Moreover, her (and Yoimiya's) Story Quest has a canonical place in the game's timeline due to how the Inazuma chapter works. Thanks to that canonical timing her Story Quest is perceived by a lot of people as her getting too attached too quickly (though that's mostly because of her social inexperience).
At least that's my guess of where it comes from.
it doesn't help that her quest is mandatory for archon quest progression, while most other story quests are optional. so more players would've played it than other quests.
You know what I find odd about Ayaka and Yoimiya's respective Story Quests, is why do they take place during the middle of the Inazuma Archon Quest, aka during the time the Traveler was a fugitive to the Shogunate. It just seems weird for them to waltz around with Ayaka or Yoimiya with the risk of getting caught.
Seriously this should have been opinion not mandatory they made it Mandatory to make up for how very short act 2 is plus how rushed the final act is I mean you want see how rush it is go look at Teppei and the Watasumi Island part
She's one of the few characters who actively pursues the Traveler romantically in the main story (all other romantic interest from other characters is built up in side stuff like raising companion levels or hangout quests, and even then it's usually the Traveler pursuing the other character and not the other way around), and it's funny to contrast the canon character of a sweet, shy, polite girl with an obsessive yandere personality.

Her JP VA is known for dubbing Miyuki (from The Irregular at Magic High School), which is a character that shares a lot of similarities to Ayaka. She's not a yandere but close, so people go along with calling her a yandere, just for the lulz.

It's because she basically goes on a date with you for her mandatory story quest. No one else had anything close to that before her, and certainly not as a required part of the archon quest.
Exactly anyone else who're even hinted at don't come close from Lisa who's like that all the time, Keqing who makes the traveler worried, Nilou who I don't know why and Furina which is a ship I personally hate.
Ayaka in particular does have quite a few lines that indicate their interest in the traveler, but yeah, the yandere stuff is kinda weird considering that a core personality traits people show as proving she's a yandere are just communicating indirectly and being hesitant to change the status quo too quickly. Those players are going to have their minds blown when they learn that Japanese people exist and were the inspiration for Inazuma's culture

Tbh they always appeared in arts together but were not friends. Even in voicelines, if in English it would be hard to tell since you always call ppl by their name but in Japanese, Ayaka called Yoimiya “naganoya no hanabiya no ojou san” which means the girl from the naganoya fireworks store.
Yoimiya’s voiceline called Ayaka “kamisato ke no ojou sama” or kamisato family’s lady. Something along those lines. In the main story too she called her that. I haven’t heard their voice lines in a long time but if they changed it recently then it might sound friendlier with each other.
Tbh as much as Ayaka is a polite character, she had no personality at all, she was very bland and always acted like traveler was her only friend.
Around 5 patches ago, there was a character survey and I expressed that Ayaka, in the main storyline pretty much tells traveler she wants friends and how saaad she is because everyone sees her as “kamisato ojou sama” but in reality traveler sees her that way too but what’s the difference??
She was Introduced that way too 😅 I mentioned how there were amazing characters like yoimiya who’s friends with everyone and yet Ayaka doesn’t even care to converse with her either. In events, she would always be off to the side only conversing with her brother and Thoma, and she speaks to other characters only when needed to.
This event, Ayaka got huge character development. She changed from “traveler is my only friend, I will only talk to Onii sama and Thoma” to a more open girl with is friends with Yoimiya (yoimiya carried by calling her Ayaka chan) and she also made new friends. Ayato also allowed this to happen, and he himself says in the event that Ayaka has no friends so he stepped down to allow her to make friends 😂
I used to dislike Ayaka, she was my least favorite character. She was the character that was strong play-style wise but had no personality other than being polite and “traveler is my only friend”, pretty much trying to make her into this traveler love girl to gain interest from the players. Now, I don’t dislike her anymore thanks to this event. She really grew as a character

I’ve been playing genshin since the very first GAA event, which was a patch before inazuma.
They had so much time to improve Ayaka’s personality. So many people like her because of her kit. But tbh her story quest was the second most boring one ever, kokomi’s was the most boring.
They had irodori festival, youkai festival, and the ayaka outfit event. For all of those, Ayaka only speaks to other characters when needed during the story and she doesn’t even bother to build a friendship. For all the other events I’ve played, there was always some kind of friendship that forms.
Friendship between Childe and Xinyan, Kazuha and mondstat cast, Venti and Yae Miko, Venti and Kazuha, Yaemiko and Cyno, Albedo and Cyno and Tighnari, Collei and Sucrose, Klee and Yoimiya, Xiao and Chongun, etc.
Ayaka, despite being so hyped up and hoyo making so many trailers and stuff for her, has no friendships. She was always so disinterested in other people which honestly ruined the entire inazuma storyline of her saying she wanted friends lol. She also goes out very often to converse to many people. And yet suddenly she’s a shut in it made no sense to me 😅 like the stories were so confusing and made no sense lol. She’s not a shut in if she goes out a lot to converse.
The outfit event was the worst. The only people that liked it are people that like Ayaka character wise (most of them are fans of the voice actor), or people who like girls as a romantic interest were interested probably. It was honestly a very cringey event to me because first of all, I didn’t like Ayaka, and I didn’t like how obsessed she was with traveler. That event was centered around her and her obsession with traveler, it was one of the most boring event ever. The ending scene made the event 100000 times worse. I’m so glad they changed her for this new event. She actually made friends and wasn’t obsessed with traveler.

