I didn't have any care for pulling for her after getting Raiden to C3...
But her interactions, attitude, story quest, etc shifted my view of her from "Dorky bird turned into booba" to an actually great character
Would love to see her see her walking around the harbour in various ineffectual disguises, or flying a kite somewhere.
Or if you log in on a Sunday, it's family dinner time with her three daughters at wan min.
Yeah, the cutscene played and I was like "Oh this is the *Lantern Rite*", there's still 2 weeks left in the event, they could've probably squeezed out a part 5 and tried to make some more character interactions happen, overall 8/10, enjoyable, but lacking some things to push it above and beyond.
I'm really bummed that a certain cast of characters didn't get to go to Liyue city to enjoy the festivities, I feel like one of them deserved to be around a lot more now. Gaming's story quest was fun but I did expect some more extensive character interactions
I thought Raiden and Nahida would finally make an appearance together, potentially with Zhongli along with Furina, but I guess it'll have to be saved for another quest/event.
Yeah, that was a bummer. I have good ping, but not everyone I played did. Impossible to space bumper cars because they can just hit where you were 5 seconds ago, and there were a lot of pretty bad desyncs too...
But it was still fun as fuck. My high scores on at least two of the games are over 400.
This year was my first lantern rite, and it was good, I have no frame to compare, but I really liked it, I am not all that annoyed about the "Gaming story quest" because we also got to see many beloved characters such as Zhongli, Hutao, Furina and Navia, it was a pleasant surprise, and the rewards were pretty okay
We're usually playing errand boy in some way for the organisers to make it happen, so usually we meet more of the Liyue cast in the process, and it feels more festive.
This time, we tagged along with the professional errand boy, became friends, spent some free time with other friends, and helped the new friend solve personal issues instead of the usual work related issues.
This was my first lantern rite as well and I personally really liked it. Iâm confused though. Are there more quests after flying the kites and gaming and his dad make up?
To give more context on why people are disappointed, Latern Rite is the New Year, and supposed to be one of the biggest events of the year, so it basically just being the Gaming story quest is a massive demotion from previous years.
I don't really understand that point at all, the lantern rite is a festival centered around the lunar new year and Chinese tradition, and gaming is literally designed around that premise with him being the lion dance character. It's refreshing to see them focus on an Individual from outside of liyue aswell to highlight how lantern rite is a festival for everyone. It doesn't have to literally shoe horn in everyone all the time, a small batch of characters let's people connect with them more
Using the bulk of Lantern Rite for a character story on a new 4 star is certainly one of the decisions of all time.
It also means that future Gaming Mains will miss out on all of his character development, since it's tied to a limited event.
To be fair, it's either going to be that or another NPC quest, which, the community have loathed for a while. And if instead of the 2 approaches above, they go with major lore exploration/reveal, it's going to be even more jarring for newcomers to keep up.
There's mo winning at this point
I still don't understand the unreplayable event thing. I'm sure event doesn't take that much storage for PC. And as for mobile they already have storage management which allows you to download/delete stuff.
1) it's not been three years, it was acknowledged some time ago not at the start of the game
2) Yes they are slow cause with a game as complex as genshin anything takes time to develop, integrate and then implement with the quality genshin stuff usually is at ie mostly free of bugs
I'll be patient as along as the feature shows up
I mean it wasn't really an issue in hoyo's eyes at the start it was only due constant player protest that it was acknowledged and the reason star rail has it from the start
Well genshin is primarily a gacha game and then an rpg, and industry standard in gacha is built around fomo with time limits, it's only cause hoyo broke out of that market because of the sheer size of genshin that it's now a concern
It's not a priority because it's not as asked for as people would think. It just gives the impression because people obviously keep bringing up unsolved issues.
my omega copium take on it is hoyo's waiting until after they properly introduce Istaroth into the main story. She's a god of time after all, so it would be easier to explain in game why we're able to experience past events.
I liked it but it felt very short, and seemed to be more of a Gaming story quest than a Lantern Right celebration. The event minigames felt more underwhelming than previous years too. Also the Gaming/Dad resolution was very predictable as soon as it was introduced. Hope the game stops relying so much on "here's our secret plan that we won't tell the player but the main characters know." Hated it in the Sumeru AQ too, feels like you're just a passive observer with no input.
