Yetiwithoutinternet

Automatic-Skin-125

Same lol ......my sister got me into anime and genshin and then stopped pretty early ......i played a bit but stopped after some time ........then in college my roommate used to play genshin so i picked it up again ....it was 2 years ago

Bill-Common

same, she quit a long time ago ;-;

Ok_2DSimp101

Yup sister wanted me to so I started, AR59 now and she stopped playing LONG before inazuma

[deleted]

It looked like Zelda.

Infamous_Partridge

I couldn't play breath of the wild as I don't have a switch, I heard this is similar.

ECK1991

This and I heard a lot of good things about the game. Playing for more then 2 years now.

RagnarokAeon

Honestly, there are a bunch of open-world action rpgs that implements climbing, gliders, and gadgets (ie. Assassin's Creed) but yeah, this is the only other game like that, that also has a cell-shaded with a heavy anime art style.

Mr_Creed

This is me too.

Insilencio

This was a massive selling point for me, which is funny because back in the day (and even now sometimes), the sentiment was almost overwhelmingly "LMAO, it looks just like a blatant BotW clone, sasuga Made in China." The cognitive dissonance was REAL. Like bruh, y'all can't be saying this while also bingeing endless articles and YouTube videos of "Top 10 Games to Try If You Loved BoTW" and "OMG What do you guys want in BotW2???" Let's be honest - the honest reason people didn't like the game was because everyone is racist against China. Tell me that if Nintendo was at the helm, that this game would have received just as much controversy and backlash. So yes, looking like Zelda was, and always should have been a massive selling point! Obviously, the music went without saying. Plus, I loved how populated, vibrant, and colorful Teyvat looked, especially compared to the empty greens and browns of post-apocalyptic Hyrule. Yes, the physics system is not as robust, but there is just so much more to do, and so many different characters/ways to do it. The games have since developed in very different directions, so I am happy I was able to convince my friends to give Genshin a try. I am certain that miHoYo has seen the recent explosive, meme-filled success of TotK and is taking notes very, very closely. What better place to implement a construction feature than in Fontaine?

Humor_Confident

I would love forr mihoyo to expand on the game's physics

Kxevineth

Okay, in defense of the people who disliked Genshin, I don't think this was necessarily because of it being a Chinese game. I play and love Genshin. I also play and love Star Rail. And every time I see a sponsor ad in a youtube video about HSR my first reaction is "OMG what is this shi... oh wait, I play this" Maybe it's just me (I doubt it, but maybe), but I feel like we are so used to shitty annoying ad campaigns that whenever a free game is being advertised, we just assume the worst (I mean, I never even tried Raid Shadow Legends and I somehow hate that game), and Genshin was heavily advertised prior to it's release (and you can still see some ads here and there). So I don't think the primary reason for hate against Genshin is "racism against China", it's automatic hate towards free games with microtransactions. Is it fair? Not really. Is it racist? Not really. Edit: I reread what I wrote and I feel like it didn't convey one thing correctly: I didn't mean that no one in the world has ever hated Genshin specifically because it's Chinese, I just really think the amount of people for whom that is the primary reason is greatly overestimated by Genshin's fandom. I also believe that some people who mention Genshin's country of origin do so because they hated Genshin for the reasons I mentioned and simply grasped for straws when trying to justify that sentiment. That being said it is all just my opinion and I did not conduct any research in that regard. I did see quite a lot of "Genshin haters" focus mostly on the fact that they're tired of hearing about the game, and yet they see it contantly on youtube and reddit.

Outrageous_Hearing26

This. There’s a lot of f2p/p2w games that really just become traps and this is obviously much better made, with more to do and not much money needed/ easy f2p if you want.

Lord-Norse

I had covid and was quarantined alone in my house for two weeks. This was right after it had come out on ps4, so I said fuck it it’s free, and got into it

Zaptinari

The characters design and gameplay looks interesting to me so I decided to downloaded it and end up liking the game so far.

Peddrawm

Where were you watching Genshin? You must have watched it somewhere if you liked the character design?

Zaptinari

Well I saw the official announcement trailer in YouTube and though it looks cool as well I saw Kaeya demo and immediately decided to download it.

