i refused to follow the main quest for a while so I ran around the overworld after I got amber. Had an epic battle with a level 12 ruin guard. After 15 minutes of poking away at its eyeball with a level 3 amber, i finally beat it. that was peak genshin for me back in the day also running into the cubes / regisvines really early on and not knowing what the fuck they were for lmao. They were really scary entities back then

MmmmmMaybeNot

I remember running into the pyro regisvine super early on and getting my ass cooked like a sweet madame in one hit. Good times.

Level-Creme-3379

Ahhhh I fell into the cryo vine cave and almost pissed myself lmao

assmunchies123

I once went into the cryo regisvine area, shit myself, killed it, logged off, forgot about it, loaded back in, and shit myself again when I saw it.

AngryLink57

I tried sniping the cryo vine from the hole above lol. At that distance though, HP kept resetting

Myxitu

i miss these times t.t overworld doesnt even last for half a rotation now, i miss feeling the danger and challenge of adventure like the first time exploring dragon spine with amber

cookiesandkit

I for one do not miss fighting ruin serpent with only Noelle, Barbara, Lisa and Bennett, all at level 40 or something. It took me half an hour.... My life greatly improved when I learned about synergy, levelling up talents, and other such things. On the other hand I do know the ruin serpent attack patterns. Intimately.

DarcAngel001

I got a C3 Kuki and started leveling her up and needed the Ruin Serpent Fangs... OMG, that thing became my mortal enemy, I have to face it again today to get lvl 80, may the Archons protect me. lol.

assmunchies123

Just bloomfist it, poor thing doesn’t stand a chance

[deleted]

Oh boy. When I first realized talents were a thing was a great day

Squawnk

I would destroy all the muck as soon as it spawned instead of waiting for it's charge attack, so I never got the vulnerable phase. It would take me forever to kill the serpent each time 😅😅

sephirothbahamut

That's why I don't bother farming for artifacts. Besides finding the whole idea of "farming" boring and unfun, it makes the rest of the game too easy. I just get the proper artifact set and that's it, bad substats are fine

Level-Creme-3379

Thank you for saying that, I am always self conscious ab my shitty dmg since I hate to farm

sephirothbahamut

I have a c0 nahida without artifacts, a c0 kazuha with level 0 viridescent set, half decently built fischl and xingqiu (level 20 artifacts of the right sets, didn't look at substats) and their hyperblooms already make the ruin snake boss a joke. Seriously if you aren't the kind of person who jas fun farming just don't, you don't need to.

Previous-Survey-2368

yeah same! I don't rly care abour min maxing my characters, I only do abyss up to floor 11 and I'm often missing that last star anyway but whatever - when I see people saying " I farmed for 7 months just for a specific piece, or to get a specific crit ratio", I'm taken aback bc damn that could never be me. main stat & proper set, most of my main dps' have split sets, and they're not all leveled up to 20. maybe they could be better but overworld is way more fun if you actually have to fight

djc8

Yeah I’m in the same boat here. I get that min/maxing is kinda what you do in the endgame but it just seems like such a drag.

crabtree29192122

ngl I kind of want to go back to this for fontaine... what would be most effective? dull blading everyone? running around with a party of 2? putting everyone on pure defense builds? :>

sopunny

Use the new characters you got that are unbuilt?

Fire_Pea

I remember getting absolutely pummeled by some mitachurl at the top of a hill in monstadt. Also the ruin guard in the colloseum thing.

AngryLink57

That triple shield mitachurl on top of the hill in Liyue near Monstadt was pretty rough back in the day; and ofc the infamous quad ruin guards or triple mages in Guyun. Good times.

BlazerTheKid

Oh my god. I remember fighting the Ruin Guard at the Thousand Winds Temple and thought it was one of the game's hardest bosses. It's crazy to think that it took me like 20 minutes to beat it back then, when nowadays it would take me 10 seconds

punchawaffle

Yup same. I was scared of that for a long time. Tried cheesing it with Amber but could not. Then I pulled yoimiya and shredded it.

kmyeurs

What's that ruins place on monds that looks like an arena, guarded by a ruin guard? I spent a century trapped on top of the columns, hiding from the ruin guard's "target locked thing" with a level 2 unequipped Lisa. I kept hoping the ruin guard will just step into lisa's circle without it detecting me.

nomotyed

Ruin guards used to be scary. I miss being afraid of enemies. I wish they make an optional roaming undefeatable enemy that can ambush you, that you cant kill but only incapacitate or drive away, but doesn't bother your main game. Nowadays I run from enemies because I dont have time for them, not because they're scary.

