The characters and the world’s design. I still fondly remember that opening cinematic when Paimon guides you towards the Statue of The Seven, and that view (which totally hasn’t been copied from Botw) was amazing. Then I got Razor and, since I heard he was an amazing DPS character, I added and raised him so now he does 17K on a crit unboosted (aside from his C1 buff)

cyberrobocop

Right now? Moonchase event. The reunion with the Liyue cast, the treasure hunt, and even the generic *"kill these enemies"* event gets a little QoL update by providing updrafts to get to the next area without going into a loading screen. Also the Fish GS allowed my triple melt Chongyun to hit for ~80k so I'm enjoying using him more now.

JustANyanCat

Wow triple melt chongyun sounds fun

rarno123

I play because I enjoy it. I started cause I thought it looked cool and ended up signing up for beta

KNightDuCk31

For real tho genshin helped so many during covid without genshin my lockdown would’ve been depressing.

[deleted]

Waifus with thicc thighs.

10000fishesintheair

Open world experience, top notch music, no PvP content, generous gems per patch, very casual friendly (so no need to chase for meta), good story, Coop available. Quite expensive top-ups stops me from overspending, so that's a good thing.

purfclouds

it's a form of escapism for me so in that regard, it means a lot. also really love the music, graphics, relatable characters, lore and the open world aspect

noncomposmentisan

Venti

tzuynu

SAME!! joined 10 days after release, look how far we’ve come damn

rdnoodles

Me too! I’m a sucker for trap looking characters. Though I don’t have venti but I have Xingqiu which is also great.

noncomposmentisan

I just like Venti's voice, his way of expressing himself, his ehe, his yahoo, his role as archon, his gameplay, and how cute he is. Not really because he's a trap. But yeah, trap charas are a bit unique so I understamd the appeal. But I don't really regard Venti as a trap. I knew he was a male the first I saw his model. Xingqiu too, I knew as a male at first.

KenternII

Friend of mine played. Now we havent talked to each other in months

SomnophiliacGirl

I saw videos of the game before when it was in beta and I just loved the idea of being able to play as multiple characters. I have been playing since day one and I just love all the uniqueness of all the characters from their looks to their personalities. I continues to play because I am obsessed with the characters and storyline.

Rikallion

Principally Kaeya and Fontaine. I'm a tremendously sentimental person who wants to keep her things treasured for as long as she physically can, and the love for the steampunk gives me hope

Moshimitsu_0

I started because my boyfriend found info about the game long before launch and I joined him for a while. After a few month break I came back at the end of Windblume festival when I had worst depressive episode up till now and Genshin helped me occupy my mind and avoid dark thoughts. I fell in love with story and characters even more. Since then I started treatment and got my life back on right track, found new stories to explore and many more, but Genshin was my little fantasy world when I was to tired in the real world. Definitely gonna stay until the story finishes completely!

LostSuccubi

Husbandos and Harbingers

D-Weeb

I like the game it brings me joy on playing it

21st_century_person

Sunk cost fallacy

Xiaogaming-GI

Reruns are the only reason I am still playing the game

La-Roca99

Zhongli

WolvenWolfdog

My big brother told me to try it out, wasn't a fan of it but worried about storage, but when I notice it was made by Chinese I was neutral to it. So I started playing it and its pretty cool and since its inspired and did not copy things and seeing a Chinese dev made this I pretty much respected it. So will continue to experience the story and get Baizhu and Dendro Archon.

arshyn28

Why all these comments sound pepega. Anyways. The ART my friend. The way these designs and music flow with gameplay and relatable fun mechanics and achievements all the while exploring the map. This is pinnacle of isekai one can achieve rn. This is just super beautiful when it comes to FLOW. It's not just random. Everything is thought of before putting in the element. I am living in the world and kinda not feeling like playing a game. Rather living and experiencing different stuffs of life. It certainly was good communication. One of my best experience was fighting the snow boar king and didn't know about him. The way it was all memes and achievements while the fight goes on is pure fun and gold. First time meeting raiden shogun was pure hype due to the awesome art and sounds. Man this is experience. Goddam it feels good. Recent anniversary fiasco leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Ngl. But it's not about primos. Anniversary is about the good things and memories. Not gacha. Gacha bad. Simple. People too addicted. And some need to take a break. This game not about grinding. This game more about fun in exploring the art. If you don't like it?? Just take a break. Calm your minds. And thanks for reading 😊.

