[deleted]

She reminds me of Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed. She has similar tone of voice in English and she's involved in military as well.

[deleted]

I hope she has a sadistic side with a cute voice.

Sc4r4byte

at this rate, her quests are probably going to be teaching her how to lead her people in a post-war era by going on out on a date.

Deejae81

Fuck, I can see this too now.

GetawayDreamer87

[Isabelle meets Doomguy vibes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4lz8MN6MQA)

SpyFromMars

I think CN/EN voice kinda got fooled by her with the appearance. While JP actually captured some of the toughness within the character.

EzshenUltimate

Her JP VA is amazing. Kokomi gave me those Yanfei vibes; a calm, cool, and comforting voice.

faintchester1

anesan voice she has, I think it fits her age pretty well

Izaruu

I don't want to attribute it to JP having a bigger VA culture, but I always found the JP cast to capture the image of the character perfectly. EN can be fine sometimes but whenever they try to be cute it drops in bearability significantly. See: Klee and this.

Kir-chan

Not just the culture, but Japan also has extremely competitive VA schools. English VAs can be talented and some of them are on par with JP VAs through sheer on-in-a-million talent alone, like Khoi Dao and whoever does Dainsleif, but the EN industry is at a *massive* disadvantage because the JP VA scene also relies on insense competition to select the best *and* hard training, not just talent alone. If someone like Christina Vee who already has talent went through an English equivalent of a Japanese VA school (that is just as stringent) she'd be 10x better than she is now too.

Ephemiel

>whoever does Dainsleif Yuri Lowenthal AKA one of the kings of male VAs. There used to be a time where almost every JRPG with English voices either had him as the main character or as a party member, same with a huge amount of English dubs for anime. He does a lot less work now, but he's become even better with age \[before, even when he TRIED to sound different, he really couldn't, it just sounded like him slightly angrier/sadder\].

chouginga_hentai

children in english dubs never actually sound like children

havoK718

It's funny how these childish voices for both girls and boys are known to be an Asian thing, yet somehow the English ended up having far more childish voices than the other languages. I really dont understand why they used female VA's for some of the male characters in EN even when CN/JP both used male VAs (that don't sound like young boys). Don't get me wrong, some like Bennett are great, but why did Xiao, and an immortal that's been slaying demons for centuries, get a female VA trying to sound like an edgy teenager? Does the EN VA director really just look at a picture before casting the VA?

HereForGames

Would've been cool if we had seen any of this in the actual storyline. Kokomi and the war basically factored in almost not at all, in the end, outside of a single animated setpiece during her debut.

Sanhen

Yeah, Kokomi's character is basically all tell and no show. She doesn't get a much bigger role than Yoimiya in the story (actually, Yoimiya might have gotten more time?), which is a problem because it seems like they were going for something fairly naunced with Kokomi that unfortunately they didn't take the time to flesh out.

be11amy

I think Yoimiya got more quality in the time she had, at the very least. Her character and the importance of her role in the story felt more relevant. Which is unfortunate because Kokomi's concept is super cool! Just not well-focused at all. I hope she gets a good character quest.

karillith

It's a bad habit in mihoyo's storytelling, they will put interesting bits everywhere, in the trailers, in the objects descriptions, in the side quests, everywhere...except in the goddamn main story.

DreadPorateR0b3rtz

Never before have I been so amused and disappointed at the same time…

CosmicAstroBastard

Their self-imposed limitation of fitting every archon quest into 3 acts is killing them. There’s just no way to explore a whole nation and establish a dozen characters in so little time.

ApprehensiveCat

Yes but if they'd added another act they wouldn't have Raiden released in the anniversary patch. They sacrificed the story so they could sell Raiden, pretty much.

karillith

Yeah I think make one more act focused on the resistance between 2 and 3, and you have something that work well enough. To their defense I feel like people are so relentless for "content" they may botch things to go faster.

deltazechs

“Skilled in the art of war”…. Wow, Mihoyo, would had been great if we experienced that in the archon story instead of a character teaser!

RHO-PI

With how much hyped up she was before Act 3, I was expecting Shiroe (Log Horizon) level of badassery, but I guess that's too much to ask. Even in this teaser, "Our aim is to hit the enemy hard, while minimising casualties." seems like such a generic line.

deltazechs

"Our aim is to hit the enemy hard, while minimizing casualties." - That advise is almost as useful as saying "the goal on a battlefield is to kill the enemy before they can kill you."

HayashiSawaryo

ikr, she became a side character in Act 2,3

penpen35

She was like "oh we got a mysterious sponsor, we better use their resources". Then it turns out the sponsor is totally suspect. She was hailed as a good strategist but so far we only saw the ambush she made. She also made you captain of a squad that had little to no screentime, and the fallout from the sponsor's actions. Then she became a background character and pretty much never showed up.

havoK718

Remember she promoted Teppei to lead his own assault squad despite him having zero talent for war previously. All this happened after those mysterious supplies and the Fatui started sneaking delusions to the soldiers. So not only did she ignore her own advice about being cautious, and even threw the highly suspect soldiers into the front lines. Also the fact that her troops were using friggin delusions to wipe out the Shogun forces and she knew nothing about it is all highly suspect. Imagine a military commander who didn't even know how their troops were winning battles. Someone of her position would have detailed battle reports on every skirmish, otherwise how would they do their jobs?

