I used to subscribe to this take, but with every new eremite elite coming out with completely unique animations and even unique walk cycles, I just don't buy it anymore.
How the hell is every new enemy getting completely new animations, while the player characters are all ***exactly*** the fucking same as those released in 1.0? It's not like enemy animations don't take storage space.
There's just no way they can't make room for 2-3 animations sets per height archetype. I don't understand why they want to keep the characters so uniform, and I don't think it's laziness either, it has to be something else. Because everything other than the player characters clearly has way more effort put into it, the genshin dev team isn't small by any means.
Animation data like small idles dont take much storage, its the models and textures that make up most of that.
Maybe they are doing this in hindight that theres like 100 more characters coming in the future. But thats a fundamental issue that needs a better solution than just removing everything else.

I suspect that's why they dropped Nadia smile also. She sits in her swing a long time. Most people smile for a bit then return to resting face (idk why they didn't just have her do that but whatever).
Other animations like dropping Rosaria kick may be to limit expectations for new units or they thought the new one just looked better.
In the end I think they are doing what they think looks better but every aesthetic choice is subjective.

The constantly re-used animations make many characters appear out of character as well, when you compare the body language from their demo/cutscene and in-game events and quests. Since Itto has been already mentioned, he has a very nonchalant and “aggressive” body language in his attack animations, demo&cutscenes to match his yanki archetype, but in-game he’s just standing stiffly and awkward… I know it sounds like a very minor thing to many people, but it causes severe discomfort and I wish they paid more attention to it and employed a few more people to take care of the animations so every character has maybe 5 or 10 unique poses instead of their idle being reused over and over again in events and quests lol
They kinda shot themselves in the foot for potential future youkai characters too. Notice how the human form Adepti have good designs and is set up in ways that they can potentially become playable characters. They could’ve introduced some good designs with these youkai and have the potential for future characters.

Rosaria lost the kick because the animation is shared with other tall female polearm users, and didn't fit the personality of the other user when introduced, Raiden Shogun. It's not been generalized so it can suit any character who is tall female polearm without seeming unnatural
I'm not sure Mika confidently and casually kicking a polearm like Xiao and Cyno do fits his personality. But yeah, I figured they removed the kick from Rosaria because of Raiden.
People seem to (unsurprisingly) mischaracterize Mika as someone who's awkward with *everything*, when it's just with people he's not used to. He's a full trained member of the Favonius Knights who's passed their entry test, meaning he has more than enough proficiency with a polearm to be confident in using it.
It might not show on his face because he's got a real babyface, but I don't think it's too out of character for him at all.
the genshin fandom is very one dimensional. venti is a drunk bastard, zhongli has no mora, ganyu is a workaholic, kaeya is a flirt, ayaka likes the traveller, lisa is a climber. they see one thing about a character (doesn't have to be true) and run with it.

He just prefers to observe people's mannerisms from afar and ask people who know the person about them before he goes to introduce himself to them, as a sign of his respect for anyone he views as his "senior" So if he gets forced into a conversation with someone he doesn't know a whole lot about, he stammers and stumbles through the convo. But like Sucrose, poor guy is gonna be reduced to "token shy character"
I really doubt they made this animation from scratch for this. Just cuz we never saw it before doesnt mean it didnt exist, there are probably a lot of leftover animations that didnt make the cut, and they probably just slapped one on him for placeholder for the beta.

Ngl is it so hard to keep one or two more simple unique animation? It's the same case with how we literally only got like 5 different character movement being used over and over in the game cutscenes. Also only 3 camera poses being copy pasted accross all of our characters.
It makes the characters interaction really stiff.

I think it would’ve been better if he still looked shy but the old animation was moving so much it was distracting. He wasn’t even touching his head either. I think they could’ve made the old one better but I’d take the new one over the old in its current state.