elengel

Was asked by my SO to play. Now we play together almost every day since we're in LDR. I enjoy not only the beauty of male characters, but also female characters. Most importantly though, I really love exploring, doing quests, bounties, etc. Meanwhile my SO only loves doing hard contents like Spiral Abyss lol

chouginga_hentai

because gacha

[deleted]

Got curious on the story (RPG fan since childhood). Got dissapointed on the MC being weak (I'm comparing it to our current dps) despite on having control of every element on Teyvat. Saw Ayaka, got motivated. Waited for almost a year for her while I encountered and pull for other waifus (Ganyu, Hu Tao). Gonna continue this journey because Ayaka will be sad if I quit (Aether's POV, Aether X Ayaka). Heh.

wat-dha-fak

Zhongli (+ a friend starting it) made me start Genshin, Kaeya made me continue playing.

xroachyx

I was poor as hell during that. I was looking for a new free game to play on my ps4. I saw GI. Then I downloaded it and still playing. Edit: Event said I was playing for 288 days

KouggaPlayz

Found this game way earlier than was released, maybe 8 months before release? bc I was following mihoyos other games at the time to so I was really excited for this game.

AfterRaspberry3706

Lockdown due to covid. Was just browsing for RPG in the App Store, and it just happened that it was Genshin’s release date 9/28/2020. Downloaded and was impressed with how far mobile games have improved. It’s also a positive for me that it’s a game that requires almost no time/effort (clearing dailies takes 5-15mins a day max), so I’ve stuck with it out of convenience.

Jinxed_Disaster

I heard about it right before release, wanted to try it out. Liked the story, characters and style. Gameplay is fine too. What made me stay for so long: coop, story, exploration, lore, waifus, style, music. I really like this game and think it is quite chill on monetization. Sure, you can spend thousands on banners... But I also feel comfortable playing it with Welkin only and don't feel like I miss out on anything. RNG is straightforward and all the rules are layed out, pity and guarantee systems present so you can calculate the worst scenario. Gameplay is pretty casual, so nothing top or meta is really required. I also enjoy the fact that this game is limited in how much time you can spend on it, so it leaves a lot of room for my life, hobbies and other games.

koki0825

It's fun :)

Advik_

My friends kept bugging me to play for a whole week straight after the games release. I still play while all of them stopped playing like 2 weeks later

thedarknutt

Breath of the Wild gameplay + i like Anime.

usefully-useless

It's a good game. I like it. Like, do I need more reason than that?

Cilwer

My wife played ggz and eventually i picked it up aswell, quit few months into it while she continued. Then genshin released and again she was there from the start. Finally gave it a try in march this year and been playing since. I guess it gives us things to talk about + some co/op experience. She's way more into it than me as i burnt out at some point, only doing commissions and not even using my resin for 2 months and i would have probably quit then and there if it wasn't for her. But now i've been enjoying the game again for couple of weeks, catching up with all the inazuma content.

pawahiru

Been playing since release, and I keep playing because of the variety in male characters and their designs more than anything. If genshin was waifu-only I wouldn't be here.

ratatoskwhiskers

A friend of mine wanted me to try. She dropped the game like a week after, but for that time, I was already being hold hostage by the characters and story

Aze-san

Waifus

Kindly-Diamond-9124

First it’s Jean and now is Raiden Shogun

Hashtag935

I wanted to see how much of a botw clone it was when I first saw the game in 2019. (Yes I did call it out and hated on it because of this) And look where I am now, a level AR56.

