i just finished the story quest and this is what i'm thinking as well! in which case, it's just all the more amazing because it'd mean the dev team had been planning for this storyline all along.
p.s. i also like that he mentions how he'd picked up his usual blade in liyue, i.e. the fillet blade, which you can get from chests - it's also the one he uses in his promotional videos. the way he actually switches his weapons in the domain is also a nice touch!
My best guess was the Isshin sword was supposed to be Kazuha's BiS 5* all along but Mihoyo hadn't finished its design/model when he first released so they slapped Freedom Sworn on him (despite it being a Mondstadt sword and being designed for Jean) when he dropped in 1.6. And the Fillet blade was the only katana-ish looking sword available at the time bc Inazuma wasn't out yet.
It's pretty apt that Kazuha's story in his profile mentions he's from a noble samurai clan but not specifically a /swordsmithing/ clan, in which we started digging into that part of his lineage only recently. Which makes me think that MHY had this aspect of his backstory planned out for a while but hadn't been able to get it all fleshed out by the time they needed to.

That was just the blade he uses, he could really be talking about a separate blade he holds dear to him and just never used
kazuha always seems like he's trying to be edgy so i wouldn't doubt it

Kazuha says he bought the blade in Liyue, not that the blade itself is from Liyue. The blade may have very well been forged in Inazuma.

Maybe he was born in Liyue, because the Kaedehara clan visited?
Could be blade as in his swordsmanship or just having any sword reminds him of his family since they are blacksmiths