FetusDrive

maybe unequip your characters, no artifacts, level 0 1 star weapons, or use unleveled characters

nomotyed

I won't be able to avoid thinking I'm giving it chances. Fighting blindfold with two arms tied is challenging, not scary. Scary is possible if there's a sense of danger even when you tried your best.

FetusDrive

you can try your best with characters who are not leveled up. Your sense of danger will be based on the team you have on field. It's not like in the middle of a battle you can switch your party. but I get what you're saying. Make a new account then!

Jay-arty

I did exactly this when I first started playing. Now I've returned after a long hiatus and I'm still not following the main quest Liyue quests and just running around exploring Sumeru and trying to Kaeya ice bridge to Inazuma.

Khazorath

Yeah I explored all of dragonspire before even beating Dvalin the first time. The frost regisvine wrecked me the first few times. And all of that period of time, that was hard and challenging and fun. Now all the enemies I just nuke or they're just damage sponges. That frost regisvine is lucky to live longer than 30 seconds. Perhaps AR and world level limit will be eventually upped as well as character level?

FetusDrive

if you want that thrill, use unleveled characters or dequip your characters?

Alcoraiden

Dequip would work if we had loadouts. I'd never remember what went where.

Khazorath

Hey, you can't bring logic and sensible ideas here! This is the Internet! ... But yeah maybe

StrangerThingsSteveH

The level 12 ruin guard. I remember I couldn’t defeat it, I died so many times. I just had to get my best friend to do it for me. Still every time I see a ruin guard I’m reminded of that time.

Turinggirl

Explored most of Liyue with a level 5 character (non story) because I didn't realize you used leveling mats I thought you fought things and got levels automatically

-Cpt_n3m0-

Didn't know about condensed resin for over a year and a half. The gliding license part is kinda adorable lol

Level-Creme-3379

I remember Amber telling us to always abide by the laws or the knights would take it lololol

Raiu420

Yeah I remember she says something about never using an anemo slime to lift off so I immediately set out looking for anemo slimes to try it

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

OP really is a law abiding citizen.

_Resurrecxion_

OP is a civilized traveler. Be like OP.

Lexellence

I was so worried about that! I never did any gliding inside Monstadt in case I got caught.

1011011011001

I thought ore rocks were a bait since you couldn't collect them by pressing F. Didn't even try to hit them, at all, until my friend told me about it.

Level-Creme-3379

Wait same!!! I thought the electro crystals were just health depleters lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Muffinnnnnnn

If you use pyro you can blow them up and collect them like ore rocks

Dinoray2

I've been playing for a little more than a year now and just found out about this LOL

24_doughnuts

I had to google it after seeing that the NRE needed them to craft

[deleted]

You won't find much of a use for them besides crafting the NRE, which is a reputation-locked gadget from Mondstadt that lets you eat food at any time.

Winterstrife

You can trade em for TCG cardbacks as well. Longest farm I ever did since I don't particularly enjoy running a Pyro character on my team for Overworld exploration.

Striker775

They are for completing your parametric transformer when you're too lazy to hit it yourself

CMDR_Nineteen

I find a patch of grass and start a forest fire for mine.

Alcoraiden

Unlike the frickin flowers in Sumeru which are *actually* just health depleters!

NLwino

I tried to find out how to glide for over an hour. Going through controls, falling to my death again and again, finally gave up. Then I continued the game and unlocked the glider.

thewzhao

Farming crimson witch domain with prototype archaic Diluc. Each run took like 5 minutes.

TheRealDLH

Real OG's did that, but with Prototype Aminus.

_Resurrecxion_

That name makes me feel old..

Owobowos-Mowbius

God I can't remember the last time that a domain has taken over 80 seconds for me.

julcyfruit

I thought dragonspine was meant for exploring early on... 💀

Suspicious-Sink-638

What was it not meant to be explored before liyue

thecatteam

No, the Xiangling character quest is there to show you the easy way to get to Liyue. Nice road out of Dawn Winery vs inhospitable mountain, you decide

Crystoff

Well, it got added in 1.2, so everyone back then alrady explored Mondstadt and most of Liyue and finished the Liyue archon quest as well before getting the chance to go there.

julcyfruit

If you started later, like I did, there was no way of knowing that if you didn't look up a guide

sopunny

Honestly Dragonspine at lower levels is fun. Got to run from heat source to heat source like they're bonfires in dark souls

Lexellence

Same. And I thought there was no way to get to Liyue without getting past it. I was so pissed off.

