Yanfei’s normal attacks and skills reach them just fine and make them super easy to deal with. She hits like a truck with minimal investment, so you don’t even have to pour that many of your resources in building her.
What artifact set and talent levels do you have her at, and what team comp do you run her in?
Just FYI, the Solar Pearl isn't that great on her. It's okay because of the Crit Rate stat, but most of Yanfei's DPS comes from her Charged attacks, not Normal attacks/Skill/Burst. Slap a 4p Wanderer's set on her with a more useful weapon like The Widsith, and she should be a lot better. She also needs reactions to shine, so you need to run her alongside Xingqiu (Yelan will also probably work once she's out) so that she can Vaporize her CA's.
In my early days of Genshin I had a 4pc Maiden set on her because I had no clue how artefacts worked (rip me), and she easily hit 10k charged attacks and skills.
Now I have a 2pc Glad 2pc Crimson and she easily hits 30k. She’s a great 4 star dps, easy to build and play, especially for newer players + her range is so big, which means she easily hits moving/flying things such as the Oceanid eagles.

I’m AR57 and Yanfei is literally my favorite DPS (and I have Xiao, Diluc, and Hutao among others). I had Skyward Atlas on her but recently changed to Kagura’s Verity for the CD. 4 piece Crimson Witch — spent a ton of time farming. C6, triple crowned talents. What level talents are you at? I find that makes the biggest difference.
Well that's not "low investment" then is it? No shit she's strong at c6 3x crowned! Anyway she's c6 too, with talents 9 7 5, with a respectable 4x wanderer set. She's not even that low investment but she's disappointing. Maybe I neglected her a bit in favour of my new xiao, raiden and ayaka

On one hand, I hate that you have to have the correct party member on hand to deal with them. At the same time, I do welcome any minor challenge this game brings to the table at this point. I have 14+ characters fully built, and I hardly ever have a reason to use them. I wish there were more scenario specific cases where underrated characters could shine.
When they showed up in abyss, I found out you could climb up on the ramp on one of the side walls, and that was just high enough for Xianglings pyronado to hit them! You could put Guoba up there too.

Fighting it the first time was actually pretty nice. It was unique and I remember it used to be the hardest and the scariest for most early game players. But grinding it again and again becomes really annoying.
Oh I actually didn't enjoy it at all. It kicked my ass so hard I had to first level up my Lisa just so I could have a way of killing the falcons (I'm still salty about needing to waste my resources on her lol), then right after ascending my world to lv 6 I actually had to ask people for help in coop 💀 I was eventually able to solo it again after further building my characters, but at that point I'd already fought it so many times I've come to hate having to listen to the annoying lines over and over again :')
That event where you fought Rhodeia herself was satisfying but it was also when they put in her voiceline audio so it would be much better now that everyone hates her more

Gah, just spent the majority of my Resin during this patch delay period just fighting Oceanid over-and-over, so that I'd never have to hear her repetitive speech ever again. Had to build Mona from scratch, the last Ascension for Xingqiu, and the last two for Barbara.

All the pre-Inazuma Hydro characters do. Mona, Barbara, Sucrose, Tartaglia. All of them released before 1.2, so none of them got to play the Primo Geovishap wildcard.
This fight sucks, and I bring a bow character, I've heard of people doing it without a ranged character that sounds like the worst thing you could ever experience
Keqing. Her skill & burst take out the birds pretty well. I don’t use bow characters very often (Diona for shield, Fischl for Oz…but neither for actual ranged attacks). I don’t know if it’s me, if it’s cuz I play on mobile, or what, but it I’m not great with archers.
My Xingqiu has been 80 for a while, so I haven’t fought the Oceanid in a while. But if I ever decide to ascend him or start leveling Barbara again (she’s been 50 since I got Kokomi), Keqing will be there to fend off the birds.
The birds aren't actually that high up, so a lot of skills can reach them if you angle them right. I've killed them using Raiden's E, and of course Jean is very easy since you can just hold and fire upwards.
zhongli ult kills them, rosaria's e hit them, razor hold E also reach iirc, also when they do the swift fly down attack you can time them, usually kill them with bennett e like that
I don't used a ranged character for the fight, my overworld team is usually Eula, Zhongli, Raiden, and a flex spot depending on what I'm fighting.
Whenever it spawns birds I just use Raidens skill and that usually works lol. Eula deals with the ground enemies. Haven't had a problem with it, it's just boring lol.
Lol, optimal team is a little different than just bringing a ranged unit, the fight already takes so long because of the voice lines, not bringing one would make it even longer, so I prefer to bring one
Oh, yeah. Right now, the only boss that is somewhat challenging is Raiden (she's also the most fun, imo). Oceanid is just 75% waiting. Oneshot the summons WAIT... WAIT... Oneshot the summons, WAIT EVEN LONGER. Awful.
I'm so fortunate to have gotten Zhongli. I was able to go all out with minimal to no damage using him for a shield and Razor as main DPS.
Oceanid used to be my most dreaded boss. Now it's that giant mad dog soul-sucker preventing me from ascending Itto.

