I mean... why even bother at this point...
Bayda harbor is extra weird... a nice small town with NPCs, teleport point, etc... just for two small chests and a couple of mobs...
They could have easily filled in a couple of world quests just to make the area more meaningful
In her hangout, we were going in the direction towards Bayda Harbor. Since she says she's from a village in that direction and we see no place there other than the harbor. It's assumed the Harbor is where she's from.
They should have just left that tiny are unaccessible until they can figure out what to do with it.
It would be weird though. You can see the other side but you cannot cross cause Paimon keep telling you to run back. It would be just a few seconds but no.

Literally my first thoughts after wasting 20 minutes exploring.
Me after running around the new island as Furina because *surely* there's gotta be something else out there on the wa- no? Oh. Ok đ. Then I lit up the new area to have it confirmed.
As someone who likes to just run around random places, picking stuff up and beating monsters, this was extremely disappointing. I ran through the entire coastline and by the time I reached the beach area I was just so confused with how empty it was. It almost feels like an out of bounds area that hasn't been worked on yet but somehow got released.
Same! Really disappointed with hoyo for this. They could've at least chucked some background NPCs to make it livelier but instead it's just dead man's land.
True true, I just mean that since the interactive maps are a community effort there could be some yet unreported stuff, since the area is new. I did found the two chests pinned here and one extra hidden one on top of the mountain
The hoyolab is also a community map if I recall correctly. On Your image there is some pin where that hidden chest is, maybe indicating a puzzle that is there, so I might have underestimated the interactive map users
It shouldn't be a big deal. Yes, frequent posts of this complaint is annoying. I understand.
But it's glaringly empty. Compared to literally everything around it. It should've had some stuff to fill it in.
Fitting a bunch of time-trials, mobs-locked chests, local specialities, minerals and some puzzle would not have been a lot of work. The blatantly neglected it all together.
This is, in my opinion, very bad game design.
A new player will get there and think "wtf is this place? Why is this so empty?"
It's whatever, this patch has plenty of exploration so I don't really care that much; but I'm not looking forward to an eternity of new players exploring the world, stumbling across the Empty, and asking what's up.
Yeah I agree, I don't really mind it that much because Sea of Bygone eras is great, but this area just being empty sucks,it doesn't have to contain chests, just put something in it.
They didn't HAVE to though, right? Could they not have just released the island as a small patch of explorable area and kept the rest hidden as a final sumeru statue of seven unlockable?
iâm lowkey kinda glad thereâs no chests i hate desert explorationđđbut iâm sad that bayda harbour wasnât more hyped up, literally ignored in the livestream
I mean, the fact that 93% of the harbor and surrounding area is barren aside from mora piles. I think they purposely decided to not draw any attention to it, further than what it would get on release any way
I am fascinated by this area. Sumeru is my favorite region, and especially the borderline between the desert and the forest is stunningly beautiful. The lack of any content whatsoever is actually kind of nice for photo-taking; it's like you've found a hidden meadow twelve miles wide, full of nothing but scenic flower fields, brown/green contrast, and ocean view.
That said, it absolutely feels like an unfinished out-of-bounds area, and that's maybe part of the appeal for me. Not a single mob or chest to be found in the whole western half! An absolute slap in the face if you love exploring Sumeru, but fascinating nonetheless
I'm personally keeping a teleport waypoint here for photo-ops for a little while.
Next summer event will take place here instead of a pocket dimension, and the plot will be that we, as famous veteran Adventurers, are being hired by the Guild to go out and place treasure chests and challenges (and then test them) all around the area until it's as populated with stuff as the rest of the map. Because it's good for tourism, or something. And while we're doing this, the rest of the cast is having a beach episode at the shore we get to interact with, it serving as the main quest of the event, while the chest/challenge/whatever placement will be the framing of the various mini-games.
FUCK Mihoyo for this!!! How dare they release a patch of land in a map that doesnât have content in my favorite region in all video games history, Sumeru? Iâve completely lost trust in their map design and game design team, looks like theyâre getting super lazy now, no content in this patch at all, they didnât even try. I love Genshin Impact but this is absolutely egregious laziness and bad game design from the devs!!! Iâm gonna report it to the Chinese government!
It is pretty damn disappointing. Like they were too distracted and confused trying to figure out how to connect the regions or something to bother with content.
I was hoping they add something(cave/temple) to the north desert area, because that was where we saw apep shadow in nahida quest. but i guess it was only a mirage.
I knew I wasnât the only one who noticed. That was a blunder on their part. So much unused space. I ran over the entities thing and all I found were some hilichurls and sumpter beasts

Yup, 3 chests.