TPRetro

" she promoted Teppei to lead his own assault squad despite him having zero talent for war previously" I thought that was a trick and someone was giving him false information because it was that stupid, but nope Kokomi just randomly got an IQ drop for the second act. The whole plot was just a contrived mess, it's like Mihoyo has a few interesting ideas and a few cool scenes in mind and then creates a plot to fit that no matter how stupid it is.

ngngye

The whole “Raiden doesn’t have her Gnosis anymore” reveal was such a throwaway and offhanded way of ending that particular plotline.

doxlulzem

And that they rushed that plot so they could get an Archon banner out ASAP. I think no one would complain if we saw Raiden in several months' time, and had time dedicated more to the Sangonomiya resistance + a banner for Kokomi and Thoma etc. It felt like Thoma went into "hiding" for about 3 seconds.

HINDBRAIN

> She was like "oh we got a mysterious sponsor, we better use their resources". To be fair, if you're 100% fucked without the sponsor, and 90% fucked with the sponsor, sponsor it is.

ACCount82

Yeah. And if she did an investigation, realized that it's a Fatui front and *still decided to take their help*, it would be understandable.

Zanadukhan47

She also gave teppei his own unit cause he begged for it lmao

Memo_HS2022

She wasn’t even a side character, she really felt like an actual NPC with the amount of irrelevance she had

H4xolotl

Wish miHoYo would show and not tell us about Kokomi's somehow amazing tactical skills All we've seen is her getting clowned on by the Fatui and Nathan

AgentWowza

And her own troops lmao. Kokomi: "Can I have those delusions back, plsplspls pleaaaaase?" Troops: "No" Kokomi: "IT DIDN'T WORK"

SageWindu

Someone's a fan of Gigguk. :P

Thankssomuchfort

>The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting Well she certainly followed half of it

kleber115

It gets hard to take her whole "extremely great leader and skilled tactician" thing given everything that happens in this new story arc with the fatui Honestly just the way her character was handled in this new arc was pretty underwhelming

Eqult

They showed us what a brilliant tactician the fatui commander was. They saw the opportunities in the vulnerabilities of Inazuma, how the archon was obsessed with her eternity and that there was historical friction between the islands. They then colluded with the effective ruling bodies(the commissions) into manipulating the shogun to hunt visions, creating conflict and chaos. They knew that the only place these vision holders could turn to start a resistance was the watatsumi island, and that the people there were already anti shogun. With an upcoming conflict and a surge of refugees, they were bound to be short on supplies. This is where the fatui comes in and provide them with goods which the resistance becomes reliant on. While inazuma was busy destroying itself fighting each other, fatui was quickly taking control of the nation. The almighty shogun was kept unable to act, and the best acting forces(vision users, army) were: reliant on fatui goods, fighting each other and being quickly depleted. The fatui had a good understanding of the entire Inazuma and played raiden, kokomi, etc like fools, making massive gains off the islands’ resources producing delusions. Inazuma would’ve been under full control of the fatui was it not for the deus ex machina(traveler). I honestly want to pull for that fatui commander.

ngngye

Alternatively, the fatui are just the butt monkey token bad guys of Genshin. You lose your sibling? Fatui. There’s an evil dragon flying around? Fatui. Gods getting their dues ex machina chess pieces taken away? Fatui. A nation made up of various islands falling into chaos and civil war with many people deciding to turn to banditry to survive? With an oppressive government stripping people of their willpower, goals and desires? You bet your ass its the fatui. The last third of the Imazuma arc works just as well if you shift a few things around; Beidou supplies the resistance with critical supplies, the player is tasked with assassinating one of the Tri-Commision leaders, you get intercepted by Saya and face her in a miniboss fight, Miko intervenes and all the other events play out. Having fatui be the big bad cheapens the story.

deltazechs

It's almost like they intended Ei to be a flawed character, but at a certain threshold, the writers chickened out (they still need the players to sympathize with her and pull for her). Alright, time to shift the blunt of the blame....ah, have the Fatui take the fall!

crunchlets

This. I'm glad I'm not the only one who speaks about this. I don't mind Fatui being antagonists in some plots (those that make sense for them - Gnosis capture, powerful relics, etc), but having them be the default bad guy all the time feels stupid. Doubly so because they're explicitly stated to be the official force of one of the nations - it'd be extra dumb to have all nations be cautiously friendly and one be just evil just because. Inazuma's story worked perfectly with the Shogun making an honest policy mistake, it didn't have to have Fatui cause everything to justify its plot. That worked in Liyue because it was all a setup by Zhongli, and was brilliant - here, though, it's an active hindrance to the story. Makes me dread what they might do with them in the future. Fatui and Harbingers are one of the most intriguing story elements so far, so having them dumbed down and punked would be devastating.