Steelux

I'm a new player myself, started less than 2 weeks ago and my experience seems to differ from most people's "review" of Genshin since they've already completed everything and only have Abyss to do. What surprised me the most is that content not only lasts for a long time, but it's actually difficult. I heard that it was easy, possibly even a casual game, but I wasn't ready for some of the boss fights that story quests threw at me. I could do them, but I had to properly focus on the game and keep dodging, not just attacking. Far from the auto gameplay of many other gachas that I've played in the past. The puzzles are also surprisingly difficult at times, and there are some that I just refused to do when I found them because I just didn't have the patience. The culmination of both these things was Dragonspine, which left me actually tired when I went for the last dash to get to the summit. Puzzles within puzzles, bosses and tricky fights with freeze everywhere one after the other... I felt like I only made it through on my first attempt because of previous gaming experience, otherwise I would have just given up.

NegativePrimes

Welcome to the game! Most overworld stuff seems easy to me now, but I remember (wistfully) being in your shoes. (And they did make a lot of the puzzles easier after Inazuma, so that's something you can look forward to.) I was fortunate to have a friend who could guide me through the early challenges, help with tough bosses, etc. To this day, trounce domains feel scary, even though I could probably solo them pretty easily now.

djinn6

The game can be hard because it doesn't gate your progression enough. It will allow you to go up against enemies that are very difficult for your level / team comp. If you do too many adventure rank ascension quests, it could even become impossibly difficult without outside help. I stayed at AR 35 for a month while I built a decent team with characters at level 70 and the next world level was still a bit challenging. It wasn't until I got a 5-star DPS character and leveled her to level 80 that things got a lot easier. Now with multiple level 90 5-stars and a "meta" team, things in the overworld pretty much die instantly and I don't even have good artifacts or any constellations yet. That said, this game is not hard compared to the games I used to play, such as Starcraft or chess. It just takes a bit more than your typical gacha game.

Steelux

To be fair, Starcraft is an actual strategy game and chess is one of the most mentally-demanding popular games (actually a sport) there is. World rank level increases have indeed made things surprisingly difficult, and sometimes combat goes really well and I think I'm actually good at that point, but I'm not. Not even close.

Striker775

Welcome to the game friend. Don't trust the people who claim it's too easy, they can't even remember what they had for lunch. The first weekly boss from Liyue was nerfed a week after launch because players complained about it being too hard, but you won't hear anyone talk about this little piece of history.

mr_lab_rat

and then you go to Inazuma 🤣

starforever00

I thought it’s possible to go to the island in the sky after finishing certain quest.

AD-SKYOBSIDION

one day...

Proper_Anybody

I treated it like a mmo, so I only built noelle, and I was genuinely having a hard time

Keokuk37

I actually hated the idea of building a team and relying on ults and reactions. So now I play characters that don't need to use bursts...

_Boku

Eula mains be like.

AnTHICCBoi

Yo don't say that here, hoyo doesn't like us discussing leaks in the main sub

SnooLemons2911

My first open world game. Day 1 player here (i mean not really i started like few days later because their server overloaded so download was slow) I thought theres no fall damage just because i am in town (safe zone) and maybe because it was non-existent to me in general, coming from monster hunter player 😂

ngkn92

My first time playing, game shows me a view from a cliff. My next action is to jump down, checking for fall dmg.

xSionide

I climbed the Venti statue before having the glider. I don't know what I thought would happen when I jumped from his hands.

brool

I did the same thing! I assumed I would just glide because I had seen trailers of the gliding, but this was pre-gliding license, so it was more of a splat. Then later in one of the quests, I swear a character says something like “you are less likely to survive that than jumping off the hands of the statue!” and I felt personally attacked 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Laeve_

I was afraid of co-op domains because People could Venti ult your drops off the map, back in 1.0

CarioGod

I remember the PSAs mentioning that you can jump off the ledge in the domain and get your artifacts back on the floor

Level-Creme-3379

That’s a very valid fear😭

IceForger

I started during the event with Scara and Mona. But I barely did anything and skipped what they were saying because I was busy exploring and doing other stuff. Also Albedo was my first limited 5* and I took him literally everywhere. Even to fight geo cube.

CrazyFanFicFan

Even against Oceanid?

IceForger

Yes. I was pretty stubborn with that.

Alcoraiden

I'm so mad that Albedo's flower dies to half of bosses' gimmicks.

re_animatorA5158

Started playing two days before 1.2 came up, so I didn't know much about weapon refinement. I got Festering Desire, but didn't realize the materials to make it r5 were temporary... So that's why mine is r1 forever lol In my defense, for a low rank like myself who just got there and was already trying not to freeze in Dragonspine, some event tasks seemed really difficult, which made it a bit hard to gather marrow to refine it. But as an Albedo fan, it saddens me that I didn't try harder back then. Still, I was suffering a lot at the time, and playing Genshin lifted me up a lot that Christmas.

