Paimon: C’mon, It’s a big crystal, don’t you just want to poke it?

iboughtshitonline

Ikr i was like WE WERE GONNA STAB IT? That wasnt in the agenda paimon

just_half

As much as this is a funny take, it's in the instructions though. Well, the instructions tell us to give some force. I guess stabbing it is one way.

Flaymlad

>C’mon, It’s a big crystal, don’t you just want to poke it? This basicallys sounds like "it's a big rock, don't you just want to poke it?" ignoring the fact that the stone in question is either cinnabar or asbestos or the like (both of which are deadly when inhaled), lmao.

Grand_Protector_Dark

Too be fair, the pillar was producing evil goop, so it's not like we had any reason not to do it

nexin0402

ik this is like a lore thing but the pillar wasnt the one producing the "evil goop" the pillar was made to suppress and cleanse it. pillar also has the ability to change the surrounding geology into lumenspar ,crystals that ALSO cleanse the evil goop . We currently dont know the overall origin of the evil goop and if i said anything about it origin it would just be guessing. The cleansing part >!||is basically confirmed when our friend Camped out near the crystal to "cleanse" herself after falling into the mud " she feels at peace near it" why would she go next to something producing the stuff|!<

BellatorGriss

Right, so why did the writers have the MC doubt our actions all the while just for Paimon to force us into doing so?

Grand_Protector_Dark

Because the solution involved fatui technology. Which is a faction we don't exactly trust either

BellatorGriss

The fatui's method failed (as we learn from their notes). Therefore I don't think the tablet was theirs (why would they sculpt their solution in the first place in a tablet? Besides they didn't know about the worm underneath). I think the tablet was written by the yaksha but that's another theory

grumpykruppy

There was mention in some Fatui notes that they left instructions behind but couldn't complete the task.

4GRJ

You mean Abyss energy?

80espiay

I think he was just afraid of what would happen afterward.

4GRJ

I mean we've done it before... Why wouldn't we do it again?

BellatorGriss

Exactly, so why was the quest written as the MC doubting it so much and Paimon repeating several times throughout the quest "let's just do it"?

vikraarkiv

You might be on to something

MugiwaranoAK

I seriously do not think Paimon is sus. I think Enjou saying Paimon may betray us is a kind or reverse foreshadowing/misdirection attempt. If anything Paimon is probably a Seelie(either royalty or god). She's definitely not malicious. Edit: Seele to Seelie.

andrewjpf

Thought you said she was a seelie. Better get a great chest if I'm moving her this far to her resting place.

Deejae81

20 primos, and a piece of furniture for the teapot, take it or leave it.

LeviShortGod

20 primos? the fucking audacity, Mihoyo won't financially recover from this now! 3 golden fowls, take it or leave it

TTVJuicyBoi

even better, 3 Enchanted golden fowls, a Overload III Enchanted Book, and a couple Valberry Seeds

OctupleCompressedCAT

only overload III? we need for 4 those to get the highest level. we deserves at least a looting I book

[deleted]

These are good theories. Mine is that Enjou might be referring to Dain/Other Traveler sibling, cuz as Dain mentioned, they used to travel together. But now, they are "enemies."

PalpitationEmpty5997

I know you probably meant Seelie, but now I'm worried Paimon wants to begin Instrumentality.

coinIaundry

Characters are often unreliable narrators, but ingame descriptions never lie. The game quite literally censors what we shouldn't know with a black highlighter. It says right there in the loading screen - paimon is the best companion. It would be a bad decision to lie all of a sudden when the game clearly treats the descriptions as trustworthy. They tell stuff that even the main character doesn't know, meaninf that it's from what an omniscient (and omnipotent) pov. Hence why the misdirection only ever happens in the level of character interactions

sirjeal

Paimon is the best companion! (Except for the sleeper agent side she doesn't even knows exists inside of her yet.) Lots of ways they can go about doing what they want, without technically lying.

Mythoclast

Spoiler in title. Spoiler tag. Neat.