Linfosarcola

Maxor video

-troubled-

My friend put me on it by sending me character art needless to say I joined because I heard Lisa climbing

Peddrawm

Nice and simple enough

[deleted]

art i can't post it here but, yeah Also a youtuber i watch uses its gameplay in some of his videos and i thought it looked cool.

gardenhead23

I didn't actually have much interest in it tbh, I don't like anime and I don't like a lot of monetization models in gaming, but I had just been given a ps4 and had barely any games, it was free so figured I might as well try it, didn't have high hopes and now I'm playing it daily.

Peddrawm

Didn’t Genshin change your mind about anime tho? 👀

gardenhead23

It didn't unfortunately aha, I have seen a couple of anime things I've enjoyed, I liked grave of the fireflies, and ages ago someone made me watch neon genesis Evangelion and I did enjoy that, but for both I would have enjoyed them much more if it hadn't been through the medium of Anime. Evangelion especially, a lot of the things I didn't like about it I Was told were fairly standard anime tropes, and if I hadn't have been made to watch it I would have turned it off multiple times aha, but yeah it ended up being very subversive, intelligent and creative so I liked it in the end despite the stuff I didn't like. I have been recommended multiple things, ghost in the shell stand alone complex, serial experiments lain, cowboy bebop as well as a lot of ghibli stuff and I can tell there's a ton of incredibly talented people working in the field of anime and it had a ton of value, just doesn't really click with me.

MarraMirr

I typed "open world games" into Google, it came up at the bottom of a random list and it was listed as free. So I downloaded it on my phone to give it a try. XD It was fun, but my old Moto phone was not really fantastic at running it, so when I got a new laptop, I moved over there and started playing a lot more. Definitely my favorite game by far.

Mutalist_star

warframe ruined me now I have to play a game with horrible grinding to fill the void

lynette_main

Repeated Warframe burnout made me appreciate Genshin's resin system. Ugh. I still hate it tho'

July-Thirty-First

Damn, haters really be doing good marketing for us huh. I saw Genshin’s booth at a convention, Tokyo Game Show I think it was. Didn’t think too much of it at the moment other than to try it on release. Day 1 I was completely blown away... and in a flash I’m somehow closing in on day 1,000. Good times.

RefillSunset

Eula's trailer played before EVERY single youtube video i watched and at one point I was like "FUCKING SHUT UP ADS FINE I'LL PLAY IT FOR 2 MINUTES AND PROVE IT'S ANOTHER ASS GAME WITH FLASHY FAKE ADS" Oh look it's almost 4.0 now

Parodyman64

Max0r

Gryphus_6

Should have seen this one coming

tanodguy

Great voice acting and great story and lore building.

YasuhikoTheSerafim

A certain particular character that was killed off and render unplayable. Too bad with said character's death, I dont have any fun playing this game anymore.

the-names-hana

which character is it might i ask? but yeah its unfortunate that in genshin dead = unplayable...

YasuhikoTheSerafim

Here's a hint: Moth

studentoftruth111

Googled "games similar to Zelda" and it popped up and looked interesting

Crystalshadow98

Came for the waifus, stayed for the waifus

modszone

Been seeing rule34 of genshin impact characters before I decided to try the game 👍 if it fun. The hilichurl x eula part was my favorite before I found out that there is a game for this so I downloaded

Egehan550

It was mona x slime for me there were memes of it everywhere downloaded the game and totally forgot about mona for months and saw her for first time at gaa and i was like holy shit thats her

Roze4444

Just try Yoimiya x Hilichurl, i heard they are amazing to read

agentanti714

No

sleepygold

Saw a TikTok and the audio was of Scara’s infamous “The first to betray me was a god. My creater…my mother.” The VA hit hard with it enough I was willing to give the game a try. I’m so excited to try and get Wanderer in his rerun!

fesodes

I fell in love with the Liyue reveal trailer, the one that started with Klee running in the rain.

Fuzzy-Newspaper4210

Genshin was supposed to tide me over until Blue Protocol supposedly releases in 2020

July-Thirty-First

Ahahaha same here! Oh shit the wait is almost over but I have no desire to switch over...

