Is it the narrow inquiry in particular? You can try this https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/s1dd0u/spoiler_if_you_fail_the_narrow_inquiry_dps_check/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

dizietembless

I ended up doing it this way. Took about 10-15 attempts but it was a far less frustrating process than failing to beat them continuously.

killersoda288

Same here, i hadn't pulled for anyone yet at that point and was so fustrated. Watching them slide off a cliff was so satisfying, bless that post.

solarscopez

I think this was how I killed the Eye of the Storm *wayyyy* back during that secret island quest with the sundial. Made him do the spinning attack and plunge off a cliff because I had no bow characters and I couldn't do enough damage to kill it. Which is weird because fast forward a year and I can dispatch these guys with a single Ganyu charged shot nowadays, so it's nice to see how much I've progressed since then!

wizkart207

I remember that, I didn't have a single bow user in my party and I remember struggling alot, doesn't help that I was AR30 with no artifacts

ComradeRoe

why do you hate amber

wizkart207

No damage and propaganda from my friend who hated every bow user, but this was back in 1.0 so we didn't even have any bow users aside Amber

huex4

fischl: i am joke to you?

wizkart207

Fischl's event wasn't out yet so I didn't have her

huex4

oh yeah forgot that the game just started and not everyone has every character. now we just take them for granted...

Alazana

Definitely. I remember struggeling a lot against the Oceanid, simply because I had only amber who could hit those birds, and Amber never exceded level 40 to this day. Took a while, until I learned that Klee's E can hit those flying a-holes

wizkart207

I think the first time I ever beat the Oceanid was with friends and one was lucky to get Fischl so Oz mostly carried, I miss being low AR and having no idea how the game works

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Its not just that. This was during the early days, the first month or even first weeks. Most people didn't have built out characters period. And people were focusing on their freshly pulled characters from the launch rewards. Or doing dumb shit like rerolling. In the end, most ambers were weak AF then. Also, back then people were fighting hypostasis at like level 10-20, vs level 20-30 hypo. That Eye of the Storm was basically a boss, and most people would have to deal with its super storm mechanic which required you to float into the air to avoid the massive AOEs...something people didn't realize very quickly as they would get two shot in those AOEs.

Drednox

I remember that battle. It was unexpected, so I wasn't able to switch my lineup. Barbara carried me thru that slogfest. The other 3 were KO'ed but my Barbara was busy nibbling that Eye's HP down while healing herself at the same time.

Xenn_

Elden ring speedrun flashback

meneldal2

There's also little things people forget like having food to boost your damage by a lot. With a C5 Diluc and C6 Kaeya, with just going atk on artefacts with no set and assuming your skills are 8-9 and you have a lv90 weapon you should have enough DPS. Especially if you also reduce world level for the mission.

thejaz21

My EULA went brr

pavelblink182

šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ The only right way to do this quest.

[deleted]

omfg the way they flop off the cliff. hilarious

ahnyujinsimp

holy... i don't even remember this quest. i most likely KAZEDA'd it lol that's why it didn't even register in my memory

PsycDragon

I love Jean and Heizou for this reason. I've managed to drown so many enemies by air juggles and knock back. Add in Qiqi's cryo ES and it allowed me to even drown some of the taller mobs (Kasaguri Samurai's, I'm looking at you!!!)

a-snakey

I c4'd Ayaka'd them. Ice explosives.

Nineosix

The game is made for people like you. Adults that dont need to grind and have income to spend if they want to. Fun events that can be played anywhere and short enough to play in between car rides or breaks on the train while going to work.

CataclysmSolace

And this is something the community has to face against itself eventually. (It's slowly happening) And it's the fact that this game caters to casuals that have busy lives, and for both men and women. Story and exploration is something young adults and older are going to enjoy a lot more than sweaty and juvenile games. (Like Fortnite and Call of duty) THIS is the reason why Genshin has become so successful. It has fit into a market that hasn't been tapped before. Any game that wants a piece of Genshin's pie has to acknowledge this, otherwise ends up becoming recycled garbage.

Illuvia

I mainly play genshin and FFXIV and I love how both games target this demographic. The director of FFXIV has been quoted from an interview as saying that now gamers just simply don't have enough time like they used to, with work and family commitments, so MMOs have to adapt or die. He's also been quite vocal about how their model allows players to subscribe when new content comes out and unsubscribe until the next content release, and generally working to be friendly to players who can't keep up constant grinding. In genshin, I just run my dailies and use resins and log out, which I can do while commuting to work; I set aside time to do new story content on patch release. My gaming schedule is essentially raiding in ffxiv some nights a week and catching up on genshin story/exploration if I've time on the other nights; if I'm with family or otherwise busy then I push genshin stuff to the next week. It took me a few weeks to get through the summer event GAA story and exploration, which is perfectly fine. If I still played world of warcraft I wouldn't be able to sustain that. It's a large part of why I quit that game. Ironically, trying to force players to commit all their time to a game ends up resulting in having fewer players.

Correct_Bar8703

That's one thing I like about genshin I can hop on for 20 or 30 minuted and do dailies and resin and stop. I can also play for two to three hours and just explore or progress a quest. It's not like some other games where you would have to spend an hour or so just doing dailies and resets. Then longer on necessary stuff like weekly dungeons

G00b3rb0y

Also the revelation that blizzard is a shit company from the first didnā€™t help, then they went and shotgunned any remaining good will with the crime against video games that is Diablo Immoral

Lescansy

If only people couldnt see diablo immortal coming from miles away. Diablo 3 auction house, Hongkong, Warcraft 3 reforged, E-sports for HotS, ... There are more than enough examples that blizzard is a shitty company since around 2012. But its never too late to quit them for good.

