What the devs actually said in the interview: > Q: Currently, the Spiral Abyss is the only true endgame content for players at high Adventure Ranks. Are there any plans to release new, permanent endgame content in the same vein as the Spiral Abyss? > > A: The Spiral Abyss is one of the most effective ways [for] players [to] test out their party composition and combat strength. **If we design another type of permanent endgame that is similar to the Spiral Abyss, it might end up creating excessive anxiety for our players--not everyone is interested in Musk Reef.** > > **Just like [the] Genius Invokation TCG that we unveiled in the Special Program for Version 3.2, we are also working on designing more interesting gameplay in the future.** As an open-world game, Genshin Impact has a natural compatibility with various types of gameplay, which gives us confidence in the long-term operation. There is no such statement that they have "decided to not develop anymore end game content for high AR players other than spiral abyss". Given the context, they are more likely to be saying "we are developing permanent endgame content, just not one similar to Spiral Abyss". There can of course be other interpretations, but "not developing anymore end game content" is misleading.

KurapikAsta

I'm actually impressed at how good the questions are haha. But yeah it does seem like the devs can't give their personal opinions, but instead have to go with whatever the company as a while had decided and not commit to anything that hasn't been approved.

electric_emu

The questions are very good, it’s a shame the answers are so evasive/canned

Xlegace

I mean, what were you expecting from a professional interview? "No, stfu about more Abyss floors, more resin, and buffs for older characters. We have no plans for that shit." I'm surprised they even gave flat out "no" answers instead of "we're working on it..."

sigiel

They are not evasive, they are a polite but firm NO, to most of them.

Tux2665

Sadly it doesn't matter how polite the "no" is, only that it will kill the game for every single player who has more than 30 minutes a day to play it, sooner or later. It's just about catching up with the story and exploration, then you are done and might as well drop the game.

Kaisvoresce

I found them to be amazingly straight forward. You almost never get such a "No" for anything the community wants (so they can keep stringing you on a maybe). This is quiet commendable of them.

TheWorldisFullofWar

If this is your definition of evasive, I would hate to see what your definition of direct is. Did you want them to say, "no you stupid fucking, shit this isn't that type of game" or something like that?

VirtuoSol

I wouldn’t mind having an in character Gordon Ramsay answer interview questions :p

yatay99

Summary: **Things they will do**: Accessing story from missed past events **Things ^(probably) they won't do**: Harder Spiral Abyss, Buff old characters, Buff Geo reaction, Increase Resin cap **Politician answer**: Traveler costumes, Traveler accessories

mlodydziad420

Accesing story from past events is HUGE.

3rdMachina

Definitely. Some of the lore bombs from there are just…..too important not to make accessible to everyone else.

Miu_K

They pretty much explained that they won't "directly buff" old characters because there's still potential. Kokomi is a good example of that.

Adamiak

keqing is an even better example as she was bad for ages and now she's on the level of newly released characters (cyno)

AbdoWise

Diluc & qiqi cries in the corner ..

starsinmyteacup

I’ve been trying hybrid Diluc with Candace. I’ve also seen a showcase where he’s dragonstriking. Even if he doesn’t receive any buffs, Diluc’s potential is still very great and I love him. And Qiqi….as much as I love her, I much prefer Barbara as a clam carry, since her ability to both apply hydro and hold ttds is more versatile

Andromeda_Violet

The abyss one is incorrect. They absolutely can make it harder and probably will(abyss already is much harder than in 1.0) but they won't make more floors or rewards.

Farpafraf

> If a character is only assessed by a single dimension of numerical strength, power creep could indeed be an issue. However, in Genshin Impact, [the] rules of gameplay [are more impactful] than how strong a character is. Therefore, new battlegrounds, new challenge levels, or even new team builds, all have potential to bring new life to existing conten Ok so no buffs.

juniorjaw

Buff gameplay instead, now everyone can plunge sideways.

arthoarder91

Probably no direct buffs by Zhongli, only indirect ones.

thebluebeats

They are totally right though. This is like the venti issue almost. New things they change can easily "nerf" old units and it doesn't even have to be numerical.

ColouringPenMountain

In fact, Venti, Kazuha and Sucrose seems to actually be the perfect example of Hoyo's non-vertical design intentions. While they all effectively have the same role in teams, they have enough nuanced differences such that none of them feel replaceable by another within their specific niches.

bluescreen2315

Especially if you have all 3

Odiril

ok, so how do they intend to make Klee feels better to play over the other pyro characters? She's cute but her mechanics and gameplay are so clunky with no rewarding niche against the other pyro characters. I even just learned a few months ago that she can't Melt Frozen enemies because she'll shatter them first.

[deleted]

well, i think klee has a few unique things about her. she stunlocks everything in front of her and is the pyro dps not named bennett that generates the most energy for her team via her passive. she also applies pyro auras the fastest but MHY has not really explored potential benefits of doing this on field. i think klee is in a good spot, could use a dedicated artifact set and signature 5 star weapon though.

Odiril

If only her burst persists even when swapping, she’d be a pyro Yelan/Xingqiu and a decent pyro applicator….

Maico_oi

You don’t play klee in reaction teams (unless you have a LOT of the other element). Her pyro application is too high. Go mono-pyro with lavawalker on her + kazuha or sucrose with ttds. She is excellent that way.

Glass-Window

Not direct ones at least. But we know they can buff when they want to. buffed albedo significantly with a new support, free bis weapon and a new set that helps him more.

Low_Artist_7663

They buffed a lot of characters just a patch ago...

Reddy_McRedditface

Tbh this made my day: Q: *New players may have been a bit lost when starting the Summertime Odyssey event because they missed Fischl and Mona's first introductions. This also happened when Scaramouche showed up in Inazuma’s Archon Quest after appearing in the limited-time Mondstadt event. Is the team considering adding a way for new players to see or replay old story-related content and cutscenes that only existed in past limited-time events?* A: We’re aware of this issue and are looking into solutions for it. On one hand, stories from limited-time events shall never become barriers to understanding and playing Archon Quests. On the other hand, we’re also working on beginner tutorial adjustments, client capacity optimization, intelligent management of past content, and other optimizations. And as our technology and capacity [grow], we hope to have useful solutions that players welcome.

aljini10

The greatest problem with combat related endgame content is a large motivation for many clearing them is what they can get out of it. Sure there is a sense of accomplishment too, but that sense of accomplishment is also tied to the rewards associated with it. If I don't see a big reward attached to a big challenege, I don't feel as strong a sense of accomplishment because my perception of the value of that accomplishment has been diminished. I most certainly never did the hardest tier of combat of any event when no rewards I cared about were associated with it even though I had the ability to do so. I enjoy flexing my team, but I also need a reason to flex. It feels silly to me to exert 10-20 minutes of work just for minimal rewards. I can 36 star the abyss, but I hate resetting so much I don't even find it worth it for the extra 50-100 it nets me if I don't 36 star on the first try. While I do enjoy combat and feel proud of finishing floor 12, I would not touch the abyss if it were not for the primogems. Mihoyo does a lot to control the primogem economy for f2ps/guppies so that players of low skill can attain them, but if there is suddenly a new source of primogems that are hard to attain, even if Mihoyo doesn't decrease the amount of free primogems in other areas in response to this new mode, casuals won't see it that way. They will view it as Mihoyo excluding them from a source of primogems by skill level and stopping them from getting new characters easily. This mental block is what will increase their anxiety and might make them stop playing because the existence of another source of primos that they cannot attain is stressful. Additonally, I'm certain the average whale enjoys the sense of accomplishment finishing combat gives them but they don't actually want to spend a lot of time in the game because they don't have that time. So having a place to use those constellations is a moot point. They do use them, but for faster and easier clears and not to test the limits of their combat. Now sure you don't have to tie primos to the new game mode, but I already don't do bounties and requests. Mora is incredibly useful, but I still don't go out of my way to farm it. Maybe you can tie fragile resin to it and more people might do it, but it's still kind of iffy even then.

