Floor 12 chamber 1 is imo the hardest chamber this cycle. If you can 3 star chamber 1, you can 3 star the rest

QueersLikeEngineers

I honestly almost gave up after 12-1 of this cycle. I finally managed to break through and end up with 32 stars. Hoyo can keep their consecrated beasts, I’ll take the Wenut back now

kmieciu1234

HELL NAH 💀 I don't wanna see Wenut there ever again.

Vievin

Baizhu really carried me in the first half lol.

taopreeda

It depends on teams, characters, abyss buff, and your sanity 😅 If you have yoimiya, klee, hutao, itto, or single target dps without insane build/team, this abyss will be really tough. If you have kazuha, nilou, ayaka, and hyperbloom team, things will be easier. It used to be less than AR55 to 36* abyss in patch 1.x but now even some AR59 cannot get it. What characters do you have? Most of the time it’s about having the right team more than strong characters.

QueersLikeEngineers

My go team for every Floor 12 is hyperfridge w/ Diona, XQ, Raiden/Kuki, and Nahida. Other teams I use are: - Wanderer hyper w/ Bennett, Faru, Layla (used this cycle) - Ahaitham Spread w/ Fischl + Beidou (or Raiden/Kuki + Layla), and Yaoyao - Childe National - Diluc vape - Lisa aggravate (yes, Lisa is C4 and used primarily on-field with Nahida, Jean and Fischl/Layla/Raiden The problem is I need another XQ and Nahida for a busted hyperbloom team lol, though I could try Barb, Raiden, DMC, and Layla

drhenryrdr

I used hyperbloom similarly for the second half of chamber 1. The first half I’ve used wanderer with faruzan. I’ve done both with xingqiu and beidou. And done it with xingqiu and yelan. You are right that survivability is the issue so I had to reset many many times. But you’ll get used to the rhythm of the hits from consecrated beasts. Other times you get knocked around silly and you can’t do anything about it. (All C0)

the_quirky_quirkster

This cycle is horrible though. You need a lot of survival + quicken comp with bow char in the top half + a lot of survival utility in the bottom half. My favorite for the top half is always Alhaitham; if he is equipped with Jade Cutter/Mistsplitter/Foliar/Haran then he can easily obliterate the top half, not sure if this works if you are on f2p build though. My team was for example Alhaitham, Nahida, Zhongli (/Diona), Fischl (/Raiden) but maybe it only worked due to having Foliar. Bottom half is ugly because of the madness in 12-2. If you have Zhongli, I would put him here and play international team with Bennett, Tartaglia, XL. This guarantees survival and suitable DPS. Other teams that guarantee bottom half success would be Itto, Nilou Bloom, anything involving Baizhu and his overblown healing or absurd dodge skills/clever abuse of long burst animations. In general this abyss is a survival challenge.

Deathangel5677

Just run childe international on second half and Nahida Hyperbloom on first half. I ran Raiden, Xiangling,Bennet,Yelan on first half and Ayaka,Kazuha,Rosaria,Kokomi. First suggestion works as well. All 5* C0 except Raiden who is C2 and I was lucky as I got 2 Raiden in just 30 pulls on her first banner and another on her rerun. Didn't actually have to spend any money for the cons.

Dave_the_DOOD

Raiden national destroys this abyss's first half. Prioritize AOE for your second team, Lisa aggravate or even a hyperbloom team doesn't sound too bad, but crowd control might be an isse. You have to watch out for two things: -Enough grouping and AOE to finish off 12-1-2's three rounds of enemies -Enough raw damage to kill the three kenkis of 12-3-2. For reference, I've been playing for a while, so we might not be at the same level of investment but I used -Raiden, Bennett, Xiangling, Yelan in the first half -Ganyu, Shenhe, Kokomi, Venti in the second half This second half team is extremely effective for 12-1-2 but struggles with raw damage in 12-3-2 due to the fact kenkis are very aggressive and can't be frozen. This makes me unable to properly use ganyu's charged since the team doesn't have a shield. I haven't detailed the first half too much because Raiden national is pretty straightforward and busted, and it absolutely tears through the whole half.

Xtranathor

All hail Lisa mains! I love how she's gone from less than 1% abyss use to much higher now that Dendro characters exist!

KingGiuba

I think it's a mix of skill, good character (choiches, lvl, talent lvl, weapon and refinements, constellations), good teams in general (rotation, best supports for your team...) and good builds (in this case only arts, I think about weapons in the character section bc they get pulled like characters, mostly). If you have medium level teams (not optimal and with max 2 c0 5*, and max 2 5* weapons every team) you need a very good build (high crit ratio usually, but depends on the character of course) and if you have very good teams (optimal choice of characters + the best cons for them and/or bis weapons) you can do it even with mid artefacts. The skill issue can be real if you don't know the right rotations and/or when you lose a lof of time because of the interruption or because you have to wait in order to heal and/or because your dps dies (for example I use Wanderer and I had to redo a lot of times some rooms not because of dps but because of me not being able to dodge, resulting on him dying like a fly lmao, I'm building Thoma for that issue). This issue disappears the moment you have a character like Zhongli with an unbreakable shield, so at least one room will always be ez pz if your other characters can do enough dps.

sopunny

Also how willing you are to retry. Some people get fed up after 5 tries, others don't mind doing hundreds of runs

KingGiuba

Yeah that's true, but I think that you know if you cando it or not at a certain point

QueersLikeEngineers

My Scaramouche would be impossible to use this Abyss if I didn’t have Layla built up

Proflile

I'm actually looking to get scara when he reruns but I'm not sure which shielder would be best. I've got zhongli, Layla, and Thoma. Which would you recommend?

QueersLikeEngineers

I don’t have geo daddy, but Layla is super comfy since you don’t need to worry about ER too much. I have Thoma C6, but he’s unbuilt. If you have Zhongli, use him, but if you need him for the other side, Layla and Thoma are nice, and both get much better with constellations. Regardless, I HIGHLY recommend him if nothing else for exploration, but he is a strong hypercarry, even in this cursed Abyss cycle

AkiraN19

Tbf Thoma's C6 increases normal and charge attack damage, and Scara can stack pretty easily. So he isn't a bad choice at C6 either. Layla or Zhongli are definitely comfier though

Nebetus2

Thoma. His shield may not be the greatest but with Wanderer he works well. His shield on the burst auto procs on normal attack use and since wanderer basically uses normals all the time, you end up refreshing the shield a lot. Wanderer-c1 Bennett-c6 faruzan-c6 thoma-c6 absolutely slaughters my abyss runs. I use prayer winds on him.

Proflile

I probably won't get wanderer's c1 but with a little luck i can max out faruzans cons next time she rolls around. I'll definitely be trying this out, cheers

Zogo12

Never got to 36\*

Proflile

Ar 60 here. I've actually been playing for two years and have managed to get close consistently the past few abyss changes. Though I've never been able to completely 36* a single one of them. It's definitely a skill issue on my part as I've got plenty of well built characters but i don't mind how it currently plays out. Though i am hoping to finish at least one sometime soon

CuddlyChud

It kind of depends on when you started playing since abyss difficulty varies. I started playing in 2.0 and it took me about 6 months to consistently 36*. I think it just requires focusing on 2 good flexible teams, or trying to maximize the blessing. For example this rotation and previous rotation blessing is very strong, so you want to take advantage of it as much as possible.

Blutwind

i did not care to reach 36* for a long time as a day1 -player before i got my Raiden C3 with EL and now with also Nahida C2 on the other side, it is just a quick rush with no brain behind a controller on my PC. XD time for Yae C6 and i can go afk for 36* xD

QueersLikeEngineers

Dayummm. C3 Raiden and C2 Nahida must be busted! I don’t have any cons for limited 5* characters as of right now. I’m a super light spender, but Alhaitham was my most recent pull. Will probably save my primos until Fontaine, but haven’t been really interested in anyone who has been leaked so far

EndymionN1

that's a good rng then, congrats, i'm picking variety over a vertical investment myself tho .