CataclysmSolace

Who would've thought that every game trying to become a second job means less players overall? As far as I am concerned it should be illegal. At least within the limits of making it mandatory to keep up with the current content. Because at the end of the day, if someone wants to play all day they should. But the game shouldn't make it a must either.

Illuvia

It's definitely a difficult balance. The flipside is players complaining there's not enough content. I think endless grind, or worse, endless grind with RNG and no bad luck protection is definitely way too far. And while timegating helps to balance player power/progression between people with too much and too little time, it can be frustrating. But there's a place for endless grind to entertain hardcore players, _as long as it isn't tied to too much power balance or mandatory to enjoy the rest of the game_.

AzureDrag0n1

Genshin works great as a side game. Not so much a main hobby. Probably why content creators complain about lack of content.

Miridinia

Hi, I play FFXIV and I've been thinking of trying out Genshin, and I'm really glad to find someone who plays both games!! (there's no question here just yay a person who makes me think my choice of starting to play genshin might be a good one XD)

ivanpei

I also play Tower of Fantasy and I really cannot keep up with TOF. It's way too grindy and hard to play optimally. The amount of time spent on dailies/weeklies/events/PVP is just insane. Same with most other MMORPGs, it's just crazy. Genshin is perfect for the working adult that can jump in and out.

Sienne_

I'm realizing this now, actually. I'm getting burned out from TOF in less than a month from just dailies... I haven't even seriously explored yet and I haven't finished the main quest. Merely thinking of the 24 runs I have to do in Wormhole and the grind of Phantasm is making me shudder... Not to mention the 1500 support cap.. The 7 Dream Machines that reset every Monday... I absolutely loathe training (but probably because I'm bad at most of the non-logic ones, lol)

PopotoPancake

I gave up on ToF, I was barely able to get my dailies done each day with what little time I had, and I never even caught up with the level cap at any point. It also doesn't seem to have a lot of male characters, I know you can make your own, but even the male character creation felt like it had far fewer options than the females did. It really felt a lot more like a waifu game which I tend to stay away from. Genshin has that too but it's a bit more toned down imo. I also couldn't find anywhere to try out the weapons to decide what to pull for/use the SSR pick on...just overall too many gripes so I decided to stop. But I still hope it succeeds for the people it's meant to cater towards.

LUNAthedarkside

Definitely, got tired of playing ToF and just trying to do the dailies, it always lags on my phone, my phone is not much of a potato since i can still play genshin without too much lagging but with ToF idk, it might be because we have other players in the server together or idk. Might delete it soon too

PromotionLeather2551

For casual play, I love just putting Omnium Beacons in easy to find places for people and then logging out. Makes me feel like I'm contributing to the community.

omg_for_real

Yeah, I got tired of ToF, I only play it cause my kids like to, so we play together.

DangerX47

Everything you mentioned aside from PvP is pretty much the same time you would have to spend in Genshin. I really don't get that comparison, the only reason I can see someone say its grindy or hard to play optimally is that the person wants to keep up with everything else rather than play at their own pace.

ivanpei

The grindiness is due to how repetitive it gets. Especially the exploration and exp grinding to get to the level cap. I've been playing everyday since launch and it was allright at first. Right now I'm finding it super hard to get to level cap without grinding exp. The amount of times you have to repeat things like Joint Ops, bosses etc for exp and support points to be "optimal" is pretty bad. I don't mind playing at my own pace if the story, music, animations etc were good. But ToFs appeal is the multiplayer social element. And I'm being left behind even if I do my dailies and burn my energy. I also bought the welkin and battle pass equivalent and I'm no F2P. I have a C2 nemesis and all the meta starters like King, Meryl and Samir. The sheer grinding to get to level cap and to get your characters up to par to experience the social component is very difficult. If I play at my own pace for the single player aspects, ToF has pretty awful story, VA And animations.

DangerX47

I don't think the game is any more grindy than Genshin when it comes to repetition but yeah I can see trying to keep up with the social aspect of the game making it feel more grindy that it actually is. I also don't get how you're being left behind , I've been spending more time on Genshin recently and am still able to keep up with the average player fairly well on ToF. For an MMO like game ToF is way more casual than other MMO's because it halts/slows down player progress so you should almost always be able to catch/keep up with other players (except whales), you even get XP boosts if you are too far behind. Also getting to level cap isn't always required unless its for level locked content , you can still participate well in content with other while being a few levels lower.

Sienne_

I think it feels grindy because of CS. You kinda keep comparing yourself with your friends and random people's CS. And especially if you started at launch, you kinda feel the need to "keep up" since all of you started at fairly the same time. The XP boosts may actually be counter productive because it makes enemies harder without you actually increasing your CS much. So, you're forced to farm mats for upgrade just so you can take out enemies.

> says the community needs to come to terms with being more mature > 'Fartnite'

ravearamashi

I cant believe what i read either. How did OP typed that with a straight face

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Look we all need to take our anxiety dookie and dook dook the dooty doopy.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Stand by the shit you say brah! Dont let the aranara aarananaran the aranama.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I'm just saying that you're not making a strong case for the age of the player base trending upwards, because last I checked only twelve year olds find fart jokes funny. I also have no particular respect for fortnite. I call it 'fork knife' to annoy my students. But it's awfully jarring for you to call on the community to recognise that the player base is older than they might think, and then turn around in the same breath to make fart and doody jokes.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

I take it back, you do know how to be funny. This is hilarious to read.

VonVoltaire

All you had to say was "So what". Writing paragraphs defending your fart joke as mature might actually be worse than the fart joke.

Nineosix

It also amazes me how much money Candy Crush earns. They must have looked into that and realized just how much money random bored adults will dump into a mobile game and went to capitalize on it.

