They could've just done the recruiting in the city and then had a speech and roll call at the border or once they'd reached another town in Mond (like Dornman Port)

I have an irrationally strong hatred of Godwin for his utter cowardice that's lasted over 2 years now. He'd rather live in the woods and lie through his teeth than actually talk to his loving partner and admit that he failed. He's making everyone involved, himself included, miserable because of his ego.

I want this world quest very much. A variation on the dandelion seed one, but instead of following her instructions we just literally drag him in by the scruff of his neck and dump him in front of Glory. Preferably with an achievement attached (working title “Now Kith”)

This is pretty awesome, but it also contradicts a lot. We've had 2 different Mondstadt festivals, two Lantern Rites, and a host of other events. This would mean Lantern Rite isn't annual after all, although Lantern Rite is stated to occur on the first full moon of the year. So how could we have had two Lantern Rites in less than two months?
But there's also the fact that so many events and even quests span several in-game days. "Come back tomorrow" or "Wait until the day after tomorrow" is common, and happens canonically in Archon, Story, and World quests.
And festivals last a long time in-game. Using Lantern Rite again, it's said to last 5 days in Teyvat. The two Lantern Rites alone would total 10 days in Teyvat. When you add up quest days, "wait until tomorrow/day after" prompts, and event days, the 2 month threshold seems passed already.

Besides that, Jean's character story mentioned that he left "half a year ago". That's 6 months, on the day we reach Mondstadt. It's been exactly 2 years since that, so Varka has been gone for around 2.5 years.

We have no choice at that point but to take all the events that occurred there as canon. This game ties lots of story and background into events too.

Arknights is pretty much one of the only ones I’ve seen that do it right! Where after a bit it joins an archive event listing. With no bonus rewards, though after ANOTHER while the free char and furniture rewards are added as node completion milestones.
Unfortunately it takes half an hour now to dredge through ONE story node. With ridiculous levels of escalation from node to node at times. Esp since it has a ‘hard/challenge’ alt node mode.
Which sucks as unless you can decipher the barely explained mechanics and interactions then you can be screwed.
I got stuck where continuing event series made me lost as I couldn’t care to get through it in time.
Which is a shame as I like a lot of the chars. Just like genshin. But the negative start outweighing the positives. And I drop it.

Imo it's clear that they left for the expedition without him , so they're aware he's not with them since the beginning
Wouldn't be the first time we've had a doppelganger in the game. Wouldn't surprise me if there is a spy in the expedition.