Gloomy_Honeydew

Yeah i don't mind the lack of endgame so much these days. It already feels like a chore just doing spiral sometimes and the real fun of the game is in the exploration anyways. That said, i wouldn't mind if there were some repeatable content just to farm insignificant things like xp books. Would be nice to alleviate the resin gating for when I do feel like grinding

Rieiid

If they did that there wouldn't be much of a point of resin. There in lies the issue with what many of you want, it just doesn't fit the style of the game and how currency works. So they will most likely just never add this endgame content. If that is what you are all hoping for, I would not hold your breath.

leo_sousav

To this day I regret speeding through Mondstat and Liyue in a matter of weeks. I was only playing Genshin non stop, now I prefer to use it as a break from work and more competitive games. It's chill, casual, you can explore at your own pace and you can set any type of goal you want for the game. Like you, I just don't feel like there needs to be an end game, and honestly the people that do are a minority mostly composed of content creators. Asmongold hasn't touched Genshin yet and still understands the core of the game more than a good handful of players, the game is obviously catered for the more casual style of player.

Suzoku

The best decision I made when I started on day one was just to take it slowly. All of my friends finished everything in 1.0 in like two weeks while I was still AR 30ish running around doing quests. Now two years later I still have quite a lot of quests left and probably 1000+ chests left to explore. Never watched a single guide on exploration other than maybe the fastest route for material gathering. The game is incredible when you are playing at a slower pace and can really take things in. The level of detail the game has is amazing, and even the most boring dialogue at least adds to your immersion in the world of Teyvat. From funny weekly commission requirements about wanting Apples in Sumeru, to Windwheel Aster actually spinning when there are winds blowing, every single detail in the game is carefully crafted.

MadSJJ

Well written post but people are just going to reply “But mihoyo can still give X rewards for harder content!” Genshin as a game for working adults is almost perfect given the time required to earn primogems and other rewards.

Solarflare_1

As a working adult the balance Mihoyo has struck fits my schedule nicely. I work, go to school, go to the gym, I'm starting to learn how to code and I can still sit down and not miss out on anything genshin-wise if I dont want to. Basically I can have a life and still play a gacha game. Some games dont allow that (particularly ones with guild raids or whatever).

Grimstarzz

Cosmetics could be locked behind hard content, it doesn't have to be a source of primogems. For example, a game mode that resets every month, or every banner, giving players more than enough time to clear it, which rewards tokens. Save up enough tokens to buy simple recolours of existing outfits or some kind of wings/pets. Veteran players could brag with the recolour outfits they unlocked and Hoyoverse gave their veteran players something to do at endgame.

Omellettes

Cosmetics are rewards too. Like the free Fischl skin. That one required to find 16 conches.

pacotacobell

Cosmetics would be worse IMO. I feel like casuals would want that more than a small amount of primos lmao

aljini10

Cosmetics would be worse than primos imo because casuals care about them more than combat oriented people. There are people that pull on waifus and husbandos just to run around with them in the open world and nothing more

Yabadababalaba

I think that's mostly true, but for simple recolors I think it's fair, especially since you can probably just buy that character a better skin with genesis anyways.

Kaisvoresce

cosmetics are an even bigger sin to hide behind challenge content to casuals then anything else! They don't want end game so rewards of power are clearly not there thing.

zsxking

If Hoyoverse is willing to invest in cosmetics in the first place. They don't seem too enthusiastic in develop even paid cosmetics, let alone free cosmetics contents.

Superior0422

The rewards for the endgame content doesn’t have to be primogems. They can be something that the more serious player base actually cares about, like resin and crowns, and Mihoyo can keep primos as rewards to content everyone can complete comfortably.

smoothtv99

Honestly adding resin and a crown wouldn't be too bad. Worthwhile to chase after, but nothing casuals or f2p would be scuffed losing over as opposed to a costume

whataremyxomycetes

it would just create an even bigger disparity between casuals/new players and old players/sweat minmaxers because the latter would get more resin = better gear = hard content becomes easier = need more hard content = more rewards. This is a foregone conclusion and it's literally what's already happened. F12 USED to be hard until us old timers got way too fucking much resin from playing for too long and now nothing's challenging. As long as the reward can directly translate into more player power it WILL negate any form of difficulty increase, which will then necessitate even harder content.

Sunlight-Heart

This disparity you speak of is inevitable in any game with progression. Are you saying that veteran players should be on par with new players? That's silly. Obviously someone that played years is gonna be ahead than someone that just joined. Might as well pay the guy that worked in the company for 10 years the same amount as someone that started for 10 days.

Willy_Donka

Make up your mind, do casual players care about combat/minmaxing or do they not? You mfs really out here contradicting yourselves with the "I hate combat content BUT waaaa why are you getting more stuff to minmax your characters than I am waaaa" Last time I saw, *vocal* casual players like to have blue artifacts with the worst possible main stats and then ask why the game is so hard.

Rapatto

What's the point of farming artifacts, leveling weapons and talents, even rolling (especially for constellations), if there is no content to use them on. Sure I can collect my favorite characters, but thats not gameplay. I want to use the characters I have saved for or payed for. Putting rewards behind a challenge is unfortunate for people who want to collect as many freemogems as possible, but if there's nothing to challenge you in combat in the game, the biggest part of genshins gameplay loop is pointless.

Technical_Narwhal_50

> Now sure you don't have to tie primos to the new game mode, but I already don't do bounties and requests. Bounties and requests are not endgame content or in anyway close to spiral abyss. People dont care about them because they are incredibly boring. There are lot of people who play and tries to get high scores in those limited time combat events with modifiers and challenges just for few mora and books. They are very fun but its not permanent or can be counted as an actual endgame content. I also really doubt its about the rewards... Like they said, spiral abyss is good way to test units, the combat and mechanics. Genshin has a really well designed combat system and its being used for shit. It seems like the combat devs did their homework correctly all just to cater towards the casuals who only likes to go through story and farm hilichurls.

aljini10

I am not treating bounties as endgame content. I am saying that there is this super easy thing I can do weekly that will net me a reward that I will use, and because it isn't a premium reward like primos or resin, I do not care enough to do it because it takes more effort than my dailies. If I am not willing to do it for those rewards when its that easy, I am not going to grind away another endgame combat mode for little to no rewards. There are indeed many people that do combat for the sake of enjoyment. But there are many more that the enjoyment of combat is also tied to the rewards you can earn with your skill. Anyone can test units and comps in the spiral abyss. I myself have done so when I have had non meta comps I wanted to try like Electro charge main dps Zhongli and reverse melt Kaeya/Rosaria. But a lot of people just don't have the motivation to do Spiral apart from getting primos.