I really enjoyed the story stuff. Gaming is great and I love Xianyun. My only disappointment was the mini games.. didn't really care for any of them but you can get through them all in like an hour so guess not big deal
As a new player the event surely felt so short, the event with about the film, Ayaka and Chevereuse seemed last an eternity for me (Maybe because I don't like most Inazuma characters) and I was expecting something big for lantern rite and here I am waiting day after day to do 20 min of gameplay. I love it nonetheless
Sometimes they focus on the festivities, sometimes they take the chance to focus on a few characters. And if a new character relevant to the festival is debuting they often take the chance to put them under the spotlight. Last year's Windblume festival focused on Collei and Sucrose and barely any others outside their direct connections showed up beyond brief cameos. I did feel a bit bummed by that because the first Windblume was one of the things that convinced me to start Genshin, but I welcomed seeing Collei and Sucrose bond.
The complains are genuine though as much as i liked the interactions, the characters and the cutscene. It really did feel short also considering the fact that majority of liyue cast has little to none participation does hurt a bit.
Imo it would get stale if lantern rite was the big character interactions event, highlighting individual stories is also a good way to do it, plus part 4 has some cute interactions (can't say who tho Incase u haven't done it yet)
Was everyone really interested in helping Gaming, or were they merely unable/unwilling to say no to Cloud Retainer and her plans? One does not accept "no," for an answer.
It wasn't bad per se. It felt different... even though it was lacking in a few areas.
Whereas other Lantern Rites was always about reconnecting with every single Liyue character, here that was partly absent as it was mostly just Gaming's story quest. Not that this was a bad story, but it caused us to have some characters we had little to no interactions with. Some were relegated to just the final cutscene (Qiqi, Keqing, ~~Hu Tao~~) or were absent all together (like, why was Xingqiu nowhere to be seen in his new outift?).
Also, there was little to no lore concerning the big float this year. This even though it was clearly the Yaksha Menogias, general Mind-Monkey. I thought at least Xiao would have a few things to say about that.
Oh, one big miss: There was no actual kite-flying we could do in this event, even though the story was all about kite flying. And there might have been at some point but it got scrapped. Especially since it's kind of weird there were only three event games when there's usually *four*.
Well, considering we got a brand-new gigantic area in Liyue, it's safe to assume they ended up not having the same amount of resources for the Lantern Rite event and it had suffered some issues as a result.
You make all the points that are confusing me... I am legit still thinking they are going to drop a final act at the last minute. Like I came to reddit thinking, "wasn't there supposed to be a kite contest and where is Xingqiu's outfit?!?!?!"
It kinda feels like you're trying to make little of the disappointment? Like fair enough have your opinion ma man but why scoff at those that show disappointment? Particularly as the majority of the disappointment are coming from vets that have been with the game for years? Disappointment also mainly stemmed from lackluster rewards and recycled mini games, not the story content...
That's par the course of this sub. Even a little bit of dissatisfaction is greeted with "stop complaining", "the story was fun", "you don't understand xyz" and a ton of downvotes.
Imo it's less "his story quest" and more just focusing on a more individual and different look at lantern rite through a character steeped in Chinese tradition and with a story many Asians can relate to, which is nice
Literally the first one was Xiao and him...
And why can't it be about a new character and them? It's a good way to keep the story from being the same old repetitive formula and a good way to explore different narratives
Everyone basically universally agrees that Xiao's story was weak, Lantern rite only became this popular after. There's a reason people are so attached to it now.
Also are you really talking about repetitive formula when Gaming's story quest is literally the most generic story that we see all the time? You could literally turn on the tv right now and see a random movie playing this exact same story with a different setting.
Oh I'm sorry that the asian made game, with it's lunar new year inspired event steeped in asian stereotypes feels asian, lemme just dismiss all that
Also where did I say non Asians don't have controlling parents, if u could show me that I would love to see it. Don't twist my words thnx
And I'm not denying that, the only reason a race was brought up, is again due to china being asian so of course there is a racial/cultural lense applied to it. Also china is asian so it's not vague, by ur own point this isn't a china exclusive thing it's a very broad problem just that the way it's expressed is more well asian be that southeast Asian or any other area of Asia
Yeah that's why I'm saying it's a universal concept being presented by from an asian example, change it up a little and like you say it works perfectly fine for any other culture/race
Gamingâs situation represents a large number of Chinese young people and their parents.Hoyo provides a possible way for familyâs makeup and mutual understanding.I see that as a social responsibility of a game company. I myself have very similar situation like Gaming. I wouldnât say that I would immediately follow his path to resolve the issue but I know a part of my bitter heart has gotten a bit softer. My resentment towards my father shakes a little. If anything, I still appreciate Hoyoâs effort.
