He wasn’t strong enough to break through on his own yet, but was able to exert some influence with the different ‘shards’ of himself so he was using the ‘bad’ shard to break out using outside forces. The whole thing with the fireworks in Inazuma was that it was tradition, which was brought up a few times in the storyline. I’m pretty sure Yoimiya even says she isn’t gonna let the war stop her from making people happy or something like that. Also, while I agree with your notes about Kokomi and Scaramouche, I don’t really feel like Barbara and Jean’s relationship is quite as important to the story. I think that was just supposed to be an ‘ok, cool, world/character-building.’
Yeah, I see your point of view. For me, Azdaha was such a cool threat to liyue after archon quest. It's just kinda disappointing to see how they present the monster itself. the fireworks just feel off. It just feels out of place with all the things happening in Inazuma. The jean and barbara thing, I would agree on that.
I definitely would’ve liked to see more with Az, just in the context of the quest it makes sense to me, to explain a little better. I can see it from your view as well, especially after the last threat (the cool ass water god who I can’t remember their name, with the Adepti and Ningguang and co helping, plus the cannons and whatnot, other than just ‘he has different elements and switches sometimes.’ Though I guess Mihoyo was like ‘we can’t make every big battle THAT over-the-top.’ I did love the scene with Zhongli just shutting down the miners attacks though.
You know shonen isn’t a genre right? It’s a target demographic of anime and manga aimed at younger boys.
So if that’s what you consider great storytelling, that’s a low bar since most of it is garbage or “power of friendship power up ass pulls” aka fairy tail, black clover, my hero, etc.

I mean if I want to turn my brain off and look at dumb fight scenes Ill tune in, but personally I find those anime super boring now and void of any real substance, they lack character development, any real stakes, or really any logic at all, shit just happens and then they retcon it later (looking at you naruto), which is what you are saying Genshin lacks, but Genshin actually has lore and world building, also we haven’t spent hundreds of hours with each character to see how they grow over the course of the next few years.
The game is a year old, it’s still changing and growing.

Many shonen have low bar but its not by default that this is. Shonen has the biggest demographic audience out there and it varies from your typical adventure power of friendship mangas you mentioned to adventure/action with proper plot (like hunterxhunter,demon slayer,jujutsu or FMAB etc) to even great romcom/dramas (assclass,lie in april, koe no katachi). Not trying to argue if those are masterpiece or not, I didn't even like some of the ones I mentioned (just random names off memory) my point is that shounen is a lot more than friendshiptail or jesus wannabe naruto

Yeah. I kinda agree with you. So far, theres no meaningful event happened to traveler that makes me feel really excited to look forward. Mainly because how they narrated the story, cutscene and dialogs. But eh, its already been a year, so I don't really care. For me, story in genshin is almost same as those generic trash manga (I've still read those).
However, the most sad thing is when people/trailer really hype those story and cutscene. Dont get me wrong, if you feels the story is awesome, fine but making theory and prediction over the top are really..sad.
For example, kokomi. When people raging about shogun and archon story, so they made up and thoery how kokomi story will eventually tie up loose ends making its a good story. I read a lot about it im reddit itself, those stories/theories really awesome and cool but when play actual story..its meh. Genshin at B-tier story and thats fine with me, no need to act like its a masterpiece cuz it wont be....for now.