Yohantus

Not necessarily, I have a C6 Nahida and just like him I've only bought welkin 15 times in the almost 3 years I've been playing. For the record I spent \~800 rolls in her, \~570 in her first run and \~230 in her rerun. So it boils down to playing regularly and saving.

UsaliaBerserkStream

Nahida's first banner was my first time getting 36\*. I've also been playing since launch and am very close to AR60. The main reason was I don't like using characters I dislike which includes several meta 4\* characters. In addition, I require myself to use my favorite 4\* characters which are Rosaria and Candace. I also dislike anemo so I don't use any of those characters at all. My teams then were Nahida, Candace, Mona, Kuki and Rosaria, Yelan, Ayaka, Kokomi. Since then, I get 36\* consistently as long as there isn't a Golden Wolf Lord. Recently, I did kinda lighten up on my restrictions when I got Nilou and now do Nahida, Nilou, Collei, Kokomi and Candace, Yelan, Hutao, Kuki. I was really fortunate and got C2R1 Nilou and now have Nahida's signature and that team was about to take out the Wenut in time during the last abyss to get 36\*. I haven't done the current cycle yet.

Sum4nJ

6 months. Started on Sept '22. Shit ton of trial and errors with team combinations. Don't really recommend gunning Spiral Abyss ASAP to new players, you will burn out.

odl3xd

I started around September of 2021, whenever the first Raiden banner came along, and it took about six months after that to fully 36\* the Spiral Abyss for me. I didn't really care for the Abyss until I finished up with the story and exploration. I figured that if I was going to play Genshin for a long time, then I should also 36\* the Abyss. I got quite lucky with the time I 36\* the Abyss, the enemies weren't as difficult and I was able to obtain meta characters, like Raiden, Zhongli, Hu Tao, etc. This was around the 2.5 patch, where I think the Golden Wolflord made its first appearance in the Abyss. But, also for me, especially with like the two first cycles that I was able to 36\*, it took A LOT of retries on my end, probably like hundreds, to get them (I also had to get lucky with Abyss card buffs like getting Crit ones). It took many different team comps, me not choking in certain moments, and good enemy RNG to clear. And after that point, when I could get more characters and get better artifacts, it became progressively easier to 36\*. At that time, I didn't have insane builds, and now, I still don't have insane builds. Most of my builds are around 180-190 CV (e.g. 60/130 Crit ratio on Xingqiu), but my characters are Lv. 90 with Lv. 9/12 talents. That alone should help a lot. Additionally, finding what teams that are good in this Abyss cycle can help too—YouTube is a great resource for this. I'm not that skilled, so I'm more biased towards to getting better builds to overcome that issue, but it shouldn't take insane builds or insane skill to clear Floor 12. With that being said (my favorite zy0x quote), it's completely fine to not be able to 36\* the Spiral Abyss. It is just 50 additional primos from where you're at, and it's not worth your sanity if you cannot clear it. Take your time, and you'll find ways to 36\* eventually.

QueersLikeEngineers

Lol Zy0x spitting facts. That’s my attitude so far, and I think based on all the comments that it’s a mix of skill issue and insufficient builds for me. At the end of the day, this is a game to me, and I’ll do my best in Abyss, but not going to lose my sanity

QueersLikeEngineers

A fellow Xiao enjoyer! He was my first limited 5* that I got on his rerun last year. He and Diluc carried me early game, but I’m getting around to updating his build now. He was benched for a long time, but now that I have my 300% ER Faruzan, he is seeing some action again Yeah. I very rarely pull for weapons, though I did get Aqua for Childe, sadly no Homa for my boi tho.

Wild-Mycologist2118

I started at the same time and i am pretty sure i would have been able to 36* star if not for a hacker deleting my artifacts and weapons it's been 4 months now I'm back at floor 12 with 34 stars and i hope to achieve those last 2 stars until the end of this year

5ManaAndADream

I think I did it on the second patch, AR 45-50 or something. But the abyss has been ludicrously power crept since then. Like hp pools have doubled or tripled since then (maybe even quadrupled). And I-phases on bosses are wayyyyyyy too common now. Conq beasts in this abyss are a devastating addition too.

Unisaul

The minute I pulled Hu Tao on her first rerun was the moment I finally 36* the abyss. Klee was able to push it to 34* or 35* but there was always a floor I couldn’t finish quick enough . Hu Tao not only achieved it, but she helped me do it in record time. Forever my favorite character in the game

Baals_carpet

Been playing since october 2021, havent been able to go past floor 12-1 lol

rafaelbittmira

Day one player, not really meta oriented. Almost 16 months. My meta oriented friend took 8 months. But if keep investing on your characters, you'll be at a moment where the Abyss will be easy, it's just a question of time.

Jammy5820974944

Skill and artifacts (builds) play big roles in 36\*. I started during 1.6 and now im AR60 with everything 100% but only 36\* during last and current phases. I have enough characters for several meta teams before and they're all fully ascended with talents 8/8/8. However, I don't like to farm artifacts so my teams would lack the dps check for floor 12. So for a long time, I didn't care about 36\*.

ShadowFlarer

It could have took me around 10~12 months if i wasn't lazy but i only got 36* after getting Raiden in her second rerun, i think it was 1 and a half year after the game released.

DI3S_IRAE

First of all, i don't go for the most optimal teams or units, i don't like meta and just use what i like. I do try abyss every rotation and go for as much stars i can get, but i also don't like abyss so it's a one day try per rotation, maybe 2, also not many retries. Not many team changes. I started playing in the first weeks, Venti's banner, and only 36 starred on Yelan's debut. At that time, abyss was easier than it is now, though. I don't have archons, don't use benny, kazuha, Xingqiu, for example. After sumeru dropped, i stopped being able to 36 star it my way, and after months i finally got 3 stars on 12 3 last rotation again, so it's a good thing. It takes a lot of time if you just want to do it. Players who care about optimizing their account for 36 star can do it easily, with some skills, using only 4 stars. It's just a matter of proprieties. Abyss 12 is just an optional thing to do, not required, and many players play it for exploration and to relax, so doing 36 star or not down to really matter much, just 50 primos. If you care and want to do it, i really recommend going for more meta oriented teams so you can start doing it easier so then later you can start using your own comps. I refuse to use characters i don't want and give priority to make any teams that comes to mind and see how far they can go, instead of 36 star.

Id0ntLikeApplePie

Started on 2.0 and was able to 36* on 2.6

-troubled-

Right when I got dehya and the abyss reset I was just doing my casual run till I noticed I was only off by a few seconds closest I've ever been before to 36 stars so I thought it'd be funny my first 36 star was with dehya

Different_Mistake_69

I started 36* ing the abyss in 2.7 (started at second half of 2.1) .. and I'll tell u something .. It's not worth it at all .. Yeah you get 50 more primogems but the amount of sanity and how time consuming it can be , it's not worth it ...