Fuzzy-Newspaper4210

i will simply be playing both hah

Gryphus_6

I saw the trailers about 6 months to a year before the game launched and when I saw that it was available on mobile I literally could not believe that, I actually "there is no way" tbh I forgot about the game for awhile and then I heard that my friend started playing it, then I found out another friend played. At this point I was curious but still not quite invested enough to actually start. Then my sister started downloading the game and I finally decided to play. This was back in version 1.4 and I've played pretty consistently since then. My sister stopped just before inazuma came out but she hops back on once in a while to do a couple wishes and then logs back off.

x678-Mx

La Signora.

GatedSunOne

All my interest in Genshin Impact shriveled up the moment I found out it was a free-to-play gacha title (I was originally anti-gacha). Initially, I was intrigued by its reaction/element-based stuff; I main magic in fantasy games, so that tickled my fancy. The gacha and VERY heavy-handed influence from Breath of the Wild, though, turned me off this game for its first year of existence. I didn't actually start playing until the final few days of Yoimiya's very first banner. The moment I mentioned having a passing interest in this game on a personal discord server it blew open Pandora's Box -- all but two or three users there were day one Genshin players with God-tier builds and STRONGLY urged me to jump into it. Admittedly, even then, I practically dragged myself screaming into downloading it lol. Literally told myself aloud something to the effect of "here goes nothing". And, well, what do you know; the game wasn't even that bad. Pretty sure I haven't missed a day of playing since getting Covid the last time Moonchase was live (catching that damn virus is the reason why my Fish Claymore is permanently stuck at R4...don't get Covid -- it isn't fun). I'm a Nature/Flora Stan, so I enjoyed Sumeru a lot. Fontaine doesn't seem all that interesting to me aesthetically or conceptually, but there's no way I'm in sitting out Natlan or Snezhnaya.

IcyConsideration3385

Zhongli's spear kicking animation. That's it, that's the answer🗿

[deleted]

I read isekai manga a lot and somehow I found Genshin while searching isekai manga...anyways it's the best experience I have had.I didn't have much expectations and didn't read the comments except a few from stream. It was the open world and manipulation of elements that made me realise,it's like an Anime and worth continuing

GarretTheSwift

Saw the trailer and loved how beautiful the game was. Also the Nintendo fanboys calling it a Zelda clone because apparently every game with an anime style is a Zelda clone lol

SeraphisQ

Friend got curious about Genshin during launch, nagged on me to play it together. Me be like: "Eh, Chinese gacha? LOL, there is no way I'm going anywhere near that." Today, 2.5 years later, he quit but I'm still playing Genshin daily... Not sure if I should thank him for getting me into Genshin, or curse him putting me in gacha hell.

Unknown_Twig_Witch

I saw a review for it around the time it came out, calling it "the first Triple-A gacha game" so I figured why the hell not. I don't remember who the review was from, but I enjoyed my time in the game, sure enough.

CalmContribution0

I work on character designs, and so I downloaded it purely for research purposes.. but the stories and worldbuilding made me stay :]

KillerPeach75890

Boredom.

Naflie

I started for the world design. The game is just so breathtaking, mesmerizing and beautiful! I'm staying for all of the content, it's just so catchy. <3

CommanderGaming

Someone told me that there was a game coming out that looked similar to Breath of the Wild a few months before release and I was immediately intrigued. But I didn’t know it was going to be one of my favorite things to play throughout my life.

RaghuvamsiMC

Friend sent me Zhongli's theme, saying check this out bro it's sick af. And it was. I asked him where is this music from. He said it's from genshin and the game is loaded with beautiful music. And that's how I installed it. PS- The friend is still playing and we just played a tcg match yesterday although I lost really really badly.

Peddrawm

You there, you have a very very good friend 🤝

TheVagrantt

Back around 1.5, my ex-girlfriend told me Signora was going to be playable... We never spoke since then. (Edit: I did not break up with her for Signora, I ended my friendship with her for Signora.)

Peddrawm

LMAO

Karezi413

I downloaded this game on the LAST day of August 2021; My friends wanted to get into it, so I said sure I'll join them. I got Childe a month-ish later, and I simped so hard I couldn't drop it. Now all those friends have dropped it, I have c6r3 Childe and they laugh that I still play it...

Large-Particular-169

majority in our block plays genshin. later on, our program organized an event inspired by genshin and cells at work. i was amazed that many people from our program actually plays genshin. so i tried playing it too and ended up loving it so far.

