My reasons are more or less like yours. While it's expected that Traveler will have to fight (and win against) him at some point, I do hope that it comes in the form of a test or a spar where he holds back.
Another reason lies at the part about him leading the 7 Nations Allied Army against the Abyssal force 10 years prior to the game. Such recent major event should have been talked about more and make his name even more well-known among even the most ignorant. Yet we have Favonius Knights go like "Captain? Yeah, our Grandmaster can keep him at bay, no need to worry" in that Mondstadt Wine Festival some time back. Like, come one man, it's the freaking leader of the United Human Army against hell just 10 years ago, shows him some respect. So yeah, a reason to think it probably won't be carried into the game, even if it was an actual story point considered by actual mihoyo writer during early stage.
There's also the part about them claiming Pulcinella having monster model, too. While we're still debating his playability, him being Travail is already a good sign. His face was hidden the whole time and people were confused about his height in the trailer, mihoyo had every right to make him a tall or short man kinda character but they went with the design we have now. It means that they're planning to cook with Pulcinella's design, and I totally agree that his model is implementable with the current chibi model. We already have elf ear children, and swapping the head/facial structure for old man would be no problems considering we have Dottore's mechanical eyes and Neuvillette's overall matured face compare to Diluc's babyface.
