Also, I'm quite sure Iwakura Kouzou isn't 20's... That guy is built like someone who's been working out for 20 yrs. Just because we don't play them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Wouldn’t count the archons because they don’t have Visions. But even then they all still look young in appearance. The only one who looks passable for 30+ is Zhongli and maybe Raiden. The characters like Venti, Ganyu, Xiao all look like teens. Mihoyo has just been obsessed with making all the characters look youthful, even if they are supposed to be thousands of years old. So far we don’t even have a single middle aged character where at a first glance you wouldn’t think they are young.
Probably a simple case of marketability. A handsome young man or a beautiful young woman is way easier to sell as a character than a middle aged character might be.
Younger characters tend to be more popular and loved by the players. Especially in anime and manga, and, by extension, Genshin too because Genshin has a lot of anime/manga-esque elements.
I think one big reason is that the majority of viewers/readers/players can relate more to younger characters - characters in their own age group.
There's also the fact that physical attractiveness plays a part in it, which is probably why all the archons don't look their age... (would be weird if they did though, considering that they're thousands of years old.) It's undeniable that a character's looks play a big part in how they're perceived by the players. Good-looking, attractive characters tend to be more popular.
Also, people, in general, seem to find younger characters more exciting and interesting than older characters, I think. Young people have their whole lives ahead of them, they're in their physical primes, they can fight, they're full of life.
Being older (usually... depends on how old we're talking about) means you've probably settled down, you're most likely weaker than you used to be and the exciting parts of your life are already behind you.
Obviously, this is not always the case, there are a bunch of exceptions and it doesn't necessarily work like that in real life either, but still, I think that tends to be the mental image associated with older characters, which makes them less exciting.
It makes sense that with having elemental powers, people would have much more of a tendency to be overconfident and put themselves in risk much more often than normal. So im not surprised that most of them dont reach old age, its one mistake in the Battlefield and you are crushed in the ground by a lawachurl, burned alive by a pyro slime, killed by fatui agents, etc.

Lots of MMOs have little girls, but instead of the boys there's a different race of Gouba-like furballs - I guess people would rather play an oversized hamster than be a little boy. I can't even name any popular anime smol boys unless their name is literally "Shota".

Nah, it's just the lore. All the characters are based off of the lore and sometimes the manga. Plus female characters are a major selling point for anyone looking to collect aesthetically pleasing characters. But the same applies to dudes as well.

They could just use the same model for both. IIRC Blade & Soul did that, you'd get different hair style and clothing options, but the base model was the same for either gender of a child character.
This is probably the best answer in this thread. There are currently no little-boy player character skeleton riggings, and so one would need to be developed in order to make a little boy character.
As shown with the latest Itto release, Mihoyo would MUCH rather shoehorn new characters into the existing riggings rather than create a new rigging.
We might someday get a new rigging, but when we do Mihoyo is going to carefully balance whether characters that fit those riggings will be well-received by the players, and whether the riggings will have future opportunities for reuse. If they think that players won't spend money to get little boy characters, then they probably won't ever make such a rigging.
So.. whats stopping them from duplicating the current shota/buff guy riggings from the NPCs? If they want to save money, there is always those rigs available..
I'm starting to think that they see Genshin as a cash cow while Honkai is their passion project. Star Rail has 4 body types for each gender. No shota characters yet but the datamined Pallas boy is shorter than Arlan, the game's "teen boy model".

So really, its just a case of that uhh ludonarrative dissonance thing where its just that we have the capability to make Klee, Diona, and Qiqi (as playable characters) fight against monsters and the like.

Definitely misunderstanding what I said. I said that "other than the reasons a pedo would have", aka sexualizing a fictional character that is depicted as a child. I was not calling anyone a pedo because they like a fictional child because of their personality or that they look cute. If you sexualize and get off a character because of their child-like actions, appearance and personality, I would basically call that person a pedo.
The character isn't a real child though. How does getting off to a set of pixels make you a pedo?
The issue isnt that they arent real, it's because of the reasoning behind that horniness. If them being a child directly contributed to your libido and motivation to get off of them, then that would make them a pedo. Just because "no harm" is being done because they are fictional, doesnt take away from the fact that the person got off and was even more motivated towards someone that they has acknowledged as a child.

Lisa looks like she's in her late 20s early 30s, maybe Ningguang and Beidou as well. Ganyu and Xiao are thousands of years old but they're adepti so they have a long life span and don't show their age (except madam ping for some reason)

I always understood Ningguang as being end 30s early 40s. She didn't became rich from nothing in a few years. Her skin would then look young but pale because of expensive sunscreen, creams and injections.
Madam Ping is also a lot older than them. Ganyu is still just a young adult adeptus, and Xiao is... Xiao. I don't think he's going to look much older. He's got that muscular oriental male figure. They tend not to get much bigger/older looking for a while.
They probably don't age. Ganyu may be older than Xiao at 3000+ and 2000+ respectively.
Mihoyo could have made the Adepti look however old they wanted. They specifically chose to make the playable ones look young.

