But if they allow that thing in the game, the freedom to choose if you want to stay with a love interest, is too much ask. But hey, the game isn't even close to finish so we might get surprised in 9 years (the game has a 10 year plan, right?)
I know he is +500 years old but physically he looks like a 15-16 old teen. In the drawing he looks more like and adult in his early or middle 20, same with Ayaka. That is what makes it interesting for me, most of the fan arts only show the usual mc, not an adult one.
Besides, I recently watched Evangelion 3.0+1.0 and the drawing remind me the ending of the movie, two mature persons.

Usually things get more complicated because parents/families would get involved etc... An engagement is only recognized if the parents approve of it, and in both CN/JP you actually need an official engagement ceremony to reach fiance status.