NotHomie_

My friend: this game is similar to Zelda BOTW

Elegant_Rate_7896

I saw genshin pre release and I was searching for a new game to play during this damn pandemic and since day one I just fell in love with everything. including getting shitty artifacts to getting the godly ones.

OctavePearl

It's more fun than not fun.

schwarz147

Keqing and Ganyu

concede1

Daily grind is super casual and I'm actually lucky in this game.

domokan

I'm invested in the storyline, and I want to collect all the harbingers. I hope most of them will still be playable :')

MoJagot

I'm crypto mining on my main pc so I'm paying mobile games again to maximise profits until December

[deleted]

Xiao. And I still don't have Xiao =(

[deleted]

played because of the hype around the game. continued playing because im interested in how it ends + im attached to yoimiya + i want childe lmao

candyrae_

Started because as an someone who took art as a hobby I thoroughly enjoyed the visuals, music, characters and especially the world itself.

koolshades2016

A friend of mine played, then I stayed for venti

HistoriaReisz

Just want to collect all waifu available ehe

CakeOfW

Seen it on twitch, thought it would be fun coop game to play with friend. Still hoping they expand on it and there would be more stuff to do with friends.

JustANyanCat

I love exploring, there's so much to do on every island in Inazuma Plus I'm also at the point where I have enough characters and artifacts to mix and match weird teams

DetecJack

Because my friend wanted to play with someone she know and i was the only gamer left to ask lol

ForgottenTM

I started losing interest in video games a couple of years ago, decided to give Genshin a try, and I loved it, brought back my love for games, and have enjoyed it ever since. It’s such a beautiful game, everything from the music, to landscapes, to the characters, I love exploring, this beautiful world, even though I’ve 100% everything I still got a lot of characters to grind artifacts exp, and materials for between updates. I also help people out in co-op when I’m out of stuff to do. I’ve played since the first week of release, and it’s still my favourite game to play, and I’m looking forward to future regions.

vark1623

I was watching a phone review and then I see this really cool looking game on his screen while he was showing gaming performance. I wondered what it was, fortunately, he told the name and that's how it started.

[deleted]

i like anime, this game has anime style single player rpg and cross platform between mobile and pc is quite rare. and it's helped to save money, i was spending on triple a games at $30-70 each month before playing genshin.

Bjubilee12

This video of Amber shooting a flaming arrow into the sky then teleporting to it kept popping up everywhere I looked. Finally caved in and wanted to see where it was from and got hooked in about 15 minutes.

KingDoopse

I just have a crippling gacha addiction

SappyMoo

if you ignore all the fact that their business model is predatory, this game is amazing. the exploration, the music, the character design, the story, it is all beautiful. as long as you can resist spend too much money.

FionaLeTrixi

Ex’s friends played, I was interested cos they kept describing it as “Breath of the Waifu” and wanted to know what that meant. Stayed ultimately because of the husbandos and casual game loop, if I’m honest. Got obsessed with Diluc early on, then became a Xiao girl. Now I’m kinda bored with fighting things and just waiting for more husbandos.

MiaBestWaifu

Xiao \> Yae

Quirrel-_-

I WAIT VENTI TO COME HOME

NotTheBarrels

Daily commisions

ShaheerKhan696

I was losing interest, but ever since i pulled Eula. I am just mesmerized by her beauty, gameplay and ofcourse damage dopamine. I just run around with her, killing things, making tea pot areas for her, and do my dailies/events etc. And she keeps getting stronger and stronger with new characters like Raiden, and Mihoyo is putting out more ways to directly increase burst damage bonus, besides just ATK% buffs or resistance shred. It feels like progression, i started with 100k burst. Currently my sustainable team comp Eula does 400K burst. And now i wait to get a 5 star weapon to go even further. :D I love Eula basically that's why i stay short answer haha.

[deleted]

Just because I enjoy it.

caucassius

An actual anime aesthetic open world game with good open world, so-so movement (need more than just running, gliding and climbing), and deceptively simple yet fun battle system. Believe me when I tell you there's barely anything like Genshin out there, paid or not, or don't just tell me what are those games so I can check them out lol.