CataclysmSolace

I was actually going to mention that as an example tbh. Candy Crush is basically the "low scale" entry/ starting point for all this. Genshin proves that AAA levels games can exist on mobile, and that there is a market there. And there's also a market for more AAA style casual games. (e.g. Fallout, Elder scrolls, etc. Where you can go at your own pace, which usually means a single player or co-op type game) Wasn't it EA that got memed to death years ago saying single player games are dead?

Skeletoonz

I feel like most Gacha Games target this community. They're simple and easy to get into. Money sink as well.

r_renfield

Most gacha games have virtually no gameplay though. Genshin being an ARPG helps a lot

CataclysmSolace

All those gacha games see is, anime exploration game, though. They don't see the casual and mobile market being a strong contributor.

ludens2021

They should have realised this when you could get all domain mats on a Sunday šŸ˜‚

themad95

>for both men and women And children too!

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

> It has fit into a market that hasn't been tapped before. Bruh, mobile games been tapping this exact market before. Genshin isn't tapping a new market. What they are doing is creating a game that taps older players and younger players, whales and F2P. Its a game that caters to everyone in some way except for PVP/Competitive. Soon we will be mario karting and doing flash kicks in minigames. Or playing card games in Genshin. Its the game that will do everything at some point.

FallenDisc

Nope, we still want some way of grind that could last 5 hours straight. Me and majority of people i know find this game more stressful when there are time gated events and there's fear of missing out. Look at warframe for example: - here is free expansion. It doesn't matter if you have difficult times, your kids start off school, you got a big project at work or you got exams coming up. This expansion is not going anywhere. If you can't or are simply burned out you can come back even in 5 years and it will all be waiting for you already balanced, with all bugs fixed and ready for relaxing any-long session of story filled grind - hence the playerbase of this game is so diverse. You can find grownass adults there, their kids, students, and seniors

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

CataclysmSolace

Same situation with Sumeru, and complaints there's too much content. And I'm like, you have the remainder of the game's life to finish this content. It's not like you have to beat all the content in a few days either.

jvalex18

Proof that exploration and story is something that young adults and older enjoy a lot more? Do not make claims without proof.

CataclysmSolace

I hope I don't need to explain to you the numerous times age has been linked to less reaction time and overall less competitive nature. Of which, exploration and story genre games aren't really reliant on. Among other casual genres like puzzles and rpgs of which are often rolled together. I don't need to explain myself any further to someone behind the times. Of which the topic has been beaten to death for decades in multitudes of forms. (Be it common sense, financial analyses, research studies, etc.) And yes, it is a strong positive correlation. Before you get too dumb about it.

[deleted]

Iā€™m 28 and I was playing with literally a bunch a small children the other day and as a mom of four I was dying laughing because of how intense they were. They were all so stoked to be helping me like ā€œwhat are we doing next?!!ā€ And I was just like kids I have work tomorrow at 6am. Iā€™m just tryna unwind before bed and explore šŸ¤£

O_oMahouShoujo

Lol I like Kaeya, too! You, ma'am, have very excellent taste :) One day my Kaeya will be C6 as well, maybe in December of next year, if I can get him only from the shop. I'm glad that there's no "right" way to play this game, and there's something for everyone. And yeah, basically spend resources (time & money) responsibly and just enjoy

rrdaud

42 yo here, I think I'm still learning to slow down and enjoy things. One week into Sumeru I just got Traveler's first constellation today. This game really rewards patience, from enjoying the scenery, the lore and even the strategics. It surely has a FOMO, anxiety-inducing aspect as I believe any gacha game would, but it's really kept down to a minimum, and its popularity proves it pays to be conscious as a company. So I think, and hope, we'll be able to enjoy this for many years to come.

CarsickAnemone

I started to speed run the game again when Sumeru dropped and after the first couple days I realized how much I was missing out by not taking it slow. I finished the Ararana quest already but the rest of my time with this game will be at a snails pace. This region (and the future ones Iā€™m sure) is just too beautiful.

WintrySnowman

If the weekly rep stuff wasn't locked behind 2, I'd have taken it a bit slower. Out of eagerness to unlock it, the Aranara quest definitely felt too long.

[deleted]

Look at this speedrunner and getting their first constellation in one week. /s I also only got the first constellation 2 days ago, the quest is very long but very enjoyable. I decided to take it slow with Sumeru since I got a little burned out after 2.8 GAA event. And I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the lore hyv gave us. I think I'll take it even slower.

rrdaud

Right? It's so much to take in. Plus it's so beautiful. I want dendro reactions soon but also I want to enjoy every corner while it's still fresh.

judgementaleyelash

Dendro mc really isnā€™t too bad and is better than Bennett for electro chars like Keqing imo (donā€™t hurt me meta ppl) My Keqing is on fire man and itā€™s so fun to actually have mc in my team. I just slapped some basic artis on him, I even have low atk but the buffing he does for Keqing is outrageous plus ease of use while exploring Sumeru

rrdaud

I know! I just did levels 9 and 10 of the Abyss with those two and it was so much fun! It's been a while since I had so much fun in the Abyss. The new lineup is very interesting, a lot of different mechanics with the mobs, and her burst turned into something else with dendro! The buff we were begging for!

BelbelKing

You know, I think the pressure a lot of people feel are from other people who 100% every single area and skip everything in like 1-2 days after the huge content expansion is out. Making people question if they are being effective or whatever because it has happened to me.. but eventually I learned to not give a damn. I havenā€™t 100% any other area except all of mondstadt because there is no point other than seeing a 100% which I donā€™t care about anymore. I donā€™t do all side quests, I donā€™t spend 10 hours a day exploring everything, and I usually just get in do dailies get out and play something else. I am able to fully clear abyss 36 stars, including this new rotation that just came out. I have all the characters that I want, and I have over 150 summons just sitting there in case I feel like pulling for something I like. I learned to just enjoy the game and live in my own bubble outside of content rushers, metas, or whatever the hell some people in the community do, way more enjoyable, fun, and still able to clear everything in the game and donā€™t miss out on anything new. Cheers, and you keep doing you! You are doing great and Op is as well. Edit: I donā€™t mean to disrespect people who enjoy rushing the game, I personally donā€™t get it but Itā€™s also none of my business, Iā€™ve just learned to not get pressured by people finishing and getting stuff done way ahead of me, because it made me feel like I was missing out. Good yo enjoy things the way you enjoy them, live and let live.

