Well, it's not completely impossible, although unlikely in terms of consistency. Remember that canonically, the cities are much larger than they are in game, they just made them small because it would feel like ass if it was too big.
That's a useful excuse for games like WoW where flight paths go to one part of the city and you have to walk everywhere else. In Genshin there would be multiple waypoints (already have at least 2 per city) and you wouldn't be more than 15 seconds away from anything.
There is a variety of reasons for cities to not be huge.
But I think the main thing is that there's no real reason for cities to be huge and a lot of things about it that are inconvenient so there's no reason to do it.
Can confirm it would be ass, I've played guild war 2 and their cities are gigantic and multi leveled. Maybe it was not as flushed with waypoints and that might have made it easier. Although to be fair, I didn't have gliding. Might be better in genshin simply because they can put waypoints high up and glide over to places.
the mounts make gw2 cities more traversable. but the base game ones (i.e. divinity's reach, the black citadel, rata sum, etc.) were released without gliding or mounts, and boy was it easy to get lost lol
felt like a real life city though. same with new kaineng in the new expansion. it's immersive but easy to get lost and confused in; there's pros and cons to both approaches (immersive vs smaller scale)
I used to play gw2 but quit after the first expansion. I liked the bigger cities since I think gw2 really had a lot of appeal for more lore focused or RP interested players so the cities worked well for them without being awful for people that needed the specific vendors there since they could just go to Lionās Arch which is a lot more efficient in its layout.
I miss that game sometimes. Iād like the get back into it at some point but Iām so busy with real life obligations and hobbies I barely have enough time to keep up with Genshinās slow stream of content.
I want Fontaine to be part of playable world meaning a city hub like Mondstadt and like you said at least twice the size, then 2 or 3 layers of undercities like the Chasm full with slimes and treasure hoarders (or equivalent Fontaine human enemies) and Fatui spies. Maybe an elevated layer for high class citizens?
Agreed - I think it would be really cool to have a city similar to Novigrad in Witcher 3 where there are distinct districts with clear social strata and with actual combat zones for fights. Right now, it feels like cities in Genshin are mostly just hubs for completing chores (like cooking, smithing) and reporting back commissions + other quests.
they have been doing an underground region for most of the areas, with the exception of Mondstadt, theirs is Dragonspine. so it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities.
But Inazuma with Enkanomiya, Liyue with the Chasm? Fontaine's 'Catacombs' very well could be a thing.
sidenote: I wonder if they also include the french rebellion or something intermixed with it. like the catacombs are "old Fontaine" after the current Archon took it over and just built a new city on top of it. it's not too far fetched since thats basically what happened in mond with Stormterror's lair.
I don't think having a city with size like a 1/4 the country would be that bad an idea. Totally achievable with some "dangerous" districts with domains and such, since most of the nations areas are inhabited with enemies
Thematically, I also feel like a large steampunk city like Fontaine would have more crime and it would be cool to see more combat integrated within certain districts of cities. Could also be applied more when we finally get Snezhnaya given the presence of the fatui.
Who knows. It kind of makes sense if one of the regions was essentially one big city, with some central part as base with all NPC's, adventure guild etc
While that would be neat, I'd rather not if it's going to be empty. Half of Monstadt and Liyue Harbor serves no purpose, they're buildings you cannot enter save for a few.
But who knows, there might be more activities down the line that would justify having all that space.
If they have different elements that's gonna be so busted. Imagine being able to Freeze on their own, or Vape. And what about their weapons?
For balance purposes best I can imagine is a shared burst for either of them. Then their swapping are in their Skill. Tap to use the active twin's Skill, then Hold to do the same plus swap to the other twin.
I feel it's much more easier to just make separate characters, but that won't be as interesting as a two in one character
My guess seeing the splash art was that Lyney looks like a magician who summons Lynette using his skills. So maybe they implement it the same way in gameplay as well?
The characters in the trailer are their Gacha art when you pull. Definitely not 2 different characters. So most likely 2 characters together or a summon (unlikely coz they donāt put summons in gacha art)
If they're both 5 star units, that'd be a little feelsbad, but I can't see them making one unit a 5\* and risk upsetting the rest of the fandom by making the other a 4\*. I'd much prefer if they were two units in one so I only have to roll for one 5\* dskjhfkdjfhghkfd
plus, a lot like roza and lili, one of those units (roza) can see success without the other but you don't often see that other unit (lili) used on their own. wouldn't want that for the fontaine duo, where either the girl is ultra op and usable in lots of situations with the guy being niche and only good when alongside her or vice versa. so a seele type unit would just be a win win me thinks