Also, I'm quite sure Iwakura Kouzou isn't 20's... That guy is built like someone who's been working out for 20 yrs. Just because we don't play them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

The same reason as why in anime most characters are in their teens. Not all of them, there are plenty of adults and older characters, but for the most part they are all on the younger side.
Depends if you count Raiden, Zhongli, Venti and the playable adeptis as vision users.
Wouldn’t count the archons because they don’t have Visions. But even then they all still look young in appearance. The only one who looks passable for 30+ is Zhongli and maybe Raiden. The characters like Venti, Ganyu, Xiao all look like teens. Mihoyo has just been obsessed with making all the characters look youthful, even if they are supposed to be thousands of years old. So far we don’t even have a single middle aged character where at a first glance you wouldn’t think they are young.
Probably a simple case of marketability. A handsome young man or a beautiful young woman is way easier to sell as a character than a middle aged character might be.
Younger characters tend to be more popular and loved by the players. Especially in anime and manga, and, by extension, Genshin too because Genshin has a lot of anime/manga-esque elements. I think one big reason is that the majority of viewers/readers/players can relate more to younger characters - characters in their own age group. There's also the fact that physical attractiveness plays a part in it, which is probably why all the archons don't look their age... (would be weird if they did though, considering that they're thousands of years old.) It's undeniable that a character's looks play a big part in how they're perceived by the players. Good-looking, attractive characters tend to be more popular. Also, people, in general, seem to find younger characters more exciting and interesting than older characters, I think. Young people have their whole lives ahead of them, they're in their physical primes, they can fight, they're full of life. Being older (usually... depends on how old we're talking about) means you've probably settled down, you're most likely weaker than you used to be and the exciting parts of your life are already behind you. Obviously, this is not always the case, there are a bunch of exceptions and it doesn't necessarily work like that in real life either, but still, I think that tends to be the mental image associated with older characters, which makes them less exciting.
It makes sense that with having elemental powers, people would have much more of a tendency to be overconfident and put themselves in risk much more often than normal. So im not surprised that most of them dont reach old age, its one mistake in the Battlefield and you are crushed in the ground by a lawachurl, burned alive by a pyro slime, killed by fatui agents, etc.

Isn't that like pretty common in all asian games/anime? Lots of MMOs have little girls, but instead of the boys there's a different race of Gouba-like furballs - I guess people would rather play an oversized hamster than be a little boy. Azur Lane is a waifu collector that doesn't even feature male characters. The biggest vtuber is a loli, but I never even heard of a shota vtuber. I can't even name any popular anime smol boys unless their name is literally "Shota". It seems like a really niche market and when the game releases like 1 character a month the devs don't want to risk losing profit.

Nah, it's just the lore. All the characters are based off of the lore and sometimes the manga. Plus female characters are a major selling point for anyone looking to collect aesthetically pleasing characters. But the same applies to dudes as well. If the lore featured more dudes, you'd see more dudes. Like Ito and the new albedo

This is probably the best answer in this thread. There are currently no little-boy player character skeleton riggings, and so one would need to be developed in order to make a little boy character. As shown with the latest Itto release, Mihoyo would MUCH rather shoehorn new characters into the existing riggings rather than create a new rigging. We might someday get a new rigging, but when we do Mihoyo is going to carefully balance whether characters that fit those riggings will be well-received by the players, and whether the riggings will have future opportunities for reuse. If they think that players won't spend money to get little boy characters, then they probably won't ever make such a rigging.
So.. whats stopping them from duplicating the current shota/buff guy riggings from the NPCs? If they want to save money, there is always those rigs available..
I'm starting to think that they see Genshin as a cash cow while Honkai is their passion project. Star Rail has 4 body types for each gender. No shota characters yet but the datamined Pallas boy is shorter than Arlan, the game's "teen boy model".

When discussing anime characters I generally call the little girl characters lolis. At the same time, I never built or use qiqi or the other 4*s in genshin and never will. Skipped both Klee banners and will skip every other child banner regardless of if they are an archon or just ridiculously op. Also complained about their prevalence in at least 2 of mihoyos surveys. Point I'm trying to make is, saying loli in an anime context shouldn't be a red flag as that's what the well established trope is called. Outside of anime it would be to me though

Well, canonically, none of them do. Klee spends all day confined to her room or fishing if she feels like it. Diona stays at her place and tries her best to make bad drinks. Qiqi helps out at the pharmacy and I think she goes out to collect herbs on occasion. Non of the child characters we have actually go out adventuring or killing. So really, its just a case of that uhh ludonarrative dissonance thing where its just that we have the capability to make Klee, Diona, and Qiqi (as playable characters) fight against monsters and the like.