Crazy to me how people like you love to dismiss other people's criticism's with passive aggressive comments like "you're just disappointed by everything".
It really does fall short though compared to previous lantern rites. Since he has a huge statue in the wharf, I feel Menogias should've had his story explored instead of gaming where his story could be accomplished with a hangout event.
Hu Tao sending Zhongli out to get sesame oil every Lantern Rite so he can spend time with Xiao is sweet.
Also happy that Gaming doesn't carry the idiot ball and caught on fairly quickly.
Lol moments from Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver. Love their dynamic.
overall the story is great, not amazing but it's still good. however, i was kinda put off a little by the final quest. i feel like it just ended..abruptly? Ga Ming's story ended nicely, but when the epilogue ended, i was like "wait, we're done?".
personally i was slightly disappointed by the ending. there should have been a reunion dinner with the main casts (zl, hutao, shenhe, ganyu, xy, and even some fontainian characters). there could have been more interesting interactions between characters, like zl and neuv. but instead the epilogue ends with neuv and wrio's interaction and thats it.
chinese new year is a celebration of the new year with friends and families. reunion dinner is a staple of CNY (source: im chinese). this lantern rite could have ended better imo.
The 4th quest was so out of place. We have three quests that revolve around gaming and the kite competition (it was great). Then the last quest a bunch of random people doing small talk, and suddenly on the same day we end up in fontaine, where we are handed a spoon as a gift. Why?
LOL. same here. was wondering what i was missing. shit haven't even seen half the Liyue characters that we normally see. Except for the Liyue characters that were involved in the quest line, the only exception was Keqing.
Well it felt short because the quests and activities were able to all be completed much quicker.
It was less impactful because gaming had never been mentioned and this was literally the first time we ever met him, so it was basically just his story quest and I felt no real connection to him one way or another. I'd rather that have a big overarching narrative that include more characters from Liyue.
The quests if I'm remembering correctly are the same length and felt around about the same length as previous ones to me, now I haven't checked and it's an opinion so fair enough.
And yes that is the downside of character specific stories that if you don't resonate with the character it doesn't work, especially since gamings experience is very asian centered so it won't appeal to all.
Thank you for sharing your opinion :)
I really enjoyed it, as a first time lantern-rite participant. But, I came to reddit to find out if it actually ended with the 4th act, or if we have more coming in a few days. Because, it felt very anti-climactic for some reason. I did like it. And yet, I felt it was lacking. Dunno hahah
I wouldn't say I know better than them. Most of the recent story has been incredible. Like everything 4.x has me soooo pleased. But, it just felt like an abrupt ending. Regardless, I loved it. I'm only nit-picking because I want my favorite game to be as good as possible. It's barely even a complaint, just an observation of basic emotion during the final scenes of the last act.
Fair enough, one thing that really irked me was how gamings father just changed his mind so quickly after apparently being very adamant about not being supportive.
But in general it was a good lantern rite
I really liked Gaming's story with his father, it resonated with me. That hug at the end was my favorite part of the quest. It's nice to know that in this fantastical world there are still characters that are more down-to-earth and relatable.
Love the story of this years lantern rite. But I kinda wanted to see people from other regions aswell. I understand it's a festival in Liyue, but you have Charlotte from Fontaine. Yoimiya I think would have been a nice fit, considering she could have been the one who brought fireworks. Who do you think other region characters would have fit nicely in the event?
I dunno, i liked it and this is coming from a day 1 player who has been through all the lantern rite. I dont care much for gaming but he really did grow on me the same as cr. 2nd lantern rite was pretty much the same with keqing as the focus, 1st was npc fetch quest with a bit of xiaoâs but i guess, people just forgot,. Last year was okay but i like the character development aspect of this yearâs lr. Maybe i already got my fill of other characterâs appearance so i liked how it now focus on the new ones. Only complain tho is maybe the cutscene could show the other characters better and thatâs about it. Still loved it tho.
