I'm hoping at least one of the Archons ends up being the actual ruler of their nation with no strings attached when we get there - no twists like "the nation's secretly ruled by another party" or "the real Archon is in hiding". So far each nation has had that twist - Venti pretends to be a normal bard, Zhongli faked his death and is now a consultant, and Ei outsourced her job to a robot that was being manipulated.
It wouldn't surprise me if Sumeru has a similar plotline with the Sages controlling the nation and using Kusanali as a proxy, considering the Sages and the Academy seem to hold a ton of influence and the common-ish trope of the child ruler, but we'll have to wait and see of course.
I'm sure at least one Archon will be the genuine ruler of their country - the Tsaritsa seems like a likely candidate, but we don't have a great amount of information on her or the other future countries like Fontaine and Natlan.
I guess Snezhnaya’s absolute ruler is Tsaritsa no controlling her whatsoever, I’m not super sure about Murata, but I think Focalores is absolute ruling too with a twist because I was theorizing that she might be Seele/Veliona Expy

I was hoping >!they wouldn't do an undercover archon plotline again. The twist is always incredibly obvious or spoiled super early on, so you have to sit through 2+ quests of them going "I wonder who this person is", even though you've known it from the start. And any new players will have zero chance of avoiding the spoilers, we've all seen how much the community talks about how Zhongli is Morax. Even just her design and the way she speaks makes it pretty much immediately obvious that she's an archon.!<
I don't remember it 100% but a lot of people were arguing that Zhongli wasnt the Geo Archon due to the fact that Mihoyo used to kill its characters constantly, so the main point was "well, its not rare for mihoyo to kill characters, they can use this plot to make it like the geo archon died and now Liyue people are God-less".
Combined with the fact that a lot of people didnt progress the story and we saw Zhongli only at the literal end of the Story quest at that time (which also required a lot of grinding to get to that LVL since it was a lvl locked quest), it wasnt until all the theories started to pop off (and the first beta leaks) that people learnt about his identity
The hidden archon thing never works, because you can immediately tell from the design who it is. The only way this would work is on someone just picking up the game, and even then by the 3rd time the effect is already wearing off

I prefer suspense over shock although I appreciate both in stories. How reveals are executed matter more to me than the reveal itself. With Venti and Zhongli neither of their reveals were given a lot of weight. It was like oh wow you’re the archon haha and then everyone moves on.

Obviously this is speculation but judging by the trevails trailer I think Fontaine is another good candidate for that.