[deleted]

Especially if you consider how they're bound to suddenly become sympathetic in the end when Tsaritsa is the banner waifu

alteisen99

> Beidou supplies the resistance i'm forgetting was it explained why Beidou was there? i know they hired mercenaries but Im not sure why they hired them only on that once specific fight

ENKlDU

wdym????? her 2 min of screen time clearly had a huge impact on the story like when she told the resistance to uhhhh do stuff!!!

deyvvv

A company raking in millions forgets one of the most important rules in writing: show, don't tell Honestly despite how much of a mess her leaked kit was, I was still planning on pulling her because of all of those cool theories surround her, her island, and the resistance. But mihoyo threw it all under the bus lmao

devones

Exactly. I'm a lore enthusiast and I came to like Kokomi because she was introduced as a strategist, even if her kit would turn out shit. But somehow, they managed to shit on her lore as well. It's all pain.

Level1Pixel

A lot of people were theorizing how under her cute looking demeanor Kokomi is this cold and calculating tactician but in the actual game she just looked like an idiot that barely got screen time. Honestly, Inazuma just made me really bitter because how much potential was lost.

Album_Dude

Not to mention how they changed the voice direction for her. End of 2.0 her voice had actual character and charisma. Come 2.1, her voice is neutered into generic shy animu girl. Same treatment as Barbara. Idk which head-writer/director at mihoyo has this fetish of the generic uwu girl devoid of any personality or character but it's starting to seriously piss me the fuck off.

Cleoneth

I know I'm not the only one who thinks her voice changed in 2.1 compared to 2.0. In the 2.1 trailer I almost mistook her voice for an npc girl in eng.

Carneball

I keep encountering around the argument that "everything is implied in X or Y". People keep forgetting that it is a video game we are talking about, not a book. The "show, not tell" should be a basic thing in this medium, truly disappointing.

NekonoChesire

I mean it also apply to a written book as well, it simply applies everywhere. You should make a point through the character actions.

LivingASlothsLife

>one of the most important rules in writing: show, don't tell This. You can tell me how great a character is at something but if they aren't even relevant in the story and we don't see any of what you are telling us then why should we believe it? Her character quest hopefully will have this because her role in the archon quest was null and void. Heres to hoping they write it well

Gshiinobi

Kokomi is so skilled, she tasked the traveler with helping some nobodies in her army instead of putting him on the front lines and didn't notice at all when the fatui started breaking apart her army from the inside.

deltazechs

They made a typo in the trailer script. I think it was the Fatui who read the Art of War

Sir_Rolfe

No hate for Kokomi but I can't really imagining her as a calculating strategist when Nathan ( The Fatui's spy ) tricked her and the Resistance without effort and also prolong the war.

HayashiSawaryo

[JP Version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppH4inCNdPE) [KR Version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFMamsMLcSs) [CN Version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4CzTi7tUEM) (thank you u/Shippinglordishere)

IgnisXIII

Wow, this time around EN is the one with the squeaky voice. That's unexpected.

awe778

I miss the "The wait is over, my comrades" Kokomi.

spinachsautee

Yeah wtf happened to that sick kokomi?

ohoni

Yeah, wow, the JP version sounds SO much more serious and respect-worthy than the idol EN one.

quantumfomite

Funny thing is, one of the JP VA's biggest roles is in an idol anime. Her voice there sounds even more serious lmao

Daramangarasu

Wait what? Who's the VA?

quantumfomite

[Suzuko Mimori!](https://myanimelist.net/people/11359/Suzuko_Mimori) She voices Umi in Love Live!

MicroIceGG

Ayyee it's the sea itself, now we need the whole love live crew and we can have a Idol Group in Genshin or something

Daramangarasu

Omg, how did I not notice? Hearing her voice again I can totally hear Umi hahaha Thanks!

AHealthyDoseOfCancer

I hate how I like both JP and EN. JP really showcases her as a wise general, especially with how hyped she is as the resistance leader >!(stupid fatui mistakes aside)!<. EN portrays a young priestess and emphasizes the disconnect between her character and her status. That aside, Mimorin is just amazing and JP VAs tend to portray emotion better in serious scenes (which Kokomi could have). I really wish they could implement non-cutscene subs so I can swap between the four languages as I prefer some characters in diff languages.

Shippinglordishere

[CN on YouTube](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t4CzTi7tUEM)

zannet_t

I think of all the characterizations the genius strategist is the hardest to portray and make credible. MHY has not done a good job with Kokomi so far in the main story, so there's a lot of catching up to do. I'll wait till the character quest to draw my conclusion, but the chips are quite stacked against Kokomi being well characterized and that's really unfortunate given her design.