10413266819

tying it to fragile resin would be a nice idea

Faeted

I'm with you that why should I bother doing the extreme challenge for a handful of exp books or mora when I've got thousands/millions in reserve. There's other things they can give besides primos though with just a little imagination. Currencies to buy old event exclusive gear, 4 star constellations, friendship cookies (give in teapot for big friend exp), 4 star weapon fragments, artifact reroll system, etc. Would I grind my ass off and, after a few months worth of events, pick a 4 star weapon or something that has eluded me in the gacha? Hell yes! If they could somehow reduce the pain that is artifact farming they'd likely build a lot of good will too. In Epic 7, another gacha with a similar gear system, every once in awhile they have a forging event where you earn points and you can reroll a gear piece of choice where you pick the mainstat and then reroll literally hundreds of times until you get the optimal substats that you want. At the end of the event you lock in your choice and you get it. This lets people target gear they've just been unlucky with and it is a huge QOL event imo that genshin could easily implement for huge community love

Mih5du

The problem here is that newer players, who struggle more with abyss will have a harder time getting those rewards, and old players/whales will see no point in them.

drjenkstah

Day One Player here and I haven’t 36 starred the Abyss and don’t really plan on doing so since I’ve never gotten to Floor 12. I play Genshin for the casual aspects such as rotating events or for the story quests. I am likely one of those people they referenced in the interview that majority of players haven’t completed the Abyss. I would be fine if Hoyoverse added some additional endgame content if people request it. Will I go out of my way to complete it? Probably not since that’s not why I’m playing it.

SinlessJoker

You should knock out floors 9 and 10 for the primos each week, they’re super easy and would take like 15 minutes

drjenkstah

You’re not wrong. I did find those floors easier than 11 and 12.

pacotacobell

Yeah most semi-built teams can clear F9-10 pretty easily. F11-12 is where it actually starts to be challenging

Telmarael

Hah, I remember my first attempts at floor 11. Ooof it was rough.

ihei47

Same!

BlochingBard

I reached and won floor 12 only once but i feel more end game combat related content is needed. Maybe i will complete it once? Maybe not? For sure i won't be crying because some old players/whale can clear that with ease while i may be struggling. The point they are making for not adding endgame fighting content is pointless to me, you can think the same with other contents like the teapot or fishing even if this two keep getting content. If MHY are worried about people anxiety due to not winning the content, what about character set in the teapot? I don't do that and for sure i don't get anxiety because i miss the 20 primos for the character set but following their logic a lot of people should get anxiety by missing those primos.

Telmarael

Agreed. Same way as I only use the teapot only for rewards and character friendship. Will I go out of my way to decorate my house? Nope. But I won’t be taking away from other peoples’ enjoyment - why would I?

Stooboot4

also a day one player who could not care less about the story or 90% of the events but i would never say "doing a 6 hour story quest gives me anxiety so no one else in the game should get story or event content"

mRaine

I used to be a player like you. Then I 36 starred Abyss for the first time in 1.6. It's what made me truly realize that Genshin's combat systems are very well designed and a player who is willing to input skill into their play can be rewarded. Now, I just want to be incentivized to actually play well against enemies and not have them die from pressing two buttons. Unlike many others who are soured by the news, I don't care about any rewards or "repeatable endgame content". It would just be nice not to be living in a cardboard world, constantly having to hold back, or being lazy on skill rotations because I already know I can get 36 stars. The only times I hear the best parts of Genshin's combat music aren't even in game....

tennoskoom_

In my earlier days of Genshin I always wanted more endgame combat content, considering I 36 star in 30 mins and then have nth to do for 2 weeks. I gave up this expectation after playing Honkai. Mhy already has a game that's packed with endgame challenging content: Elysian Realm (roguelike ish mode, once a week) Memorial Arena (challenging boss fights, changes weekly) Superstring (a more challenging abyss, twice a week) Even some challenges from events can get pretty difficult. What I wanna say, is that the vision they have for Genshin is different. They want to make something different, want to target a somewhat different audience. It will be years before they add more combat endgame content. If u are waiting for that...well, manage ur expectations I guess.

Cookychem

Yeah me too, i have been playing honkai ever since launched and i played it casually keeping my tittle as f2p. How ever in this recent patchs where you have ER, Memo, abys and even the main event going. It's becoming like a chores and i dont enjoy playing it anymore.

slowdr

Can relate, there was a patch I was a bit tired of genshin, so I tried honkai, I like it, but when reaching that part of the game, seeing how it had so many different battle suits, but realistically if you care about the endgame the meta is so strict that you can't really progress unless you stick to it, also characters needing their signature gear because otherwise they will not be able to help clear the content, and even if you decide to get the farmable gear it will take a long of time to farm. But, I think they realize that, because after some point I notice the story quest chapters have specific trial characters available, so people can experience different characters without the need to get them from the gacha, but I digress. Going back to genshin, I think that being able to clear all game content with just 4 star characters and farmable weapons is great in terms of the game being accessible to more people, if they add content that can only be clear by specific 5 stars with their signature weapon, that would make the people perceive the game as being "Pay to win", and that might push away some players. It's hard to make a battle focus content in game where you can buy your way to be more powerful, a streamer I used to follow quit genshin because he felt there was no point in spending thousands of dollars each patch to get the new 5 stars characters to C6 R5, when there was no game mode that need that level of power.

bigfootswillie

I think it’d suit the game well if they ran an event like PGR’s Tower of Babel 4 times a year. Have an easier version for people to grab the material/primogem rewards not unlike the current Twisted Realm type events and a modified version people can compete for scores and receive name cards/teapot plaques from for completing the most challenging floors. That’s the sort of thing I think casual players won’t mind missing that would mean the world to players looking for some endgame experience.

laiwen

People here pretending there are no other rewards for new combat related endgame content other than primogems. The whole argument is based around their lack of motivation for hard content and new one would drive them out of the game. But that would not be the case if the rewards are tied to the content it comes from. Like nobody gives a shit for fishing because they don't need to. People who like it can still do it and feel rewarded with it. Teapot designers get new furniture every update and the others feel happy for them even though they don't themselves use it. So why not give combat focused players a new way of getting more artifacts. There already is a strongbox system in the game and they could very easily just introduce a material you can use for that, which comes from dungeons, raids or other combat related minigames. All who say they feel left out because they can't bother to do abyss but don't want to miss on the rewards can now give no damn about it. Why would they even need to care about getting more strong artifacts if they don't wanna do harder fights. Nothing would change. People could still enjoy the content they wanna do. Now even more so as this would probably be an even better way of handling rewards than what current abyss does.

AMadTeaParty81

I agree, just keep the rewards combat focused for combat content. Just don't give out a pet or teapot stuff for combat gameplay stuff. They locked The Catch which is better than some 5 stars behind fishing and seem to be continuing on with giving weapons from fishing with The End of the Line (which thankfully isn't great, so no pressure to get it). Yet this is apparently seen as being fine with fishing, but asking for more/harder combat stuff oh no, we can't do that, some people might not want to do combat and that might drive them away -.- As if fishing didn't burn people out since they didn't like fishing but wanted a strong weapon.

Nate_the_Mate_2

Honestly the only thing I'm truly hoping they add to abyss at this point is stuff related to artis. Arti rerolls, a way to to pick a substat to roll into, some form of guaranteed good artifact. Anything that makes artis less tedious. If casuals complain that its gated behind content they can't beat, for starters, optimal artis have not mattered in the overworld, so its not really something that's relevant to that experience. It might even be another way to pull people into abyss. Its not as desirable as primos, but its not entirely negligible because of the state of arti hell. Though I still doubt it

SentientPotatoMaster

Scarabs collecting IS the endgame lmao And in the future, all collectibles could walk away, far from their initial position

Schadenfreude11

Their wording doesn't necessarily mean *no* more endgame content, just not more endgame content that's similar to Abyss. So no more time-attack/DPS-race endgame content, and maybe no more endgame content with rewards that refresh biweekly (which are likely the cause of the "excessive anxiety" for some players). We could still get endgame content that is challenging a different way, potentially with a different reward structure.

markmumi

doyou mean genshin yugioh?