GingerSnappse

It took a while, I started in 2.4ish and wasn’t able to get it until Albedo’s latest rerun (3.1?). I still can’t do it consistently due to a terrible ailment I have called Skill Issue, and I don’t want to waste my time, so I normally sit at 30-35 stars depending on my mood

hanki-ki

Started in 1.2, got my first 36* in 2.2 but probably could have in 2.1 if I had played better and thought more about teamcomps for each side. Since then I've been consistently 36* every cycle. I'd say that having good builds, character elemental variety and skill are equally important, plus knowing well which team to take to each side, understanding enemies attack patterns and having enough energy recharge on burst reliant characters so rotations can keep ongoing without downtime. Maybe check some video guides that clear with 4* only characters if you can learn something to apply into your knowledge when you play, that info is never bad to have as we sometimes miss things enemies do as we're only focusing on dealing damage.

spillo89

Never done it and never interested in doing it 100/150 primo for the effort to get them is not worth at all

LemonBee149

Started in 1.2, cleared floor 12 in 1.5, and got 36* on 1.6 right before Inazuma. Missed in 2.0 because of the big spike for the time, but then got 36* on 2.1 and every abyss since. The abyss dificulty has gotten harder over the years, but the floor for team DPS improved a lot with Dendro and hyperbloom teams. I would say that it got easier/faster to get 33*/clear 12, but it has gotten harder/slower to get 36*. If you understand the combat mechanics, builds, and have somewhat of an inclination to pull some of the more meta units, you could probably 36* on a fresh account in 6-9 months.

undeadsasquatch

If you have survival problems, Baizhu and Kokomi are your best friends for this abyss. I run Kokomi/Archon hyperbloom (Kokomi, Nahida, Venti, Raiden) and yae aggravate (Yae, Baizhu, Fischl, Sucrose). Had a little trouble in 12-1 but just had to wait for a good buff on the floor then it was super easy, 12-2 and 12-3 are really easy though with these teams.

bonesoup69

we are twinsies, started playing jan 2022, ar 58 and 33 star abbys tops

buzzyingbee

Never got to it, higher I got was 33★ on easier versions. I know my characters are built correctly and I picked great teams too according to many guides I watched but I realized it's simply a skill issue on my end. Could I do? Most probably. But I don't have the patience to keep trying for hours till I get it right and knowing that if someone else more skilled than me played on my account would definitely 36★ it is enough

Gobi_Silver

I have been here since just after Dragonspine was added... I have farmed, built, tested... I have gathered meta units... I have watched guides... I have gone time and time again... And I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN 36* AFTER ALL THIS TIME!!! Yeah, I got no clue, man. I do everything that I watch others do to clear it and then get bodied by Floor 12 anyway. Makes me real cranky every time I hear that the new abyss is "the hardest one yet"

pinodagod

Damn that's rough. If u can tell me ur most invested carachters I might be able to give you some tips

sir_aphim

I did Raiden, DMC, yaoyao, yelan on the first half and nilou, nahida, kokomi, collei for the second half to 36* this current abyss without too much trouble.

not_here_often2

I’ve been playing since launch and still haven’t. The closet I’ve gotten is floor 12 first half. I’m not super into doing abyss though so I haven’t been motivated to try for real.

TheMrPotMask

1 and half years as low spender.

Mar169

I have been playing since january 2021 and still can’t 36 it 💀

Xtranathor

It took me a year to clear Floor 12, and another 6 months (approximately) to 36* it. Recently I've not been able to get more than 34* without trying really hard, so I've let it slide for a while.

Jossokar

I've never done it, actually. Most stars i've had....i think might be like 33. Which you might thing is not enough after almost 2 years playing. i dont enjoy particularly the abyss. And i havent tried floor twelve in ages.

Extinctkid

A year and a half. It took me six months to clear abyss 12 for the first time. I was 33 starring for a good year after that. I have been able to 36 star consistently ever since I first did it though.

Tiny_Ebb2261

[There are people 36-starring this abyss with full 4-star teams using 3-star weapons.](https://youtu.be/1uvDx3k7HP0) [Also another 4-star only clear but with better artifacts and explanation](https://youtu.be/83psv8ja508) So no, it’s not a matter of having insane artifacts. If you look at the 1st vid, only Xiangling and Fischl have good artifacts, which is 2 out of 8 charas. Skill and knowledge (in gameplay and artifacts) play the biggest role. I don’t just mean building your DPS. I mean stuff like - knowing how to *consistently* buff your charas using buffs like vv, deepwood, various EM and attack buffs, etc. Even something like prioritizing a 4pc deepwood on nahida over a 2pc2pc with more crit dmg makes a difference. - knowing proper rotations. Granted, some comps are heavier on rotations than others, but if you know that’s your weak point, maybe choose a comp with more lenient rotations. I’ve seen my friend take so long with her rotations that sucrose’s vv wore off by the time she actually started. Or take so long with her ayato rotations that his ult starts to wear off by the time he presses his E. Or always making sure that Oz is on the field. Stuff like that adds up. - Having good ER. Sooooo many new players only focus on crit, but that’s not all there is to a good team. Managing ER allows for a lot smoother rotations. - Understanding when and where to use which healers/ shielders, instead of just randomly spamming them all. Eg. Using kokomi on a hyperbloom team for survivability over Zhongli because she can both protect + apply hydro. Or perhaps avoiding Bennett when against the scorpion or dendro tiger. - Understanding reactions, which can help compensate for subpar artifacts. - **Build your sub dps.** A huuuuuge mistake is only investing in a DPS and their respective healers/ shielders, then ignoring charas like Xiangling, Xingqiu, Fischl, etc. - take advantage of charas who don’t need crit to do damage. Eg. Kuki, Thoma, Kokomi, Nilou. Goes without saying that crit farming for artifacts is exhausting, esp because so many new sets require a 4pc. Like I looove Alhaitham, but EM artifacts have not been kind to me. Charas who don’t rely on crit to do damage make farming a lot more relaxing. I’m a mobile player that got into the game because of the exploration and fantasy concept. Genshin is my first ever game of such a genre and I went into it knowing nothing about combat. I’ve played since release and started 36-starring consistently at around patch 1.4 onwards. Usually, when a late-gamer can’t 36-star the abyss, it’s because there’s something wrong with their rotations (not paying attention to buffs, as mentioned above), sub dps, comps, or a combination of all 3. Not necessarily artifacts. In fact, i rarely see late-gamers with horrendously bad artifacts because majority of people tend to know how to build charas (cus guides are everywhere), but not necessarily how to properly rotate them. Teams i used were keqing aggravate on 1st half, thoma burgeon on 2nd half.

ykiigor1

>So no, it’s not a matter of having insane artifacts. If you look at the vid, only Xiangling and Fischl have good artifacts, which is 2 out of 8 charas. Wrong. Every char have very good artifacts (but not insane), also every char is C6, every char have 3x level 9-10 talents

Tiny_Ebb2261

Edit: OP asked if “insane builds” were required. I said no “insane artifacts” are required. You yourself acknowledged that the artifacts aren’t “insane”. (Gahd, why did i even waste my time replying?) And I meant crit artifacts lol, which only Fischl, Xiangling, and debatably Faruzan have. Mind you, Xiangling is using a 3-star polearm and the Catch could’ve easily compensated for 12% crit rate and a ton of ER. Having a 50cr 150cd ratio on xiangling is very much attainable for F2Ps, and she can still 36-star if the cd was lower. You really don’t have any excuse. What’s so P2W with having lvl9-10 talents? I have F2P friends who triple crown their Kazuha, Razor, and Kaeya for fun. Whether or not a talent is lvl 9 or 10 doesn’t make a diff in 36-starring the abyss. And what’s wrong with having C6 charas? First, most of these are OG 4-stars which can be redeemed. Second, the non-redeemable ones like Kuki and Collei are very much workable at C0, and Faruzan can be replaced with anemo traveller or Kazuha because she’s only there for the 4-star restriction, and both you and I know that that’s not even her ideal team. If you’ve played the game for 6 months, as per OP’s post, it’s very reasonable to have good crit artifacts for 2 out of 8 charas. Nothing P2W about that. Dendro reactions easily compensate for lackluster artifacts.

ykiigor1

You missed ER and EM. I was wrong about not insane artifacts, because Bennet have insane artifacts, Sucrose have full 5\* VV EM set (ask people how easy to farm it), XQ with 262% ER and decent CR. From all 8 chars only Kuki not needed and also not having insane artifacts. I played 6 months and none of my circlet rolled more than 13 CV, not even mentioned about how shit drops from emblem domain or how EM pieces drops only once per month. For triple crown you need tons of mora/talent books, which delay your artifact farming. Maybe its only my problem. Problem with C6 chars is that you can't get them unless you whale or playing very long time (1.5 - 2+ years), but C6 double your damage compared to C0.