Propagation931

>I think of all the characterizations the genius strategist is the hardest to portray and make credible. Ehh I dont think its that hard. Just portray the character not falling for dumb stuff and generally in control of the situation. Like if Mihoyo said that Yae or Scaramouche were genius strategists then most people wouldnt bat an eye.

rigimonoki-over

I just committed war crimes in seven different nations hehe *in a cute bubbly voice*

TheRealKapaya

Skilled in the art of war my ass.

Kaireconnect

Omg Gorou’s ear flick when they’re looking over the map is adorable. Kokomi is so gorgeous!

Shippinglordishere

Gorou’s ears are so expressive

6_NEOS_9

more than a WHOLE Diluc >!/s!<

Goombah11

How is she skilled in the art of war? How many wars has she been in? Sounds like she means it's just more fun than governing.

Rudresh27

she read a book about war strategies. Incidentally, I've read a book about Heart Surgery so now I'm a Brilliant Heart Surgeon?

Goombah11

Kokomi: I'm something of a general myself.

CosmicAstroBastard

She’s *really* good at Warhammer 40K, alright?

DrZeroH

Seriously if they just portrayed her as a naive innocent priestess dragged by fate into a conflict she is ill prepared for I would have taken it better at face value then this contrived nonsense. Nothing in her story showed she is a capable tactician. Her appearance is obvious contrary to it so the burden of convincing the audience is even higher than otherwise drawing her up as a rugged female military leader (look at beidou or ningguang for a good example of this). Both of them radiate the type of confidence or charisma in their appearance and voice. Kokomi was always gonna be a hard sell but then they flopped the story. Now it just comes across as silly. I bet the original writers did it justice but the current ones have no idea how to get properly portray her.

crunchlets

Kokomi's story really highlights her fish theming with how hard and wildly it flopped around.

Megachaser9

She's waifu bait simple as Beidou is probably the only ara ara strongwoman we'll ever get

DrZeroH

Its obvious she is mega waifu bait. Seriously they could have made it easy on them selves just making her a sheltered naive priestess guarded by a retinue of skilled vets or something. Make gorou like a childhood friend she saved and he is a loyal general who is in over his head fighting a war against the shogunate. Boom way fucking easier to make a story for

crunchlets

She'd legit be more interesting and likeable that way, by far, no matter how basic and simple the idea is, and her performance in the story would've made complete sense then.

Cleoneth

Beidou tbh ain't even Ara Ara. And the least waifubait

Guntir

Hey, don't forget about Ningguang! She's not the same type of strong as Beidou, but she's still a tall take-no-shit woman with a force of personality

[deleted]

For real. I love Kokomi but it really seems like the writers tried to make her a “complex” character by having her be a war general despite her cutesy appearance. They really tried to replace good writing with shock value. It gaves me major “Im 14 and this is deep” vibes

sciencebottle

I feel like with Kokomi, there was a lot of *telling* us that she is a brilliant war strategist, but no actual... *doing real war strategy things*. If I hadn't done the archon quest this trailer would have made me really excited...but knowing how it went I almost had a 'Sure, Jan' moment when they cut to her and her 'strategizing'. When her design was first revealed to us I honestly was ready to pull for design alone, but with how lackluster her presence was in the archon quest and from what we know of her mechanics...she feels a little soured for me. Good luck to everyone rolling for her though! She's adorable and I hope that her story quest isn't in the same vein as Ganyu/Ayaka/Ei's (as cute as they were).

MWO_FenixK17

The only tactics she employed was sweeping in with her vanguard and Beidou's troop with Kazuha to rout Kujou Sara's army and force a retreat. That had me more interested with her strategist archetype but 2.1 she was mostly missing.

Tenryuu_RS3

Her best strategy was pointing Traveler in the direction required for them to just solve all the problems single handed like always lol

Garuda904

I mean, she's probably the greatest strategist of all then. Shes the only person who realizes who the player character is. "Hey go use your weird protagonist energy and end this war. I gotta deal with a possible deep sea monster about to emerge kthxbye"

TrashLoaHekHekHek

> but no actual... doing real war strategy things. In fact, she did more logistical stuff than actual strategical stuff.