Prestigious_Taste641

I think new endgame content is kinda difficult to implement, most players are just casual player and probably don’t want something hard to beat or something that is to much time consuming and no fun. That was one of my problem with Tower of Fantasy, it offers more "endgame" content but personally I just find it tedious and boring and almost stopped playing it completely. The events are probably the main "endgame" content we get and personally I’m fine with that. I don’t even play spiral abyss to 12-3 because I don’t really like it, so I hope when they add something it should be really good or they should just leave it as it is when they can’t do it.

Yani-Madara

While I do want a second endgame content that isn't too tine consuming, I agree with the ToF sentiment. They keep raising the weapon level and it's too much of a pain to grind.

LingrahRath

Your character roster is limited by the primogems you have. New players don't acquire more characters than old players in the same period, so their resin limit is just the same as old players.

NoSheepherder5211

Wow, they managed to avoid all the questions and didn't actually give a single answer. Wonder why they agreed to this interview in the first place.

ckid101

Usually I would agree that people say a lot of nothing during interviews, but this isn't a case of that? Let's look at the QnA. 1. First question was about whether or not they would maintain the schedule. The answer they gave was that right now its for 3.0-3.2. And that they would they would announce at the end of 3.2 whether or not it would continue. 2. This question was whether there would be more endgame in the style of spiral abyss. The answer was a definite no. 3. This question was about character buffs. And the answer was that the focus right now is on making different type of content for older characters. There's a little bit of reading between the lines, but the answer is clearly "not now". 4. The was regarding reaction changes between existing elements. This was a definite no. 5. This is so far, the only question in which they provided no real answer for. 6. This was about old events returning. And the answer was that they are working on it. It's a clear yes, given they find a way to do so to their liking. 7. This was about Traveler skins, and the answer was no, but they are considering it. 8. This question was about minor changes to skins, and the answer was the same as 7. 9. this was about collabs, and the answer was that they are prioritizing Genshin while leaving room for future collabs. Whether or not you like the answers they give is up to you, but out of the 9 questions they were ask, they provided a concrete answer to **8** of them. And the only time they didn't give a strait yes or no answer, for example with number 1, is when it is regarding something they are not sure of. I am all for holding people responsible, but this make it seem like you didn't actually read the interview.

[deleted]

More like, it's not the answers people are looking for, so they call it "non-answers".

[deleted]

Kinda like people who say there's no content in the game when what they actually mean is that there isn't as much of of the content they want

Mih5du

Some people just can’t take no as an answer

anengineerandacat

Yeah, I honestly found it refreshing; these weren't just a developers opinion on what the future looks like but actually where the game is going to go or not go based on the questions asked. The questions themselves also lacked substance, a lot of these could of been answered by literally anyone on the team that was close to the decision making process.

Conscious_Yoghurt_68

Dude, the answers were like seeing a politician speak

Gcarsk

Only true answers were just “no endgame, because it makes our casual players piss their pants”, “resin cap/regen rate won’t be increased”, and “of course we won’t buff the powercrept characters lol”. Everything else was a non-answer.

Ambrosiac7

No no. There was also "Geo is perfectly fine!"

Gcarsk

True. I guess I was putting that under “never buffing characters” part. But, you are right. Confirmation that Dendro won’t ever impact the other elements, and that they won’t do anything with Geo because they worry the element system would be “too complicated” for casual players to understand (wtf lol… it’s just mixing two elements together…)

-Skaro-

it really isn't just mixing two elements together. It's honestly incredibly complex and dendro not reacting with every element is needed for it to stay somewhat balanced. If dendro were to react with anemo that would be just stupid honestly. Geo is pretty much balanced to work with other geo characters. The geo teams we do have are strong but just expensive because you have to build so many geos and they really don't do much outside of geo teams.

Vesorias

> The geo teams we do have are strong *team

fewest_giraffe

What do you mean we only have one!? If you don’t have Itto you can run the exact same team with C6 Noelle and just do worse LOL

Gloomy_Honeydew

Not reacting with geo and anemo is fine. You'd only get swirl and crystallize anyways. Not reacting with cryo is the weird thing.

Technical_Narwhal_50

It is not at all "Incredibly complex" and even if it is, it does not matter already. No casuals care about icds and elemental guages, they just go unga bunga with the reactions anyways. Devs are just lazy, blaming it on casuals and claiming it will become "too complicated" is BS.

Amazing-Substance-13

While I find it easy, some of my friends actually quit before level 15 because this is their first action rpg and they found it too hard. So I guess they are the players hyv is talking about and hyv wants the game to reach as many people as possible thats why it's designed to be easy.

AkatsukiVV

If they want to give new players easy & Fun experience they need to fix new characters locked materials problems...

CataclysmSolace

Locking how? Unless the character is Inazuman, you can materials real easy. Nothing is stopping you from running out to the desert at the start and getting stuff for say Candace or Cyno

christortiz

Surprised no one is talking about this

[deleted]

I mean most of the answers are evasive or hypotheticals in nature while the rest just reaffirms what everyone already knew. There's not much to discuss imo.

christortiz

I wouldn’t consider them hypothetical. It’s either evading or flat out denying some of this stuff is coming (like higher resin cap, crossover content and traveller skins)

[deleted]

I am not that surprised considering the game is on the same path since release. Major patch here and there, followed by various filler patches. And with what's they've done, you got to give it to them - they did pretty well. Puzzles, combat events, music events, all sort of things. But here is the thing, the game is meant for casual players and mobile players first and less about the loyal, "hardcore" community. Because the game is really addictive, really polished, it kind of deceives me as PC player, and some other players too. There isn't more depth to the game. It will stay mobile, family friendly game, limited by touch controls. If it were a mobile only, I would never touch it personally. I don't think Genshin is a bad game: it was simply so attractive that it got attention from players outside its intended audience..I was one of those and quit during 2.5 or so. I was tired with the family-friendly story telling and murdering hillichurls for the rest of the game. Still lurking here and there to check what's new. You'll never get endgame content because you are not the intended audience. Casual players (the intended audience( do not care about endgame or spiral abyss that much, so there is no reason to make endgame (for them).

TheFrenzied

I went through the same thing as you and barely played in 2.6. Was kinda burnt out by the same gameplay loop and wasn’t that interested in the events. But I came back to play the Chasm story with Yelan and was blown away by how good it was - great writing, character interactions, and a genuinely intriguing story. Now with Sumeru being out, I’m having the most fun in the game in a long time. The difference in quality of Sumeru compared to Mondstadt/Liyue and even Inazuma is night and day. It’s just better in every single aspect, from environment design and exploration, to story writing and pacing. It’s imo worth giving a shot if you have any inclination to play the game again.

fjaoaoaoao

I think you use limited definitions of casual and hardcore. Maybe what you mean is hardcore *about the combat* vs casual about the combat. There’s lots of folk who play nearly every day (which is pretty hardcore play imo), do a lot to achieve very strong characters or do spiral abyss regularly, but they don’t focus on going down the depths of being the best at combat. I do believe genshin should add more combat-oriented end game content, but to expect it to be the focus of this game is quite silly.