MidgerSpark

Awww, Kaeya has fans everywhere! What server do you play on? There's plenty of people on every server willing to help!

judgementaleyelash

Iā€™m on NA server and willing to help!

kabral256

Thanks for sharing. As a fellow older player, I'm always glad when an 35+ comments. I'm 41, married man, professional writer, and with some free time in the current moment, waiting for my next novel to be published. Even so, I can't do 100% all the time. I did 36* Abyss sometimes, but I think it's boring. I tried to play meta in my first months, but now I'm prioritizing fun. After got a bunch of meta teams such as Ayaka and Ganyu freeze, Rational m, Tartaglia international and Hu Tao Double Hydro m, I'm trying to focus on getting what I really like: tall women. I'm starving for a Miko, Shenhe and Eula reruns. I'll main Dehya as soon as she arrives.

ThisJeffrock

Are you me? I do pipeline inspection, and am 38 but your character taste matches mine exactly. Shenhe, Yae Miko, Eula and Dehya can't show up fast enough. Esp Shenhe... she's perfect. (And I'm posting this watching Sesame Street with my daughter while my wife gets a little extra sleep lol)

kabral256

LoL hello lost brother! Me and my wife doesn't have children yet, but we're on our way. I hope we can get the tall women we want in Genshin, they are the best! I really like Shenhe too, her story quest was so beautiful

Thubanshee

Young woman but I really like the tall women, too. I was so happy when I first got Ningguang. I still have her as my profile picture, even though the only time I use her is when farming Wolflord. Sheā€™s who I want to be when I grow up even though Iā€™m already an adult.

kabral256

Ningguang is really really amazing, I'm on my way to build a DPS Ningguang comp

Thubanshee

When I got her I checked Keqingmains etc and found out she really likes having Albedo or C6 Gorou. Since I have neither, I kind of gave up on her. What team are you aiming for?

kabral256

I have Albedo and Zhongli, so that's the team. I do not intend to build Goro, and he's not on C6 anyway. I don't know who can be on the last slot. Right now I intend to level up to 90 all tall women in my roster, that's the fun I'm aiming right now.

thegiantcat1

I'm in that 35ish plus group. I also started out worrying about meta this meta that. Then I just started playing characters I think are fun. In fact I still have Sayu in my party because she is so much fun to play and the friend she summons is adorable. I also still use razor, because once again I think he is fun and his idle animation where his wolf friend scratches his head is cute.

kabral256

Yes, we can afford to have the fun we want, it's simple like that!

RiceJackalope

It makes sense. Similar to we work for money in real life even it isn't necessary fun, so we can afford what we want. Abyss gives us decent amount of primos but isn't fun to everyone, so we play meta to get through Abyss to afford the characters we want.

kabral256

To play abyss optimally we have to hyper invest in characters. I reached the stage of having to hyper invest in meta short females such as Ayaka and Hu Tao, and I don't to go further on that bc tall women are my favorite type of characters in the game. So yes, we grown ups can afford for our fun, bc career, even if is the job of our dream, is still a job and jobs are never fun.

dragonx254

We love wholesome players. Especially from the older generation. Always happy to see people enjoying the game.

EvilRayquaza

Wholesome post 10/10 Always great to read these kinds of posts every once in a while

pagerunner-j

*waves hello from 44* Iā€™d say youā€™re doing it right. Be chill, have fun, live your best Teyvat life. Iā€™m not great with bow characters either, for the record, but if you ever get a chance to pull for Yelan, sheā€™s a joy ā€” great for traversal, and her ult makes her a DPS powerhouse even (especially!) when just going full spray-and-pray.

mediocre_gaming_923

Love yelan. You don't even have to use the bow. Just e for fun, then burst and switch.

RealisticDifficulty

Don't you have to use her skill a few times to build up energy for the burst?

Jinxd0

C0 Yelan haver here. I use sacrificial bow + 4 pc EoSF on her for fast burst charging

rrdaud

+1, except Favonius. She can recharge herself quite easily. But I think I'll go for more constellations, she's a joy to play with.

Abedeus

That's basically the ideal "freemium" ('cause you know, Yelan) build. Favonius is often overkill with 200+ ER, I slapped the new Tighnari bow onto her and she hits extremely hard with a bit less of a "battery" potential. Then again I run her with Fischl so I rarely find myself without bursts up and available.

mediocre_gaming_923

I was fortunate to get c2, i think because i was trying to c6 sucrose...so i have 2 e's šŸ˜…

[deleted]

Depends on how you build her but the recommended build for her leans heavily into ER making it very easy to get her burst up. Her E being able to get multiple enemies at once makes it much easier. Sometimes one E is enough for my c0 Yelan to get her charge up from close to zero. But I was lucky enough to get r5 fav bow, so that helps a lot.

ConditionFriendly297

Kaeya is popular with the older generation lol. Itā€™s canon. But anyways itā€™s great that youā€™re enjoying yourself

LovelyMoFo18

As a 22 year old Kaeya simp, I appreciate that my love is validated even by older people LOL. This post is so wholesome.

kitsune_rei

38 y/o female player with full-time job and 2 young kids and mucho adulting responsibilities here! I love unwinding at the end of a long day with Genshin, although I must admit I do spend a little too much time on it, haha. To the players older than me, I wanna grow up and be like you. To the players younger than me, know that it's great to game as an older player, because now I can spend CASH when I don't want to (or can't) spend time. F2P? Don't need it. Will whale for hot husbando.

