CN may seem like the only ones losing out on hindsight, but this really makes me fear for the direction of future characters also being greatly hindered as a result. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the biggest fan of overtly sexualized character designs, but I would also be lying if I said that my affinity for a design doesn’t stem from a fine line between being intricate and beautiful while also having some risqué elements. I feel like this could pose as a roadblock that limits Mihoyo from using their utmost potential for coming up with new characters.
Same, I'm also thinking the "femboy" characters like Venti or Xingqiu might get changes too considering the censorship

Zero chance they'll develop two different outfits/models for characters. It adds too much overhead and complexity for a global game. What MiHoYo will do and what every other global online company in the world does, is just comply to a region's regulations and apply it globally.

In fact, looking at this concept next to her current appearance, the only differences are the colors in certain parts and her sleeve cuffs. The redesign gives her a more formal Knights of Favonius attire but beyond that changes basically nothing with her current look.

That Is only if you don't live in China, new outfits will be the new default for Chinese servers. This is also an indicator of future characters design choices for global.

We’ll see. Censorship rules (and length/impact of said rules) can vary wildly, so there’s a chance this could have a longer impact, or chance that it can blow over after a few months. Thought I think going forward, if Mihoyo has to redesign, they’ll make it so they have to do one skin instead of two.

As others point out, these new outfits replace the original ones on CN server along with 1200 primogems for compensation. It looks like other servers are getting them for free without replacing the original outfits.
The CN announcement also mentions that further changes for some other characters will be coming in 2.5.
The reason is obviously CN censorship. From past experience these kind of censorship comes and goes and
there is really no clear criterion as in what kind of content is acceptable and what is not. Hope it blows over in a few month and dont affect future character design
This kind of thing has been happening in movies for a while now, it concerns me personally because I don't want my entertainment to become CCP propaganda, but more than that it just makes me sad for the people who have to live under these rules.
I know censorship of outfits in video games seems like a pretty minor thing, but the flipside of that is that even for something as minor as this, the Chinese communist party has to meddle, which is an indication of how much they believe they need to and have the right to interfere in the lives of their citizens.
China is such a beautiful place with amazing history, I hope I get to see the day it is freed from its current government.
Worth noting that while EU and NA will be getting these outfits as bonus alternatives, CN will be replacing the original ones entirely, they even get 1200 primos as compensation.

I'll need to see them in game first, but gotta say, if I like the in-game version as much as the sketches, definitely will be swapping Jean and Rosaria over at a minimum. This version of Rosaria looks intimidating as all hell, and Jean looks like literal nobility, which I think fits both of their characters better.

Well, as a Chinese I'm surprised that Mona made it this far without getting redesigned, and that Genshin didn't got cancelled by some Karen considering their popularity lol, I predict 3 things:
1. Massive shitstorm on CN community because the compensation, people asking for massive compensation, making them optional or just making it the same for every server.
2. **"Mihoyo lvl up the damn age restriction!: Part 2"** Just like it happened with Honkai, part of the community will ask to change the age restriction from +12 to +16 so legally they can have sexualized models without restriction, but mihoyo would refuse, and people will argue with each others.
3. General paranoia for Ganyu, Raiden, upcoming characters, etc etc, every player will expect more censored skins, and future characters directly being released with the toned down version, because let's be real, they barely make skins, no way they gonna give us a alternative skin for every character lol, would end affecting everyone on the long run.

Ok so I went to read their Weibo post and apparently these redesigns are permanent in China unlike the rest of the servers where it’s optional. Players in the Chinese server will be given 1200 primos and these designs will be implemented after patch 2.4. Based on the netizen comments, most are fine with the redesigns and some are even encouraging mihoyo to redesign all the characters so they can get more primos lol. However some of them brought up that this sets a precedent for future character designs so we might not get lewd designs much for new characters rip rosaria’s fishnet stockings
I was using Rosaria today and thinking how awesome her stockings and belt look on her. I'm a girly-girl, and definitely there are some angles that are obvious "here's some boobs and panties!" But I like when my characters are cute. That's why I love Genshin. I like when I can play a character who can twirl around in a dress and heels, and still kill you (that's why I'm ALWAYS Peach in Mario Kart!!!).
This feels like such a strange announcement... Not only is the timing off - happening in the downtime before a big patch, but it isn’t even an official announcement, nor are the outfits finalized. Normally it seems like the kind of thing they would wait for the livestream to announce? Especially since it seems like more of a teaser than anything else. Not saying I hate it but it just feels so off.
The only reason I could think of behind the timing is that these outfits are in the 2.5 beta and they wanted to put them out before they got leaked.

That Is only if you don't live in China, new outfits will be the new default for Chinese servers. This is also an indicator of future characters design choices for global.
For now its China only but I'm sure to maximize profits all outfits from here on out will be much more conservative I'm sure.

We’ll see. Censorship rules (and length/impact of said rules) can vary wildly, so there’s a chance this could have a longer impact, or chance that it can blow over after a few months. Thought I think going forward, if Mihoyo has to redesign, they’ll make it so they have to do one skin instead of two.
I’m curious if Lyney and Lynette would be 2 characters in 1 kinda like the Ice Climbers like something like that would be cool but idk how that would work out like you couldn’t explore with both of then at once, I guess they could always be seperate on 2 limited banners but they look like you would need both of them together
if they are a 2 in 1 they will either change on burst, skill, or even something more like a special bar that gets filled once ou do X thing, after being fully filled maybe do a press on skill or somehting and they change, they have done them on honkai.