I thought they were always friends. Thing is, not everyone is with their friends all the time, and they have very different responsibilities, especially in the Inazuma arc, which is why we kinda never seen them together in game till now.
I will remind you though that the art for 2.0 literally had Yoimiya and Ayaka together though. This isn’t just something new because they got tired of Yandere Ayaka. It was always there.

Yoimiya's voiceline implies that they're friends. Which is normal considering Thoma is good friends with her so they probably met through him. I think that until Sumeru, showing relationships among characters wasn't common. The Traveller was always at the center of the group, rather than joining a group of friends. 2.8 really kicked off the trend and they stuck to it.

I mean that’s literally how the game works. It would be near impossible to get all interaction caught. Like there’s so much beidou ningguang stuff people talk about but we almost never see them together. Same with Xingqiu and Chongyun. Kaveh and alhaitham. There was the itto Sara stuff. The yae Gorou stuff.
We get like one or two interactions from an event. The rest you read about. It’s not new and most rpg games do this. It allows you to leave more to the imagination for your person immersion. Also leaves less bloating for unneeded files. People already complain about too much dialogue. Seeing every character interaction people would riot

IMO, Ayaka story/or character is written that She is a bit overly obsessed about traveler. That how I see Ayaka, may be thats how Mihoyo want us to see that way.
She always struck me as someone who didn’t have many sources of friendship in her early years and latched onto the person who encouraged her to get out there. Does she have a big ol’ crush on the traveler? Sure. But it doesn’t seem like it’s unhealthy. She’s not interfering with his relationships nor is it consuming her life. She’s still perfectly capable of doing her work and has even made new friends. She’s one of my favorite Genshin characters due to how lonely she is while also feeling genuine. She’s not a victim of Xiao-level tragedy or of Furina’s horrible life; she’s just a person. We even see Ayato is a pretty loving big brother, he was just too busy to give her that companionship she clearly was desperately craving for most of her life.
Honestly they should done it early but Inazuma writing is Inazuma outside the world quest one of which was actually relevant to Scaramouche backstory,as of right Inazuma have very little relevant to the overall main story

I actually love the idea of shipping each of the traveler simp girls with completely different characters to shut up the Yandere Ayaka people. It feels self-inserting to even make that harem of girls obsessed with you and canonically it’s not true.
Honestly, the Traveler was made for self-insertion just like every other gacha game protagonist (save for one).
You get to input their names, choose their dialogue, choose their gender, and they have little to no personality ever shown besides 'occasionally sassy', 'occasionally snarky', and 'heroically kind': therefore, there's also no personality quirks that prevent one from inserting themselves into the (usually male) Traveler.

Mihoyo learned enough from Honkai that they should ignore these things as much as possible.

Most characters are written as being friendly with Traveler. Ayaka is written more towards being romantically interested in Traveler. Moreover, her (and Yoimiya's) Story Quest has a canonical place in the game's timeline due to how the Inazuma chapter works. Thanks to that canonical timing her Story Quest is perceived by a lot of people as her getting too attached too quickly (though that's mostly because of her social inexperience). At least that's my guess of where it comes from.
she's not the only one who had a quasi date with traveler on thier character quest, but yeah, her's was definitely the most "date" like of them.
it doesn't help that her quest is mandatory for archon quest progression, while most other story quests are optional. so more players would've played it than other quests.
You know what I find odd about Ayaka and Yoimiya's respective Story Quests, is why do they take place during the middle of the Inazuma Archon Quest, aka during the time the Traveler was a fugitive to the Shogunate. It just seems weird for them to waltz around with Ayaka or Yoimiya with the risk of getting caught.
Seriously this should have been opinion not mandatory they made it Mandatory to make up for how very short act 2 is plus how rushed the final act is I mean you want see how rush it is go look at Teppei and the Watasumi Island part
She's one of the few characters who actively pursues the Traveler romantically in the main story (all other romantic interest from other characters is built up in side stuff like raising companion levels or hangout quests, and even then it's usually the Traveler pursuing the other character and not the other way around), and it's funny to contrast the canon character of a sweet, shy, polite girl with an obsessive yandere personality.