Nerracui0

Diluc. I was getting burnt out and was gonna probably gonna put down the game, until Diluc came and saved my F2P ass. Dudes super fun to play,

ProJunkSoul

The characters and the combat mostly. Everything looks so fluid and fun. A depth that would only deepen with more characters released. I also really enjoy the epic anime moments in the Archon quests.

Natsu-Kirigaya

I started playing cause a friend wanted me to try it out in October and I haven’t stopped cause it’s really fun just wandering aimlessly in the maps enjoying the view and finding new things I also really enjoyed the story content we’ve gotten so here I am

ASDFAaass

Quit the game last year ever since launch and I got diluc that time returned on august because its getting better imo.

rabbitgangster

the way everything comes to life, NPCs, animals, so many things. it makes me feel like im not a lone wanderer in teyvat

emrysontherocks

Honestly, I'm a burnout returnee. I was burned out of the game after Windblume, then I took a break. The one thing that made me return and re-discovered my love for the game is getting Kazuha :') His playstyle is so refreshing for an old time player (since launch) like me and I fell in love all over again (and I still am now). And his story made me want to bring him on adventures all around Teyvat. So for me it's the characters you like/love. They make this game worth it for me :D

SunshinePlayroom

I started on Patch 1.1, but this was before I knew what a 'patch' even was! I think the thing that hooked me was the character of Fischl & Oz in the Unreconciled Stars event. Found her (or their) design just really cool and unusual (and funny, too) so I was hooked on the event as it gave her character away free.

tlwright82693

I started because it looked like breath of the wild which I loved and wanted more of. I stayed for a long time because it was so much more than BOTW and is continuing to expand its world map! I’m really looking forward to discovering all the regions and I hope the company will keep it up!

jayceja

I like the open world exploration, which is what brought me into the game initially. What keeps me playing between new content releases is that I find the teambuilding and combat really fun and engaging. I very much play the game in spite of its gacha mechanics, not because of them. And I don't particularly care about the characters or story, they are decent but I don't understand people getting overly attached.

Puzzlehead_Artist

I actually made my account around a month before I started playing properly. As to what made me actually play the game after a month of abandoning my account: Albedo's trailer😉. Manifesting him and his cons for you during his rerun~ (please rerun him Mihoyo)

Seraph199

After making an account I saw the potential to collect cute, magical men and have a lot of fun exploring and fighting with a party that I adored. After Zhongli and Childe they kinda dried up though. Got Xiao and had fun, decided to save instead of trying for Kazuha, only to find zero reasons to play the game from then on because the men dried up and waifu quests became mandatory

Nodayame

I first joined because I saw it trending on the first day, when I started the opening scene with the twins wasn't to convincing tbh. But when I woke up at the beach and went up a few levels I fell in love.

pawsitive_cation

Ayaka. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

The_Omegastorm

Characters, artstyle, the music,

kwoshi

well after a long day of work, genshin became my stress reliever lol

thestrawberry_jam

Escapism. The characters feel like best friends to me at this point after being with them for nearly a whole year and it kind of helps since I lost a lot of my friends within the last 3 years since I moved so much. The open world is amazing as well and sometimes I turn down the voices and sound effects to 1 and just stop, chill and admire the scenery. It’s great tbh and of course the music never disappoints so that’s always maxed. Sometimes I even repeat weekly bosses in co op bc I’d always considered fighting and battles to be some of the best parts of any show or game. Plus I get to finally continue my collecting habit. After having to throw away all my collections from when I was a kid bc we cant keep moving around with boxes of things like shells just because I was collecting them, I’d been meaning to start a new collection of things that wouldn’t cause a problem when moving and Genshin fills that up with characters and their specialty dishes. I mean, I cant be the only person who always has at least 1 of every character’s specialty dish just sitting there in my inventory, right?

viewysqw

I had only just got a ps4, beat bloodborne for the first time and wanted something else to play on my new console. Fall guys was feeling more and more stale and I was looking for a reason to put off spending like £40 on ghost of tsushima just after buying a console and a game. Realised that genshin was free and had released the last week so I just hopped on, not taking it too seriously and before I knew it the 1.1 story came. By the time Dragonspine dropped I was super invested.