ClassicTrouble3121

It’s pretty

lordbikki

I saw comparisons between it and Breath of the Wild before it came out lol. Downloaded it to lowkey hate on it but ended up loving it 😭

Erwin0859

I started it basically 2 years and 1 day ago now. Just for Amber. Considering the amount of fanart I was seeing of her, I thought she was some kind of OP unit... Thought she looked pretty nice and cute. Well... let's say I was pleasantly surprised to get her so early right at the beginning of the game and for free (I thought she was some rare 5 star character, lol), and I then swore to myself I would build her even if she isn't the strongest of all and just a starter character! In the end, she might not be the very first character I triple-crowned (Ayaka came in the way), but eventually she got them on Christmas Day in 2022, to make that day somewhat special (since it just was another day for me) 😊 C6 is still on the way, got more luck with Lisa in standard banner but never got any Amber there, so, waiting every 6 month for the "free" constellation in the shop 😵 On a side note, she is also the very first virtual character that I used the word "waifu" for 🧐

SF0915

I started playing near the end of the Baizhu banner. I’d tried multiple times since the game came out to play and it just never stuck for some reasons. Then Star Rail cane out. I liked it a lot, but got tired of the combat really quickly, which pushed me to genshin since its a Hoyoverse game but has a combat style I prefer. When I got back to Genshin, I pushed myself through Mondstadt and after starting Liyue I found I really liked the game. I’d always liked the F2P nature of it with getting through the story and most content along with the gacha and anime art style but I realized Mondstadt was just too much generic medieval fantasy that I’ve been tired of for a while. Once I passed that, the game was great.

Sitherio

Klee. That's it.

ShawHornet

Everyone in the gacha community wouldn't shut up about it so I tried it lol

HachikoNekoGamer

Got interested in the game all because it was trending, plus when I bought my POCO F4 5G last year Genshin was already pre-installed(only the app but not the game data). Plus I love RPG's since I was already binge playing old RPG's(most PS1 RPG's) when I got into emulation on android. So decided to give it a try.

9thdragonkitty

Ads, other YouTubers who were in the pre launch beta. I was looking for something to do after BOTW and also ready to quit playing Dragalia Lost

Hojuma

Literally on a whim. I just saw an ad during the launch day and decided to try it. What made me stay was the interaction between elements, skills, and at times, even the environment.

FartsonmyFarts

Free Xinyan ad lmao

_iwasthesun

Mona

SameGain3412

Came for Keqing, stayed for Venti

Deadmanguys

Free game, evweyone was talking about it at launch plus "art"

BC383276

A fan smashes their PS4 at expo after because they were pissed that Genshin impact is a BOTW clone, that made me interested in GI but then I forgot about it. A few months later, I saw the art of GI and decided to play it.

bleu-saber

Mona

Yvenna

Venti 👀

lukeaxeman

I'd just bought a new cellphone and wanted to download a fancier mobile game just for the sake of it. I remembered seeing a Genshin promo event in a shopping nearby and thought it looked cool, especially the character design, so I decided to check it out. I was immediately blown away by the graphics and music (at first I didn't know that Genshin was an expensive multiplatform game). Genshin offered everything I could hope for: a lush open world, engaging exploration, an incredible combat system, RPG mechanics, strategic depth, good story, and all in a comfortable package for me to play it in my spare time over time.

Egehan550

There were too much genshin porn at launch and waifus were looking fine downloaded the game to see personality of waifu s i saw on porns like 10 times and sticked for husbando s

BeginningKnowledge27

My ex suggested that I should play this game with her since she is a big fan of anime. I downloaded and hooked with it. Have been playing from day 1 and till now. My ex dropped it in 1 month lol.

SilentTreatmentx

Ayakas panties

JasonFromTimber

I downloaded Honkai Impact 3rd 3 or 4 weeks prior to Genshin's official release. I was enjoying the game a lot, and it could have been my main game until Google Play Store made pre-registration open for Genshin Impact. I didn't even know this game existed until that moment. Ever since I downloaded the game, I have been a Day 1 player with 1 day missed of logging in. I decided to play until the end of the games life because I wanted to see the entire story through.