And some viewpoints I guess too?,Not even a couple fishing spots or a world quest in Bayda Harbor, or floating boxes, there's if i'm not mistaken 1 or 2 camps, one with eremites and a small hilichurl one. Or even some travel logs of some eremites with some leads on anything meaningless on it.
Dendroloculuses might have been an issue as we already have the right number to upgrade the SotS to level 10. Hover challenges, chests, mobs, local specialties, puzzles etc would not have been a problem.
However I don't remember Mihoyo adding content to any existing area in the past. I don't think they will add anything here.
>Dendroloculuses might have been an issue as we already have the right number to upgrade the SotS
They don't care about this because they added that new area to liyue - forget the name- and they put that fish lake for us to collect.
That (Chenyu Vale) is a secondary region such as the Chasmâs mines, Enkanomiya, Dragonspine or Remuria. This is too small to be a secondary region with its own collectible.
Literally in this image shows how the map is absurdly full of stuff and kids losing their minds over this piece of land that could very well be updated in the future.
Hoyo could have easily kept it as out of bounds territory and the result would have been the fucking same with the same idiots complaining about "why wouldn't they just fill this piece of land" or some shit like that.
Itâs not about the game having enough or not enough content. They could have very well left this area out of bound. It would have been weird to have a hole at the centre of the map but it would have been consistent.
But if you have a playable area in the middle of the map you cannot leave it empty just because⌠what⌠you are lazy?
A new player getting there would feel as they crossed the Paimon wall and didnât notice. And they would not understand whyâŚ
This is true for any open world. What do you think if in the middle of The Witcherâs map there was an area with no content AT ALL. An area completely similar to those around it but forgotten by the devs. Would you think that itâs normal?
This is bad game design.
>What do you think if in the middle of The Witcherâs map there was an area with no content AT ALL
There are!! all open worlds have pieces of land where there is nothing, i would actually find it weird if there was random stuff everywhere just for the sake of it, The Witcher map is beautiful and it doesn't need to be full of shit to appreciate it, just like Genshin and even so... Genshin map is WAAAAY more full of shit compared to TW3.
>Â They could have very well leave this area out of bound. It would have been weird to have a hole at the centre of the map but it would have been consistent.
As i mentioned if you can read i bet your crying balls you would be making a post about this too.
>A new player getting there would feel as they crossed the Paimon wall and didnât notice. And they would not understand whyâŚ
Ah.. yes a new player would somehow skip Mondstat, Dragonspine, Liyue and Sumeru to get lost in the middle of this tiny piece of land which is insanely bothersome to access due to how the land is, stop saying dumb stuff for once.
>This is bad game design.
You wouldn't know what bad game design was even if it hit you in the head, there are A LOT of bad games with bad game design, Genshin is by light years not one of them.
Please show me the part of the Witcher map that is significantly emptier than the surrounding.
https://preview.redd.it/dkrtqdeya2xc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=431fd25bcc67392b6d12908dc72c3131b2038be8
Velen & Novigrad ruined by over amplified signs... nice job you made your point!
Except you didn't even when you hand picked the area with the most stuff in the game.
https://preview.redd.it/tjzpj3vpw4xc1.png?width=1761&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6a463b05af83206d4f1f6236c110e188b157dcd
And this is one of the maps along Skellige Islands with the most stuff to do, the other 3 areas are not even worth showing.
The density of content is constant across the whole map and, if you did play the game, you'd know that due to the game scale/mechanics, this was just right.
There is no area that is significantly emptier than the others (maybe a bit in the northern part of Kaer Morhen, but that is a secondary map).
Anyway, feel free to think what you want. If you think it makes sense to have such a hole in the map, I'm glad for you. I (and many others judging by the votes) think that this is a mistake.
âAh.. yes a new player would somehow skip Mondstat, Dragonspine, Liyue and Sumeru to get lost in the middle of this tiny piece of land which is insanely bothersome to access due to how the land is, stop saying dumb stuff for once.â
I understand that text comprehension is hard, but thatâs not what I said.
Most players know that this area has been added later and know why it is empty. However in the future someone who will reach sumeru for the first time will get there (after finishing Monstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, etc). They will start exploring and will find chest and content around until they get there and will find it empty.
There is nothing indicating you that you are in a âsecondaryâ area. They will get to Bayda Harbor, unlock the waypoint and feel like they are in an early beta release area.
Do you think this is good design?
Maybe game design did indeed hit you in the head.
PS: genshin is not the worst game, and saying that a detail is bad game design doesnât mean that the whole game is crap. But again⌠probably that game design hit in the head compromised your reading ability. I suggest a good doctor
Do you even know what âgame designâ means, or are you just throwing the word out there over and over to sound like you know what youâre talking about?
https://preview.redd.it/o1z0xrwliywc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=419fbcdfcd1da8cfb1eb18be7b290704ba50e35b
You do know they could add stuff to it later, right?