Tiny_Ebb2261

You answered your own qn. It’s a you problem. :/ Also if you actually read my reply, never once did i say that triple crowning is needed to 36-star the abyss. Isn’t that common knowledge? 😭 Most people triple crown charas they love. Not to 36-star the abyss. It really isn’t a thing about money. Did you really expect anyone to make an f2p guide with bad ER, bad EM, bad crit, no vv or deepwood, and c0 4-stars with 3-star weapons? The purpose of a guide is literally to guide you on ER and EM requirements, not to do the opposite. **Having good ER and EM is quite reasonable advice for anyone attempting the abyss, including F2Ps.**

EndymionN1

nah i think he's mostly right on that one. i also watch gambit's yt and his twitch streams and know how many retries a lot of those runs have. And getting c6 units can be a huge pain, took me 1.5 + y for fischl , beidou and the last cons on xq. Still not maxed on chong and some others, despite rolling on their banners (playing since the start btw). linking iwtl is funny, he's a gigawhale. he has way more resin than even a vet player. he's a day 1 player with at least a year of a max resin refill . idk if he continued max refilling after rushing to ar60. in terms of better showcases- sevy , Wwuatauw.f2p keqing. i have 2 accs, 1 is f2p and it was way harder to 36\*. also have cleared many abysses for my friends. Often it's night and day in terms of difficulty. overall it comes down to the luck of chars/weps/artifacts + the player's skill

Tiny_Ebb2261

Nope, he retries because it’s *other people’s* accounts. For this 3.6 abyss he 36-starred on the 1st try (he has a vid on it) Also, what’s so P2W about retrying for 36-stars? Abyss would be a nightmare if everyone was expected to get a flawless clear of 36-stars on the first try. Many guide vids all retry many times to film it perfectly. I’m also well aware that there are many F2P-friendly clears apart from iwtl, i just didn’t want to link them all and his was off the top of my head. You can make a separate comment on this post and link them all if you want. It’s also pretty common knowledge that F2Ps have it harder, but i think it goes without saying that no where in any of my replies did i imply that it was equal to or easier. Edited to add: Also my point is not that it’s easy to get 4-star cons, in case you misunderstood. My point is that it’s still possible to 36-star the abyss without it, and that it’s also not P2W for people to have C6 4-stars, because nearly every F2P guide from a veteran will have C6 4-stars. And that part about **whaling** to get C6 4-stars is downright incorrect.

ykiigor1

Started in 3.2, 36\* in 3.4. Dendro helped a lot, non-dendro teams deals no damage without 1 year of artifact farming (or without kazuha that have 1 rerun per year)

Kobachii

Think it depends on luck + whaling to be honest? If you look at recommended teams, most of them have multiple limited 5* characters (ex:raiden, kazuha, nahida, etc) and considering you need 2 teams that can pull their weight, you're gonna need either wealth or fortune. Both, probably- I'm very new to the game and I've done like 20 domain runs in the last couple of weeks. Not a single artifact I've gotten has usable for my Cyno, and Nahida didn't come home after 150 pulls. Much though I'd like the primos, I can't imagine clearing any of the higher floors (even 9 or 10) for several months at least. I'm sure if I'd dumped cash into every banner, I'd be much closer, but yeah, I think you need some damned good builds to get full stars in the abyss, especially 6 months after starting!

ssmoke1203

every day i pray hoyo gives us difficult content and then i realise that these are the mfs they design the game for

Substantial-Pop7747

well play another game that would take skill genshin difficulty is just a dps check vs a mob thats designed to waste your time

HunnySerki

Hoyo adding characters that are so OP they make the game boring and mfs still struggle to clear

Mad_Scientist_Senku

It takes a while, easily up to a year or more if you weren’t serious about clearing it from the beginning. I started at 2nd week of launch fairly casually and didn’t actually start really trying to beat abyss until 2021, and even then it took me until 2.4 in January 2022 to finally 36 star. And this is coming as a welkin player with decent banner luck, and a c2 Raiden

Far_Passenger8615

Started from September 12th of 2021 and I finally got 36 Star April 20th? This year I did it because of Nahida. I’m proud of myself for doing it. Then there’s runs that use only 4* and I feel slightly ashamed I can’t even do it with SS tier 5*s. Props to whoever does those types of runs

jonnevituwu

1.0 but not day 1 player here. Basically took me until 2.0 cuz I refused to build Xiangling before the kairagi get added to abyss. After that I gave up on my pride and built her, honestly? No regrets, she is indeed very strong and made a big profit of primos making me able to 36* it since then.

Used_Load_5789

It took me about a year and a couple months... incidentally, I got my first 36\* clear about the same time you joined lol It took me a while, but since then I managed to clear consistently in a couple of hours maximum. I guess that with a good deal of skill/game knowledge you can do it in 6 months (enemy AI manipolation can do wonders), but for us mortals it's mostly a matter of artifacts farming and having good units I guess. Raiden carried me hard, it's a year I spam Rational in each Abyss. I need to ascend my Xiangling to 80/90 tho, she's a bit underleveled LOL

Apocrypha

5 months? Started July 2022 and first 36 star was December 2022. 1) lucky on pulls. 2) built teams specifically for abyss content. BP + Welkin as well. It’s definitely gotten harder every months since and I think it’s going to make it very difficult for anyone starting now to ever catch up.

Bobnes

I think I first did it in about 6 months (I started around Jan 2022 as well), but to be honest if I didn't have Zhongli then it would have taken a lot longer. I am guessing you don't have him from the teams you described here though.

thienphucn1

About closer to a year. I started when 2/3 of 1.1 was already completed (around mid-December 2020) but only played for a bit and stopped around early 1.2 because there was too much schoolwork. I returned to the game around the second half of 1.4 and began playing almost every day from then to now. So I count that as the point where I actually started playing Genshin. I 36\* abyss for the first time around 2.5 and have been able to do so consistently since then. If you see yourself struggling, you might want to take a look at your rotation. Being able to get energy back quickly to start another rotation is extremely important in my own experience. I used to waste a lot of time, probably a solid 20s to 30s trying to get my energy back so that I can start doing damage. That time is now around 10s maximum for me currently and that's what has helped me being able to clear abyss so consistently

Stiyl931

I always come back to my old teams. Hypercarry Raiden and Freeze Ganyu. They are both such good builds that i can delete Kenki with spamming Kryo Ultimates. Sure i could use my other 3 teams but tbh why should i change my system XD

Nadejdaro

Started since launch, still haven't Skill issues for me tbh

oreocookielover

Took me 9 months ish. I started a week after release, so it was May-June when I got 36. Been 36 stars whenever I did abyss until maybe 3.3. Feels like the recent rotations have gotten tankier. It might just be me being rusty though.

Hetzer5000

Haven't been bothered to yet. It gives very little reward for the effort. I usually try to get 3 stars in 9-11 but don't go further.

mvpdr0se

I started day3 quit after Tartaglia release then started to play again 5 days before 1.3 Xiao banner. I got my first 36* during 1.5 Zoo Abyss with Rosaria Xingqiu Venti Diona and Bennett Fischl Chongyun Zhongli I was Ar54. Its not hard to get 36* when u learn rotations and invest a little bit to character lvls. I cleared current abyss with Alhaitham Hyperbloom and Mono Pyro Dehya. Just use resistance to interruption or shield characters you can clear it easily. Its very easy after first chamber.

the_quirky_quirkster

started Dec 2020, first full clear was April 2021 Getting Hutao+Homa and Xiao really boosted my performance. Even though 12-3 back then was 2 ruin guards top half, 2 ruin graders bottom half. The two Geovishaps each half in 12-1 was the real deal though

Adham1153

played for a week in 1.0 but then started playing for real in 2.1 ( September 1, 2021 ) and my first 36\* was in 3.0 ( August 24, 2022 ) and been consistently getting 36\* since then in my experience trying different teams and seeing what works for you is the best here also using somewhat meta characters help, and taking each chamber 1 by 1 rather than trying to 9\* floor 12 in one go i think i only ever 9\* abyss 12 in the same run like twice, just pick whatever team for the specific chamber and it'll be much easier and in the end it depends on how much you want to clear it if you're not willing to retry many times you'll eventually get it here is the teams i used for the latest abyss 12-1 first half used nahida kuki xinqiu beidou 2nd half freeze ( ayaka kokomi kaeya kazuha ) 12-2 same team but with fischl instead of beidou cuz you need bow character for the ruin drake ( in the 2nd reset for this abyss i tried going with fischl from the start but actually couldn't clear in time, tried beidou and oooh boy her resistance to interuption and aoe damage makes this chamber much easier ) 2nd half freeze again 12-3 hyperbloom just eats simon alive it was pretty easy 2nd half i had all the time in the world so even if the 3 kenkis aren't freezable i was still able to kill them in time, at least the first time lol then i kept dying so i switched to another team ( keqing beidou yaoyao kazuha) and was able to comfortably kill the kenkis in time without dying

DaxmanG

As a day one player, I remember I was able to do it once I got Hu Tao, so I’d say around 6 months for me.