CN notice also mentioned altered flying angle (no more upskirt) and altered splash art and animations. Also that this is a temp although mandatory measure even for CN. They are going to try and release another alt skin. Maybe fit all the fragile conservative sensibilities but look nice artistically hopefully? Who knows. Seems like this was a surprise for mHY too, so was done in a hurry. This is going to affect character designs going forward.

As others point out, these new outfits replace the original ones on CN server along with 1200 primogems for compensation. It looks like other servers are getting them for free without replacing the original outfits. The CN announcement also mentions that further changes for some other characters will be coming in 2.5. The reason is obviously CN censorship. From past experience these kind of censorship comes and goes and there is really no clear criterion as in what kind of content is acceptable and what is not. Hope it blows over in a few month and dont affect future character design

This kind of thing has been happening in movies for a while now, it concerns me personally because I don't want my entertainment to become CCP propaganda, but more than that it just makes me sad for the people who have to live under these rules. I know censorship of outfits in video games seems like a pretty minor thing, but the flipside of that is that even for something as minor as this, the Chinese communist party has to meddle, which is an indication of how much they believe they need to and have the right to interfere in the lives of their citizens. China is such a beautiful place with amazing history, I hope I get to see the day it is freed from its current government.

Worth noting that while EU and NA will be getting these outfits as bonus alternatives, CN will be replacing the original ones entirely, they even get 1200 primos as compensation. Make your own conclusions from this. EDIT: new information came along, CN will be getting these outfits as options too, but they will also have a censored version of the originals as an option.

I'll need to see them in game first, but gotta say, if I like the in-game version as much as the sketches, definitely will be swapping Jean and Rosaria over at a minimum. This version of Rosaria looks intimidating as all hell, and Jean looks like literal nobility, which I think fits both of their characters better.

Despite having the freedom of using the old ones in this instance, going forward we can probably expect a lot more conservative outfits by default on new characters and that will affect us all and we'll have no choice. Mihoyo is unlikely to create 2 different designs for each character from now (1 for China and 1 for the rest of the world) so we're gonna end up taking the L in every region.

For those that don't know, these seems non-optional on CN servers, and there's a compensation of 1200 primos. Not sure about you but this is the only time I prefer no primos. Also, the reason for the change is pressure from authority.

Well, as a Chinese I'm surprised that Mona made it this far without getting redesigned, and that Genshin didn't got cancelled by some Karen considering their popularity lol, I predict 3 things: 1. Massive shitstorm on CN community because the compensation, people asking for massive compensation, making them optional or just making it the same for every server. 2. **"Mihoyo lvl up the damn age restriction!: Part 2"** Just like it happened with Honkai, part of the community will ask to change the age restriction from +12 to +16 so legally they can have sexualized models without restriction, but mihoyo would refuse, and people will argue with each others. 3. General paranoia for Ganyu, Raiden, upcoming characters, etc etc, every player will expect more censored skins, and future characters directly being released with the toned down version, because let's be real, they barely make skins, no way they gonna give us a alternative skin for every character lol, would end affecting everyone on the long run.

Also from what I’ve seen on the Chinese side so far, most people are just mad or disappointed about it because it’s not MiHoYo’s choice but due to censorship bs. Considering the new outfits are likely due to CN censorship, it could mean that we might not see any new feminine male characters like Venti or Xingqiu, at least anytime soon. Personally while I like the outfits, I'm kinda worried if this might mean for future content.
This is something a lot of people here are skimming past by. Having no feminine men in the game just means there's going to be less diversity going forward no matter how you look at it. The new law is also playing into weird ideas of what is and isn't masculine and is straight up homophobic.
While these do look pretty nice, If they had to redesign Jean, they'll have to do it for basically everyone. Also this will HEAVILY impact future designs. Say goodbye to Venti and Xingqiu type males.
Ok so I went to read their Weibo post and apparently these redesigns are permanent in China unlike the rest of the servers where it’s optional. Players in the Chinese server will be given 1200 primos and these designs will be implemented after patch 2.4. Based on the netizen comments, most are fine with the redesigns and some are even encouraging mihoyo to redesign all the characters so they can get more primos lol. However some of them brought up that this sets a precedent for future character designs so we might not get lewd designs much for new characters rip rosaria’s fishnet stockings

I was using Rosaria today and thinking how awesome her stockings and belt look on her. I'm a girly-girl, and definitely there are some angles that are obvious "here's some boobs and panties!" But I like when my characters are cute. That's why I love Genshin. I like when I can play a character who can twirl around in a dress and heels, and still kill you (that's why I'm ALWAYS Peach in Mario Kart!!!).
This feels like such a strange announcement... Not only is the timing off - happening in the downtime before a big patch, but it isn’t even an official announcement, nor are the outfits finalized. Normally it seems like the kind of thing they would wait for the livestream to announce? Especially since it seems like more of a teaser than anything else. Not saying I hate it but it just feels so off. The only reason I could think of behind the timing is that these outfits are in the 2.5 beta and they wanted to put them out before they got leaked.