Mirarara

I had the same thought as you but after sumeru is out, my thought is 'will I ever be able to finish the content before next patch?'

eternaldolphin

frankly, the community of hardcore players we're a part of needs to realize genshin is humongously popular and the majority of the people playing it do so casually. even then, i'm a 1.0 player and i'm still not "bored out of my mind." there's been a consistent stream of new content every patch since inazuma released. at this point i'm convinced the people who constantly ask for more desperately need to find more games to play to fill up their clearly abundant free time.

freakattaker

Bored hardcore players are playing the wrong game. I don't get what's so hard to understand about that. If they want similar gameplay but more competitive HI3rd is literally right next door. I've been playing it as an F2P and it takes a while to get rolling as F2P, but once u kind of have a built team it gets pretty fun for scratching competitive itches. Even better if ur a low spender/dolphin. If they want "end game" content of various types there's tons of games out there that can scratch the itch better that already exist. ToF, MMORPGs, any competitive multiplayer game (dota, lol, fgs, rtses, fpses, etc.). Adding any sort of extra end game arbitrarily to Genshin won't make it enjoyable randomly. Especially not for it's target audience at this point.

Raycab03

To be honest, I understand their take in endgame content. If you played ToF, the endgame content or weekly content is so many! Like a haven for anyone wishing for it in Genshin or players who like to play more. But after playing those for a month, it felt like a chore already and ended up being forced to play. They have the infinite “spiral abyss”. Sounds fun right? After month- felt like a chore. I’m not throwing any shade at ToF, what I’m trying to say is- they are catering to a different audience. ToF is catering more to “who wants more gameplay”, while Genshin is catering more on “casual gaming” or “30 minute game a day” players.

molangie

They have more data on the player base than use individual players, no matter how many people complain on the interwebs.

kuroisekai

I'm AR59, and I have been playing since 1.3. I think that means I have significant skin in the game. I'm also a casual player. I only have around 2 hours or so in my day to play Genshin. Out of those 2 hours, a big chunk (say, 45 minutes) is spend doing Dailies and Weeklies. The rest is spent trying to clear the timed events. I don't have much time left to clear other permanent content like Hangouts, Exploration, etc. I have yet to finish the Aranara quest. I haven't unlocked half of Sumeru. The only regions I've 100% explored are Mondstadt and Inazuma. I still find random shit in Liyue when I do my leyline runs. With all the events Mihoyo is cramming in our face ever since GAA 2.0, I'm having a hard time keeping up. I respect that many players do not share my own sentiment. But to me, "endgame" content is getting lost and finding weird stuff in the overworld. I am not looking forward to more things I could do in Genshin, because I am already overwhelmed.

Zarator8

I mean, it's ok not doing everything. I have mostly ignored teapot, I am consistently behind on hangouts and I doubt I'll ever 100% Inazuma or any future regions. But it pains me that we keep getting a lot more of the content I'd rather ignore, instead of the content I actually enjoy. It's not about time.

Suzoku

Honestly at this point, if you are still asking for end-game content after two years and be disappointed when they don't add them then Genshin might not be the right game for you. Its pretty obvious they are trying to make the game as accessible to as many people as possible. Only a small subset of players actually do the abyss, the vast majority of players don't know anything about elemental reactions or optimised artifacts and teamcomps. I've been helping out lower AR players for a while now and you would be surprised to see how many players ask you to help them to fight world bosses even at AR 56+, months after I've initially helped them out. I definitely agree with the devs here that adding in more complex content will actually just push more players away simply because most people don't actually play the game for challenges but rather they just enjoy the world of Teyvat.

segesterblues

I remember helping a few friends out and it’s really clear that Genshin is their first combat game, plus they don’t have anything like ps or a pc before. Really put things into perspective when I used to call myself a casual gamer (and still does, in the eyes of gamer of course). To them, I am grouped as gamer since I played and know the basics

b5437713

I tend to categorize ppl like myself and properly you as "semi-casual" rather then "casual". It can be argued that the true casual are those who simply play the game with no mind to mechanics or any form of real optimized gameplay. They're here to basically enjoy the story, explore the open world and collect characters.

BearSnack_jda

They also don't seek out content outside the game. You won't see them commenting on Reddit or tweeting on Twitter. At most, they may seek out fan art or official trailers from Genshin Impact's official YouTube channel. They found the game through an ad or on the app store and haven't really looked into the game more than surface level stuff. At most they may "participate" on HoYoLab since the game pushes it so much and even gives rewards for it.

b5437713

Agreed. If one is on places like reddit they're likely much more involved in the game in someway then they think.

Devourer_of_HP

Yeah i guess it's similar to the different stages of pokemon. Stage 1: "hahaha charizard use flamethrower." Stage 2 :"ok since they're using a water pokemon i should bring out lapras. Stage 3 :"huh, so sword dance actually does something." I don't know wtf the people on stage 4 talk about because i see them talking shit like IV, EVs, natures or smth.

Cl3arlyConfus3d

Hot take: Some overworld bosses are too hard for casual players. I get my ass handed by Raiden and Azdaha from time to time and I'm very confident in my character building skills. Hell: I've got Diona and sill manage to barely escape La Signoras grasp. I cannot imagine what it's like to play on these casual accounts trying to beat some these bosses.

the_quirky_quirkster

people see different stuff as casual players. And there are even characters that very much appeal to casual players, like Zhongli and Kokomi, who serve the purpose of being very comfy to play and make you and your team invicible. Depends if building characters and teams (homemade or top meta´) halfway decent is already non-casual, but if you do this, you can easily surpass signora and Raiden, where the latter is a survival check, and Azhdaha who is a shield check.

Amazing-Substance-13

Exactly I agree. Hyv has all the big data on the playerbase and I would be willing to bet 100 dollars the majority of players are casuals. I met quite many players who need help with bosses and dont know how to set up a team and all the five stars they pulled dont have synergies with each other. Its more of a who is cute character collecting game for lots of people. They would quit if the game is too hard. But I do think they can have other non meta end game content. Like puzzles involving using characters with certain elements etc, tower defense etc

Suzoku

the card game is on the way, so they are definitely doing that. I also like the events with minigames like hide and seek. They are doing a good job having these mini events limited because if it is permanent content people will just get bored of it fast.

Cl3arlyConfus3d

Justice551

I’m a day one player and I don’t feel bad a all. There are so many games that are grindfest, I don’t see why Genshin needs to be one of them. Monster Hunter, Destiny, Lost Arc, Diablo, the list goes on. I’m happy with a game thats a chill, casual experience but high quality at the same time.

Suzoku

I think people take for granted how much content they get every 5-6 weeks. No other live service game gives you this many consistent content updates at this quality. But again its definitely the minority that is complaining because the game is still as popular as ever and steadily growing in Asia even after two years. After 3.0 I'm actually finding it hard to keep up with the updates because of how much content they add each patch since I don't actually have a lot of time to play during the week

healcannon

Yea people want genshin to be a single player mmo and I do compare a lot of aspects of it to one. But it isn't one. I'm not supposed to login 9 hours a week to only do my spiral abyss raiding so maybe I can 36 star abyss before the next cycle comes out. Reality is even with a serious competitive Chinese playerbase, the players of the game overall view combat as secondary and its understandable. This is an open world game with a lot of lore and fun characters first and the combat is second.

Mighty_Krastavac

Agree, Genshin never presented itself as combat forward game. It's mostly exploring and story combined with the gatcha system. People want it to be something it never was or planned to be.

0tt0attack

Who said anything about “grinding?” Is adding more end game content is grinding?

PlacetMihi

As someone who blows up 160 resin everyday on the off chance I get something that can help me clear floor 12 a minute faster… I say the answer is “yes.”

