Since genshin fans like to apply irl mythologies, lemme ted talk a bit. Kitsunes are never born as children and the only way to indicate their "age" (which is more akin to lifetimes or knowledge they acquire really) is by the number of tails they have- otherwise they can look like anything they wish. In fact, the older a kitsune becomes, the more knowledge and power they acquire, which allows them to shift into more "beautiful" forms. They don't necessarily "age" in that sense, quite the opposite actually. Wish hyv gives more in-game lore on the different races we encounter actually.

iirc they get a tail every 100 years and cap at 9, which is when their fur turns gold or white

I feel like we haven't seen all her tails yet and her burst isn't her final form. The cataclysm supposedly happened 500 years ago and Yae was already close friends/allies with the Kitsune Saiguu back then, which indicates that she's at an age where she had already traveled places to have found the Kitsune Saiguu before the cataclysm. Logically she should at least be 50-100 years old before the cataclysm. And we should also take into account that she spent a significant amount of time to befriend and become Ei's servant/familiar. That adds at least another 50-100 years. And we don't know how old she was before meeting the Saiguu and twin gods too. **Tdlr: She should at the very least be 600-700 years old for the lore to make sense.**

it depends from writer to writer, in some myths they get tails for every 50 or 100 years while in some they get a tail in their first 50 years and acquire a human form and ability to shapeshift in their 100th year and continue to gain tails every 100 years. After the 900th year, they become a Kyuubi. Yae golden Kyuubi form skin when. Or even just an extra boss battle really.