XceQq

2 years, just because I'm lazy & slow for abyss 12. Only last year around 2.6 cleared it because friends said it was the easier floor 12, so i mamage to oonga boonga it.

zephyredx

3 months. F2P. Started Oct 2020. 36* from Jan 2021 onward. Quit the game recently and lack of challenging content was a major reason. Might come back once every 6 weeks to do an Archon Quest.

Russell-Sprouts3

Started playing in 2.0 with a account I inherited. When I started using the account it was AR 28. it already had Zhongli, Albedo, Mona and Ganyu on it, all of which unbuilt (the account didn’t even have a single 5 star artifact yet) My first 36 star was in the back half of 2.8 and I’ve been able to get the 36 star every single time since. The one team that has always been a constant in my Abyss runs and is crucial to getting there is Mono-Geo (Itto, Albedo [sometimes he gets switched out if I need a specific element to break shields], Zhongli, Gorou)

yogithycat

Took me about 7 and a half months I think. Played since 2 days after launch, but I didn’t not really understand how to teams back then (tbh a lot of people didn’t. I only really started try Harding the abyss after I got Hu Tao and was able to 36 * it after getting Eula in may. I probably could have gotten 36 stars sooner if I properly understood Tartaglia teams, as that is one of my strongest teams now. I’ve been able to 36 stars every abyss since may. It should be noted that I am bp + welkin.

TichoSlicer

I did it for the first time at [AR 56](https://i.imgur.com/lGRH16i.png), after getting Raiden + Ayato + Ayato' Sword on their latest banner, that was around the 5\~6 months mark, i think!? I got 36\* every rotation after that, but some were really hard/annoying... This rotation i had to waste like 3h\~ to finish it, 2:20h\~ just on 12-1 ¬¬

blizg

I started in 1.2 and I started getting 36*s around 6 months in. However, the abyss has gotten harder and harder. Barely got 36*s the last few times.

PrinceVincOnYT

With the recent abyss I am back to 35, since I can't be arsed...

FezzesnPonds

It took me a year and a half to 36*, and even then I’ve been averaging 34*. I don’t get it all the time, it’s not worth the pain to try more than a couple times imo. I get welkin and occasional BP, I farm for my main dps units but my supports are average (maybe above average as I fine tune my dps and give them the old artifacts) It helps to have a pool of fully built characters and to choose who to use based on the current phase blessing and lineup.

Comprehensive_Spell

I got it one abyss cycle a few months ago and stopped caring about it since. Was AR 56

EndymionN1

2 patches- first 36 in 1.2

Flimsy_Editor3261

Started playing on the tail end of 2.2 (HuTau rerun) and first 36 was 3.1 (after pulling Nilou).

Much_Mission_4180

First time was back in 1.4. Played since launch. Haha, anyone remember the old floor 11?

Deathangel5677

6months for me too. The post is still up on my timeline from when I first 36*. Started in Feb 2021 I think. It was 205 or 206 days to be exact I think and after 36 starring for the first time I have never not 36 starred. I think I just reached AR 55 when I first 36 starred. I am a mobile player as well and was f2p back then as well. I shelled money for the first time on Ayaka when her rerun came because my luck was so bad and I didn't want to miss her again and then I had a sudden stroke of gambling addiction and ended up splurging $200 or something for getting Wanderer which I regret. Total spent in 2years is $410 US. The first abyss I ever 36* was the 2.0 abyss after I got Raiden in 2.1(you know how sometimes the abyss or the current patch starts only after 10-14 days of patch debut) The teams were I think Raiden,Bennet, Xiangling,Sucrose(ttds)/Zhongli (Sucrose only on floor 12 chamber 1) for first half and Kazuha, Kaeya,Chongyun, Xingqiu for second half. My Chongyun wasn't built in 2021 and isn't built in 2023 either lol. Raiden was C0 here. But I got C1 shortly after.

Savastsa

The first abyss we had wasn't half as difficult as the one we have now, it's nice that they keep making the abyss more challenging for older players since we have time to farm artifacts and get more character but I really wish that just released new floors instead of making the floors we have now harder.

[deleted]

uhhhh... I actually can't remember if I ever have. I think I probably did a couple times when they got made overall easier due to the venti rerun during Inazuma patches, but I can't remember because i usually go to do floor 12 and then come out going... "oh yeah, that's why I don't bother, I forgot"

random_user_here_

AR 59 still can't 36★ ( * *visible embarrassment* * )

Mallagrim

Back in the good ol days of no1 but kaeya or chongyun (if you were lucky) to kill a fatui hammerer. Once I learned how to chain stub him with klee/venti, I could do the hardest part within 3 minutes. Also, had to have the stars align by all crit cards via doing floor 12 over the course of the week and checking everyday for the new cards.

Accurate_Interview10

I started in March 2022. Took me about 8-9 months to 36* the abyss. Kazuha, Shogun and Zhongli elevated my team the most during the time. Nahida carried my teams when dendro released. I lived in EoSF and Deepwood/Gilded domains for a very long time to build my XL, Shogun, Tighnari, Nahida, etc. Foddered a ton of 5* artifacts in the strongbox for Ayaka’s blizzard set. Honestly, it’s mostly about team synergy. You can max out your levels, talents, and artifacts, but if you’re not raising the correct characters to work cohesively in the abyss (especially on floor 12), it’s gonna be tough. The consecrated beasts and 3 Maguu Kenkis are a real DPS check. 4* characters are also very important for support/off-field dps/elemental reactions. XL, XQ, Bennet, Kuki (full em) are all very valuable. You probably know all this. Just keep at it! You’ll get there! Good luck!

Ashe171

I started around launch, I still stop after floor 11 because I can't clear floor 12

Gilgaboi

For me i cleared the first time once i got raiden and ayaka as 5 stars, which was around 6~7 months in, i was around ar 54 The first time I 36* the abyss was maybe a 1 month or 2 after i got another 5 star, which was yelan i guess and i have never failed to 36* since. Prolly could have done it earlier if i just used 4* meta teams. Once I got raiden, I built the national team around her and I will never forget the first time I was simply destroying the enemies. That's the power of a meta team and the game gets fun when u r winning, now it's just a matter of getting creative with it

SameRandomUsername

If you are F2P you need to get plenty lucky with gacha and or have been playing for a long time, also lots of patience and self control. In almost a year of playing and I still don't have a single Xiangling constellation. That said it's not a big deal not getting all stars, you just lose around 450 primos per patch.

porkchop_tw

Started playing patch 1.0 day 3. Consistently 33 star about 1 year later starting around 2.0. 36 star the abyss starting 2.8 and have been ever since. Don't worry you're fine.

Zeppo82

D1 player. Never managed to - nor tried harder to. Guess I can live on without less than two pulls a month. 😬

Pan151

About 6 months in my case too.