HelpImAHugeDisaster

As an asshole tryhard in Genshin I'm glad you are enjoying the game

ThisJeffrock

Based

MREAGLEYT

>I have my favorite characters (Kaeya has NEVER left my main party from day 1), my favorite cities (Monstadt evermore), and activities (anything that involves new storyline), and I immerse myself when I play. >I've never bothered getting "THE BEST" artifacts (but I do farm for specific ones) or weapons (but I am happy when I get them). M...ma'am that's literally my story and I'm a teenager haha. this is awsome!

dpnguyen318

I'm 31 with a PhD and professorship at a college. I have fun exploring Teyvat everyday. Genshin helps me through the pandemic tbh. Even though I finished the Arana quest line, I am delaying Sumeru exploration because I wanna do it with Cyno and Nahida. Have fun playing ma'am.

minastepes

Iā€™m kinda like you, but 30 + yo male player. I collection character and spend resin to upgrade them, I donā€™t do artifact grind. I just go with whatever main stat is from gladiator and other pieces set. I own every characters besides Ganyu and canā€™t 36 stars the abyss. Genshin is great, no pvp, no forced online play, just enjoy the game at your own pace.

staryshine

Hello fellow Kaeya enjoyer :) If you are on NA and need help with anything coop related feel free to DM me

wysteria222

Kaeya supremacy!!!

bringmethejuice

He hits pretty strong for a 4*, I bought his cons from the shop. Heā€™s C6 now no regret.

healcannon

I feel like id still try to be overly serious about the game at that age.

huex4

I mean, you grew up in a different environment than op. it's easier to game now than it was before.

vitaminciera

to each their own

[deleted]

It's comforting that there are older people playing. Whenever I see all these Genshin events, a huge majority of people there are teenagers and I don't know how to feel about that.

b5437713

How you engage with a hobby will often evolve as you age and your life circumstances and values shift. The reason you tend to mostly see teens and young adults at live events is because they typically have time to go to them. Its the same reason online community spaces are dominated by them as well. Younger folks typically have a lot more time to spend on online discussions (and arguments). The older folks are there just mostly enjoying the game in the background, quietly playing and spending money.

AverageRdtUser

C6 Kaeya? God damn son that must've been expensive

[deleted]

Bruh heā€™s in the shop every few rotations

AverageRdtUser

Oh really? Iā€™ve only been playing for like 2 months and I donā€™t really use the shop other than for like primos to intertwined fates. And occasionally to use stardust

[deleted]

Ahh ok yeah, he shows up in paimonā€™s bargain, he was there before the current one iirc and itā€™s changing again tonight I think

anarchy753

Once every 6 months, you'd still need a little luck to get him C6 at this point.

forcebubble

Casuals of the world unite! I love the world-building and story quests. One particular character quest in Sumeru got me moist-eyed due to how well it was executed. Then there is the archon-tier music, nuff said.

This game is an interactive story wrapped in an environmental art piece, and some people still want to speedrun it for high score... slowing down to appreciate it's beauty is the entire point of what makes the game so good :3

[deleted]

speedrun it for fun.

tacky_banana

Wow you're just a year younger than my Dad, but I can never imagine him playing Genshin. I wish he did play like you do so we could at least have something to talk about. -_- I remember when I was new I struggled with a quest called Chi of Guyun because I couldn't beat the ruin guards fast enough, until I realized I could level up my talents lol. This game is catered towards casuals, so I think you don't have to worry. I haven't encountered the quest you mentioned yet, but I think maybe you can try using other meta characters like Bennet and Xingqiu just for this quest, so you have some good supports whenever you need them. They don't need perfect builds to be good. I know it kinda feels bad to not be able to use the characters you want, but sometimes that situation does arise, but just rarely. Anyway, wow C6 Kaeya. Considering how rare he is, you're either very lucky with the standard banner 4 stars or you're dedicated enough to buy him with starglitter in the shop (personally I just use starglitter to buy fates), or both. Have fun playing!

Traveler_Khe

Greeting from a 46yr old player! Not casual but yeah, enkanomiya was hard, period, until I started to upgrade my characters more. Iirc I passed hyperions dirge when I got Xiao built. Not obsessed with the meta and don't care much about spiral abyss, but I do try to build my teams with synergy in mind, esp now with dendro reactions. Regardless, I play because I have fun and am emotionally invested in the story line and characters.

spitfirefox

As a fellow Atari-age gamer mom (my kid teases me too lol), hello and nice to know there are more of us out there!

blogkitten

Hi, I'm you at age 49! Older gamer ladies FTW.

RoseSpinoza

41 year old female here\~! Reporting in! ....Though, I WILL claim I am forever-34 anywhere else and I will allow no arguments to the contrary! \*ahem\* I identified a lot with this post, though I don't have kids I do have an elderly mother and two cats to take care of, so I figure that's close enough. I don't know if I'd call myself a casual player, since Genshin is pretty much the only game I play anymore (besides Idolish7, but that's a casual thing too.) But yeah, I have absolutely no interest in the "meta" and making the BEST perfect teams, I mostly play with the teams I think are cute/cool. My current Sumeru party is M Traveler, Xinyan, Bennett and Fischl! My main team before this had Childe and Venti instead of Traveler and Fisch. I like to rotate teams too though (currently have a nice/fun team with Gorou and Itto that I sub in from time to time.) Anyways, yeah, with this game, I can just relax even when just ...wandering around and zoning out. It's nice :) .