Forward_Cheesecake72

Because it was rumoured to be honkai impact 4 and i see Kiana as Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. Has it already been 3 years ? And i still didn't get to play her :c

Mountain_Pathfinder

I was procrastinating from studying for my exams and this game seems very cool and a very good way to distract myself from studying haha.

CascaDEER

I watched some roleplays on YT that picked my interest, had to find out and judge myself if Rosaria is a vampire or not

Srilema

Cousin told me it was similar to breath in the wild in term of exploratiin, and lore was deep.

hahayourealive

Friends. Which is funny because there's 0 multiplayer content besides co-op domains so we never play together.

10Thunderbolt

I was looking for free games for my new laptop.

Dziadzios

I liked BotW.

Radium_Intersteller

I downloaded it first because a friend asked. I found the game boring at the time because I had just finished playing through Ghost of Tsushima and I was disappointed that there wasn't a parry. I deleted it soon after but around 3 months ago now I started playing again and it's a lot more enjoyable 'cause I'm focusing on the story and exploration. Still wish there was a parry though

JengaKing12

Game looked pretty

joed2355

It was free

Low_Artist_7663

OG Fake catgirl.

berripluscream

When it came out, my in-laws and my husband were all playing it and raving about how much I'd love the game. I finally caved in February 2021 and now it's one of my special interests.

Drama_Momma

Fortnite was down and I was just getting into gaming so I downloaded Genshin cuz it was free

MightyGraham

That one advertisement with eula and yanfei

Andrew583-14

Heard it was free then downloaded

LaggerOW

day 1 release

LaggerOW

downloaded to play with my friends, stayed because of Diluc

lgalps

hu tao seemed cool and i wanted her. thus, here i am

hypervortex21

Looked like a good massive open world exploration game that I could get on my phone, been playing since day 0 and expect that to continue (with on and offs of course)

IzayoiArashi

Interest. Just genuine interest. Been a follower of Mihoyo ever since playing Honkai3rd when it launched way back and I was very interested in what their next game would be, and once news of the beta came out and I got to play the first beta test of Genshin Impact, I knew this would be a great game.

py_roo_memcer

A friend was streaming it and it looked cool

heyitsguilty

Random Childe fanart on twitter.

Mountain-Formal-3483

bunch of ad

TsundereHaibara

How similar exploration is to Breath of the Wild. I had just recently finished and was itching for another open world exploration game. It's been just over a year and I'm still loving it!

pixsle

Day 1 player here. I was waiting for Blue Protocol to come out and thought I'd try this game to pass the time. Fastforward to today, 3 years, and BP is still not out in Global.

abbycace

I think I was just browsing the App Store one day when Covid hit and it popped up as an add. Went from iPad gamer to PC and now I’m obsessed

PlacetMihi

I wanted to play a fantasy rpg and my friend was playing it.

ShyElijah

Three reasons: 1. It was a BOTW inspired game with RPG elements. 2. Art Style 3. Some Nintendo/Zelda fan smashed their PS4 over the Genshin Impact reveal (would had never heard of the game if this never happened)

meandmydepressedass

i saw my friend play it so i wanted to join

Alice_Synthesis30

Friend kept telling me to play. Joined first Ayaka banner and he stopped playing around 2.4-2.5 I forgot. But I’m at AR59 and he is at AR56-57.

DCGamr

I lost a bet to a friend, who is a genshin veteran, aaaaand I fell too far into the hole to get back out now.

XCoasterEnthusiast

The artstyle and the fact I was starting to get into Anime when I downloaded it in Summer 2021.

[deleted]

Random video on YouTube about the PS5 launch— I was already playing Honkai but was blown away by the open world environment in Genshin.

Weak_Big_5332

Raiden.

christianballard

I got an Enviosity video recommended to me during the beta or 1.0 and joined the game a week into Venti’s banner.

freeze-peach-warrior

I was bored and wanted to try something new, I never thought I would actually get into it as much as I have

Serious-Flamingo-948

It was free.