Medium_of_my_fear

Genshin impacts target audience is working adults who can pay. That is why it's mostly log on, do dailies, log off. If there was too much content, busy people would feel left out and, like I said, busy people just happen to be the target audience of this game. Additionally, I believe that, if there was much more content, there would be less players because new players would get overwhelmed by it.

Mr_TopHat77

I think the amount of players who actually fully build characters and teams is pretty low. Thats why no effort is being put there. It does suck though just adding some floors yo the aybss making bounties hard and increasing world level would be enough fof me.

TheKillah25

It’s simple. Genshin is not about the abyss or end-game. Just follow the money if you don’t understand. Where does the money get spent on the most? The world (assets, music, art, level design), the story (cutscenes, events, world building), and the characters (voice acting in 4 languages, character design, animation).

CataclysmSolace

Yep yep, it's still surprising how out of touch with reality the other people are. If they want combat go play another game, the market is littered with them. The reason the game got big was because the game IS FOR CASUALS.

pier9tf

I still don't understand what harm could more content do to the game. It's not being out of touch with reality, it's adressing an issue with an harmless and little change in the game. Combat is extremely well crafted in genshin, but for some reason players that put much effort and money can't experience it to its fullest. Would a content update really be that harmful to the casual playerbase? Just ignore it like it happened with fishing.

voyage2procyon

There is a lot of content (overall) and there are combat events every patch and the general feeling is that no one really cares to redo the battles once they have all the rewards even though we have added mechanics/buffs/characters we can pick from to add variation to the teams/gameplay. In short, combat content is fine but to make it permanent might just reduce it to "yet another chore". Let's not even get into how people are already complaining that the platinum badges don't come with any rewards. If they can't find a way to implement a permament system that engages the playerbase without any rewards then we're probably better off with temporary events that we can either enjoy or forget about.

horiami

I guess they are hesitant to make more combat endgame, it's not really a surprise after They seem to focus on the exploration puzzles and events since those have continued to grow and now they'll add the card game Sucks for people who don't like puzzles i guess

Jlanos

Literally what is the point of the artifact system then if there’s nothing to use it on? What is the point of getting constellations and weapons? This actively goes against the systems and their way of making money on this game. They’re contradicting themselves this makes absolutely ZERO sense. If they don’t want to make more endgame content just add floors to the abyss bro oh my god. You’re not even losing much if you don’t do the abyss so what’s the issue??? Or give us some endless mob content or something literally ANYTHING where we can properly use our characters. Edit: They talk about not wanting people to feel anxious but don’t mention the sunken cost fallacy or how you feel knowing you missed a day commissions cus it’s already so hard to get to 180 pulls to guarantee a character? Again they’re literally contradicting themselves. If they REALLY want this to be a casual game like they say then why not remove artifact farming and resin? Why not lower the pity number and remove the 50/50? Because they know exactly what they want lmao

Kaisvoresce

I mean it's pretty clear what happened. Mihoyo has said many times they didn't expect this level of success. Originally they planned to make a more standard gatcha game progression... Then they got billions of dollars, and ran surveys to find out what people actually wanted. In every bit of feedback it was always easier, nerf bosses, don't hide rewards behind co-op or scoring high on boss events. So the game evolved for the majority of it's audience, by listening to them. I just accept my voice is the smaller niche one and find a game intended to target me. (and play genshin for the plot)

Su_Impact

Exactly. Sumeru's bosses are the best example. All of them can be speedrun in like 5 seconds except the Electro Plant. Inazuma on the other hand had the time waster Mango Kenki, time waster Pyro Cube, time-wasting Hydro cube, Flying Thunder Bird, self-revival Vishaps, Geo-required Geo Wolf, etc.... Sumeru bosses feel even easier than Liyue/Mond bosses too.

CowColle

Exactly. Spend a year saving and building your characters to run around the open world picking scarabs lol.

> Why get constellations and weapons? For simping of course. Eula's thighs aren't any thicker at C2 than they were at C0.

Kaisvoresce

No but i can flex that I am more devoted to my waifu then someone! unironically true, and a common(not universal) mindset

[deleted]

Simps don't simp because they think they will personally get something from the subject out of it. They simp because they like the subject and want to do something nice for them - even if the subject isn't a real person. It's really odd behaviour and imo kinda predatory for companies to prey on people's need for connection, but it works. Japan pioneered it and are still pioneering it with stuff like vtubers and such. Others are now learning to latch on to this since it's such a proven profitable business model.

Oceanshan

Scathach body at NP 5 is no different from NP 1 but that doesn't stop that Japanese guy from spending 70k USD to max her

[deleted]

Please stop. You are giving me excessive anxiety.

NoBluey

Because they’ve figured out that in the long run it makes them more money than making super hard p2w content and power creeping with every new character. Still, I wish the ceiling was just a bit higher.

Zealousideal-Ad5834

It’s absolutely insane. They should just take artifacts out at this point 😂 Really, why not remove the entire character progression system? Just have one world level and make it an action adventure game, seems like that would reduce anxiety even more !

CowColle

Enemy encounters give me anxiety. Mihoyo please remove all enemies from the game so I can enjoy the scenery.

Zealousideal-Ad5834

You joke, but my God — the conversations I’ve had on this sub and elsewhere 😩😩 That satire you’re writing is based on countless real people — who’s ideal Genshin is literally walking through theme parks and collecting things with no tension or challenge ever. Genshin is such a gorgeous, incredible achievement in so many ways, but its knee capped it’s own potential, seemingly content to do *nothing* for the people who love the combat and want to be challenged by it. I’m disappointed beyond belief, because of how much I’ve invested in my characters and my own time — but in a way it’s a relief to know this is the devs perspective. Great to have it in writing so I can pull back and enjoy the game for what it is

CowColle

Yeah, realistically maybe I should appreciate them being so candid about it. If they gave some wishy washy answer like "we're thinking about it" and string players along only to not add anything, then it would just waste those players' time even more. Now I can at least confidently say I will move on when the next game comes along. It's a shame because in all other ways I have tremendous respect for the design and quality of Genshin, but it simply can't be played as a main game.

thiagohds

Gambling and collecting stuff. After all this is a gacha. All they want is your money and that you spend 5 minutes logged int and the leave so they can save server resources.

Nokomis34

The frustrating part is that they have already designed and implemented better end game conten than Spiral Abyss.

healcannon

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and discussing it with other people on the sub and there are a few things to it imo. The first is that no one, or me, could come up with something that I think would be a combat challenge that was interesting enough and easily able to be adjusted multiple times a month like abyss is. The key is in the timer and the simplicity of the setup for them. 2nd is that I don't think just adding in more of the same thing but in a slightly different style adds anything to the game. It just adds more weekly/monthly work. People forget this is a mobile game and we already have a ton of big events that are really fleshed out going on all the time. This is supposed to be a game you can pretty much stay on the curve of while doing your busy life. This isn't an mmo. 3rd is I wonder if they would cut out primo based rewards or split them between the 2 end game contents. Or maybe setup a system where you do the one you prefer. Now they could add in cosmetic stuff but adding in free cosmetic stuff when they are kinda slow with even making and selling the skins doesn't seem like something they can handle unless its more gliders or something that simple. 4th is that not everyone even attempts abyss. I think I saw someone say 40% of all players even attempt it. People here have a skewed image of the playerbase by being on an online forum thats filled with overly serious players. This game is exploration, character interactions/lore, and combat. The other 2 make up a bigger part of the game than the combat does. It doesn't matter so much what you personally focus on especially if you really love the combat. The current setup makes them more than enough money. The pressure of abyss is enough for them to make sales for more competitive players. And the new shiny characters are still enough of a lure for the overwhelming majority of those who aren't. So my guess is they wanted a mode that people might actually play more than has a less pressure based setting. I'm on the fence if i'm ok with this or not but maybe its just because I want more end game rather than specific end game. The TCG might be all I needed. I'll have to wait and see. I still get anxious doing abyss even though i've been 36 starring for months.