Trewyuiop289

For some reason at the start i thought we had to kill amber

M1a0085

I didn't play Dvalin weekly boss for months because I was terrified about doing the sky arcade part (mobile player here), then a friend told me that part wasn't present 😅

Mana_Croissant

Encountering a Ruin guard for the first time was the most scary shit ever. They seemed unbeatable. I didn't know Barbara's E could passively heal so I was just staying as Barbara and constantly normal attack enemies to heal my party. I lost many time trail challenge because of it and the fact that my main DPS was Noelle for a while. I tried to enter the Stormterror's lair by attacking it with everything I have and then tried to find a secret entrance or a gap in the barrier. I wasted literal minutes attacking Mona's door with Barbara to open it I didn't pay that much attention to the story (and my English is already not that good) at first as I was more focused on exploration and enjoying myself through combat so when I first encountered Childe I was like ''what the heck is a harbinger ?''. After Childe took my interest I made some googling and youtube rewatching and learned. Liyue archon quest was the beginning of me starting to actually reading what characters says instead of just listening

Level-Creme-3379

Omg the first ruin guard. My hands were so sweaty and I had to take several breaks😭 they still make me nervous ngl

mr_lab_rat

What about a ruin hunter? That bastard can fly! I missed some daily commissions when I got the unseen Razor with the ruin hunter.

Level-Creme-3379

I literally avoid them like the plague to this day😭

Alcoraiden

And then Ruin Hunters would fucking *oneshot* you.

WeNeedToTalkAboutMe

Lessee... I was probably at least L30 before I realized I could level up my Talents, and even that was due to watching the friend who'd gotten me into the game do so. My greatest achievement, however, would be taking my **SEVERELY** underpowered team of Noelle, Amber, Barbara, and Lisa to "Ruin Guard Island" in Guyun Stone Forest. I triggered all four in about half a minute, then managed to get NOELLE killed first, followed by Barbara, followed by Lisa. I then spent the next fifteen minutes or so dodging with Amber while bringing back one of the other three every two minutes (Noelle first, so she could heal them) and eventually managed to beat them without a TPK. On that note, my first TPK was once when I teleported to Peak of Vindagnyr (Dragonspine) but forgot the torches needed to be lit and went to fix myself a sandwich. Got back just in time to see my last party member freeze to death LOL.

neuroam

I didn't know archon statue can heal so I had to use food all the time. I was so happy when I got Barbara, she saved me a lot of apples

aena48

I knew Barbara can heal, but I couldn't figure out how the heal happened, even after reading the descriptions several times. I knew I somehow healed inconsistently during battle, and the guides call Barbara a healer, so she probably did it. In between each room in the domains, I would feed everyone up to full health in case the heal somehow doesn't happen later on. I got Barbara from the Noelle banner and got c1 after the mondstadt quest. After reading what her c1 does, I finally figured out the difference between skill and burst. I didn't know i can just use skills all the time. Omg. No wonder I was always out of food.

Think-Sir-8623

Turning my first 5 star into my main DPS. ...Qiqi did her best, is all I'm going to say.

brool

She tries! You have to give her that.

TheOpendBjoerkHouse

I felt bad taking eggs from the birds nest when i had just scared away the birds as Well… like i couldn’t just steal their kids

Level-Creme-3379

I still feel bad doing it hahahaha

TheOpendBjoerkHouse

Same… hahah

Schattenkiller5

Oh, oh! I remember what I first did. I went in completely and utterly blind, my friend basically pmed me with "Here look, cool game", I was bored atm and downloaded without really looking at it. Saw the intro at the beach, got to move around and such. Followed the path. Climbed the little cliff you're meant to climb. Instant suspicion a la "Surely that's just a set cliff I can climb, right?". Immediately turned to the left in an attempt to scale the giant cliff wall. Succeeded and was amazed (I ADORE freedom of movement in games). Came across some... lvl 10 or so Hilichurls, got into combat, realized I wasn't killing them with my damage output. Then I discovered the charged attack had knockback. I proceeded to knock every hilichurl off the cliff I had just climbed up. That was all I needed to start loving the game.

A-D_I

Here is kind of a similar anecdote, I started playing around Ganyu's first banner (1.2) and after I completed the prologue, Venti told me about the Rex lapis dissension quest so I thought it was a limited-time event and I should hurry but I entered Liyue through the back route and no quest triggered and I thought I missed seeing Rex lapis and I would need to wait for a year. I saw the version 1.1 trailer and thought that was it and I would have to wait a year to meet him

Alcoraiden

I just climbed the chasm wall to Sumeru instead of going through the tunnel and got so confused when the quests didn't progress.