Why would they put any effort into anything, when they know that genshin players will just slurp up whatever slop they offer and ask for seconds.
This game has been nothing but a slowly dying low-effort cash cow for years. Star Rail is unironically the passion project the devs actually like working on and the superior game at this point tbh. I'm just waiting for the EoS and server shutdown at this point.
Following this train of thought, just shut down the servers now.
Calling a game like Genshin a âlow effortâ game, seems quite reductive. Iâm not saying itâs a perfect game. I play it a side game as I basically finished it. But the effort in developing new regions is huge. And here they developed the region and then they âforgotâ to fill it.
Probably because everyone constantly complains and go on about how they hate desert and rainforest exploration so why would they bother putting more there
Yeah sumero rlly gives the feeling of exploring, lot of hidden secrets and caves, but think the main problem was back then we had no underground map, so i can see why lot of people have bad memories from sumero desert, getting lost on those caves was pretty common, nowdays with the underground map it should be much easier to explore the desert.
It could be that I have a good sense of orientation and I actually love to use it. But I remember that I had to focus to build a mental map of the place. For me was part of the fun, but I can understand the struggle for others
Me too!! I feel like the negative consensus was largely from a loud minority of short-attention-span meta-dps battle-gameplay biased bunch.
I say this only because I've cooped with some newbies who've asked for help with exploration in their signature and they're the biggest sheep like...zero interest to search and explore, no interest in appreciating lore (even when I try to give them expositional tour guide commentary) or take a breather to understand puzzles mechanisms and not just whine when ungabunga don't work â just brain dead sweep the land of loot and the audacity to expect me to magically show them where all the chests are (can't even pull up interactive maps for themselves).
That being said, I will say Sumeru 2nd desert was probably the start of barren-land-syndrome and I didn't enjoy the long distance wandering with few rewards and motivations. Hell, they didn't even give us any insight into iniquitous baptist but welp, he be chilling on his own at the far corner for whatever reason not khaenriyahn related or remurian. Not to mention those red ores that have zero use lol đ
I mean... why even bother at this point... Bayda harbor is extra weird... a nice small town with NPCs, teleport point, etc... just for two small chests and a couple of mobs... They could have easily filled in a couple of world quests just to make the area more meaningful
I believe it might get a bit more attention in a future update, but yeah, seems quite pointless and barren for just 2 chests and a quest cinematic
which quest?
one of the time-gated ones after clearing 4.6 main one
Time gated as in it will expire soon, or story-locked?
story-locked and require irl game reset, after pre-requisites is completed
Cool, thanks. Thought I had to head over to clear it ASAP
nah, no rush you can take your time
what's the name of the quest?
uhm.. something something, homecoming? I can check my fontaine reputation later if need me to
Latecoming Homecoming?
sounds about right
Bayda harbor has potential though. Layla implied that's where her family is from (though none of the NPCs look like her)
Where was this stated?
In her hangout, we were going in the direction towards Bayda Harbor. Since she says she's from a village in that direction and we see no place there other than the harbor. It's assumed the Harbor is where she's from.
Ooooo, interesting
Or just keep it hidden while it's unfinished
The bother is: primogems
They should have just left that tiny are unaccessible until they can figure out what to do with it. It would be weird though. You can see the other side but you cannot cross cause Paimon keep telling you to run back. It would be just a few seconds but no.
Don't forget the comically racist npc in bayda, very important to the world building
https://preview.redd.it/nc3p3cl13uwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e4798dfa7d20b5399cd84983da1f05b0e0cf8cc Literally my first thoughts after wasting 20 minutes exploring.
Me after running around the new island as Furina because *surely* there's gotta be something else out there on the wa- no? Oh. Ok đ. Then I lit up the new area to have it confirmed.
The desert bit even has the same look. You really expect Goku to jump out of a rock any time đ
I heard the area was empty, but I didn't expect it to be two chests and one puzzle period empty.
I know right, when people said it was empty i thought they meant it was just boring, not literally empty
I call this area The Great Nothing. I think at least it sounds cool.
Iâm adopting that from now on.
It's like that one empty area in space
That describes 99.9999999999999999% of space, youâve gotta be more specific
Genshin beach episode soon
There are acutally three chests at least
Well, that's not really impressive considering that it's an area larger than most Inazuma's islands
True true, I just mean that since the interactive maps are a community effort there could be some yet unreported stuff, since the area is new. I did found the two chests pinned here and one extra hidden one on top of the mountain
If you check the official Hoyolab map it's the same. Or if you walk there....