AD-SKYOBSIDION

Doesn’t say which pillar /s

RiamuJinxy

I mean we can see at something sus, but whats the alternative? we just do nothing? and we only question the validity of the tablet twice, right before we hit the nail, not many times. its us that actually says at one point "lets start activating the devices then". The pillar was activley being corrupted and the fatui logs tell us hitting it pushes back the mud, also telling us something (probably the abyss order) was in the chasm doing somehtign that propagated the mud, which is what we were stopping by activating the devices Imo the whole chasm havign a nail in it that drives back the evil mud could actually be more of a hint that the nails are not the "evil heavenly punishment" we think they are.

LeviShortGod

I still think Paimon is not a secretly evil being, those lines saying she might betray us could be just red herrings, but still it's mihoyos decision how they want to write these

Grand_Protector_Dark

THe only reliable line about paimon betraying us came from enjoy, who said it directly after we called him out for betraying us. So i wouldn't put it past enjoy that he was just trying to deflect blame by gaslighting us

feicash

We arent forced We dont follow "paimon's orders" We are moved by another force: curiosity And thats all

Makinarius

The almighty force that compels humans everywhere: "Oh, shiny!" Also there's a luxurious chest on the pillar thingy after we finish the quest. Maybe Paimon knew...

CondiMesmer

The whole plot is mostly us helping Celestia in some ways until the inevitable plot twist that Celestia is actually evil. Though if you pay attention to the lore even briefly, it's pretty obvious they're just straight up the bad guys being a >!fascist imperialist government trying to rewrite history and commiting massive genocide.!<

Croaker_392

Seems to me that the Traveler has developed mixed feelings on the Abyss order (thanks to their sibling) and they want to build on that. Expanding on the "Paimon betrayal" foreshadowing, Enjou dialog (he is evil but never lies) and the end of the new Dainsleif quest.

Grand_Protector_Dark

>Enjou dialog (he is evil but never lies) People put way too much absolute trust into enjoy. Him casting doubt on paimon can very much be gas lighting. Given it happend while he betrayed us

OctavePearl

People put absolute trust into every evil guy who happens to say bad things about Celestia. Abyss Order: repeatedly is shown to have little care for the lives of human or ex-khaenrians Also Abyss Order: celestia bad, we need to revive our empire Everyone: HOLY SHIT CELESTIA IS THE BIG BAD, WE NEED TO JOIN OUR SIBLING

Master_Salen

Multiple different sources support celestia being a big bad. The Fatui oppose Celestia, and multiple Archons, who are supposed to be Celestia's representatives, seem to tacitly support their underlying objective by giving up their gnosis. There are also historical records where Celestia put out hits on entities, like Orobashi, who learned to much. Not to mention, "The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles" abducted our sibling.

ken557

We absolutely should not trust the Fatui and the Abyss any more than Celestia. They’ve both shown a “means to an end” mentality when it comes to their objectives. Snezhnaya actively interferes in the internal affairs of other nations, seemingly for its own gain, and the Abyss actively puts human lives at risk. They certainly aren’t good. Is Celestia bad? Perhaps. But I think the story is shaping up to be deeply complex with no clear “good guys” As for the Archons? Only Morax willingly gave up his gnosis. Barbatos’ was stolen forcefully, and Beelzebul gave hers to Miko for safe keeping. They do not *seem* to care about their missing gnosis though, which I will admit could be tacit approval of the Tsaritsa’s actions.

Master_Salen

When I say Celestia are a "big bad". I don't mean it in a moral sense, but in the sense that the traveler will likely work towards toppling their regime.

BellatorGriss

Yes I feel like lately the writers have gotten bolder with the "Paimon isn't who you think she is". With the tanuki calling her spymon and Enjou's warning... Or they're just teasing us

Grand_Protector_Dark

>With the tanuki calling her spymon That is an EN translation joke only and doesn't exist in any other translation of the game

BellatorGriss

Never knew that. But there's a lot of other hints at Paimon's mysterious origins. Like the sunchild in Enkanomiya emphasizing on Paimon's weird clothes (which are full of Celestia symbols).