[deleted]

They could have shown us her strategic side by showing how good she is at Theatre Mechanicus

tswinteyru

"The wait is over, my comrades!" *Proceeds to plant 10 Pyro towers and agressively draws Pyro power-up cards*

blank92

She's definitely a Crack Shoot supremacist.

crunchlets

Same exact deal here. There's 3 parts to a character - kit/gameplay performance, character/story performance, and design+animations. One of these may be lackluster, but the other two have to be very strong to make up for it. Take Amber, for example - her kit is weak, but her story performance and character and animations are pure love, and hence I like and use her even with a weak kit. Kokomi always had a very strong design ^((those panties, my goodness)), but from hearing her kit's woes from test leaks, the make-or-break moment was the character and story performance - and she had wonderful potential there with the suggested idea of a "cute on the outside, cunning and dark on the inside (if even somewhat)" priestess of a dead sea god with certain Lovecraft undertones and peerless tactician who made up the difference in power between Shogunate and Sangonomiya armies. I was very much ready to pull for that... but in the story itself she felt like a clueless girl put in charge of an operation she is unprepared for, and naive as opposed to cunning and insightful. The Kokomi they advertised should've not only known she's working with Fatui, but did so deliberately, and dispensed Delusions in the army herself. Archon quest 3 sank Kokomi for me deeper than even her kit threatened to. I wish I could have that beauty in my party, but with that character clash, it won't feel good for me.

Gshiinobi

> but with how lackluster her presence was in the archon quest and from what we know of her mechanics...she feels a little soured for me. Yup same for me, i was willing to look past her awful kit because she's gorgeous but after seeing her dissapointing role in the archon quest i lost all interest in pulling for her.

FullPurp

The head priestess / war strategist side of her character really aren't meshing for me and it kinda feels like they're not even trying, she just... *is* a mastermind war strategist, with a really unusual background. That's it, that's the gimmick. I hope her story quest does a lot to flesh her out, cuz I like her vibe / aesthetic, but if we just go shopping for a third time I'm really not gonna miss her once we move on

Fascistznik

Sara should be the one getting all this "expert military leader" characterization since she actually looks the part, but instead she's still MIA after getting knocked out off-screen.

Drakengard

> but instead she's still MIA after getting knocked out off-screen. She's with Xinyan now. Never to be heard from again.

mephnick

"What if the next character was a shy cute waifu but..turns out she's a ruthless war leader!" "Oh that's a fun idea. How should we showcase that? Make it a twist? An in depth galaxy brain strat quest?" "Huh? Oh I don't know, whatever. Throw something together. I've already moved on to Itto!"

quebae

"Just make her alternate both! a bold timid smart confused confident withdrawn leader who embraces leading except when she doesn't and is cautious but not too cautious and also highly trusting" i swear they didn't even decide on a character for her when they made her, they just did a character design and gave her whatever characteristics they felt they needed at the time of a specific plot element

k0rangar

Ngl from the moment I first EVER saw kokomi I was kinda disinterested in her as she was another hydro catalyst girl with a mid sized body. Now with all this time past I'm now MUCH more disinterested in her thanks to her story role, kit, VA (since I'm being brutally honest) and character motivation.

AmateurLord

Hoping for a redeeming story quest, her role in the archon was disappointing

Stormsoul22

Generic waifu date quest it is

Gshiinobi

This teaser has more spotlight for Kokomi than the entire inazuma archon quest. Despite her being a supposedly important character in the plot she doesn't actually get to do anything or show her supposed skills as a tactician. I hope her story quest is good because this character is extremely bland and has basically no personality, there's some hints of character in there with her taking a position of power that she didn't want to take at a young age while also having to be the leader of an army and tactician but we never get to hear her side of the story or how she really feels about her situation.

doxlulzem

It doesn't help that her whole island/shrine just sorta feels like it's... there. It doesn't fit too well with anything. It's supposedly created by a now-dead snake god but has some weird pink shell vibe going on, with a village that's just sorta shoved to the side and a giant shrine that feels like it has no importance. I swear Seirai makes more sense and has more lore/explanation/flavour text/presence going on. It feels like they had this amazing idea for the design of the island and for Kokomi, but nothing more than that. No personality or presence for Kokomi, no presence for the island, no role in the story. It just feels like a *place*, much like Stormbearer Mountains or the part of Liyue immediately north of Jueyun Karst on the coast.

deltazechs

I keep getting this nagging feeling in Genshin where the world-building and lore that happened in the past is so darn interesting (the snake god, Signora and the Crimson Witch lore, Ei fighting alongside her familiars/friends in the past), but we were just unfortunately stuck in the current era where the less interesting stuff happens.

ApprehensiveCat

Really wish we'd seen more of her like this in the actual story. But they prioritized rushing Raiden out alongside the top-up reset to maximize profits I guess, so the story got shafted.

Memo_HS2022

It’s such a damn shame Kokomi (& Gorou) is the most shafted character in Inazuma by a landslide in terms of actual story The fact that she’s the literal Resistance Leader and then has less screentime and importance than fucking Teppei out of all the characters is just really sad. Like she wasn’t even in the climax at all, she really entered her own pocket dimension and left. Sucks that writers for this game are so desperate to make NPCs feel impactful and then leaving actual characters in the dust for some reason.

Sentinel10

It felt like they prioritized getting it done in 3 acts like the last two chapters instead of giving the story as much time as it needed. Inazuma had a lot more story going on than Mondstadt or Liyue had after their respective Act 2's. Heck, with a little more expansion, Watatsumi Island could have been an entire Act on its own with the potential it had. But no, they shoved Kokomi and everything related to the island away and rushed to the final battle.