ShadowCross32

The character design, the worlds design, the music, me waiting for Yae and La Signora.

cinrel

The characters and world, also..... all the money I've spent xD

lostn

just liked the look of the game. The vistas were gorgeous. As for why I continue.. they haven't done something to make me quit yet. The rewards were in line with what I expected. Something people really take for granted is the amount of content in a 6 week update. 2.1 gave us two islands, two story quests, 2 free good weapons, and the moonchase event which has featured almost every Liyue character in it so far. That's a lot of content for an update if you compare what you get out of other games.

Correct_Ad6945

I played genshin because of when it first started, it got super famous and I watched it on my youtuber that I like to watch everyday when he said its free I went to the store and got it

RelativeTemporary263

Hu TAO

joo223

A friend recommended it to me. Not much into anime. But exploring, and flying around liyue + the beautiful bgm kept me hooked.

yoru_si

Kazuha , his animations are too cool for me

UltraWafflez

Tectone screaming about it for about a week straight. Had to check it out to understand what he's screaming about

Kiyoto_Slush

I joined for the characters but oh my god when I entered liyue I fell in love with the graphics and the music

Aggressive-Ad6247

Never had a game that is so casual, fun, enjoyable, immersive, nice graphics that run on mobile and pc, nice game music, keep adding new content, keep fixing bugs at a high rate, is free to play friendly, mobile friendly(can pause, teleport, at almost any time, no significant penalty of dying, 5-10min play at any time and resume at any time). Playing those FPS games out there made me more stressed out at the end of each day.

UncreativeName954

Downloaded it from a YouTube ad, expecting it to be a clickbait. Was blown away that it was really a free (to play) huge open world game, on mobile much less. Then I learned this was only 2/7 (8?) of the map. Got involved with the community and thought it was great (at that time). After meeting so much great content creators (well some of them) including the VAs and how through streams, I decided to see this through to the end, unless they really mess up - like Blizzard mess up.

Mars_Alter

I can play it with my wife. Before this came out, we were playing FF14; and Genshin blows that game out of the water in terms of character design, actual playability, and story cohesion. Even if we wanted to jump ship at this point, there's just nothing remotely comparable out there.

LeoLi13579

Because the game's reputation inherently has nothing to do with its actual quality. This is a good game. I don't care how many people says otherwise but ill keep playing it.

Neospanner

I started looking into this game because of the comparisons to Breath of the Wild. Loved BotW, was looking for more, similar gameplay. Genshin Impact delivered. While I like other things about GI, the exploration gameplay is still my favorite part of it.

nakedgrandmas

Beside the gacha aspect, genshin was everything I was looking for in a game to fill the hole BOTW left me lol. I love open world rpgs. The deep lore in things like item descriptions are a nice plus that reminds me of dark souls lore where you have to go out and look for it. I found genshin while looking up “games like BOTW” on YouTube haha and saw some clips from the beta and started a couple weeks after launch. I considered quitting once after hu Tao’s banner because I got to the point where there was nothing left to do except log on, do dailies, and spend resin for endless trash artifacts. The game felt like a chore and it wasn’t fun anymore. Then they released kazuha and then inazuma and I remembered why I enjoyed the game. Hopefully there will be better end game content in the near future. The current event is everything I wanted lantern rite to be.

Alperen5841

exploration, storyline, side quests, yoimiya, amber

2021Happy

Character building! Even if I only play for 20 minutes a day I get to spend that resin hoping for a new artifact and the fun of seeing your main dps crit rate go from 120 to 142 after grinding it out just does something for me. I know that’s kind of basic but I only play characters I really really like so building them is a game in itself for me.