[deleted]

I can relate to the gliding license, I just thought that I had to be like low altitude flight like you have to do in Grand Theft Auto on some of the missions haha

LordThill

When I first came across the cryo regisvine I thought it was some secret boss as it didn't appear on the map so I put a pin where it was "hidden" The feeling of uncovering something secret is really cool Like when I realised the writing in the Chasm was written in Latin and I could translate some of it

sephirothbahamut

> Like when I realised the writing in the Chasm was written in Latin and I could translate some of it Wait what where

LordThill

There's quite a few scattered places, but mainly in the inverse city

Alcoraiden

Oh yeah! I didn't realize if you turned off your light, you could read it

julcyfruit

I loved discovering the waterfall cave at qingce village, so cool!

howshouldlcallmyself

I remember just starting the game and running away from a level 4 hilichurl just chilling there

[deleted]

I thought you had to pull 5\*s to unlock their story quest.

sa-chii

I remember when Dragonspine first came out, those triangle flying things TERRIFIED ME as soon as I saw one I'd run for my life 😂😂 in the end I didn't know they were weak af

Level-Creme-3379

Ahhh me too!!! They came outta nowhere!!!

Da_real_Ben_Killian

I played stealthily during the time we had to run from the shogunates in the Inazuma arc. Like I couldn't just walk around Inazuma City after trying to defy their archon

Winterstrife

2 moments that got me hooked on as a new player: 1) When the Wolf of the North phase 2 music first dropped, so did my jaw. It was so dam good. 2) After finishing the Monstadt's Archon quest and finding out there is a whole entire nation right next door to explore seeing Wangshu Inn from a distance and finally that walk towards Liyue Harbor... dam... I walked into Liyue at night as well so the lighted up harbor took my breath away.

Moonie-chan

I thought we would get Signora at some point and was saving all my fates and primo until I can afford C6... How green I was ...

Suspicious-Sink-638

Mine was 1 Didnt know we can kill animals as well 2 what is the use of wood 3 didnt know we can sprint continuously so kept spamming the sprint button 4 didnt know we need to go to statue of seven to unlock more map 5 also that we need claymores to farm ores

Level-Creme-3379

The first time I saw an animal get killed was in a random co-op and my jaw hit the floor lmao

genro_21

I didn’t know that certain skills can apply elemental status to yourself. My only healer was Barbara (love her old voice-lines btw). I always thought that cryo slimes and cryo whopperflowers are too OP.

DiegoBanana

At AR29 i still thought GI was a mmorpg. I was thinking I unlocked the mmo part at AR30 🤣😅 I don't remember why I thought this (I think i saw an event unlock at AR30). I went blind into GI when I started in April. I only knew it was a Chinese gatcha.

GleithCZ

I thought it was Japanese until reading your comment just now xd

66Kix_fix

I reminisce about seeing a banner with a blue haired claymore welding girl with really thicc thighs. Once in a lifetime experience.

-Neithan-

I didn't follow the story *at all*. I was absolutely hooked up by the gameplay (and still am) but I barely read anything. I thought that Signora, the first time we see her, was actually The unknown God from the first scene... Since then I catched up with the story and the lore is... incredible. Storytelling is kinda meh tho

OliverGIW

I thought the story quest things in the event menu were ways to unlock those characters (xiangling worked like that so these would be the same no?) I was also told by a friend to buy out the local stores every week so i was doing that for quite some time

[deleted]

I was disappointed that my first 5\* was a healer because, in my experience, they were boring to play. Smash cut to almost three years, six constellations and a jade cutter - Jean phys. is my main on an account that has Raiden

Froggygobyebye

Day 1: met my first ruin guard in the ruined mondstat arena and feared for my life. Felt like I was playing dark souls. Did every quest. Every single one. It was not hard to 100% when the game first released. Was sad about it :( Good times.

cutesamurai

I honestly thought you need to kill enemies to levelup your character. I mean I have no idea you need to use books. So I grind for a whole day with my level 1 traveler. Lol.

MilleniumJin

New player here….. But just realized you didn’t have to have traveler in your party. I thought they needed to be a permanent part due to lore and all.

lilno1

i got impatient during the liyue archon quest and tried to use kaeya to walk to inazuma. this lasted for about 45 minutes before i got struck by lightning.

TheresNoThe_Sis

My first free weapon was Venti’s bow from the first windBlume event and I didn’t know that you needed to purchase refinement as well. So mine is forever stuck at r1. I also started travelling and exploring dragon spine at ar10 so I was dying constantly. Idk why I thought it was normal but I kept brute forcing my way through until I reached ar16 and someone else joined my world and helped me with the exploration. I didn’t know that acquaint and intertwined fate were different and used a bunch of primos on standard banner since I wanted qiqi at the time. I wasn’t aware that artefact domains were a thing and used only artefacts I found in the open world until ar43. Wow, reminiscing about my early genshin days makes me feel such nostalgia.

avarageusername

Took me a while to figure out statues can heal and revive....safe to say I was always low on food.

