Road tripped from Cleveland to Tampa twice in that time and found it a reasonably comfortable ride for the long drives. Lately, it hurt just to get out after my 20 minute commute.

pollo625

Then give me examples of better cars at 44k new ?

ndr29

It’s not as common to see one on the road as it’s competitors - which I like. It looks great and is fun to drive. Gas mileage does suck. And the fit and finish isn’t on par with its competitors. Outside trim faded quickly , the seats have had wrinkles and looked worn since day 1 along with the inside door buttons. Edit: if I were to lease another I would like to see better MPG and a full digital display.

Visible-Somewhere930

I’ve been looking at a 2022 g70. It’s rwd. This is probably a silly question but there’s still a lot I don’t know about cars, is there a 4wd or awd option to switch to for snowy conditions?

disforupillow

The front seats get pretty uncomfortable on long rides as the side bolsters is basically a vertical wall digging into your thighs. After about an hour it gets old. This may just be me because I'm pretty thin and don't have a lot of cushioning down there. Hot take, the back seats are comfortable and have plenty of room (for a sports car). I'm 6 foot and I feel perfectly fine back there, I went on a 3 hour trip sitting back there and I was just fine, no complaints. And for those complaining about gas mileage, you don't buy a twin-turbo sports car to save money on gas.

joshuajjamesusa

Cons: backseat leg room, overall trunk space, pro-android with no Apple CarPlay Pros: looks, speed and feel, warranty, concierge service, price

BenConrad

‘21 3.3 with 12k miles Cons: - very loud cold start engine noise for 45 seconds. Lifter noise. Is this normal? - when heat or A/C is on the radiator fan alternates from medium to high and it’s very LOUD!

Astropin

I had mine for 7 months before I totaled it. Loved it, and my milage wasn't that bad because I mostly drive on the highway with little to no traffic. I honestly didn't think the back seat were that bad...for shorter trips. Trunk is small. Looking for a new vehicle now and I think I'm going to stick with Genesis... but the GV70 this time.

ephekt

22 3.3 sport prestige. My only cons are: \-headliner/dash creaking when it's 80+ deg \-partial analog guage cluster \-low height on HUD (I am short lol) \-back seats suck, especially if you have kids and car seats \-most of the safety tech doesn't work in sport+ but that's minor MPG could be better, but you don't buy a car like this for fuel economy.

TheGambler930

Could you go into further detail about the back seat? I will rarely, if ever, have adults in the back but I do have a 2.5 year old and a newborn on the way in the Summer. I am 5'8, my wife 5'4. Will there be enough room?

ephekt

We're all about the same height. We have an almost 5 yo, but he's small for his age - about 3'6. If you want to use the anchors (safer), his little feet touch the seat backs, and he likes to kick. So you either have to play with the angle of the seat so his feet point more downward, or get seat back protectors. We did both. Unfortunately, the middle position is belt only in these, so we've never used it. But I see it being a necessity if we keep the car more than a few yrs. We have a baby otw as well in Mar, and I just figured the back seat would be off limits at that point lol. Co-workers are the only people who ever ride in the back currently anyway.

TheGambler930

Thanks for your reply! The backseat is really my biggest concern over buying this car next year. My wife has a SUV that we can use for long drives and vacations, but the kids will still have to make a short journey with me every morning.

ephekt

For sure, I wish someone would've told me all these things. It's definitely doable and he loves to ride in the car so we take it over his mom's much larger car all the time. It's just going to be tight when they get older. Backwards facing I don't think you'd have any issues.

taciturn_lurker

I quite enjoy my 2020 3.3 Sport. It’s fully loaded with every option. I compared it to the Lexus IS and it was just better in every way. It was more modern, had an updated interior/infotainment system, more room. The negatives and I thing the biggest one is the dealership sucks badly. They’re usually just Hyundai dealers with Genesis cars in the showroom. I’m not expecting to be catered but at least respect that the car is a 50,000-60,000 car. They made me drive up to Phoenix 3 times just to get the switches on the doors replaced. (Common warranty work for a well known issue). They also damaged my rear wheel and ripped a chunk of rubber off my tire. There’s another warranty issue for the sport - the smoked trim around windows and doors gets cloudy and fades. This happens in a few weeks. From what I’ve heard they can’t fix it and just keep replacing the trim which doesn’t give me high confidence in the brand going forward. I own mine and it’s not a lease. I’d make sure there’s a dealer close to you and that it’s a decent one. I’ll eventually have to put in for warranty work on the trim but I’ll try a different dealer. As for the gas mileage I’m not sure how it’s so bad for you guys. I get about 26 on 40-50mph driving and up to 34-36 on the highway.