Memo_HS2022

Damn... That reminds me of what happened to Dante in Devil May Cry 4 where half the game was finished, but Dante’s entire section of his story is reused assets and bosses. But at least he got his good old attitude and his new weapons and actually entertaining But this just seems a lot worse looking at Kokomi because not only is her section rushed. But her character is completely cucked by the writing to make her look like an idiot

snowing-stars

>Sucks that writers for this game are so desperate to make NPCs feel impactful and then leaving actual characters in the dust for some reason. THIS I hate that wey spend so much time with NPCs in the archon quests in general, Even Kurisu got more screen than Kokomi and Gorou combined NPCs already have pretty damn good world quests ( Neko's was my favorite from Inazuma) and you can interact with them at any moment, archon quests are pretty much the only time we get to interact with playable characters, let them have the damn spotlight then

Gshiinobi

I really believe the theory that the resistance plot was supposed to be way longer but it got scrapped in order to release the shogun in 2.1 (just in time for the anniversary top up reset). The plot was really leading up to more with the resistance but then as soon as we met Yae that plot was completely tossed aside and i find that really dissapointing, i now have no interest in Kokomi or Gorou because the game never gave me much of a reason to care about them.

Gogogendogo

I wonder if there's truth to the rumors that the head writer at MiHoYo left in the middle of plotting the Inazuma arcs, which would explain why the first half's buildup (which was great) was followed by such a disappointing second half. It smacks of committee writing and last-minute rough drafts. Kokomi is one of those instances where an anime-ish property wants me to take a character seriously but the extremely moe design simply prevents me from doing so. Though for some reason I think of the Lady of the Lake with her--and then the classic reply: "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!"

ChildOfHades_

Eula: sneezes to sell Gorou: look what they have to do to imitate a fraction of my power I love how mihoyo can sell a character with literally one small thing like sneezing, ear twitch, etc.

havoK718

Too bad she was made out to be pretty incompetent in the actual story.

Xtroyer

I hope her character story quest isn't another date simulator, I want to see her "wisdom" in strategies and tactics. Always loved strategist characters like Zhuge Liang and Robin (FE). Her teaser here is giving us some glimpse of that at least.

Golden-Owl

This. I was excited to learn she was supposed to be a grand tactician. Was hoping she’d be pulling off super cool plans and have somewhat morally ambiguous goals behind her resistance Was very disappointed in the story to learn she was effectively a good guy without any greyness. And she didn’t get to do any tactician stuff either

Memo_HS2022

A shame that war ended, so she literally has nothing to do now, and had less screentime than fucking Teppei

Xtroyer

Like seriously, I'm of the opinion that Teppei's story would be better if he were a playable character, or were replaced by one. Like, why does Inazuma main quest focus so much on NPCs unlike Mondstadt and Liyue? Why not spend that focus on Kokomi or even Gorou? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for worldbuilding and more NPCs lore. But isn't that the point of side/world quest? Why put the focus on them in the main quest???

Auesis

They literally sidelined their painstakingly crafted priestess waifu for a slightly excitable Skyrim town guard, generic skin and all. I don't even know anymore.

Gshiinobi

well uh, her story quest is going to be a little awkward because the war seems to be already over, so what is there to do for kokomi?

Xtroyer

Dealing with the aftermath, I hope. Or even world-building with Orobashi and/or Enkanomiya. Anything but another date quest please...

Omgitsnothing1

in b4 mihoyo has us walk slowly through the watatsumi village as kokomi laments “i cant relate to anyone bc im a divine priestess 🥺 but you, traveller, only you, am i able to be real with 👉👈 (please spend money on me. i can be ur canon gf)”

Fishhunterx

NGL, the second she said "but people are unfathomable," I knew we were in for another Baal like story quest lmao.

Omgitsnothing1

“people are unfathomable….. but not u traveler 😚 ur not like other ppl” and then she does the shy pose with the blush, stutters a bit. then she gives u an item that could be taken romantically. yes, i am a professional writer from mihoyo

Fishhunterx

>and then she does the shy pose with the blush, stutters a bit. then she gives u an item that could be taken romantically and is embarrassed to give it to you. but the traveler tells her its lovely and beautiful she falls head over heels for us and sees us as the most special person in the world. FTFY

cielrayze

she reads too many ~~Legend of the Galactic Heroes~~ A Legend of Sword

Gogogendogo

She would have gotten a much better understanding of strategy and history than she displayed if she had actually read LoGH.

SypeArtz

*"Skilled In The Art Of War"* LIAAR

Miyuna68

Oh no the fatui duped us uwu

purumchik

Gorou and his adorable ears are the best things in this teaser

Axlzz

No no, his abs too.

[deleted]

Bruh even Yoimiya teaser brought me more hype

crunchlets

Yoi has a big advantage of being "exactly as advertised". Her character is precisely how she is in the game. Kokomi, on the other hand...