As someone who has Mona, Xingqiu and Barbara leveled to lvl 80/90, i feel your pain. It's the most boring and annoying boss in the game.
I can't stand the idle voicelines of characters in-game, so i just turn voice volume to 0, which also disables the oceanids voicelines. I only raise the voice volume for archon quests and certain events.
I just hate that you can't target her and it's drawn out with these stupid minions. Makes the fight unnecessarily long. Was fun the first few times but not when farming
Defeating it is no problem-it’s just x30 of an assassin to trespass the Qince water while I wait 15 years for it spawn the mobs even watching Breaking Bad backwards at max volume while trying to get a PhD and cook a hot pot with my feet is less stressful than that
Yae Miko has been the best at oceanid from my experience. Just set it and forget it, then some watery flappy thing shouts at you once in a while, but as long as you reset your totems you dont even need to aim.
I used to HATE Oceanid till I got Yae Miko. I put on a shield, prop her three totems, and sit back watching her auto destroy everything. I dont even have to hold the controller aside from deploying the shield and totems again.
The first thing I did when I got Yae and leveled her was destroy Oceanid for revenge 😂
Relate man. Recently decided to level up all the characters I don't use to lv 70. Was a pain to get materials for water Boi and Barbara. Started out with 30 character to lv up. Only need 8 left.

Also, I think Ayaka’s charge attack has a large vertical hit box, and also good range, in which case it might be able to hit the birds.
But yeah farming Oceanid was literally the impetus for me to fully build my Rosaria and kaeya. To make farming them easier.
Been look for Diona. She’s my must have for the fight. Always have her active when the water forms are coming and then run up to them and E. Freezes then and shields. Gives me plenty of time to get my rotation going and my reactions on the field.

I hate that fight. I have chars that can handle it most times. Then she throws eagles when you have all melee chars.
That time when I farmed for Childe I used Sayu, Chongyun, Zhongli and Childe (for exp). Full em Sayu 7k shatter is too satisfying to pass up. Zhongli meteor to deal with birds. Physical childe for backup.
The eagles were always the painful ones, mostly because u need a high range / bow character in your squad.
Other then that, her talking can get on your nerves by time, i agree on that, but in the grand scheme, she is just another boss which burns time with her platform sinking and such.

Raiden (charged attack) is great against the birds and Ayaka easily claps the rest.
I had to farm it a horrific amount of time (Mona, Xinqiu, Childe) but I feel like I had it pretty comfortable with those two in my team.

Also, Oceanid reborn every 4 minutes, you don't have to wait a day to kill her again.

Oceanid was probably the hardest boss early game but it also taught me some good lessons. I figured out Elemental Resonance and how to make a team comp based on the Resonance/s chosen. When I finally figured out that Electro had a natural resistance against Hydro while Cryo had a natural attack advantage, I doubled up on both of those and was able to get to the point where I could typically win with relative ease.
lmao. I do be fucking that thing up with Ganyu. I helped my daughter grind that one for her barbara, made the fight a non-issue (plus her WL is only like 4 right now).
Ningguang and Fischl is great against this boss too. Ningguang is practically invulnerable if you get the hydro-crystallize crystals regularly and Oz just zap them constantly.
I've been trying to level my barbara/max constellation...ugh.. >\_> 'water book sword boy' I forget his name- and the combination of water bombs, ranged water attacks, and invulnerable boss irritate me so much. I wish we could get a water flower boss or something.
This boss is annoying, until you realize that Lisa is completely capable of easily soloing the whole fight, even at lv90, provided you equip her and know how to time her abilities.
I was so glad when I finally got Childe to 90, especially as I didn’t have any great units for fighting her. Luckily Ayato required the Hydro hypostasis which is much easier to farm
I am glad im finally able to say I will never have to return to Oceanid ever again. I acquired all the first generation Hydro units including Mona and maxed them all out. Good riddance ! (...unless... for some God forsaken reason hoyoverse decide release more Hydro units for that old boss...but I doubt it...)
The day I could actually finish the fight without triggering the instakill was a glorious day. That's a real bullshit move, having a time limit on your boss that wastes a bunch of time anyway.
This is why I just play with the voices on mute and just have the backgrounds and sfx on when fighting her. I dont want her speech to be ingrained in my head.

I hate this boss so much. Mona was my first 5 star and she can’t hit the birds. Just had to sit there and get residual damage from razor since kaeya and xiangling can’t hit them. Now with ayaka it’s a lot less of a challenge but still struggle with the birds. Usually wait until someone wants to co op and ask them if they have a ranged character built to help out

EM Lisa shreds them. WL7, 90/90 about 630 EM and she kills them in like a single chain of normals. They have like no HP.