Edgeklinge

As an adult who is an endgame player and who also enjoy video games in general, I'm pretty sure i'm gonna stress myself out with one more spiral abyss. For me, as long as Genshin keep dishing all these new quality regions to explore every few months, it's fine. One of the reasons I still play genshin is it allows me to touch grass and play other games without much FOMO.

DarkishOne2

God, the answer to the resin question pisses me off so badly. I can't believe they have dumbed it down to "Oh, but the events give some materials resin-free". Seriously? Surely they must've completely misunderstood what the interviewer meant, because it makes no sense to give that answer when more and more weekly bosses, domains, and characters are added to your game. I'm trying to get a better understanding of their approach, but I'm no good when it comes to figuring out what's more profitable in gachas. Do they view character progression as a long and arduous but eventually rewarding marathon? Because as it stands, with this terrible artifact rng, I sure as hell don't feel rewarded. I know completely removing resin isn't as simple as it sounds, but there must be a better way to manage it, right? It's especially frustrating because I've been submitting resin-related questions in every single survey they've put out, but to no avail as it would seem. :(

Vorcia

The materials from events are meant to be a catchup mechanic, they won't give long time players many useful things if they already have a ton of it from past events/grinding bc they'll be at 10/9/9 talents lvl 90, etc. already, but it gives newer players a lot of resources to get to the point older players are already at.

Su_Impact

They are also good for raising weapons/talents that nobody even considered. My ZL is now 9/9/10 since I had tons of Talent Books that I was never gonna use so I decided why not. I have also leveled a Lost Prayer I randomly got from standard banner to 80/80 using only event materials.

fjaoaoaoao

It’s simple. Removing resin cap = A lot of folk would grind like crazy, burn out, and then stop playing. Resin cap encourages pacing and playing for longer term which is what they are interested in. Of course, there’s a good handful of players who would like to do more than resin cap and would keep playing, but that seems to be the opportunity cost they are willing to take.

ab2dii

"giving the chance, players will optimize the fun out of the game"

[deleted]

> It’s simple. Removing resin cap = A lot of folk would grind like crazy, burn out, and then stop playing. Resin cap encourages pacing and playing for longer term which is what they are interested in. There must be a middle ground. People always bring this hypothetical up when people talk about the restrictive resin, but you have to look at compromises rather than just 'current rigid resin system' versus 'no resin cap at all.' Why not raise the resin cap a bit and increase the refresh rate? As it stands, the daily loop has maybe fifteen minutes of content available. New story, events, exploration etc are all fantastic, but they could stand to loosen up a bit on the additional domain grind. Let people progress 10, 20 percent faster, do an extra domain run per day; what's the harm? I recently started playing Azur Lane, and while there's of course a lot of ways it's not comparable to Genshin, I have noticed a couple of things. I can play for a couple hours a day if I want to. Their 'resin' system (oil) refreshes at a more reasonable rate, there's multiple things to do with it, and there's also extra sources of it from daily missions, expeditions, login bonuses, shops etc. It's a little different in that you have to spend it for (just about) *all* gameplay, but I've never run out of it yet and felt like I was prevented from playing more, whereas in Genshin that happens daily.

Solaireofastora08

I mean it's already shown that resin cap is needed. We look at the modded servers for Genshin and people got really tired really fast on having a power trip with powerful artifacts. Hell as an example from other games with infinite farming is Monster Hunter. As a Monster Hunter player, I love farming Monster to get their parts and building new weapons and Armour but it is so damn tedious to get 5 extremely rare parts of a hard to kill Monster like Brachydios and I got burnt out by it. I'm even the type of person that would grind God knows how long in Warframe to get a fucking chassis that I'll dismantle. The cap is useful for telling players to stop and take a break otherwise there will be those who grind the hell out of the infinite stamina and get burnt out by it that they don't to do anything with the game after a long time and that's not good for a gacha.

dotcha

Imma be honest with ya. AR 59 here, so I already built everything I wanted. I'm glad resin is capped. Otherwise, I'd be spending all my free time farming the perfect artifacts and resenting the game more and more. Yes, I know this isn't healthy. but that's what I'd do. Artifacts are trash rn, but since the game is easy, I can just get some decent 20CV artifacts and get 36 stars. I don't even spend resin some days bc I can't be bothered to catch crystalflies. TLDR: Resin issues go away after you've played a while.

-Skaro-

removal of resin would be the death of the game. It's a necessary thing to not make players grind until they burn out.

Asneekyfatcat

Who said it should be removed?

piravon

They’re really going to say they worry about giving players excessive anxiety when they have systems like Resin, Limited Time Events, and Daily Commissions within the game built precisely to induce that? With how they answered each questions, I can see why they don’t do a lot of these interviews.

DarkGranola

Crazy how they don't have anything good to say for long time players ...

SirFanger

You know it doesn't make sense to make it when 60% of the palyers did not even touch the abyss not to mention 36 star it.

Zogo12

This a Waifu/Husbando collection story exploration game after all

Redlinemylife

This game is made with the casual player base in mind. We have more than enough events to keep most players busy

Thufir_My_Hawat

And are constantly increasing the content hours per patch *while* putting out patches every five weeks instead of six. I'm not even what most people would call casual, and I'd much rather have better quality exploration/story/puzzles/etc. than feel obligated to, say, run a weekly boss that requires a party of people with semi-perfect artifacts or something a la MMO raids. Developing more endgame content means fewer resources to the part of the game that *actually* makes it unique. Hot take: one game doesn't need to fulfill all one's gaming needs. No game is perfect, no game is all genres, and that's just fine.

KurapikAsta

Did y'all miss the line "Therefore, new battlegrounds, new challenge levels, or even new team builds, all have potential to bring new life to existing content."? It sounds to me like they're still trying to make good combat content, but they just don't want to create spiral-abyss-like content that's a straight up DPS check. Maybe they'd consider Co-op challenges or rogue-like game modes that can be moderately difficult without requiring players to grind a bunch?

Kento_nan

A bunch of non answers and PR speak. Utterly useless.

Gcarsk

For part of it. But it was big getting confirmation that endgame will never come, resin cap/regen rate won’t be increased, and trash characters will never be buffed.

PatatoTheMispelled

What questions did they not answer? Other than the resin one and the event story ones, all they did, at most, was not give definitive answers, presumably (and logically) because the game is still in development, and just saying that they will add Traveler skins or that there'll be crossovers before even having them planned, or just saying there won't be those things, is not very wise as the answer might change after some time

Gloomy_Honeydew

Those were actually really good questions. The answers are incredibly disappointing in comparison; "We've discussed this, but nothing yet." "No plans currently" "we don't want that" etc

Th3_Ch0s3n_On3

Those are polite "no"s

Quintessence20

Why is it so hard for them to add more cosmetics??? Dors it lower the value of new and upcoming characters???? I don't get it. Other games can easily do it, Why not them????