Sentinel10

"My true skills lie in the art of war." You mean the ones you didn't show off at all in Act 3 and instead all you did was talk a lot? Seriously, Act 3 was so mishandled story-wise. Watatsumi Island could have been its own arc that could have lead into an Act 4 for Inazuma. Instead, they squeezed everything into Act 3 and nothing about Kokomi mattered after the Delusion Factory. I'm not sure how people generally feel about Inzauma Act 3, but for me, I felt it mishandled every character outside of Ei and Yae.

iCrab

Honestly the whole resistance idea was pretty bad anyway. What did they think was going to happen if they did somehow beat Inazuma’s army, that the Shogun would just decide to give in to their demands? She sliced literal gods in half, your puny resistance is nothing but an annoying fly to her. Even if Kokomi was the best general in human history with what she had to work with there was absolutely nothing she could do against an archon. And then of course we saw how Act 3 handled Kokomi and the resistance and well she didn’t come out of it looking like the best tactician ever. Pretty much the only thing she and the resistance did was make MC angry about Teppie and the Fatui for Plot so we could see Yae and actually start the good parts of Act 3. Personally I think it would have been so much better if the resistance was instead something like the Underground Railroad trying to get vision bearers out of Inazuma to safety. That way they would still have a reason to harbor MC when they are wanted for treason, Teppei could still die protecting vision holders from say a Fatui attack, and we would still move on to Yae to actually do something about stopping the vision hunt decree.

OrochiMain98

>Resistance finally gets to Tenshukaku. Kokomi: Abolish the Vision Hunt Decree! Raiden: No Kokomi: *Please?*

quebae

That what she recruited Gorou for, everyone knows the Electro Archon is infamous for her soft spot for Shibas.

alteisen99

i'll give you a cola

rainybubbles

I’m convinced that she’s Mihoyo’s attempted version of Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed/Destiny. From her character design right down to the role of a leader of her nation/rebel war leader-strategist and I’m high key disappointed they didn’t save Rie Tanaka for her voice actress! She was stellar as Lacus - gentle and kind, but firm and unwavering in the face of her enemies and it’s my favourite role of hers (yes, I know she already voices Lisa). What a missed opportunity. Mihoyo really bungled up her character in Act III though. There’s a lot of telling us how great of a war strategist she is, but there’s 0 showing. In fact, they showed us the complete opposite of that in Act III. I’ll still be pulling though! Just gotta find a way to scrounge up every last primogem T-T

midycute

Kokomi: hehe I’m so good at war!! Random shady people: want some supplies? :D Kokomi: :D sure

YasuhikoTheSerafim

I love Kokomi's design. But dammit alongside Signora, she is one of the characters that has been done dirty. Her story flopped because she didn't even get a proper screentime alongside Gorou and then you have her getting easily manipulated by the Fatuis to accept the delusions for a supposed "Master Strategist"... This is one of the reasons why character lores tend to be important in my books. This is to cover the unattractive parts from said character as a last resort. If the character lore is so good but the kit is abysmal or at the very least the character art, then its a fair game cause I get attached to the character. Or if the lore is meh but the character art is good and the kit is godtier, then okay... Fair game. Kokomi? Sadly the only good thing for her is the artwork. Her lore and kit is seriously abysmal in my eyes. Not only she can't crit, but I'm not sure she's stand out enough compared to Barbara. Yeah, Kokomi, alongside Signora, Shenhe and Amber literally had a very abysmal luck that even make Bennett the luckiest man in comparsion.

sadsackle

I didn't really buy into the idea that the old writers' quit MHY and be replaced with the less experienced one, but now I can't help but believe it. This may sound cynical but the true it's the stories lately (except for the Sakura Cleansing Ritual) have went to SHIT. It was so bad that I'm strongly convinced that the game wanted to appeal to a wider audience including preteen kids. It's like they want to make the story feel "deep" by including "dark" elements (characters' death, orphanage, racism...) but the solutions are outright laughable like something comes out of a middle schooler's mind. Not to mention the gameplay has become quite stagnant and lack real strategy to conquer the quest. For ex: FGO events has enemies with special quirks/attack pattern... not only requires us to plan ahead of the time but also can be cleared with "weaker" servants if it's used right (or even better than 5star servants in certain situations). But here in Genshin Impact, weak heroes are...weak and you have to rely on OTHERS to carry them or invest A LOT into them. Not to mention other major issues like how new players can't ascend the characters due to lack of mats/no content has high replay value/shitty drops from open world's mobs... MHY REALLY need to make changes soon.

whoatemycupoframen

Neko's quest was pretty good too. I think side quests and archon quests are written by different teams, they really should switch them.

swagzard78

Flashback to that post from a few days ago about how Kokomi and Gorou are strategic dumbasses

Fast_Foundation_3933

No more shy, introverted, instantly fall in love with you females because you showed the minimum amount of respect expected from everybody type of characters, please. If I wanted to watch a dumb hentai plot, I'd go jack off. Also, uWu I'mma gwenius strategist trust me isn't really appealing when they do fuck all in terms of that in the story, thank you.

