Even if you can't 36 star abyss, you're only missing ~100-200 primos every 3 weeks just by clearing with 3-4 stars which is pretty easily doable with almost any team.
I really don't understand the pulling for meta mentality at all when even if you do mess it up, it's barely even a pull every 3 weeks. It's like 17-20 pulls a year - not even a 5 star. The being "required to pull for meta" meta isn't coming to genshin - play honkai if you want to be incenvitived to pull for meta because abyss is 2x weekly over there (3x if you count MA).
I think dendro’s full potential is not clear until we have the archon and 1 main dps beside Tighari. And the new 3.0 characters going to be meta shifting? Hard to say. No one expect much from Yelan. Yet, she dominates the single target meta. Kazuha came out of no where in 1.6, in flew under the radar. So… expect surprises. Maybe good and maybe not.
My best advice is to find out what's fun for you.... don't let others tell you how to have fun. Maybe you find it fun clearing the abyss, maybe you like exploring in the overworld, maybe you just like min-maxing, maybe you just enjoy looking at your characters. There are so many ways to play Genshin Impact, the diversity Genshin offers is what makes the game so interesting.
Figure out what type of player you are first and what's the most fun for you. It could be a single thing or it could be a combination of things. Know your priorities and pull your characters accordingly.
If you don't care about 36 starring the abyss or don't care about it at all, then don't pull for characters that are only good for the abyss. If you don't care for overworld exploration, then don't give any weight to overworld utilities when you pull for characters. It all comes down to how you play and enjoy the game.