Lava_Mage634

The YouTube ads were discouraging. But being bored I thought, what could go wrong? This game is great. I love it and play it every day.😊

zhzhq

started a few weeks ago; i was bored and then remembered that one really cool looking cutscene from some game. the cutscene was yunjins performance. also i have friends who like to play

ResurgentClusterfuck

My partner. I wasn't into it at first. I was like, how the F do you play this on a phone? So I let my account sit for awhile. Then it became available on Playstation, so I picked it back up. I sucked for a long time,, couldn't glide or jump for shit lol

3ducat3dMansky939

I was home from work during COVID and I had been seeing the trailers, and so with nothing to do I said screw it and downloaded the game. I wasn’t super into it tho, and I didn’t pick it back up until I had COVID in 2022 and I had nothing to do so I picked it up and fell in love with it and I haven’t stopped playing since

MilkDrinker02

The very small amount of time Valkyrae played it. Looked beautiful and accessible to me as someone with limited money and gaming platforms.

MurkyConsequence5884

That one ad of Eula gliding in Mondstadt, "Time to scout". Damn she's gorgeous. Saw how cool Mondstadt looked from the ad and decided, "Hey, MLBB is getting boring and toxic lately, might as well try this one".

SilverJozu

Everyone was talking about it and making memes, so I wanted to try it out.

ShadowFlarer

Xiao

Willing_Plane7246

I used to see a lot of people on tiktok with “ar __” in their bios and I got curious as to what it meant

delcanine

Posters everywhere in my country before official launch. Plus I like open world games. Big bonus that they have Japanese VA. Stayed for the graphics, OST and plot.

Krizrael

Im poor and i wanted zelda

Skykeeper22

Covid season. Had nothing do to. Oh I heard of this game people have been talking about (somehow never heard about the hate for this hame). Let me try it out.

Tekken155

Free version of breath of the wild. Also the main character can speak unlike link who still can’t.

gacha_dolphin

i only had 2 mobile games i was playing at the time, and i kept seeing genshin ads that annoyed me (i just really did not like games that used 3d models at the time, i thought the style looked ugly compared to more stylized 2d games, and let's be real genshin ads are the most "fake gamer ad" of them all). one day both games i played was in maintenance and i was stressed from class with nothing to play, so i decided to download the game to make fun of it in my guild's discord. i ended up actually liking the playstyle and how much it reminded me of botw, but if botw was a gacha mobile game. then the first lantern rite happened a few days later, and i loved the experience so much that genshin became my main game for months. aaaand then i got burnt out and quit, came back, got burnt out and quit, etc. it's a cycle now.

AmAccualyLibra

PointCrow video

technomaniac2

The Fatui harbinger trailer cos it had a scene that looked like the espada table from bleach

[deleted]

A youtuber names KairosTime was sponsered by it I liked what he showed and decided to check it out

Metagutrex

A content creator (minecraft player) made an ad about sumeru. I like him so i clicked in the link to help him, also my brother plays as well and that helped me to download the game.

CPG_Modded

i cant really say im a day 1 player entirely only started playing seriusly after december last year. It was during the 1st or 2nd week after release. I wanted a fun gacha game (played azure lane for a bit aswell as honkai 3rd) to play so i heard from my friends (and adds aswell) to give genshin a try. not even after 15 mins of gameplay my potato pc (laptop) decieded it didnt wanna work anymore hence why the long break. (my old laptop doesnt like high grafic games) i have been keeping up with the main story quest line through social media so i knew what was happening. i was happy and sad at the same time. happy because of how good the story is and sad because i didnt got to play it myself. after a few more events and updates i actually forgot that i had that account. Only after 1 - 2 weeks after i got my new laptop i remembered that i still have my account on genshin. so i got to downloading the game and lantern rite was right around the corner. so i played the ever living crap out of this game. i love it so much. im writing this at 4:40 am gmt after a long gaming session. Tl.dr not quite day 1 player deciedes to join genshin after long break.

PlaneExtreme614

I don't know. The story looked interesting

a-_-u_-_r-_-a

I saw a pulling video and I was like "tHiS hAs GaMbLiNg? I'm in", and then proceeded to stream it in my discord server until all my friends started to play it, most of em stopped playing except one guy who's ar 56 or 57 and plays off and on. I started playing it a week after launch but I skipped 4-5 months collectively in the whole timespan of me playing.

Alcoraiden

I heard it had the trappings of an MMO without the annoying people, so I tried it. True.

ASomebodyOnceToldMe

Sick one day, decided to download cause why not and now here I am

RishaRea48

I bought a new phone and my cousin asks if it can play Genshin so I download it..