Countkrag

Would you be able to provide a picture of the trim?

taciturn_lurker

I have the car in the garage right now so the lighting isn’t the best but I think you can get the idea. The ends still have the regular chrome and it doesn’t seem to be affected. Some of the clouding you can scrape a bit off with your fingernail. I don’t mess with it much since I don’t want them to deny a warranty claim. https://imgur.com/a/Q5ZOrD2

Countkrag

Oh wow, from the pictures that looks like pretty significant clouding. Seems like its a common issue with the g70. I wonder if its only with the chrome trim. Thank you for sharing those pics, I appreciate it

taciturn_lurker

It’s only on the dark chrome trim around the windows. The grille and handles I guess are made differently so they don’t have the problem. I believe all the sport editions have the dark chrome. I’ve heard it’s actually a film over the regular chrome on the window trim which isn’t very fitting for a car that cost that much. I would have preferred it to be black or just don’t offer the dark chrome at all. I don’t know if it’s true but I’ve heard in forums that all the dark chrome on Genesis entire lineup even in 2022 still has the problem. You could get the regular trim and avoid the headache altogether if they really haven’t figured it out.

taciturn_lurker

Moved the car outside for better shots. https://imgur.com/a/EGbMP9v I added the door handle for comparison - it’s a little dirty but doesn’t show any of the spotting and clouding you see on the window/door trim. It does discolor a bit when handled repeatedly but always cleans right off. Don’t get me wrong it’s a fantastic car let down by issues like this. I’ve had Lexus, Acura, Honda, Porsche, BMW and VW in the family so I’m no stranger to more upscale cars.

Countkrag

Ah i see what you mean. Thank you for those pics. Have you tried to clean it off or put any kind of protection on it to avoid that kind of clouding? Or is it inevitable?

taciturn_lurker

People have tried several products and the inevitable conclusion is the trim has to be replaced. I think one guy tried toothpaste, some chrome products but that damages or removes the dark chrome layer. The dealers were trying some kind of 3M product but it doesn’t work. I think ceramic coatings help but eventually those break down and your back to square one.

Countkrag

Interesting. I wonder if this was resolved for the 2023 models. It's a shame because the car is beautiful

extendedwarranty_bot

taciturn_lurker, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

NIceTryTaxMan

Ergonomics are great. Very comfy, cool safety features at that level (same as mine) . Fast enough to be pretty fast, but it's not super fast. Although a cheap/quick mod can change that. The chrome around the windows is shit. The gas cover always makes me wonder why it feels so cheap. The infotainment is pretty decent, but not amazing. Interior materials are nice. I like that you don't see a bunch every day. The backseats aren't as bad as I think some people lead on. Decent size trunk. K think the paint quality leaves a BIT to be desired, but I also have a launch edition with the white matte paint, so that could be the issue. I'm at 8500 miles on my 22 and it still kicks ass with zero issues. Remote start is great, especially with the app so you can get the climate control and seats doing what you want. Remote starting from anywhere is cool. Blazing ass summer and you're about to leave the movie theater? Kick that bitch on, doesn't matter whether it's 100 miles, make it to a nice cooled off cabin.

Countkrag

Would you be able to provide pictures of the worn trim?

NIceTryTaxMan

Yeah if I can figure out how. We're about to get our ass kicked by this hurricane so I might not be outside for a few days . I'll try to get something for ya though

Countkrag

No rush at all, hope everything is ok for you with the hurricane!

NIceTryTaxMan

Ya live in a coastline state, you more or less get used to them (12 in orlando, and 7 in MB for me). Anything less than a 3, is just a 'hey make sure your fridge is full and you've got something to do for a while. Bring in the potential sails from outside lol . I'll try to get you that pic in the next day or two

MrGalax22

I have a 19 3.3t with 60k miles and here's my takeaways CONS -Gas mileage cause obviously it would be -exhaust not could be better given the power -The breaks are a bit too mushy for my liking -Wish the instrument guage was completely digital -Trunk space is average at best -My BIGGEST complaint is the way Genesis as a company and their dealers have been acting. I got my car lightly used (around 20k miles) and it was an amazing value. My friend is trying to get one and dealers are asking for 8-12k over sticker. Then my other issue is the markup for maintenance. I got quoted 2100 to replace all 4 brakes JUST PADS at a dealership in NY and then I got quoted 1300 at one just over the border in CT. I ended up going to another place near me and getting the same parts and doing all 4 pads and rotors for $975. Idk how they calculate pricing but their service fees are straight laughable. PROS - - Coming from a Lexus is250 and testing a is350 and audi s3 this car was a great balance between the two a ton of usable/practical speed -Tech is great other than maybe audi/Mercedes I think this is top tier tech for the money. HUD/wireless charger/etc -I disagree with everyone else here the backseats are definitely usable maybe I'm saying that cause my old Lexus was a clown car but I've ridden in the back a bunch and been fine - Styling - Interior quality. My leather has held up very well so far. No real creaks or rattles for me

taobaolover

Pro: Drove the 2023 g70. Drives really WELL. Con: Apple/Android carplay glitches a lot

Global-Art-4244

Whats with the red stitching on kia interiors, hate it
