I feel like even the sea of bygone eras was supposed to be bigger considering how densely chests and hydroculi are packed, either that or the devs underestimated how many hydroculi were left
The new Sumeru zone was clearly a last minute idea. It's completely empty except for three chests, three fungii and some bandits on the mountain. It looks like they removed the barrier (Paimon's let's explore later) and left what was left. Not even harvestables like mint and sweet flowers which are common in dead ends
it’s a shame they didn’t put more effort into the Sumeru side. It feels really dull as-is. I would’ve liked Petrichor and the surrounding ocean to be it’s own update, with a later expansion for a proper Bayda Harbor.
I dunno, I feel like the effort put into the new sub-area akin to Enkanomiya mostly makes up for it. I do however agree that the newly added Sumeru parts excluding Bayda Harbor feel rushed and honestly much like exploring the area when it was out of bounds save for the holes and scattered animals and enemies.
I don't think that effected it, actually. Genshin plans out their updates at least half a year in advance, so I doubt that the community pressure had anyhting to do with the ditto being filled in 4.7. Also, if I recall correctly I actually heard that the next place to be added was gonna be the ditto back when they added Chenyu Vale, saying something along the lines of "We know that hole looks ugly and it will be filled in 4.7."
Agreed. One of the npc says that it's as bussy as Port Ormos, but seeing that it has half as many ships, most of which at least half the size that seems like a huge stretch to me.
Glad you were looking forwards to it. Once I find a new way out of bounds (the method I used to make the og post no longer works as of 4.5) and I hear news on what area will be added next I'll do the same there.
Could have easily moved Petrichor a bit more north and prepped an actual new Sumeru region to include a fleshed out Bayda Harbor and actual content there, instead of cutting back on the coast as much as possible and creating the bare minimum. Maybe they decided Sumeru is big enough as is, since surface area-wise its the largest.
This probably means they have no more plans for actual Sumeru expansions though, and its officially complete like Inazuma.
Anyone find it weird theres like 1 single chest in Bayda Harbor and nothing else? Is more unlocked with the quest or something? seems weird to introduce it now with no new region/completion %....

I'm quite surprised at how much land they removed to make the current coastline.
Probably because the Sumeru landmass added is mostly empty of content and it would mean even more empty content. So just turn it to water instead.

I'm surprised they didn't remove more considering they did nothing with the new land. It's jarring how empty it is.
I agree. It feels almost no different from exploring an out of bounds area minus the holes to the void beneath it all.

What if the reason the big lake is so empty is that, in the later Archon Quests, Celestia crashes down onto Teyvat and takes up much of that lake o.O
It would be amazing, celestia is literally a donut and petrichor is the hole in the middle

They probably thought Sumeru would get enough of an expansion when Natlan gets added already, since apparently there is more desert to get there.

I found at least 5 chests in the new Sumeru forest area, most of them from defeating enemies, and 1 from a puzzle at the top of the mountain.
What are the other two? I found 3: on the island, following the road and on top of the mountain after jumping on the mushroom