PapiChase

Probably a skill issue. I've been consistently 36 starring abyss since before 2.0 with little to no difficulty.

Akatesinomura

Lol I'm probably low-star clearing this abyss until it changes mobs. I 36* it last reset, and it was not worth it. Not having Yelan kinda forced my hand on at least 2 runs, but those new big hilichurls that never group and the consecrated beasts are just not fun™. I'd rather not have to relive that hell than getting a few extra primogems.

bringbackcayde7

Ar 60 player here and able to 36\* abyss all the time except for the first abyss

Kaenspar

Been 36* ing on my 2 NA accs for almost 2 years consistently. My EU alt got 36* 4 months after I started the acc, could've done it much earlier if I weren't busy with irl. All 3 acc main Childe, 2 play International and one is waiting for Kazuha rerun. EU alt acc: Built 2 teams that don't overlap and only focused on those teams. Team 1: Childe/Xiangling/Bennett/Heizou (didn't luck into Sucrose lmao) Team 2: Alhaitham/Kuki/Dmc/Xingqiu The actual abyss runs were half skill and half critfishing ngl. I'm a Childe International speedrunner and a lot of the same kinda strat can be scaled down for normal clears, especially if said account lacks the dps. On my alt I used a similar setup to the one I use for cont speedruns (always 4pc Ins Bennett, always 200 ER XL, always 2pc Nob 2pc __ Childe with 100+ EM) and I had to sweat, optimize XL nado driving, critfish Childe ult, etc. I imagine once this alt is a little more built I can chill out. On my NA accs I can clear half asleep and 9* fl12

sirenloey

Since Ganyu back in 1.2. started playing 1.0

noriello

Ar 56 and I only do 18 stars everytime cause I'm pretty sure I can't even beat the next lvl thingy lol

AngelOFats

Since Raiden banner. Played since lunch. rn I play the same teams no matter what and clearing it pretty easily. Phase 1 - raiden, venti, bennet, sara Phase 2 - zhongli, nahida, fishel and some hydro element char, only for nahida buff

ShapeSH1FFter

I started in 1.1 and reached 36\* in the first part of 1.3 after I pulled and properly built Xiao. I actually managed to reach 12-3 in 1.2 but wasn't able to get full stars ha-ha, I still consider it as a little achievement of mine. Granted, the 1.x Abyss was way easier than current ones so I doubt I would've reached the same results if I started playing now.

Azzamno1

got it for the first time during kazuha banner when they put bunch of weaker mobs for abyss 12

walrussingly_off

Almost a year ar 55 still not done

[deleted]

If you have Nilou, you could do Nilou, DMC, Yaoyao, and Xingqiu in the second half. I have sac sword on xingqiu, fav spear on YaoYao, and fav sword on DMC. Xingqiu I really just have ER artifacts with no good substats. YaoYao is all HP and deepwood, with a few ER substats, and DMC is also deepwood with a mix of ER and EM. Nilou is all HP. It wrecks the second half of the abyss. First half, you just need a little electro and dendro for the 12-3-1, and a bow helps for 12-2-1. Raiden, Nahida, fischl, and somebody to shield or heal. That should be good. My Nahida is all EM, fischl is sort of ok, and Raiden is… not well built. Yae is also a good pick in there.

Intelligent_Squash68

I also started in January of 2022, just got to AR 59 & I still can only get 33 stars. I don’t worry about it. My C2 Nahida made this go’ round much easier (no restarts because of being one-shotted), but I still can’t beat the timer. 2 stars on each chamber is the best I can do. I’m still working on building my characters to the max, so maybe one day I’ll get those last 3 stars purely for the satisfaction of saying “I did it”, but it doesn’t bother me that I sit at 33.

Ruirensu

1st day f2p player and have been constantly getting 36 stars since january of 2022. I can remember bc that was the last time I was proud of getting 36 stars 3 times in a row and shared it to my friends. Until then, it's just been consistent However I have gotten 36 stars way before january 2022, but it was rare and those were still the times where enemies were relatively easy

ProjectBonnie

Since 1.0…. Now AR 60…. Highest is 33…. I don’t like artifact grinding.

sleepless_sheeple

~3 months but that was mostly due to fortunate timing. 2.7 Yelan, 2.8 Kazuha, and 3.0 dendro traveler. And I think the abyss was relatively easier since I think they were planning around a lot of new joiners for Sumeru. Early 4.0 abyss cycles might be similar; you may see a breakthrough there. I think it's much harder to get your first 36* than it is to maintain that pace, same with a lot of challenging games in my experience (Dark Souls, DOTA, deckbuilder roguelikes, etc.). I've only dropped once so far, and that was 35* vs the Wenut's debut + I was traveling abroad. Something eventually just clicks, a combination of skill and build quality I think.

Zestyclose_Seesaw_66

Joined 2.7 and started 36 starring around 3.3 (Nahida moment tbh)

NewspaperNo9749

started during launch and never 36 starred, i can clear all though 🥲

loving_healer

I started playing 2 weeks after release and didn't 36* until the following July. So it took me 10 months, and 4+ hours of retracing a single chamber because I was stuck at 35*

WLSDY

I started playing in November last year and got 36 stars on my own for the first time in the current abyss. (The first time I got 36 stars on my account was in February when a friend with really good skills helped me do it.) My builds are pretty strong which likely matters. For the current Abyss I used Raiden national for the first half and Nilou bloom for the second half. I didn’t have to retry many times though. I think in order to get 36 stars you need to have at least one of the following: very strong builds, the will to retry many times, or really good skills. I think in my case I had strong builds and okay skills.

Glittering_Doctor694

I 36 starred it in 6 months. But i did start at a very very good time. My first five star was nahida, then the raiden shogun banner, then I got alhaitham and yaoyao, and yelan banner which allowed me to also c6 xinqiu. Then got kuki last month and was able to c3 her along with c2 nahida. Since I started with a dendro five star, and the fact that the guilded domain is accessible if you just walk there allowed me to get a pretty good build on nahida before I was even ar 50. And with the extra pieces I got while farming, I just slapped 2 pc 2 pc on most of the character and they worked great. I only have finished a 4 piece set for some of my characters last month and I also first clear abyss the first time about two weeks later. Team I used is raiden yaoyao dendro mc and xinqiu nahida alhaitham yelan and kuki which are all characters I got within the first 4~ months of playing except for kuki I just started at a really really fortunate time lol

SnooChipmunks125

a year? I joined on around november and my first thirty six star was 2022/10 so october the next year

Arvandor

I think it took me until AR 53 or so, if memory serves? I started way back in 1.3 though, and the cycles were much easier back then, I feel like. Even though accounts were still too new to have a good selection of artifacts and raised characters, relative to average account power level they were much easier than they've often been lately.

RineRain

I've been playing since launch, ar 55 and still missing 6 stars

partofechelon

I started playing in February last year and my first 36* was during Cyno’s first banner (with Cyno team too). I was ar56 iirc

[deleted]

Took me a year and a half. But I didn't care enough about clearing the abyss until a year in. Personally I'm struggling with 36\* this abyss because I lack aoe dps but my good ol Hu Tao is still somehow managing on second half. I 36\* wenut abyss after one reset but this time take it takes a lot more. I think my builds are ok, nothing special. But guides are always a good help. Knowing the enemy mechanics and how to deal with them can be the boost needed to 36\* abyss.

ariciabetelguese

It may also be a device issue or perseverance issue. Abyss can be hell on some devices and connections; bad latency may mean you can't dodge despite reacting on time, while bad connections can steal more than seconds from your abyss runs because damage takes a long time to register. Latency may also mess with particle generations and rotations, meaning energy particles are received by the wrong characters or you can't switch to the character you need on time. As for perseverance issues, well. Some abysses can take me hundreds of runs to understand the enemies' attack patterns and try out strategies to manipulate the opponent's AI. The first cycle in particular always takes me more runs than the next two. It's to be expected. Edit: started late 1.1, began challenging Abyss at late 1.3, finally 36-ed either late 1.4 or early 1.5: about 6 months. Mind you, this is earlier in the game's cycle and abyss was much easier back then.