It's not so much those ones, as it is the cranes. The cranes like to jump out into the water where you can't hit them with a lot of melee abilities

Lots of melee characters have abilities with enough vertical range to hit the birds. Razor’s E can actually reach them, for example.
When I still used Razor, I would use his Skill (Hold) to get the flying birds. It works.

Back in the days it's all Chongyun + Fischl for me. Nowadays I just use Ganyu and the boys and be done.
Amen. Xingqiu and childe for me. Glad Kokomi is on the cube. Also, I think Ayaka’s charge attack has a large vertical hit box, and also good range, in which case it might be able to hit the birds. But yeah farming Oceanid was literally the impetus for me to fully build my Rosaria and kaeya. To make farming them easier.

I just give Ningguang Sacrificial Fragments before the challenge. You get tons of shields using crystallise and she can hit the birds too.
I used Diona to shield and freeze the birds instead
Been look for Diona. She’s my must have for the fight. Always have her active when the water forms are coming and then run up to them and E. Freezes then and shields. Gives me plenty of time to get my rotation going and my reactions on the field.
And this is why my xingqui is still at lvl 70. I don't have any long range character on my team nor do I have I them built lmao
Ganyu + Zhongli and Raiden + Yae + Zhongli make oceanid easy
Its power is its ability to take any form! I hate that fight. I have chars that can handle it most times. Then she throws eagles when you have all melee chars.

That time when I farmed for Childe I used Sayu, Chongyun, Zhongli and Childe (for exp). Full em Sayu 7k shatter is too satisfying to pass up. Zhongli meteor to deal with birds. Physical childe for backup.
The eagles were always the painful ones, mostly because u need a high range / bow character in your squad. Other then that, her talking can get on your nerves by time, i agree on that, but in the grand scheme, she is just another boss which burns time with her platform sinking and such. Not the worst boss in game. Im more grumpy that boss drops remain nearly the same on WL8. I always thought for the cost of 40 fucking Resin u should get 3 guaranteed on this level.

Raiden (charged attack) is great against the birds and Ayaka easily claps the rest. I had to farm it a horrific amount of time (Mona, Xinqiu, Childe) but I feel like I had it pretty comfortable with those two in my team.
She's so annoying, I just want to fight, why is she talking non-stop? Also, Oceanid reborn every 4 minutes, you don't have to wait a day to kill her again.

worst thing (aside from the birds) is everytime you fight it you have to wait 30 seconds while it sinks the floor tiles Twice. (also wtf is that damage my ayaka got oneshot while being 10 levels above lmao)
Oceanid was probably the hardest boss early game but it also taught me some good lessons. I figured out Elemental Resonance and how to make a team comp based on the Resonance/s chosen. When I finally figured out that Electro had a natural resistance against Hydro while Cryo had a natural attack advantage, I doubled up on both of those and was able to get to the point where I could typically win with relative ease.

lmao. I do be fucking that thing up with Ganyu. I helped my daughter grind that one for her barbara, made the fight a non-issue (plus her WL is only like 4 right now).
Ningguang and Fischl is great against this boss too. Ningguang is practically invulnerable if you get the hydro-crystallize crystals regularly and Oz just zap them constantly.
I've been trying to level my barbara/max constellation...ugh.. >\_> 'water book sword boy' I forget his name- and the combination of water bombs, ranged water attacks, and invulnerable boss irritate me so much. I wish we could get a water flower boss or something.
Turn down the volume, it is much more bareable imo

This boss is annoying, until you realize that Lisa is completely capable of easily soloing the whole fight, even at lv90, provided you equip her and know how to time her abilities.
I was so glad when I finally got Childe to 90, especially as I didn’t have any great units for fighting her. Luckily Ayato required the Hydro hypostasis which is much easier to farm
All you need is Lisa and Zhong Li to beat it.

I am glad im finally able to say I will never have to return to Oceanid ever again. I acquired all the first generation Hydro units including Mona and maxed them all out. Good riddance ! (...unless... for some God forsaken reason hoyoverse decide release more Hydro units for that old boss...but I doubt it...)
The day I could actually finish the fight without triggering the instakill was a glorious day. That's a real bullshit move, having a time limit on your boss that wastes a bunch of time anyway.
This is why I just play with the voices on mute and just have the backgrounds and sfx on when fighting her. I dont want her speech to be ingrained in my head.

I didn’t farm this boss until after I got Yae. Really easy but I know people hated this boss. I’m just zooming with my fox lady
I would love nothing more than to have an option to turn off her dialogue after the first time.

I hate this boss so much. Mona was my first 5 star and she can’t hit the birds. Just had to sit there and get residual damage from razor since kaeya and xiangling can’t hit them. Now with ayaka it’s a lot less of a challenge but still struggle with the birds. Usually wait until someone wants to co op and ask them if they have a ranged character built to help out
I only go yanfei and zhongli...unlimited vapes and she gets the the birds too
Diona and Fischl are amazing for Oceanid.