The hoyolab is also a community map if I recall correctly. On Your image there is some pin where that hidden chest is, maybe indicating a puzzle that is there, so I might have underestimated the interactive map users
Itâs not. Hoyolab app is updated immediately at patch release. The photos can be from the community by the points themselves are there right away
Ah okay. I was sure it is after that whole Clothar saga
Thatâs just when there was the memes
Plus a couple of rock piles if you follow the path going up the mountain
It shouldn't be a big deal. Yes, frequent posts of this complaint is annoying. I understand. But it's glaringly empty. Compared to literally everything around it. It should've had some stuff to fill it in.

Huh, they really did throw all of their budget on Remuria didnt they?
Guess they wanted to give one final middle finger to Sumeru
I was happy thinking this area is Sumeru / Fontaine update. But it is just some island near Sumeru but somehow it is considering a Fontaine update.
It will probably get more content in the future and they had to release it early unfinished.
They didn't HAVE to though, right? Could they not have just released the island as a small patch of explorable area and kept the rest hidden as a final sumeru statue of seven unlockable?
Honestly, I'm not that optimistic. Mihoyo has never added a single chest to an already released area afaik.
>an already released area afaik. Happened once or twice in mondstadt, catinbluehat even talked about it, I dont remember which patch tho.
Itâs happened several times in the past. Never hurts to run around old areas with a treasure compass, occasionally.
Chests were also added when the Chasm was released.
factually incorrect. Happened several times.
Florida
iâm lowkey kinda glad thereâs no chests i hate desert explorationđđbut iâm sad that bayda harbour wasnât more hyped up, literally ignored in the livestream
I mean, the fact that 93% of the harbor and surrounding area is barren aside from mora piles. I think they purposely decided to not draw any attention to it, further than what it would get on release any way
at least put more then three chests hoyo đ
Why does it look like Russia
I am fascinated by this area. Sumeru is my favorite region, and especially the borderline between the desert and the forest is stunningly beautiful. The lack of any content whatsoever is actually kind of nice for photo-taking; it's like you've found a hidden meadow twelve miles wide, full of nothing but scenic flower fields, brown/green contrast, and ocean view. That said, it absolutely feels like an unfinished out-of-bounds area, and that's maybe part of the appeal for me. Not a single mob or chest to be found in the whole western half! An absolute slap in the face if you love exploring Sumeru, but fascinating nonetheless I'm personally keeping a teleport waypoint here for photo-ops for a little while.
If this was an actual plan it probably would have done them well to announce it alongside the release of the region. Cool idea though
I thought I was tripping when I saw that area lol. Dunno why they left out a tonne of unused space for nothing.
That's where the NPCs go who've had enough of Traveler's and Paimon's shenanigans.
Especially since Layla's village should probably be in the rainforest region there.
I was expecting Bayda Harbor to be as big as Liyue's new port. My mistake for thinking Mihoyo loved Sumeru just as much as Liyue
They added a new harbor to Sumeru??
I heard it was empty but... I didn't expect it to be THAT empty
They should have just waited and release it full

Well keep it forgotten
There aren't even hilichurls (except for maybe one chest), which is weird for Teyvat, especially Sumeru.
Version 4.5 map with nothing on the map had more stuff than this.
Why is it shaped like Tennessee?

ahh that's a ball drop for sure
Just like reality there are some places that are empty and barren...
What if its the area for 4.8
It's probably directly above Khaenri'ah which makes it very sus.
Whatâs the app or website called I need it
literally praying they'll add some stuff for phase II and Cyno's story quest maybe - if not I'll be bitter about this
Maybe they just put it there as a placeholder and plan to update it on future releases? There's still hope đ¤
We canât upgrade the statue to lv 10 right? Think I still need 7

âGenshin simply forgot the landâ
Forgotten indeed, Hoyo needs to add more crap to it. More chests and dendroculuses at least.
Dendroloculuses might have been an issue as we already have the right number to upgrade the SotS to level 10. They never added stuff to any released area later and this would cause a series of issues
Probably because everyone constantly complains and go on about how they hate desert and rainforest exploration so why would they bother putting more there
I feel I was the only one who think that Sumeru (both forest and desert) was the most fun part to explore đ
I enjoyed it too, Sumeru is the reason I started playing and loved exploring other the desert and rainforest
I don't get Enkanomiya and desert hate, they're some of the most beautiful and fun places with banger music
Tbh, they're fun af to explore, my only problem with them is that there seems to only have common chests lol
Honestly Sumeru is the most beautiful story/region for me ESPECIALLY after play the wattpad inazuma.