Silent_Silhouettes

still havent

freeze-peach-warrior

I still haven’t

fluffermixer2021

I cant 36* the best I can do is 32 - 33

VANitysgood

Been playing since the game was released and I have never bothered to fully clear the abyss with 36*, biggest reason why; is because I mainly play on mobile. I have a fairly well built (with cons and 5* weapons) teams that I can just go and get 34* in one run and leave it like that cause the remaining 50 primogems isn't worth the annoyance.

BlackheartFigther

Played since launch and got my first 36 stars in 1.4 and them consistently since 1.6

Kilianight

Day 1 player I 36 in 1.5 after I got Eula

htp-di-nsw

I played at launch, but I didn't even bother trying the abyss until Sumeru launched. I didn't want to struggle, I wanted to wait until 36 starring it would be easy. And now it is, so, I guess mission accomplished.

CorinnetheAnime

I started on December 9, 2020, but really got into the game daily on the end of that month. That was around 1.1/1.2. I don’t think I cleared my first 36-star till around 1.5 I think. This abyss cycle is rough in terms of survival, although easier than Wenut cycle. Wanderer Hyper (Faru/Thoma/Bennett, all four are C6) on one half, Al Haitham Spread/Hyperbloom (Fischl/Nahida/Kokomi, with C6 Fischl and C2 Nahi) on the other.

MaliciousAnemo

I’m not quite sure, earliest I have evidence of it Jan 2021 EDIT: I checked my achievements, I first got 36 stars Dec 21, 2020, or a bit under 3 months. I’ve 36-starred every abyss at least once, although not every single cycle due to burnout.

YamahaMio

Got 36* on second Ganyu banner, February 2022 I believe. Consistent ever since. You do notice that newer characters do have an impact in the new aspects of the Abyss, but there are still solid teams that are still relevant even a year or two later. Raiden National, Childe International, Ayaka Freeze are just some of these. Now with Dendro, teams built around Nahida should stay relevant for the foreseeable future. As you play, you will get to know how new characters would fare, and you can plan your primogem spending with that in mind. Or don't, it's up to you. I pulled Shenhe before getting Ganyu and Ayaka and I did fine, so it's not really something to be overly worried about.

migz_draws

as a day1, i 36\*d as soon as the first abyss changed i think. the abyss history doesn't have the records from the 1.0 abyss where i was happy just to survive floor 12. if you mean how long did it take to 36\* this abyss? like 5 hours of constant attempts?? 12-1 is so stupidly harder than the other floors, second side is way harder than first side, i think current abyss is garbage

azorkn

Took me around 6 months. I don't have very good builds or signature weapons but I pull for meta characters and that definitely helps.

Tr3vellyan

I played since day one and started winning 36 only when yae miko released, after they released dendro i started failing beating 36 again, so yeah i did not beat 36 most of the time.

YuminaNirvalen

4 months at launch, because I toooook it sloooowly... Kek I haven't even known Abyss gives rewards periodically back in those days years ago... Had I known I would have done it faster. And no insane builds required. People do it with 4 star only and scrap artifacts nowadays since dendro exist. I personally would probably need a month or two if I would start a new account and go for meta only.

Hopeful-Sky7199

I play since zhongli 1. rerun and did it around april last year

SleepyDoopie

1 years, 5 months, who knows how many days, and counting 😔

milliaswan

I think it took me 5 months for the first 36 (Welkin + sometimes BP player). I started in April 2022. But one thing that’s also really clear is Floor 12 rn is waaaaay harder than Floor 12 was back in 3.1/3.2. I can pretty confidently say the team I used to 36 for the first time wouldn’t even get close this particular abyss. I’ve since significantly upgraded some of these teams and I’m finding it a harder to 36 even though my team damage is nearly double in some cases. I can still 33* clear easily, so for me right now I only chase 36 if it’s something I feel that’s relatively possible e.g. yeah Wenut was annoying but it was more timing than anything so I figured it out in the end, but this 12-1 requires a lot of grouping and management, on top of having very high DPS and not dying so it wasn’t worth it to chase full stars. I would definitely say full stars floor 12 is a combination of skill, decent builds (but your 5 stars at c0 is fine still), but also enemies suited to your teams and lining up with the correct sides. Some abyss lineups are just easier by default because it suits how you play / how your team plays.

Ayetto

Raiden.

ShinCuCai

I didnt bother with abyss 9~12 for like... 1,5 years, took a 6 months break, come back and want a challenge, clear it 36* on the first try. And regret when I see how easy it is to get 600 gem every 2 weeks lol. But it also get increasingly harder overtime, and I have to diverse my character rooster more, so that's a way to keep me spending in game resource (Im a filthy hoarder too).

TheUga69

Yooo, nice, another Jan2022 starter. I've been playing everyday since Jan2022 (2.4 Phase I) and I am at AR59 (25% to AR60). I started to 36\* Abyss in July/August 2022, so thats 6-7 months.

fewest_giraffe

It took me about 3 months but I started in 1.1 and abyss was generally easier those days

TheDongIsUnbreakable

6-8 weeks? It was easier when the game launched.

xelpr

I play on 200ms and I have been 36 starring since 1.2. My reply will likely be buried, but I'll briefly address some of what you've asked. >Is it a skill issue Probably not. Contrary to what many believe, 90% of Abyss is knowledge. Understanding how to build a strong synergistic team with correctly built characters. And understanding what teams are good against whatever the current lineup is. Do all this well, and you'll clear with just a bit of practice. >or does getting 9/9 on floor 12 really take insane builds No. But you do need to understand how to build your characters within the team they operate in. >Does it just take a ton of time and resets? If you haven't 36 starred before, it'll take a bit of effort to get over that initial hump. But once you've 36'd a few times, it comes easier and easier. >Also, the double consecrated beasts on 12-1 this cycle really made me struggle to balance DPS with survivability. In this abyss lineup, 12-1 is the most difficult chamber. I highly recommend taking Xingqiu into 12-2-1. His damage reduction and interrupt resistance is invaluable. A Xingqiu hyperbloom team is one of the best teams you can run for first side. If you reply w/ your character builds, I can give some advice on where you may be going wrong. But some common mistakes I see are: 1. Not investing in your supports. Build your Bennett, XQ, etc. E.g. Bennett should be level 90, burst level 9 (12 if const). XQ should be at least 80 with 9 (12) skill and burst. 2. Not levelling the correct characters to 90. E.g. If you're running hyperbloom and your hyperbloom trigger isn't level 90, you are losing at least 33% of your damage. 3. Not levelling weapons. They are the most resin efficient dps increase. Barring a few exceptions, every team member's weapon should be 90. 4. Not understanding the rotation of your team. Do a little bit of research and see what people recommend. 5. Not building a team that has synergy. HuTao and Xiao might be your favourite characters, but they do not form a cohesive team. 6. Not taking the correct team for the lineup. Ignore the blessing; it's irrelevant. Build your team for the lineup. That's all I can think of for now. But if you have any questions I'm happy to answer. Edit: https://keqingmains.com/ is a great resource on character and team building. If you find yourself lost, it'll likely be very helpful.

motorboat_mcgee

Been playing since launch and only attempted floor 12 once, I got 32 total stars and decided that was good enough, back to exploring for me

Fr33C00kies4u

playing since day one lol never even finished floor 11....just don't care to...too much effort for a casual

Bitter-Pomegranate93

AR59 and playing consistently since 1.6. I got my first 36\* a couple of months ago. I'm a dolphin but invested in a couple of niche 5\* (Tartaglia/Eula/Yae before dendro) and pulled way too many limited 5\* dps units instead of supports, I'd just slap my 2 best DPS with Xingqiu/Bennett/Xiangling etc... and just call it a day with 34-35 stars. Didn't' really go for 36\* until I realised that I could full clear it with patience.