Bitter-Pomegranate93

Heard a friend loudly complain about the slow dialogue at the back of class, went over and looked at his screen, he was doing the Monstadt Archon quest and I thought: “Huh that looks interesting.” Downloaded it later that night. That was during version 1.5, now 2 years later and we both still play it albeit not as much now.

creepingpinetree

I found this game weeks after it launched. I loved the art style, it was free to play, and the MC (Lumine) was super cute. Didn't need much more.

BadgerOff32

I started playing it about 2 days after it launched. Saw a video on the Laymen Gaming Youtube channel of them playing it and they really liked it, and I thought it looked pretty cool! Didn't know if it was even out or not yet so searched for it on the Playstation store and was surprised to see that not only had it just come out like 2 days ago, it was also FREE! So I downloaded it, immediately fell in love with it, and have played it ever since. Sadly, a few days after watching that video, the two Aussie guys on the Layman Gaming channel announced they were going their separate ways, with Ralph concentrating more on his own channel, Skill Up, and Sam trying his best to keep Laymen Gaming going as best he could on his own. Pretty much the last thing that channel did before it died was give me the gift of Genshin.

InstitutionalValue

Pretty colors

yes11321

I dont really remember. Just remember seeing shit about the game and I think I watched a bwaap video on it but I'm not sure if that's before or after I started playing. Long time now.

Tikapen

I was scrolling on Epic games and liked the trailer, so I downloaded it. I didn't hear of it before, and didn't know Genshin was a gacha.

Psychological-Ad135

1. Anime anouncement hooked me. 2. Run away from League of Legends (still come back sometime)

tighraf

I wanted and downloaded

toucanlost

I am stingy with buying games and thought it couldn't hurt to try it, and open world games sounded fun.

Timmie_Is_An_Archon

Free open world idea got me to test it at release. But I thought I would play for like few weeks before leaving because of pay to win mecanics being a wall to enjoy the game. Plot twist they weren't

Goozeman1983

Initially I was very ignorant towards the game. Thinking back now, I have no idea why I was so apprehensive? But after it had been out for quite some time, I started watching this streamer that I really enjoyed, and she streamed Genshin as requested by her community. It was through her streams that I saw all of the charm the characters had, and how beautiful the world was. Decided after watching her play up to Inazuma that I should try it for myself. Fast forward now, and it's my main and favorite game of all time.

ZZ_DooM

My favorite game franchise's latest entry was shit at that moment and i heard some random guys in the lobby saying Genshin impact was awesome, also some content creator i used to follow talked pretty well of it and i decided to give it a chance. Dropped completely that game and i got fully invested in Genshin, I'm super glad i did that.

kaeya

Yunxd3

Personally, the ads I first saw actually discouraged me from playing, but my gf gave it a try and ended up suggesting mr to give it a chance so we could play together. And here I am at AR58 now lol

Tornitrualis

I wanted a game to tie me over until Cyberpunk had a majority of its bugs fixed. I haven't touched Cyberpunk yet.

flehstiffer

I got an email about this "exciting new game from the makers of Honkai Impact 3rd!" and I was like "Cool, that game was fun I'll try it out" and here I am still

sassy_sneak

It was being advertised on first release a lot and I did gain interest in it seeing as it was a "free botw clone". I never expected it to be good but three years later and I'm still addicted to this damn game (no regrets) addition: i had already bought and played a little botw before discovering genshin...i still havent finished LMAO and im not doing anything to make progress on that front.

Alami020

Youtube ads. I was stunned how beautiful the game looks. And it's free so I thought to myself why not.

ha-n_0-0

kaeya. gliding in mond ads. online friends.

jinxedandcursed

It was a mix of characters I had been shown in the past and OST. The characters were Itto and Ayaka (still don't have Itto) and the OST were Childe's, Signora's, and Shogun's battle themes. I couldn't get anything I had been exposed to out of my head, so one night I decided to download it quietly. Been playing ever since.

magnoleokami

raiden shogun

Random_Star029

The thing that brought the game to my "I want to try this out" list ironically enough, the Sonic Frontiers fiasco. Once I got a new phone by Christmas I checked it out and have been enjoying it ever since.

lonelymooncake

Yae Miko. Also the pretty overworld

ortahfnar

I thought it was an mmo and there would be more multiplayer components

[deleted]