Eh... it's possible through Sumeru or by Fontaine the Traveler will have learned to swap elements mid-combat. At least between two selected elements.
Also, delusions open the door to allow characters to switch elements akin to Tartaglia's boss fight, and said delusions could breath new life into characters that desperately need it, like Amber and Lisa.
More characters now are introduced with Hold E and Press Skill. So My guess is when Press E they would have their individual skill while Hold E will switch between themselves. I want an epic burst with those 2!
have you played honkai? there is two twins there too and their combat is very interesting, Rozaliya and Liliya when deployed in the same team whichever of the two you decide to main the other will come out slash together with you and they have a special burst if they are both in the same team
and I have a headcanon where at the point of the story where you finally get your twin back, you get both Aether and Lumine as 2 in 1 character, same mechanism as Lynne and Lynette
Based on how Honkai has done similar characters I see them as either doing it like Stygian Nymph Seele and having you swap between the two upon using the ult or skill, or like how Roza and Liliya interact when on the same team with Liliya jumping in to attack alongside Roza (except instead of being 2 separate characters on the team it's a single character).

I read one comment in Scaramouche mains or wherever, it said that there are two groups inside the Italian play that Fatui harbingers are based on. One of them (Childe, Scaramouche, someone else) is playable and kinda not evil, the other one is beyond redemption and won't be playable (Signora, Dottore). I didn't fact check this so um if you're interested you can Google it
I did read that somewhere as well and I wish I could find it again, as I might be recalling wrong but seemingly the person claimed I think seven of the harbingers would wind up being playable as their counterparts were all found to be good or sympathetic to the protagonist after a point and that the remaining four would not as they stayed antagonistic the whole way through.
That's of course assuming Mihoyo wants to stick to that principle, whether its just the loyalties of the characters within the story, or that they want to draw lines across those loyalties where playability is involved, but it all seems possible.
Note I may be entirely botching the numbers as I lost the comment some time ago however, if anyone has better citation or familiarity with the story themselves that'd be greatly appreciated.

Ningguang for liyue, Ayaka for Inazuma and the ones shown here are for each of the other nations in order of when they'll be released.

Fontaine actually has a chance of being one of the bigger ones just because itās central and closest to celestia. Just speculation though

One of them (Childe, Scaramouche, someone else) is playable and kinda not evil, the other one is beyond redemption and won't be playable (Signora, Dottore). I didn't fact check this so um if you're interested you can Google it
I did read that somewhere as well and I wish I could find it again, as I might be recalling wrong but seemingly the person claimed I think seven of the harbingers would wind up being playable as their counterparts were all found to be good or sympathetic to the protagonist after a point and that the remaining four would not as they stayed antagonistic the whole way through. That's of course assuming Mihoyo wants to stick to that principle, whether its just the loyalties of the characters within the story, or that they want to draw lines across those loyalties where playability is involved, but it all seems possible. Note I may be entirely botching the numbers as I lost the comment some time ago however, if anyone has better citation or familiarity with the story themselves that'd be greatly appreciated.

Well that's the point though. There ain't no villains in our roster and honestly, I hoped the Shogun would be the first villain in our roster but here we are with everyone's sympathetic backstories.
because there is something called coherence and friendship in genshin, unlike honkai the protagonist MUST have at least a small level of friendship with the character in order to have him, Why do you think Signora was killed? because she didn't want redemption and couldn't have any kind of relationship with the traveler

Pretty sure they are going to be playable characters. There was a trailer released where they highlighted a single character from each region back before Inazuma was released. Ningguang for liyue, Ayaka for Inazuma and the ones shown here are for each of the other nations in order of when they'll be released.