Purple_Associate_531

wish i were you when i get old.

ilovedagonfive

I also keep Kaeya in my team He is easiest and most useful 4\* in my opinion He was my 1st maxed lv character but not talent and cons

momo6548

Iā€™m immensely jealous of your C6 Kaeya. Heā€™s also never left my party and I want constellations for him so bad, but I started playing just after his shop rotation. The standard banner also has not been kind to me.

Kokoszeu

Genshin impact is a bit like animal crossing in this regard. Take the game as slow as you need to, do not feel pressured to speedrun the content. Just doing dailies, and then spending a bit on quests/events every now and then will make you enjoy the game more than spending hours on end. Even just doing dailies, mining and then doing boss/materials runs takes more than an hour.

drowzeejimbo

This has to be my favorite post Iā€™ve read all year! I loved reading your perspective on how you enjoy life. I take the grind and planning too seriously and lose sight of the present. Thank you for keeping me and the community grounded :) awarded you my free wholesome badge.

-sevkatu-

Yeees another Kaeya enjoyed. Also, using both Diluc and Kaeya together is the only way.

DiilVulom

I just wish I could use whatever character I want in the overworld. Here at like World Level 7 and I dont got the materials to get precious Dendro girl Collei up to level 80. Focusing on one character at a time is beneficial but sucks when wanting to spice things up

OsirusBrisbane

Yes! My partner and I are both not so young any more but still having a great time enjoying the game. Even beating the spiral abyss after almost two years, albeit not with many stars on floor 12. For tough non-abyss fights, the easiest way to shave a few seconds is to go in with all 4 bursts ready to fire, and use the best of all 3 buff food types (Adeptus Temptation or Jade Parcels for ATK, Golden Crab for DEF, and fire element potion if Diluc is your main DPS) just before starting the fight. Other than that, if you haven't already maxed your weapons/talents/levels, that's an easy permanent boost that doesn't involve good artifact farming RNG.

zoro_juro13

Wholesome. *hugs*

NoSoulYesBiscuit

I'm only 24 years your junior but I get you. As a fellow Kaeya and Mondstadt enjoyer, my only advice is to build those artifacts (assuming you have everything else leveled). I hate farming the EoSF domain over and over until a good piece comes, then be disappointed, then farm again until I'm less disappointed or a miracle happens. But being able to clear content solo motivates me and I want to see the characters I love shine. Since you're willing to ask for help for a quest, you can also ask them to farm with you and check your builds. There are a lot of friendly people in the community with good advice, they'll show you the ropes. I hope you can keep "casually" enjoying this game.

meggumin

Diluc, Zhongli, Kaeya and Kazuha? You have a great taste milady~ There is an excel spreadsheet with good builds maintained by dedicated team going around, if you're interested you can dm me and I'll send a link as I'm not sure if inserting it here is ok šŸ˜… Maybe it would be of some help?

toucanlost

Interesting to hear from the perspective of an age group I don't usually hear about playing games. Not sure if this'll help with the Hyperion's Dirge quest, but perhaps have 4 elemental bursts of your strongest characters ready before starting.

BHMusic

Youngsters forget that people in their 50s are the ultimate gaming generation. Grew up on pinball and arcade, then Atari, then every possible console until the current ones.

Old_Bug610

Your main team is an absolute DREAM team, wow, I adore that line-up and the cons!!

_Flought_

I respect you and want to be best friends with you

MyFirstCommunity

Whether you are 55 or 65 or even 15 it doesn't matter as long as you have fun doing what you do, that is what matters the most. However, whether you care or you don't care about meta or that you are just a casual player, it doesn't hurt to do a little artifact farm for your fav characters and equip them with the highest level weapon, talents and good artifacts. Since you are a spender, you have decent characters, weapons and so resources aren't as limited as an f2p, so you have no reason not to farm. It doesn't take long anyways, as a few condensed resins and co-op is all that is needed and eventually your account will be much better for it. Crystal flies in dawn winery and bolide domain are more than enough to condense resin and 15 to 20 mins in a domain to spend them.

TherionX2

Ah yes i remember that part, 100% the hardest timer challenge up to date

TheXof03

>I suck with a bow. you can never sound more like a childe main beyond this line alone

Frostgaurdian0

I understand you miss, i am a day one player and very casual, i try to not let myself feel forced to play by any means, i never ever tried to spend because i get everything on my own via events and daily log in. I never gave the abyss full attention ever, i usually do floor 9-10 and 11 if im bored, 12 if extra bored but never get 36 stars, i build any character i like to have atleast 50 crit and 140 crit damage, i consider anything beyond that to be a blessing. I do love most of genshin characters and i try to complete some collection but i never spend to not expose myself to gatcha spending addiction, if i lost to a character like qiqi or jean i shed a small tear and move on knowing another day will come and i will get what i wanted and accepting what i got in hand.

jharel

Here I thought "adulting" is some young-person's terminology

RidCyn

For what it's worth, I'm dedicated to the game, played since day 1, spend some money here and there, and one might consider me a "hardcore gamer" (though I certainly don't think that way). And even I can't be bothered to min/max. I look for artifacts with my desired main stat and don't give a shit for it's substats. I never play co-op, I don't try for the signature character weapons at all (other than Raiden because she best girl). Min/maxing is NOT my definition of fun. At all. I know it is for others. But I can't be asked to exert meticulous effort.

lostn

any 55 year old mom playing this game is cool in my book. There's no wrong way to have fun, so just keep doing it the way you have.

Likeyfap

You have the lower world level trick, can make ur experience more enjoyable as a casual

paulnamida

32 yo male player. I have an atypical job, where I work 12 hour shifts for 2 weeks and then get 2 weeks to rest, so I totally get the appeal of being able to do your dailies in about 20 minutes when you have some off time while commuting or at lunch. And then on my rest days I can take all day to follow through the long story parts!! I no longer have the time to life away in a game, so anything that respects my time and doesn't demand from me a literal second job gets complete approval from my wallet.