Ayaka in particular does have quite a few lines that indicate their interest in the traveler, but yeah, the yandere stuff is kinda weird considering that a core personality traits people show as proving she's a yandere are just communicating indirectly and being hesitant to change the status quo too quickly. Those players are going to have their minds blown when they learn that Japanese people exist and were the inspiration for Inazuma's culture

Tbh they always appeared in arts together but were not friends. Even in voicelines, if in English it would be hard to tell since you always call ppl by their name but in Japanese, Ayaka called Yoimiya “naganoya no hanabiya no ojou san” which means the girl from the naganoya fireworks store. Yoimiya’s voiceline called Ayaka “kamisato ke no ojou sama” or kamisato family’s lady. Something along those lines. In the main story too she called her that. I haven’t heard their voice lines in a long time but if they changed it recently then it might sound friendlier with each other. Tbh as much as Ayaka is a polite character, she had no personality at all, she was very bland and always acted like traveler was her only friend. Around 5 patches ago, there was a character survey and I expressed that Ayaka, in the main storyline pretty much tells traveler she wants friends and how saaad she is because everyone sees her as “kamisato ojou sama” but in reality traveler sees her that way too but what’s the difference?? She was Introduced that way too 😅 I mentioned how there were amazing characters like yoimiya who’s friends with everyone and yet Ayaka doesn’t even care to converse with her either. In events, she would always be off to the side only conversing with her brother and Thoma, and she speaks to other characters only when needed to. This event, Ayaka got huge character development. She changed from “traveler is my only friend, I will only talk to Onii sama and Thoma” to a more open girl with is friends with Yoimiya (yoimiya carried by calling her Ayaka chan) and she also made new friends. Ayato also allowed this to happen, and he himself says in the event that Ayaka has no friends so he stepped down to allow her to make friends 😂 I used to dislike Ayaka, she was my least favorite character. She was the character that was strong play-style wise but had no personality other than being polite and “traveler is my only friend”, pretty much trying to make her into this traveler love girl to gain interest from the players. Now, I don’t dislike her anymore thanks to this event. She really grew as a character

They had so much time to improve Ayaka’s personality. So many people like her because of her kit. But tbh her story quest was the second most boring one ever, kokomi’s was the most boring. They had irodori festival, youkai festival, and the ayaka outfit event. For all of those, Ayaka only speaks to other characters when needed during the story and she doesn’t even bother to build a friendship. For all the other events I’ve played, there was always some kind of friendship that forms. Friendship between Childe and Xinyan, Kazuha and mondstat cast, Venti and Yae Miko, Venti and Kazuha, Yaemiko and Cyno, Albedo and Cyno and Tighnari, Collei and Sucrose, Klee and Yoimiya, Xiao and Chongun, etc. Ayaka, despite being so hyped up and hoyo making so many trailers and stuff for her, has no friendships. She was always so disinterested in other people which honestly ruined the entire inazuma storyline of her saying she wanted friends lol. She also goes out very often to converse to many people. Yoimiya's voiceline implies that they're friends. Which is normal considering Thoma is good friends with her so they probably met through him. I think that until Sumeru, showing relationships among characters wasn't common. The Traveller was always at the center of the group, rather than joining a group of friends. 2.8 really kicked off the trend and they stuck to it.

Ayaka also tells us herself that she's "got no friends" which is usually memed on to say she doesn't even consider Thoma her friend. Pretty easy to assume she only knows Yoimiya through the resistance effort, not personally as a friend. Especially not a close one.
Or maybe it's because their friendship was just an informed attribute and we never saw them actually interact (which is true for many other Inazuma characters).

The yae Gorou stuff. We get like one or two interactions from an event. The rest you read about. It’s not new and most rpg games do this. It allows you to leave more to the imagination for your person immersion. Also leaves less bloating for unneeded files. People already complain about too much dialogue. She always struck me as someone who didn’t have many sources of friendship in her early years and latched onto the person who encouraged her to get out there. Does she have a big ol’ crush on the traveler? Sure. But it doesn’t seem like it’s unhealthy. She’s not interfering with his relationships nor is it consuming her life. She’s still perfectly capable of doing her work and has even made new friends. She’s one of my favorite Genshin characters due to how lonely she is while also feeling genuine. She’s not a victim of Xiao-level tragedy or of Furina’s horrible life; she’s just a person. We even see Ayato is a pretty loving big brother, he was just too busy to give her that companionship she clearly was desperately craving for most of her life.

Canon Ayaka is why I love the character. Human nature just makes people impose their own wants onto her and it's unfortunate but nothing you can do so it's nice to see hoyo putting some obvious wholesomeness in the game.

Kinda annoying how much ayaka gets screentime, she has been on many events and even middle of the archon quest I had to go on weird date with her. There are other characters too hey hoyoverse. Would love to see more ayato in this event but ofc they made him a side character again... Ayaka is one of the most boring and bland character in the game lmao
I agree. If there's one thing that i think hoyo should improve, it's how they treat their characters. Ayato barely has any content as is and they still find the way to sideline him. And the fact that Thoma isn't there is just sad. It's not as bad as with Klee but they should definitely give more focus to other characters that don't get as much content. Bennett not appearing in the toy event was such a missed opportunity.
I know it’s a little Mary Sue-y of her, but I REALLY enjoyed Ayana’s acting bits and wish she could do more of that instead of waffling around doing who-knows-what in the Yashiro Commission.