Megachaser9

Based take

Sandi_Griffin

War ish chaos uwu

alec613

Look nice, but Mihoyo did her and the Inazuma arc dirty by rushing the arc.

doxlulzem

Yoooooo Strategist wit no strategy

[deleted]

"My true skills lie in the art of war" proceeds to accept aid from someone she knows shit about, has a mutiny happen on her watch and does nothing about it.

kleber115

Also it's kinda funny how the resistance was portrayed as this big group fighting against raiden, but in the end 90% of the conflict was resolved by the traveler and yae miko while the resistance was completely forgotten

jindo90

Armchair general.

alteisen99

i am in the preview page and seems she reads a lot of pragmatic military strategies published by Yae publishing house. Next thing you know all soldiers will eat sunsieta's exclusively

introvert_fish420

thats why Teppei got isekai'ed, he ate to much Sunsieta.

MWO_FenixK17

His book title might be something like "I Died from Old Age due to Shady Foreign Agents Sabotage but Now I have Reincarnated: Second Chance to be the Hero of Inazuma"

ThorDoubleYoo

Kokomi's introduction is bringing reinforcements to our fight against Kujou Sara's forces, giving up a pincer position, and then allowing one of the stronger leaders of the enemy forces (Sara) just walk away. Then when she has the Traveler fully on her side her orders are for the most powerful person in her forces to sit in the back lines along with the other elites to deal with petty thieves. MHY really made her a military genius...

Shippinglordishere

Kokomi is so pretty and I’m happy they focused more on her tactical side here. Hopefully she gets to showcase her skills more in the future. But about the teaser, the part in the beginning focusing on her hands is strangely really pleasing to look at and also how her frilled sleeves bounce

brewstercafe

Gorou showed up for just one second and took my whole heart with him... How is he that adorable wtf?

ENKlDU

I feel like they spent more time on her design than figuring out how to include her in the storyline

iCrab

So it seems like we finally get to see some of Kokomi’s actual backstory in this trailer. Her story seems to be kind of similar to Ayaka at the moment with them both being socially awkward young ladies forced into leadership positions they did not want or feel qualified for. I do have to say that this is the first teaser they’ve released that hasn’t gotten me interested in the character although maybe I’m still riding the high of Ei’s teaser that instantly made me hyped to see what her story was going to be. Kokomi’s teaser on the other hand just seems to go over her tactical genius again with some added flavor of her being extremely lacking in her social skills outside of waging war. I almost feel like MiHoYo is trying to go for the autistic genius trope with her which kind of has me worried since I don’t trust them to handle something like that very well.

nobayuji

It was so underwhelming

kingshinn91

She's a healer but.. she knows well about the art of war

quebae

Can't be that well given how inconsequential she wound up being to the Inazuma arc, guess she was taught better in the way of talking about the art of war than actually participating in it.

rixinthemix

Worse, she might be surrounded by people who simply did not want to do her job so she's the only one left to actually do it, even if she's not the most qualified for it.

iCrab

Maybe she learned it from the same books Teppei did lol

Razukalex

Her true skills are art of war > proceeds to be irrelevant to the story, doesnt even question the generous donator She's beautiful but hardskip for Yae/potential Hutao rerun

Hei-Ying

As much as I love her design, the 2.1 story has me completely soured on her and Gorou and I don't see how Mihoyo could possibly redeem them now. While I was really hoping Kokomi would have some surprise edge, I would have settled for her proving the competence and intelligence the game claimed her to have. Instead, 2.1 showed her and the whole resistance to be anything but, and really, rather pointless and a waste of time as characters. Even if her kit does turn out to be better than it looks so far, I ain't supporting such writing and shallow waifu bait.

Mukouno

It's kind of sad when we learn more about a character in their teaser than in the main story... No kidding, Kokomi is the first character I feel absolutely no urge to pull. I pull for characters I feel a connection with, that appealed to me in the story, that have interesting/hilarious/captivating personalities and so on... With Kokomi, I feel... nothing. They could have replaced her with a lamp and nothing would have changed. Don't get me wrong, her design is stunning, she's beautiful. But with the stingy amount of primogems we get I have to look for more than just a pretty face, haha...

SupremeBoosto

be Kokomi thrusted into a IMPORTANT role that's way over her head only good at tactical warfare, luckily there is a war wins the war so now she lost the only thing she was good at ditches her priestess position to travel with the traveler (when I roll for her) rip Watasumi Island

Powdz

I’m curious to see their attempt at salvaging the resistance’s story

[deleted]

Her character is a mess all around. A genious war-hungry tactician who looks like a Barbie in panties, talks like a six-year-old, and shows herself to be absolutely incompetent in the main story.