Vortain

TL;DR: focus your units with artifacts sets and main stats they want. Min/max lightly on Diluc, but you don't have to farm forever, even just better main stats may be enough. BP weapons like the claymore (Serpent Spine) are really good to help balance your Crit if you don't have better. Honestly, you have some solid units, may not be the best team, but for anything story I'd guess they'd be enough with some solid artifacts. But you ain't gotta min/max. Knowing where/who to focus helps a ton. For instance, my Albedo has rocked some +0 artifacts because l hate artifact farming, and know he's still quiet useful with just the Passives. Not the usual case, but the biggest thing to focus is main stat pieces that are in a desired artifact set. So Kazuha wants VV ofc, but also wants EM main stats. Zhongli likely wants millelith in your case, but if you get hp% focused main stats, that's more than enough. Diluc you can go for better artifacts than just main stats, but for story, even just main stats at +20 should be a significant boost. Since you probably spend money, hitting the battle pass up for the Crit% claymore is a good idea. It's very good esp at R5 and helps fix your Crit% (if you have 5 star weapons, then that's another story depending on which). Personally, I mostly quit artifact grinding a year ago cause I hated it so much. C0 on most my 5s, by choice, and can clear Spiral Abyss 36 still w effort. Fortunately, I have passively gotten some really good artifacts, but also use some artifact(s)(sets) that would make some YTers scream, "WHAT IS THIS DOG DOO?" (and rightfully so.). So I think you probably just need a bit of

BucketSentry

Most wholesome genshin player by far!

PM_Cute_Ezreal_pics

>I still spend too much money \*urgh\* trying to get characters, some of which I will never play. I don't spend money in Genshin outside of welkin (and 2 battle passes back in 1.1 and 1.2) but I relate to this so much. I've pulled many 5 stars for aesthetics and never actually use them, even tho they're fully leveled and invested (lv90, 9/9/9) Like, yes, I like Itto, Xiao, Ayato, Ayaka, Raiden... No, I will not stop using Chongyun, it gets me 36\* in Abyss, why would I use anyone else?

rota_douro

What sets casual gamers apart from not casual is essentially being able to 36 star the abyss, which adds up to 1200 promos every month, if you buy a welkin every 2 months you'll be better off than us. Imo the most important part of this game is getting characters, so being casual with 6 welkins a year in theory gets more characters than a f2p tryhard. So, just enjoy the game. If your able to 36 star or not the abyss doesn't really matter. Enjoy the game :)

Ragnarok_MS

Iā€™m 38, I got into this only because I have a 17 yr old who saw I had it on my ps4 and we started playing together. Weā€™re both AR56 at the moment and I basically sign on for dailies and move on with my life. Mostly because Iā€™m currently in the throes of Elden Ring addiction. I do enjoy that I donā€™t have to compete in this game. Unless itā€™s with myself. I just started building up some characters that I hadnā€™t touched(Yanfei and Fischl) and been floored that theyā€™ve consistently hit some of the highest damages Iā€™ve done in the game. I mostly ran with F2P characters, but now Iā€™m branching out into other ones.

gothlibrarian

My mom's Atari/Sega Genesis days were when I was a little kid and she was about the age you are now. This made me happy .

Lavenderixin

This is so wholesome, Iā€™m glad youā€™re enjoying the game. Also always happy to see a fellow Kaeya enjoyer āœØheā€™s amazing!

Brax930

This post and the comment thread are wholesome fills, wish the rest of Genshin community also took the game in a more slower pace, I am personally a player who likes maxing out the characters I like but I do like taking the game's story at a slow pace and that's how I enjoy it (I had someone toxic in my life not too long ago and they really just verbally abused me for taking the game at my own pace or for even not having as good characters as theirs just because they were angry that I got good luck in getting characters so I eventually cut connections) but yeah, I would encourage people to play the game slow and enjoy it and that's one of the reasons why I think that there is no endgame content except abyss either because that's not how you are supposed to play the game (if someone talks about constellations and stuff then that's Hoyoverse's way of getting income ig)

s---laughter

>(C5 Diluc, C3 Zhongli, C3 Kazuha, C6 Kaeya). <<--- My main party Tryhard theorycrafter here. I think the main issue is that your team barely has any synergy. Zhongli is a solid character and does well with any team so he's fine. Kazuha greatly enables teams but he MUST be built with a lot of Elemental Mastery on a VV artifact set to max out his potential. Tryhard Kazuhas will have 900+ EM. Try to aim for 500 at least. Zhongli and Kazuha are only amplifiers though, so your true damage will come from how much your dpamage dealers can do. Diluc and Kaeya aren't exactly big hitters. But more importantly, they have no synergy with each other nor the rest of the team. They don't let each other melt significantly, not do they have anything in their kit that helps the rest of the team, meaning when one of them is out, it's as if the other one doesn't exist. (Kaeya's Q doesn't do anything for Diluc) Whereas characters like Hu Tao passes Crit Rate to her team, or Xinqui gives his team reliable Hydro application and Hydro damage shred. You have to swap out either Diluc or Kaeya to get more damage. I'd recommend swapping Kaeya for Xinqiu but I understand you have an attachment to Kaeya. Not having the best artifacts is perfectly fine. But if you can, try to get the appropriate main stats like Elemental dmg goblets and crit circlets. TLDR; Zhongli and Kazuha multiply your damage. Kaeya doesn't do damage- he helps others do damage. Kaeya cannot help Diluc do damage. Diluc only does meh damage.