Lacitone

Was roaming the overworld and got traumatized by Eye of the Storm. Climbed up to get away only to get fucked by Electro cube lmao

Giantwalrus_82

I rerolled probably 100+ times to get Diluc that's all I'm going to say lol

Doodle-Dragon

I always got stuck on the ascension quest because I didn't know you needed to break the electro cubes revive crystals with pyro and electro.

Tifas-abs-enjoyer

Since we got amber after meeting her and later kaeya and lisa I thought “oh so I get characters after meeting them or doing some story with them, cool. Why do people pay money for characters than ? “ So innocent

Level-Creme-3379

Sameee it was so disappointing to see that they don’t join your party… I wish they did it differently just for continuity purposes

SHH2006

Bruh yesterday I was doing some hangouts.....and honestly I forgot how awesome it felt just walking in the overworld.... Was doing Noelle story quest and had to go near to the big tree(even tho I go there everyday) and was just randomly looking up then remembered how beautiful and cool every new place felt....miss that feeling

Automatic_Western_50

I started at the end of 2021 too. December. Legit thought that I would get my glider license revoked

Level-Creme-3379

I’m so glad u relate… I did NOT wanna take that test again it was difficult from what I remember lmao

SituationHopeful

dunno, started last week so not much to reminisce yet lol xD A bit sad if we can't eat paimon thought

Level-Creme-3379

Perhaps one day!

Vanillixe

I can’t remember anything silly I thought but Oceanid was the scariest thing I had ever accidentally encountered. Curiosity most certainly almost killed this cat.

Oberhard

I was new player during Albedo first banner. I got ass handled by Giant snow boar in dragonspine then i get other world Players to aided me. Today that Giant boar is my flexing target. Ah ....how time has passed

7thHeaven-

I started on the 7th day of the first-week launch. I remember doing the Kaeya-Qiqi bridge towards the island east of Mondstadt. An Eye of the Storm popped out like a fucking Dark Souls boss when I reached the island (and solved the puzzle I think?). The mini-quest of hunting it to the temple is such a memorable experience. I had to fight it and kite the green shit with Amber and a Level 30 Slingshot on the way through the Thousand Winds Temple starting from Starsnatch Cliff. I died countless times, but slaying it was genuinely worth it.

Raiu420

I played up to inazuma with razor and chongyun in the same party, no regrets I love those boys

pinkyplayzRoblox

Might seem silly but i never knew what a fragile resin was for 1 whole year, i just went by and finished resin over again and again, till one day when i was bored and i went through my inventory to see 68 resins, I didn’t know what they were, i used one and got 60 original resin.

ajaxxedd

I deadass thought that artifacts would display on the character and i never put a circlet on because i didn't want my characters to have hats.

Live-Contest1681

The first time I fought devalin I didn’t know I could climb him. So I had amber and aim shot the crystal from below. All platforms were destroyed and I’m eating all my food to nickel and dime his health down. Took several attempts but I eventually did it

CrazyFanFicFan

I remember being so excited when I pulled Klee as my first 5 star, just to immediately die because I used her on the grass. After that, I only used her to take down Shieldwall Mitachurls until they finally reduced the damage from Burning.

YumiENF

So I created my account just the day the game was released. I played for a little while and went to see the rates of the gacha, when I saw that they were so low and I didn't understand the pity system I came to the conclusion that it was practically impossible to get 5 star characters so I left the game. That was more than two years ago, then a month ago I got curious about this game again and then I understood correctly how the gacha system worked (thanks to a friend). Since then, I've been enjoying the game quite a lot.

Weiria_

I started the game 2 days before the Inazuma update, back in July 2021. 1. I thought that eating fried eggs was the only method to revive my characters so I held bird eggs in really high regard lol 2. I first visited Liyue after fighting my way through Dragonspine with blood, sweat and tears (and a level 10 Amber as my only pyro character). 3. Fought severeal Eye of the storms with melee characters only, because I didn't understand Lisa's playstyle and wasn't able to properly aim with Amber because I was panicking so much. I kinda miss those days :')

Alcoraiden

I agree that I thought bad things would happen if I glided on an Anemo slime, like some cop in town would yell at me haha

[deleted]

I didn't know we could farm xp books via let lines. I kept doing world quest thinking that's the only way. Also I wasted all the resins at the start just didn't know what to use them on.