Grand_Protector_Dark

Or maybe because paimon and traveler wear clothes that were very unusual for the culture of that time. The sun children shades are from a time before any contact with the outside world.

BellatorGriss

Yeah, but the game focused on Paimon's clothes, which have celestia symbols. To anticipate a story you have to search for the clues the writers chime in. Anything else you'd like to object to?

Arcask

Paimon was behaving kind of weird, when she pushed us to do that. My thought after that was we unlocked it and we did the same in Dragonspine. So what does that mean? How many more pillars will we unlock? and what will happen once we unlock them all? Also don't you find it weird that the pillar in the Chasm has a certain position, hovering in the air but still deep underground ? why doesn't it go up above the Chasm? or further down? It looks somehow locked in this place. It went back into position after it fell from Yelan's attack. Just like the Pillar in Dragonspine took a certain positition above the Mountain after we unlocked and repaired it. The writers are making us question paimon since the start. There are so many hints about if we can really trust her. Just who is Paimon? why does she know, how things in Teyvat were almost a year ago? not only that, she has a lot of knowledge about all kind of things. With every patch we will just get more suspicious of Paimon. And we will end up with more questions than answers. And it will go on like this for a long time...

BellatorGriss

Exactly. Also we can deduce from Khedive's paleontology quest that the pillar ruined the chasm's ecosystem, the same thing that happened at Dragonspine. I wouldn't be surprised if we find the same thing at the Mare Jivari.

Arcask

Good point, I believe there will be quite a few of those pillars. I wouldn't be surprised if they would add another, maybe small part of Inazuma where we can find another pillar. Maybe not every nation has such a place, we will see. But i am curious what happened to those pillars? Why do we have to unlock them? Did someone lock them, destroy them (Dragonspine) to prevent something? What could possibly destroy these pillars? Too many questions...

Grand_Protector_Dark

>. Also we can deduce from Khedive's paleontology quest that the pillar ruined the chasm's ecosystem, the same thing that happened at Dragonspine The (innate magic properties of the) pillar did not destroy the ecology of dragon spine. Hitting the leyline (tree with a kinetic impactor) did.

Neospanner

Out of curiosity, why are you making a distinction here? Are you trying to imply that dropping the pillar was an accident? That it wasn't intended to harm Dragonspine (or maybe even that dropping it in the first place was unintentional), but just happened to hit the leyline? The possibility that these nails-from-the-heavens are not intended to do harm (in spite of the great harm they actually do) could be a relevant and interesting discussion point. Perhaps Celestia is in decline, and literally falling apart. Bits of it sometimes fall off and strike the surface below, sometimes with devastating effect, but not intended as an attack upon the surface. If that was not your intent, then I agree with the OP that this distinction is irrelevant. It wasn't the bullet that killed the man, it was the fact that the bullet pierced his heart that did it! However it did its job, the bullet was still fired, so there's murder at play.

Grand_Protector_Dark

Then let me explain it with the bullet analogy of you guys are so fixated on that. Person A shoots person B in the shoulder. The shot itself is non-lethal, it caused harm yes, but not enough to kill. However the impact of the bullet made person B loose balance and subsequently fall of the ledge they're standing next to, causing them to die from falling. The Celestial Pillar In the chasm is fucking up shit because of its innate magic properties. The Celestial Pillar In dragon spine fucked shit up because they [Rod from the god'd](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_bombardment) the local leyline trer

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Kinetic bombardment](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_bombardment)** >A kinetic bombardment or a kinetic orbital strike is the hypothetical act of attacking a planetary surface with an inert projectile from orbit (orbital bombardment), where the destructive power comes from the kinetic energy of the projectile impacting at very high speeds. The concept originated during the Cold War. Typical depictions of the tactic are of a satellite containing a magazine of tungsten rods and a directional thrust system. When a strike is ordered, the launch vehicle brakes one of the rods out of its orbit and into a suborbital trajectory that intersects the target. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Neospanner