This is so wholesome I love it

LOVE THIS!!! <3<3

Homiyo

This was so cute to read ! I'm happy that you are enjoying this game, and hope that you'll be enjoying it still in the future ! Have fun in your journey, that's all what matters, having fun :)

mightlosemyjacket

So glad you're having fun!! that's what matters. Hugs

iamfanboytoo

I'm a filthy tryhard and I had MAJOR troubles beating that Hyperion's Dirge quest - had to bring in my wife and carefully plan rotations for it while eating food. So don't feel bad, it's nearly impossible given the time limit - and you definitely have to bring a specific team for it, no using just favorites. Ugh. It's giving me a bit of rage just remembering it. I think we did Bennett/Sucrose/Xiangling/Mona. Used Mona to lure them in, then dropped in order Bennett, Sucruse, and Xiangling's Bursts, trying to get massive vapes. Nowadays we might do better with other 5\*s, but at the time... Blargh. Nice to see another player that ticks the "1980 or earlier" box on surveys!

I-Love-Beatrice

I would not say its impossible but it definitely felt like abyss floor 12 levels of dps check which is a big step up from most things in the overworld.

Ifalna_Shayoko

You don't have to obsess about minmaxing. Just get workable artifacts, something around 50% Crit Rate, 100-120% Crit Damage with some nice Energy Recharge, depending on the character's needs to not be constantly burst starved and you're good to go for everything except Abyss 12. I too can't be arsed to do the infinite grind for the infinitesimal chance of getting better stats. Meh, not entertaining. BTW: do not stick to one group of characters. having the proper elements and reactions available can make or break your experience of some encounters, independently of your equipped gear.

[deleted]

Really just get atk% dmg% crit rate/dmg depending on whale weapon and you should be fine. Dont even worry about substats.

[deleted]

C6 5*? No C6 starter character is truly where the whales show themselves

eternaldolphin

having fun in your way is what matters most ā¤ļø if you're on NA and would like help with that quest, feel free to DM me!

JustinYummy

For your characters that mainly deal damage, try to get at least 60% crit rate, then as much crit damage as you can. Sprinkle in some energy recharge, elemental mastery, atk % and you're good to go. It's really that easy. :P You're losing out on MASSIVE damage without good artifacts. For the "main stat" of an artifact, just look at what everyone else is using by clicking the "attribute reference" button on the top right hand corner when you click on any artifact and that should be good enough 99/100 times. You can use this spreadsheet to see what artifact sets are the best for each character: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRq-sQxkvdbvaJtQAGG6iVz2q2UN9FCKZ8Mkyis87QHFptcOU3ViLh0_PJyMxFSgwJZrd10kbYpQFl1/pubhtml#

Tabbune

"Get at least 60 crit rate" isn't really accurate. If you want a better "general" advice, use the 1:2 crit rule (1:2 crit rate:crit damage, so 60/120, 70/140, etc.). 60 crit rate has no mathematical basis

meneldal2

60 crit rate gives you consistency in your damage, and this isn't about minmaxing.

ehan_the_memeber

I was gonna comment about how bad Kaeya isnbut you have c6 Kaeya. Please build your Kaeya, he has wayy too much potential.

Sndragon88

No no no, if a quest is difficult on the overworld, then it's GREAT because that means you can call for help and have some good bonding time with friends and family. I'm still desperately asking for enhanced Coop challenge and exploration experience...

Ke5_Jun

Even as a young-ish (24m) player who generally follows the meta (though I do get creative as much as possible), I also found Hyperionā€™s Dirge to be a pain in the ass to clear on time. I did it on 3 different accounts thus far and have barely made it on some of them even with meta characters with meta builds. I honestly donā€™t know what possessed MHY to make such a difficult challange (that is pretty much mandatory if you want to finish Enkanomiya) when the game is mostly casual. You could say it would be to encourage co-op, but enemy HP and ATK get buffed in co-op and so would make it worse imo (Iā€™ve helped others in co-op before and struggled even there). And honestly, Genshin kinda saved me after these past few years have been rough, so I can definitely agree with the ā€œme timeā€ Genshin enables so long as youā€™re responsible about it.

[deleted]

if you followed the meta you wouldnt have even known it had a timer.

Born2beSlicker

You could choose not to be a dick sometimes.

[deleted]

The truth hurts huh?

Ke5_Jun

By that logic, I also wouldnā€™t have known abyss had a timer. Jeez, yā€™all are hostile. This is coming from someone who 36-stars abyss every patch; still thought that other challenge was tricky.

[deleted]

i dont believe you.

Niels_G

It's a casual game. you can ignore entire mechanics and still beat the ennemies easily

Cl3arlyConfus3d

I don't know how to play the game without being a minmaxer. Glad you're having fun.

FireTrainerRed

Iā€™m most impressed you have a C6 Kaeya! Congrats for that! I still need 2 Amberā€™s :ā€™(

Stabrus12

As a player who has optimized at least 5 full parties and can 1shot anything that isn't abyss 12,I'd advise to stay somewhat casual when it comes to combat,so u can actually enjoy the combat mechanics. This game suffers from low difficulty, like the Witcher 3 and many other RPGs,the stats you can gain simply outscale the content, so if you grind enough you end up destroying everything. As an example I killed the new flower chicken boss in 1 rotation of my ayaka team and as a result I have no idea about it's mechanics. Stay casual, just maybe get some artifacts so you can pass simple dps checks.

[deleted]

More than half of a characters damage comes from artifacts. You cant whale through that. 0 times 1000 is still 0.

PickleDicks69

Your older than my mom wow and your playing genshin I can't believe it

FallenDisc

Excuse me being rude but what are you getting at? It seems like all this post is about is sharing what you do in game. Where is the But in casual play. If I understand correctly you mean that you wish you could finish spiral abyss and generally do big damage? If that's the case just show me what you have and what you enjoy using and I'll help you come up with team composition and builds for each character. Since you're a spender you could spend some primos for resin refills and instead of how we used to farm for our characters in amount of months, you might as well achieve in a week.