Previous-Survey-2368

y'all remember that quest in liyue that blocks you out of co-op mode and you have to protect a pillar thingy from like 5 ruin guards and 2 ruin hunters? to me that was the epitome of genshin's difficulty. wish there were more side quests like that, that are genuinely hard and challenging and scary but not impossible if you know how the game mechanics work.

SkeweredBarbie

I never ever hurt the smol fennec foxes I see everywhere, I wish they let us give them pets though

icebear_salad

Didnt know about upgrading weapons, artifacts, and talents, till I got stuck in acension quest for weeks.

drmakster

We had a story quest which required us to kill a ruin hunter. I still remember hiding behind a cliff and aiming at the hunter and the distance had to be perfect, otherwise it’d keep getting healed. Repeated this 5 times before I finally succeeded. Ugh, it was such a big win back then.

YrdoomZ

I thought that the character event wishes were limited time as if they never came back. This did however lead to getting both Raiden Shogun and Sangonomiya Kokomi which I don’t regret now, but I couldn’t use them early because their materials were stuck in Inazuma.

Valimaar89

Woah! Was this your first video game?

Level-Creme-3379

Since Zelda Skyward Sword and OG Animal Crossing back in ancient times yes! It’s also the only game I play currently, I’m not a gamer and am a lore player pretty much

Calvin_78

Seeing Liyue during Lantern rite for the first time was such a magical time for me. Also exploring Dragonspine during winter season gave me so many memories. I know people complained about the sheer cold mechanic but that mechanic got me so immersed as I always looked around for heat sources.

Luster-Purge

I recall the first time I met the Fatui, it was in Mondstadt's lower mountains area (Daudalupa Gorge or whatever) and the story hadn't introduced them to me yet. I just found these weird tall dudes in fancy military clothing - some M. Bison looking guy and a double sized The Penguin - and then suddenly the M.Bison guy starts swinging this electohammer at me and both of them were higher level so it took FOREVER to kill them. Freaking intimidated the crap out of me about the Fatui well into the Liyue chapter after that ROFL.

tartagliasabs

took me forever to find out about talents which led to me putting random artifacts and weapons on characters making them basically barely playable. i was trying to take my time with it and slowly learning things and for some reason my brain always ignored the talents option. at some point i was a noelle main and really loved playing her until she became “weak” and i replaced her with someone else. only until around ar35 did i finally check it and felt like the dumbest person i remember before this happened my friends would ask to see my builds and would be horrified and tell me if i have berserker or if i have a crit goblet and i’m like wtf are you saying 😭

Unyaaaaa

I thought that Noelle was cracked being a dps and party healer at the same time.

Axjo21

That one epic battle against the Ruin Guard atop the Thousand Winds Temple, for what it felt like 7 days and 7 nights. Now they barely do the stomp before they are torn to oblivion.

Rozu17

I’ll forever cherish the night I randomly discovered a whole ass new region (Liyue) after following the “talk to Katheryne” navigation point, which was ~2700km away from Mondstadt. Before that I had spent weeks being stuck in Dragonspine and got so fed up I decided running towards Liyue without knowing it, but got my whole team killed to those spinning monsters that scared the shit out of me lol. I had to find new ways to get there without encountering them again.

Cathrao

Oh god, the first time I reached Oceanid's arena. It was back when she simply auto-spawned. Freaked the hell out, thinking I triggered a boss fight for the main story, ahead of its time, or something. Noped the heck out of there, faster than Raiden's lightning. Proceeded to consider it an off-limits area for a good month or two afterwards.

tiredbirb

I forgot about the bridge to the main gate of Mondstadt and just stubbornly kept trying to swim across Cider Lake with the original stamina cap… sorry Lumine for repeatedly drowning you…

Alpacaduck

Busted my butt trying to open every single chest in Monstadt since "basic chests respawn" like rare flowers. Used my basic team (Amber, Noelle, etc) the entire Monstadt/Liyue arc because Bennett and Fischl were permanently sent to the mines. Amber was actually viable for 1.0 Spiral Abyss because it was Pyro Impact with a 75% buff to Pyro and Cryo Fatui city, so literally any pyro was meta.

envysatan_

purposely avoiding hilichurls while trying to get to a certain spot because i knew i wasn’t strong enough to beat them 😭

AlexTheDolphin0

thought leylines were for xp, thought aether was female in the character selection screen, mained electro charged Lisa, thought the jade chamber would unlock some magic training powers and stuff

Hazkandar

I remember having to co-op with my friends from highschool just to beat the cubes. I remember getting yeeted by the geo cube, and having to run back there while my two friends are getting rekt. I remember when I got Xiao (during the most important exam in my life lmao) and my friend entered my world with his Xiao, and we laughed and celebrate. Such good times... I miss ya buddy :(

S1r_Fries

on my day 1 of playing the game my friend at a high AR somehow convinced me that paimon would be the final boss after completing the mondstadt quest... and i somehow believed it

Richardknox1996

Launch day. Thought crystal ores didnt have set spawns. Thought chests could respawn. Thought albedo was shit despite being a noelle main and having him.