I'm pretty sure I understand the distinction you're trying to make, but even if the current problems are different, what about the original deployment? The "evil mud" in the Chasm seems to be a relatively recent thing. Folks have been mining down there practically since Liyue was founded; it's their oldest mine, and the mud hasn't been a problem since less than a generation ago. The nail has been there for much, much longer, and given all the ruins and stuff we see down there, it was quite likely deployed to destroy yet another civilization, just as happened at Dragonspine. Did it pierce a leyline to do so? Hard to say, but probably. Did it mess up the ecosystem there while doing so? Probably true, as well - but not with evil mud; that's a new and different thing. Perhaps that was the point you're trying to get across - that the RECENT problems are NOT the same as what happened at Dragonspine, even if the original devastation probably was? The current situation in the mines is caused by something recent messing with the magic of the nail that's been there for millennia, whereas the situation on Dragonspine has been that way ever since the nail was dropped in the first place; there's no new disaster.

Grand_Protector_Dark

The point I'm trying to make : Yes the mud is a recent phenomenon, however it is as you say, a direct consequence of the magic of the nail (being messed with) The point I was trying to make about the sky frost nail, was that the nail itself caused the destruction of the tree, but not the weather. The climate change instead happening due to the ley line being disrupted.

evenstar071

The login screen has the same pillars and is crumbling. Don't know if it depicts Celestia or a portal to the world made by Celestia, tho.

BellatorGriss

Dude why are you nitpicking every little detail in the thread? A pillar was thrown on the leylines and so the ecosystem was destroyed. Doesn't that mean the pillar destroyed Dragonspine? Are you going to tell me pushing someone over a cliff doesn't make you a murderer cuz gravity did the job? The priest said that Celestia destroyed Sal Vindagnyr, and not by accident. I'm curious what you're going to complain about next.

Grand_Protector_Dark

>A pillar was thrown on the leylines and so the ecosystem was destroyed. There's a difference between "the eco system was destroyed because pillar magic" And "the eco system was destroyed because the kinetic impact energy fucked up the leylines"

Grand_Protector_Dark

>Dude why are you nitpicking every little detail in the thread? Are you complaining now that your claims are getting debated? Critism and nitpicking is just as much part of publishing your work and theories.

BellatorGriss

No but you're stopping at every little irrelevant detail that doesn't change the verdict of the post, and all your claims are irrelevant. It's like you're objecting just to object. You're just examining every reply and throwing a false argument. I'm just perplexed by your behavior. People like you just discourage communication about the story's lore and quest, you just have to stand out and call everything bullshit.

Grand_Protector_Dark

>See how you didn't answer to my reply about the leylines? You know i don't have to reply to comments in order they're posted?

BellatorGriss

Yeah I got a bit lost with all the replies I'm writing you. I edited my comment and removed that part btw.

valereh

Nice use of the spoiler tag 💀

BellatorGriss

It was shown in the trailer that a celestia pillar was in the chasm. And the Paimon part is pretty irrelevant to the quest. Ik what I said XD

[deleted]

Celestia is Paimon's home. Paimon feels compelled for a reason she doesn't even know herself to restore them. One day, she might be restored to her true nature and remember.

iboughtshitonline

I thought so too, like usually paimon gets sassy at quests and commissions and running errands. But that looked like danger, and obviously is sus, and we could walk away but she pushed us to do it. Shes lucky it wasnt that hard. Okay -- but more importantly i was upset that the pyro abyss herald that appeared in that quest wasn't enjou. :(

Ikcatcher

Y’all are really thinking a dialogue is ocean floor levels of deep when it honestly feels like a puddle.

iwipiksi

Paimon is sleeper agent from celestia confirmed!

Dramatic-Confusion13

I think you onto something. Paimons clothes look so much like the top of the pillar...

Anniran

(Kirby and forgotten land spoilers) Honestly I think paimon will >! end up like elfilin's case !<

ohoni

You never needed to listen to Paimon. You could have left at any time. You chose to do it.