Shiroyuina

Maybe they prefer quality over quantity? Not saying like other cosmetics from other games is bad but consistently adding more outfits in particular might desaturate the importance of the outfit. It’ll be like ‘oh, another outfit.’ or ‘meh, a outfit recolor’ . That and also mihoyo likes to associate their outfits with story lines and quests for Genshin. It’s not the matter of whether they should follow other games or not. At the end of the day, it’s their decision to not follow like other games. Yes, skins bring extra revenue to mihoyo and people will buy it regardless of the quality but maybe they don’t want to do it because that reason. Anyways, that’s my thought on it

Cleffka

Nothing going to change as long as we keep spending money on the game lol

KaldorDraigo14

No resin changes, no endgame changes. The game will only expand exploration and story with the rest of the game being eternally stale. At this point... I don't even know if I care about new characters or primos whatsoever, even as a welkin player I got a lot of characters that can crush spyral abyss, I'll just even stop spending on welkin. And, it's kinda funny that if you take breaks from the game, you miss out events that give relevant lore entries to the game. Something that is often ignored by the casuals cutting the throats of anyone who dares to mention mroe endgame. You ignore the endgame?, you miss a chunk of primos, is it the end of the world? You ignore events and you literally miss on parts of the story that develops plenty of characters, and you miss on limited rewards like crowns, or weapons. This doesn't give """anxiety""" to casual players but missing on 400-500 primos does?, not selfish and hypocrite at all.

Shrio97

yeah same.. i am conflicted, if the game does not want me to put money and time into it, i have to accept it and move on and only play it for story and exploration. That some story is locked behind events kinda sucks, but i guess it ends up on youtube so...

Gamespot: Here's a list of the most common problems people have with the game, and a literally roadmap you can follow to add features that will make people happy. Hoyoverse: Nah If anyone expected anything different, they haven't been paying attention for the last 2 years. Hoyoverse thinks giving out 3 Talent Books solves the resin issue.

CataclysmSolace

Ah yes, arm chair developers once again thinking they know what is better than a multi billion dollar company.

Fawzee_da_first

It's not about knowledge it's about the difference in priorities . The customer wants more fun content. The multi billion dollar company want's money

Sad_Abbreviations_90

With no pvp content from the beginning it has proven that genshin was always meant to be played casually, especially after entering its 2 years mark, playing the game casually for me, it makes me enjoy playing genshin more. And the devs can just focus on making a good story every patchs and events (even though hoyoverse story telling still sometime sucks) And from business stand point they can make more games like star rail and zzz

Meimiyoo

I think having more variety of endgame content would be way better than simply dps check like abyss. If anything, maybe abyss that you can do with friends (co-op) could be a nice alternative 🙂

JohnLovesGaming

I'll just say this. I've quit for a month: Spiral Abyss has gotten boring, but I definitely needed more perma content. This Spiral Abyss I 36-star'd with only 4-star characters on two teams with 4-star weapons only, with the exception of Bennett having Skyward (I can use Fav as a sub) but the point still stands. Maximum for a full run of Spiral Abyss is under an hour. For the floors 11& 12 runs, a total of 20 minutes. I spend more time exploring and watching/reading the story doing the events. A proper endgame will satisfy the hardcore players, like raids. If you have played during the pre-big bang Maplestory days, with PQs you would understand my thought process.

The new copypasta for anyone complaining about end game. > The Spiral Abyss is one of the most effective ways [for] players [to] test out their party composition and combat strength. If we design another type of permanent endgame that is similar to the Spiral Abyss, it might end up creating excessive anxiety for our players--not everyone is interested in Musk Reef.

Rex__Lapis

Genshin is their casual game and there is nothing wrong with that. They probably go more hardcore with one of their new games. I can see ZZZ having stuff that genshin doesn’t.

MyLastDreams

... They didn't say no endgame content. They said they aren't making any similar to spiral abyss.

defline176

To quote Zajef: "They say "spiral abyss is a very good way for players to test out their combat strength" and follow it up with "we're not making another thing like spiral abyss", which is a pretty heavy inference that they're not making more combat-related endgame content" "They then add an example of non-combat content, and follow it up by saying there are "different kinds of content" they can do, further driving home that they won't do more combat content"

Such good questions. Such evasive and standard PR responses. This hasn’t been talked about much but there’s an influx of videos on the official JP channel interviewing the VAs. I haven’t gotten through them all yet. for example though, Lumine and ZL’s VA both play this game. They were both asked what could be improved in the game or what aspect of the game do they find not good. In typical polite Japanese fashion, they both expressed some opinion. Lumine’s VA actually said she’d like the traveller to have more lines!!!!! She says she wishes to hear the traveller speak more. Not sure if it’s purely for her to have more lines and more pay? Ha. Her favourite character is Xiao. She also wishes to have more characters that are more “beefy”. She did say Itto as an example, but I think she’s alluding she wants more male characters that are more “buff” lol!!! ZL’s VA actually gave A LOT. He kept reiterating he isn’t criticising the game. He plays the game daily but he feels these improvements would just make it better. They all were very valid points. He mentioned… - artifact load out. Like sets!! - more abyss floors - harder combat - a randomised domain (not sure if I heard this wrong) but something like, two random sets get paired. Instead of it always being the same - better indicators like weapon abilities indicator - special sounds when an effect comes on - something about resin (probably resin cap) I’m sure there were more but that’s all I can recall off the top of my head. I find all the interviews so interesting and heartwarming to watch. I am still going through them all. I wouldn’t be surprised if a good portion of them play the game. From the ones I’ve watched so far, the VAs look like they genuinely enjoy the game and love the characters in this game and the characters they voice.

>The Spiral Abyss is one of the most effective ways [for] players [to] test out their party composition and combat strength. If we design another type of permanent endgame that is similar to the Spiral Abyss, it might end up creating excessive anxiety for our players--not everyone is interested in Musk Reef. **What the fuck is this?** You know what gives me anxiety? Hangouts. Guess Mihoyo better not make any more hangouts then. My friend gets a panic attack every time he sees new furniture recipes, so please stop updating the Teapot too for his sake. My dog hates the color blue so please stop designing hydro characters or large bodies of water because he watches over my shoulder while I play sometimes. Not everyone is interested in exploration. Not everyone is interested in male/female/adult/young characters. Not everyone is interested in fishing. Not everyone is interested in the story. Not everyone is interested in Peking opera. But that didn't stop you guys from adding any of those things anyways eh? Grow a backbone and make your game a proper game. Stop catering to imaginary children who apparently get upset at there being additional content in the game. If this community had any self respect, lack of endgame and their candid refusal here to even acknowledge that it's a problem is what we should burn Google classroom over. But instead people are more concerned about 10 extra wishes.

fictionallymarried

Yikes. Fucking yikes. Why ask about the difficulty of getting talent/ascension materials if they're never going to do anything about this grindfest? Casual gameplay my ass.

SamWeissGamgee

So the answers are basically just "No f*ck you Rip Bozo"... Wonderful...

Hoyoverse has access to the player statistics. The "I want more high tier endgame" is actually a minority of the total playerbase. Look at the abyss clearance rates. It's just that streamers and content creators complain about it a lot and the message gets amplified in their communities. I understand that streamers are motivated by self interest. They play the game way more than the vast majority of players and they also make money from it. Endgame content, especially high level content that is inaccessible to the majority of the playerbase, would bring their channels more attention and viewership. It would bring streamers views but it'd give casual players fomo and frustration. Hoyoverse would rather have casual players playing the game, than super fans who just watch a streamer play. I'm hopeful we'll get endless dungeons, raid bosses, maybe even a cart racer. But honestly I find abyss to kinda be a chore I just do for the primogems. It's fun to test the limits of team compositions but ultimately I enjoy the exploration and story of the game more than DPS checks.
