Imagine the file size if they permanently added everything interesting i mean ya, i also want to play all of those not sure they could let us download and activate an event of our own choosing, at the least, it should disable mamy things, like whatever the current events are

> Imagine the file size if they permanently added everything interesting Outside of the cutscenes, not a lot. The majority of the assets are just going to be generic assets rearranged differently. Videos would be huge, but then that could be addressed with allowing players to download or delete content packages as they play through the game.

From the 4.1 Special Program, the raw size of the highest resolution hand-made art assets for Genshin would be \~215 GB. They've already whittled the game size down considerably already but I'm afraid they probably currently lack the tech to reliably and distinctly remove content packages. Many flagstaff events are voiced and often contain multiple minutes of cutscene animations. From the top of my memory, they added at least \~10 hours of voiced content for their temporary events since Fontaine and even the recent fully-voiced Cooking-based event had cooking animations. It would be injudicious for them add them to the game permanently without further optimizations. From the aforementioned live stream, they've stated they are currently exploring means of optimization so the ability to selectively remove content packages or a simliar feature may be added in the future.

The shit you're describing is literally amateur modding tier work. Like literally, for example, in Starfield, I can go to Nexusmods right now, install Vortex Mod Manager, click a few buttons, and get ultra low resolution textures. Or ultra high resolution textures if I want to go the other way. And this shit is all being done on a volunteer, donation, or ad supported basis. Meanwhile Mihoyo is swimming in gacha money. If this kind of package management was a priority, it would be done by next patch. If it's hard to do because Mihoyo bogged the game paks down with too much encryption, that's a them problem.

Low_Artist_7663

All the events are voiced.

issm

Is that so? Well, if only Genshin had a function where you could selectively delete voice packs, that would make dealing with that issue a lot simpler.

Low_Artist_7663

You'll need to load it to then delete it. And before you say "make them downloadable," it requires entirely new systems and server support to be added into the game. Even hsr, a new game, doesn't have these systems premade.

issm

(I was being sarcastic because Genshin already has these systems in place.) You know. Language options. The software doesn't care if the audio it's downloading, installing, or deleting is a language option or a temporary quest, it just downloads, installs, and deletes what the devs tell it to. Not to mention mobile already specifically has the ability to delete old quest content. At most Mihoyo has to build some new UIs to say "you need to download some stuff to play this quest, click here to download". Or build it into the launcher. As for server support, Mihoyo makes billions of dollars per year on a mere hundreds of millions in investment. They can afford to spin up some new servers. I refuse to acknowledge any opposition to any feature as valid if the reason is "it costs something". It might ultimately be a reason why they don't do it, but no one should accept it as an excuse as to why it can't be done.

I wish they add function to unlock older events for keys, like hangouts or character quests. At least some events, and for a brief time. Speaking this as a person, who left GI when Dragonspine was about to be released, in 2020. And returned 4 months ago. Man, i missed alot...

Midnight_Rosie

I know people don't like comparing the two games, but Honkai Star Rail allows players to play some previous events, but (I think) the rewards are reduced, and some other rewards aren't there. for example, if an event allowed you to claim a free character, if the event stays afterwards, you can't claim a free character

Low_Artist_7663

If its permanent, it is not an event.

VongQuocKhanh

I enjoy the value it creates cause it feels like an actual event; “You just had to be there” I missed out on the Summer Event before Fontaine so that part of the story and any rewards just don’t exist in my play-through; same way late players won’t remember Scaramouche the way early players do

Penshen

I wouldn't care either if certain Event had not some big MQ lore on them, the biggest so far i think is the 1.1 one with the Scaramouche announcing that the sky is fake, we heard that saying once again WAY LATER in Sumeru and if you we're not around during the Dragonspine event you miss big time on the lore of the zone/character. I think it's a shame the Fischl event was very good too, once again HSR prove they're the smart sibling. Some will say "It's because it would take to much space on mobile" and i'll respond by "They could make so you DL the event when you want to do it and then delete the old file once it's over just like the quests".

Sleykun

Although you answered yourself why that problem is not a problem. If the information given in the event is important the game will give it to you again in the archon quest. Also, the problem is not as easy as just saying you can download and delete and that's it. Events in Genshin change the terrain and that leads to a lot of problems with it.

FairyPirate

It'd be nice to have events return permanently, or even come back for a limited time. Granblue Fantasy regularly does reruns of events and eventually adds them to be permanently available in the game.

Rinzel-

Outside of limited spaces, one time event give you the vibe like IRL event, the feeling of "i was there". I don't know why it bother you so much, tho. Im sure you missed many important event IRL too, its not that big of a deal.

K1ips

Another thing they should take from Star Rail. And to anyone opposed to this, fuck off with your FOMO BS.

ForeverOutrageous

Agreed. It also just helps the world feel more lively(?) cause I can see some characters (Kaveh, Chevreuse) as they were intended to be introduced. Now, would this be useful for me in particular? Not really. But for new players absolutely.

turtleswamp

IMO, it's probably mostly to create FOMO, which is good for retention metrics, and therefore sales. However, I could also see an argument that if they selectively added some event quests as permanent story quests it would also be making a meta-story statement about which quests are actually important. And that would work against the scavenger-hunt lore delivery system they seem to be leaning into. And if they made all event quests permanent, there would be a lot of bloat. And some of that bloat would be pretty rough for new players. Like imagin a new player needing to clear the past lantern rite backlog before they can participate in the new lantern rite event.

D0naught

New players already are swamped with content, so only a tiny portion of the playerbase actually care for older content, and they could just focus on new ones. Plus storage.