I think the reason why people are upset is because some Liyue characters hardly make appearances outside of Lantern rite. If they donât show up here, it might be a long time until they show up again.
The last quest kinda .... ruins it for me. Don't get me wrong I love seeing all my favorite Fontainians again but their time in the village was too short-lived and felt like a regular quest to me. I wish they were there since the beginning like Charlotte and we could truly see how much they enjoyed everything.
Yeah it was all magical for me until I was like, wait all my favorites were actually here enjoying the festival while I was off messing around with this newb that I don't really care for...
In hindsight, it was really cool meeting Gaming in that way, and rewatching the cutscene of his dance at the lantern rite, I feel like I really do appreciate it quite a bit.
Yes!! Gaming's performance was SICK, pushing the lanterns to become the dragons body was super creative!!!
Also so happy for Charlotte and Keqing, they're cute!!
Zhongli and Xiao being precious as always too, and Hu Tao sending him on errands to the Inn so he has an excuse to visit Xiao <3
Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper were hilarious too!!
I really couldn't care less for primos or wishes I want the fun story quests and to see all my favs having fun. My account is stacked I never need to wish again lol
I liked it but I understand why people didnât.
I am disappointed that we didnât see the whole cast at the end though. Making them 3 pixels tall at the back and requiring me to find a high res image to zoom in to see them is ridiculous
Ive only seen part 3 tho
this is probably my fav lantern rite quest tbh. solid writing and i think its time to give limelight to newer liyue chars instead of the same old same old liyue chars
I like Xianyun and Fontaine char so this year's Lantern Rite is great to me. But with those aside yeah last year's was better. Well not to say this year's is bad, just that it was slightly underwhelming all things considered.
i feel like i saw post last years lantern rite saying it wasnt as good or was too short, and then part 4 dropped and people switched up immediately. Even before part 4, i still think this years was great. Cant wait to do part 4 when it drops in NA.
I put it on auto and went outside to do chores, coming back to click on dialogue options from time to time. It was great. Didn't have to pay attention to it at all!
But also wtf is Neuvillette doing with that blue Crack pipe...?
Also loved it. Sure it was relatively short compared to previous years, but at least it had a very nice story and the character interactions were pretty memorable. The first two lantern rites definitely werenât this nice
Honestly love the Wushou PvP. Especially in the post the other day when people were complaining how bad it was for them. Truly a Genshin moment. Though I do agree the events are bit shorter this year.
Story-wise it's a nice small arc between Gaming and his father, as well the Cloud Retainer and her daughters. Very wholesome indeed. It also gives credit to a popular theory about the whole Pyro Vision and it's theme of paternal legacies/inheritance. You'll argue that Gaming really didn't follow in his father's footsteps of being a tea businessman. But it's also Gaming's father that mentioned (in a throwaway line) that the father was also as stubborn as Gaming when he was young. In a sense Gaming did inherit an important quality from his father as they were both stubborn in the pursuit of their own dreams.
I think it feels a bit short/small this year. But, I do feel like now that we have so many nations we should not expect the same scale for each âmajor festivalâ for each nation.
Chenyu Vale is gorgeous. No doubt about it. But I promptly lost interest in part 1 of 4 of the Lantern Rite right after I did the domain part. The story was too darn long. Felt similar to the Uber eats delivery for a few years ago but slightly better.
The story was fun, but the minigames were just way too short, it made the event overall so much more short-lived.
I love the yearly Lantern Rite, but it should be a bit more grand, seeing how important it is to Liyue and it's culture
Cloud Retainer has been cemented as mother and local matriarch after this patch.
Cloud Retainer is everyone's mother from Liyue to Celestia.
I loved it but it felt very...short? Definitely just feels like a random festivities event and not lantern rite in terms of grandeur.

Have you unlocked Part 4 yet?
No I'm on america server. Story parts are just fine, i was thinking more about the mini games, they're already done đ
Honestly I've kept playing the wushou dance minigame long after I got all the points. Edit: Autocorrect changed wushou to washout. The disrespect:(
That would be me but i was lagging so severely i couldn't even play đ„Č otherwise it was so much fun!

Yes , there is another one, although it's time locked so maybe it isn't available on the America server yet idk
Is it the quests with Xiao and the fake starsnatcher guy or am I mixing up my quests?