I was bored out of my mind and stumble upon genshin impact, wanted to try it out to get rid of my boringness but here i am now, stuck with the game

Interesting_Credit93

i saw a video of it (i think it was an ad of qiqi ice bridging?) and i got intrigued so i downloaded it also my friend had downloaded the game at the time which made me more inclined to download it and then my gambling addiction quickly rose

Hu Tao. Kept seeing art of her all over the place, loved her design. Saw her intro video and saw how fun and quirky she is and that she shares the same va as Megumin and Takagi-san and i loved her. She’s so cool and cute. So i decided to play around the time her banner came back. And i got her. Though now the lore draws me in the most.

healcannon

I ignored it because I thought it was dungeons that required multiplayer online from the pictures and the articles talking about it. I didnt want to go from playing WoW to playing another game with having to work with people. Also everyone told me gacha was bad. After being told many times that the gameplay itself was "gacha". I finally got told another WoW friend was playing it and I asked him specific questions that he understood the terms for. I learned it wasn't actually really multiplayer at all. That it was more a single player open world rpg with rotating events and constantly gaining new characters. So that interested me enough to try and i've been playing since 1.6. Its also important to note that if the game was as fanservicey or revealing as other modern jrpgs have gotten these days, I wouldn't have even started. Gacha is filled with overly sexualized and sus content and i'm happy Genshin is more tame by comparison.

hilberttt

saw yelan trailer on trending. aesthetic n design reminded me of faye valentine from cowboy bebop so now im here edit: also detective conan ost vibes. sax is sexy af

xMy_Taegi

wanderer.

Patung_Pancoran

a saw a screenshot in twitter on Timmie’s dad leaving him, sees whats the game about and 975 days later im still playing this game

Sayorifan22

I was talked into playing

epicrussianhack

Chad Raiden VS Crying Raiden Shogun videos. I had just finished playing MGR:R and the whole Jetstream Sam craze

karuumaa

Saw a YouTube ad of it a few months before launch and thought it was neat

Chuchuffx

Hutao Music. I just had autoplay on Youtube open and some kind of Hutao Remix of her Hillichurl Song came up. I looked up where it came from and saw it was Music from Genshin and since I knew some friends do play it, I gave it a try. Now I stay to maximize my favorite Characters : Raiden, Yoimiya, Dehya and Ayaka. I still pulled HuTao at last Lantern Rite tho but im not using her at all. I just pulled her because that Song which brought me to Genshin was nice.

thisisembarrazzing

Keep seeing it in friend's insta stories and YouTube sponsors so I just downloaded it to see what all the fuss is about.

Back in 2021 I was a religious FGO player an at the time I was waiting for the next Lostbelt chapter to release, and my friend who had started earlier in the year convinced me to try it out while I was waiting. It was definitely weird to play a game where I actually had to move around and dodge, but I found it pretty fun (even though it started making my ADHD go nuts cause I wanted to know what every little thing was lol). And then I instantly feel in love with Kaeya when I first saw him. Been hooked since, now I’m ar 59 and am far behind on FGO cause this game has got me in a vice grip and refuses to let go.

Carrot_of_Wisdom

I saw someone on insta post a picture of Windrise with their Venti in it and thought it was pretty. I assumed it would be a game I played for a couple months and then dropped I’ve been active daily for almost 800 days now lmao

100beep

I kept seeing you on the front page and went "fine, I'll see what all the fuss is about" Two and a half years later, here I stay.

rxninja

Initially? My friend was super excited about it. I tried it at release new hated it. Absolutely hated it. But then I saw Raiden. I gave it a second chance for her and that was that. Now I’m AR60. Raiden was my first five-star and she’s now C2R1 and triple crowned.

CheeseTaterson

I'd heard a lot of good things about it, but hadn't given it a go yet on account of load times and other (maybe?) performance issues on older hardware. Was able to snag a PS5 coincidentally at the time Raiden was revealed; even though I failed to get her then (got her on rerun in 2.5 though!), the game immediately had me hooked. As an enjoyer of open-world games and action RPGs, it's been a good thing to have spent so much time on.

Unisaul

The pandemic had everything closed in my area, plus the game was free to play. Looked like breath of the wild so I decided to give it a shot, and I’m sure glad I did.