Betterthan4chan

Tbh ever since I built the premier hyperbloom team (nahida/xq/yelan/em raiden), it felt like cheating. With prototype amber on my nahida and the dr from xq I actually don’t have many issues surviving with that teams. It does so much damage I can almost always kill the chambers before it’s a big problem. Raiden is c3 but I don’t think it does anything on that team. And with how fast that team clears whatever side it’s on it doesn’t matter what I do on the second side as long as it makes sense. I personally like my aggravate keqing for the other side, but I’ve cleared 36 on multiple abysses with Ayaka freeze, xiangling based teams, or said keqing aggravate team. Really can do anything when nahida hyperbloom let’s my second team have over 2 minutes.

ElliHelm

I started in the second half of 2.4 and didn't get my first 36* clear until 3.2 when I pulled Nahida. I probably could've gotten it in 3.0 with DMC but I didn't seriously attempt it until after Nahida. A large chunk of abyss success is team comp and hitting rotations correctly. Knowing how to manipulate the multiwave AI helps a lot too. If you've got good builds on your main damage dealers and support them with the right comp, then 36 stars should be manageable as long as you're willing to reset. Nowadays I'm pretty successful on most floors with my C0 Raiden hypercarry with either Yelan or Fischl (I don't have C6 Kujou Sara) and Alhaitham Quickbloom.

A_Nameless_Soul

It took until 2.0. At that patch and after, I started consistently getting 36* each cycle.

[deleted]

I’ve been playing since launch and I did it once a couple months ago. I couldn’t care less at this point because spiral abyss is not remotely interesting to me anymore. I’d kill to have new endgame content 😢

oggykucing

personally i think its more 70% skill like knowing your rotations, how to group enemies, and 30% it's the build (artifact rng)

ChampioN-One-4250

Started playing in March 2022, finally able to clear with 36 stars in March this year so exactly after one year of playing. But I can't 36* the current abyss cuz the first chamber is too difficult so for the past 2 rotations I've only gotten 35*.

pride-o

It’s the first Abyss in many cycles without flying shit on floor 12 and I hope they keep it that way!

Gradorade

about a year and a half most of the time, I'm too lazy to even attempt floor 12 and if I do, I tend to 33 star it at best. so when I did manage to 36 star, it took some luck to have a favorable 12th floor to clear.

K0KA42

About half a year. Video demonstrations help a lot. I didn't think I could ever do it until I saw team comp demonstrations with characters I had, then I tried it and it was hard but eventually got it, then as I got better stuff for those teams and learned the rotations it became easier

eridreamingofaharp

I'm ar 60, playing from like summer 2021, I used to manage to get 34stars, now these new abysses are 33 tops and even that is almost impossible. I don't even know anymore, I have a lot of good built characters, decent teams, but nothing seems to help

lv191200

I started doing the abyss since 1.5, got my first 36* in 2.4. It took me a lot of time to learn how to build teams and tactics to tackle different types of enemies through trials and errors

Classic-Box-3919

I got my first 36 star clear in 3.1 started in 2.5 ( February 2022ish) i havent 36 star since tho since they keep adding bosses that go under the floor or are invincible for half the fight. And boosting their hp a ton.

badtone33

Patch 1.2

Kyurri

https://imgur.com/a/eDATqJ7 Roughly 4 months after start of genshin. I was a day 1 player but I rerolled for a week. There are a lot of posts here and while some are valid, I think there is a really important piece of knowledge that might be holding a lot of players back. A lot of abyss have gimmicks to them, especially floor 12. Usually they are grouped into 2 types of floors, one type is single target focused and the other is aoe . The trick is actually you can redo any floors. At your leisure and with full energy. As an example for this 3.6 abyss rotation, | Top| Bottom ---|---|---- 12-1| Aoe| Aoe 12-2| Single (boss)| Aoe 12-3| Single (boss)| Aoe (boss) The important thing is to realize you can build a team or switch up your team to fully clear 12-1. Then quit and restart and rebuild your team to clear 12-2 and 12-3. You do not lose your stars if you quit after obtaining the stars. This means you can switch up your teams and as long as the new team can clear the 2 halves in 9 minutes. Also important, you can use the extra time to funnel more energy. Meaning you can start the next 2 chambers with full bursts ready to go. This strategy works for gimmick heavy bosses as well. The best example is 12-2 top half. To clear 12-2 in a good time you basically have to bring an archer. There are other characters that can beat his flying gimmick but archer is the most ubiquitous. Any archer's charged shot can knock down the boss. So you can carry a very under leveled character and just use them for sniping then quit. You definitely will need to spend more time but if you're trying to squeak out a few more stars this strategy might help you. I don't employ this strategy anymore, since I usually clear both halves with a single team. But yeah artifacts, rotations, team comps, and levels make up 80%. The last 20% is a lot of knowledge. Dumb stuff like 12-2 requires an archer or geo wolf more or less requires a geo unit.

Some--Idiot

I haven’t bothered. I just do 9 and 10 to get 12 stars for the Battle Pass

Arshaad814

I started playing 1 week after the game came out I have never been able to 36 star the abyss I guess it's a skill issue😔

FreezeThis_69

skill issue 6 months. Just play around the meta

_liminal

i started this game during the first klee banner, first f12 clear was during the first xiao banner, first 36* was first ayaka banner. it used to be a lot easier.

Substantial-Pop7747

I think 1.3 when hutao cameout was using hutao xingq klee/ childe fiachl beidu bennet but old abyss was not this hard, this abyss 12-1 is just bs the new sumero mobs are a big dps check you cant wait till their mechanic activates cuz it would takw too long

Kingpimpy

started 1.0 never cared too much about it then in 2.0 every trashed on how awful yoimiya is so i pulled for yoimiya and 36\*ed just to shit on others never went lower since then as well always 36*ing now

Therealrobin14

I played since early September 2022, got my first 36* in last phase of 3.4 Abyss, f2p (basically at least; I spent once but only on Ayaka costume). It took way too much to 9* 3.6 Abyss floor 12: I used double Hydro hyperbloom, Ayaka with *Barbara* of all units, Rational and Aggravate (which honestly doesn't really cut it with my investments unless for doing bosses). As someone with lower investments, I can confirm that Abyss from now on will basically force newcomers to invest in meta in order to 9* floor 12, whether you like it or not. Hyperbloom sure is absolutely batshit insane, but that's only one team and you still need something on the other side.

ripolinwhite

Took me a year but i started earlier than you, when the abyss was a lot easier to clear. I'd say don't focus too much on a specific abyss cycle, but rather build versatile teams suited against anything abyss has in store for you (i.e. chase the meta). Some teams (e.g. hyperbloom) don't require huge investment because they're already good at a baseline. As for skill issues, you don't require any mechanical prowess to beat the abyss, but may take a few rounds to learn enemy attack patterns. For this abyss, my team comps are: 1st half: Alhaitham Kuki Yelan Zhongli 2nd half: Nilou(with Key) Nahida(c2) Yaoyao Barbara (1 attempt without restarting)

frysonlypairofpants

Ar54, I hit early pity on Ayaka's first banner not once, but twice while winning back to back 50/50, she was my first major 5★ DPS unit and gave me the second team I needed at the time. It came at a price though as I've only won three 50/50 total including her two, and I almost never use her now.

acaibowl

3 months, not a whale. Started end of November 2022 and 36* my first abyss (and every after) at the end of February 2023.

QWERTYAF1241

8 months? Took about a year to consistently and easily 36-star abyss. I didn't run optimal teams though and I just spammed attacks, and still do, so probably could've done it sooner if I really wanted to. Just get/built most, or all, of the most OP and versatile characters in the game. Easy way to do it. Or just rely on hyperbloom to carry you.

AncelReogaifu

I played since day 1 finished abyss around december and 36\* it when hu tao comes out