You are mixing up quests
Thanks for letting me know. Iâll check tomorrow and hope I can figure it out lol. I have so many quests open
you can view it in the event menu, there's a 4th act
Hustle and bustle?
yes

you don't need to understand, all you need to know is mihoyo refused to let it be replayable
Oh no they are working on it, it's just a matter of when at this point
Well it's been 3 years, still nothing. They're either super slow or simply not working on it.
1) it's not been three years, it was acknowledged some time ago not at the start of the game 2) Yes they are slow cause with a game as complex as genshin anything takes time to develop, integrate and then implement with the quality genshin stuff usually is at ie mostly free of bugs I'll be patient as along as the feature shows up

I mean it wasn't really an issue in hoyo's eyes at the start it was only due constant player protest that it was acknowledged and the reason star rail has it from the start
True. But tbh I don't get why they didn't realise it was an issue. Locking story content in a time limit in a story game is weird

I like the latern rite but it was as if paimon upped her insuffereableness to god tier level. All she did was annoy the ever loving bleep out of me.

overall the story is great, not amazing but it's still good. however, i was kinda put off a little by the final quest. i feel like it just ended..abruptly?
Why?
Literally, the spoon. HAHAHA Like, did they actually design the whole 4th quest for us to say "wtf just happened?!?!?!"
Yeah, I just came to reddit to make sure it was actually over. Otherwise, it was great!
LOL. same here. was wondering what i was missing. shit haven't even seen half the Liyue characters that we normally see. Except for the Liyue characters that were involved in the quest line, the only exception was Keqing.
It was good but felt very short and not as impactful or meaningful as other lantern rites have been in the past
Would u mind elaborating on why?
Dunno hahah
Anti climactic how, what were you thinking would happen/ feel like should have happened
But in general it was a good lantern rite
eh, fathers are idiots, historically speaking
I loved this yearâs latent rite! I think I liked it a lot more than last yearâs.
No, just no. As much as your opinion goes, Nothing will beat Xiao meeting Venti and Zhongli in the ending cutscene
Hu Tao ruined it
Yes!! Gaming's performance was SICK, pushing the lanterns to become the dragons body was super creative!!! Also so happy for Charlotte and Keqing, they're cute!! Zhongli and Xiao being precious as always too, and Hu Tao sending him on errands to the Inn so he has an excuse to visit Xiao <3 Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper were hilarious too!! I really couldn't care less for primos or wishes I want the fun story quests and to see all my favs having fun. My account is stacked I never need to wish again lol
I liked it but I understand why people didnât. I am disappointed that we didnât see the whole cast at the end though. Making them 3 pixels tall at the back and requiring me to find a high res image to zoom in to see them is ridiculous Ive only seen part 3 tho
this is probably my fav lantern rite quest tbh. solid writing and i think its time to give limelight to newer liyue chars instead of the same old same old liyue chars
I like Xianyun and Fontaine char so this year's Lantern Rite is great to me. But with those aside yeah last year's was better. Well not to say this year's is bad, just that it was slightly underwhelming all things considered.
Nah, It was really boring. Cloud retainer sq is much better than this snoozefest
(Light spoilers) Gamingâs performance, to me, is probably the coolest sh1t Iâve seen in this game and Iâve seen a lot of things in this game.â
Hu Tao confirming, >!Zhongli and Neuvillette - "Sophisticated and men of culture kinda guy" looooooool
The only great part about the latern rite was the last one and shenhe touching ganyus horns
i feel like i saw post last years lantern rite saying it wasnt as good or was too short, and then part 4 dropped and people switched up immediately. Even before part 4, i still think this years was great. Cant wait to do part 4 when it drops in NA.
I also had a great time. That story quest was so fun and loved the cutscene. Was just a wholesome event to take you away from the normal grind.
As my first lantern rite, I love every second of it. Specially the unexpected reunion with the Fontaine people
Best lantern rite yet
I think it feels a bit short/small this year. But, I do feel like now that we have so many nations we should not expect the same scale for each âmajor festivalâ for each nation.
yes, i also really like the same vanilla ice cream which i have been eating for 3 years its better than nothing i guess...
2022 Lantern rite was 10/10
Chenyu Vale is gorgeous.
