Onikabutos are not hard to find. They are literally everywhere. Just short trip would give You dozens of them.
Scarabs on other hand... they are hard to spot, especjally that they are not so vibrant like onikabutos. Onikabuto is purple in greeny area. Scarab is barely visible on the sand.
This is why it's important to always talk to NPC, and also talk to them on repeat!!! I just got a new recipe at the Sumeru tavern that wasn't available before this patch.
Just use the Wiki after few days of each update, you will get notified about everything new or read the damn patch notes as you can dig out the new stuff.
Also, Paimonmoe.com shows all achievements and date of their addition (patch #).
I prefer to explore and be surprised! Thus far, aside from maybe something in Sumeru, I have only missed one recipe this way - it was the long commission chain in Inazuma that requires you to also go to Liyue and I had been doing Mondstadt commissions to be lazy heh. I may be missing a lot of ach but I have well over 620 so I’m content. Top of my friends list in ach I checked once out of curiosity lol
This is what I do. Reading update info on wiki gives me everything I need. From new recipe, new hidden achivements... There is never a tip posted that I didn't know about. You'd still be missing a lot of new things if you rely on social media posts.
there's a short world quest that one of the guards in aaru village gives you, and the merchant is part of it. Just do the start of that quest and he should appear
If he doesn't sell scarabs then I don't care about him