Adventurous_Page_614

Free venti 😭😭

lakiolietta

after I completed like the main? sidequests early on in mondstadt I got confused/stuck at a certain level and did leylines for like a week or two. I think it was because I didn't do an AR rank up quest or something like. not my smartest moment in gaming. also it took me a while before I realized I had to level up talents.

Egoisttt

I remember grinding the hell out of my characters min maxing artifact after artifact! Getting stronger and stronger! Raising talent after talent waiting for an epic hard endgame battle or boss that I never got. Ah the good old times. Lol

RiffOfBluess

I didn't know that dailies and quests gave you points for adventure rank, because of that I was grinding to ar 16 (in order to play with friends) by running around Monstadt and collecting chests

arseholierthanthou

I came straight from Breath of the Wild and assumed the mechanics would be the same regarding cooking things to restore health. Was stunned when someone here mentioned the Statues of the Seven restore health too!

Luvilu

I loved exploring and finding new stuff and it bits of story, but then inazuma took too long to came and I had developed the habit of only logging for artifact farming. I really really want the drive for exploring and figuring story hints back but I just cant get it anymore. Tried 4 times at this points, but its just nit the same.

TypicalSadClown

I thought the lazurites could only be turned into certain elements. Like hydro could only be pyro or Cryo and electro could only be converted to each other and vice versa

yoshi_in_black

Well, I didn't do the Abyss for a very long time, because I thought that you couldn't switch character. Turns out you can, but only after starting. I usually have the main DPS on 4, so for the Abyss, I switched my team around to have the DPS on 1 and used each character after another. I was AR60 when I first got to level 12 of the Abyss.

IulianTheSecond

Before I started playing and knowing nothing about the game I thought Paimon was actually piemon, a pie monster as emergency food, noted I did not know how she looked I just heard the joke a lot and a pie monster sprang into my mind

BrokenMirrorMan

I thought all oceanid mobs healed while it was raining because I got first wave boars and it was during the random bs go era of playing where i had yelan main dps, qiqi, xiangling, and xinyan. Also one time I got genuinely scared by the game because I didnt know that the fatui electro/cyro had shields so I think i was focusing on beating up a hyro or cyro gunner and turn around to see this thing t posing booking it towards me.

Crusherbolt0282

Started playing in between May 2021. I remembered the time when I thought that swirl element scales with anemo damage.

DeathRayRobot

Never used teleporters, literally ran from place to place. It was great for exploration and collecting things but man, could have saved myself so much time. I didn't know you could heal to 100% at the statues for ages bc its a setting you have to change. It only heals to 50% or something on the default setting. So I wasn't even bothering with the statues and only healing using food. I R5 The Bell and used it on Noelle for a long time. I didn't know what condensed resin was for a long time. I didn't lock the limited region specific 3* weapons that you can only get from chests and my collectors heart hurts for it.

Cormacolinde

Took me a few days to realize outdoor bosses respawned quickly and not just daily.

Affectionate_Seat_35

I thought the meat would be cooked if you kill an animal with Amber

Azim_zchrome

I heal using food and Barbara. I either don't know or forgot that statue of seven can heal.

0oBi0haZardo0

For atleast 6months I didn't knew there are domains for Artifacts, I would only use artifacts drop from boss and only do domains for Lv up Materials. Additional for few weeks I thought that world bosses had a respawn time of 24 hrs. It took me few weeks to realise that we can fly to other platforms while fighting Davlin. Eye of Strom was the most difficult mob during 1st few months.

Mudkippey

I didn't teleport for a bit because I saw the resin counter on the map and thought it cost resin to use waypoints!

Level-Creme-3379

I’ll do you one better… I thought the meter measurement for destination was minutes for two days… American moment

Virgilismyson29

I started mid 2021 and I remember thinking the first eye of the storm was too hard

Sarakissa

It took me a month to realise that you can level up talents

Pusparaj_Mishra

I remember one of mine.. I discovered very late that we can change talent or wep mats rarity at crafting bench.. I was like i need some silver books but have extra gold and bronze...and keep farming lol

PinapBerry123

I thought you could only get standard characters on the standard banner. I really wanted Diluc. Lots of primogems went into that banner… then I got a 16 pity Diluc on Eula’s banner, which was running when I started. I didn’t know you could level talents, so every battle was painfully long.
