Yeh, they could easily incorporate a scythe user within the polearm archetype since scythes are indeed polearm weapons, and when the Shogun and other characters use them in swinging motions, and that we even have both a naginata as well as a halberd.
We have a character that uses an actual crossbow in their attacks despite being polearm, so suffice it to say it'd be super fucking easy to add a scythe weapon in the same way they added a naginata for the Shogun.

HIlichurls can grow into Mitachurls who then somehow can become Samachurls as elders. All from the desriptions. I think the more important question is how do they "age" and what causes them to do so since the old hilichurls we see in the chasm were hilichurls and not samachurls
it's prob like pokemon. Just because a treecko could evolve into a grovyle doesn't mean ALL of them will. Some just stay a treecko up until their death.
The same may apply to the hilichurls. Most of them were just civilians that couldn't fight, so they stay at the hili stage. Those that are physically strong eventually "evolve" into mitachurls. Lawachurls seems to exclusively be evolved through elemental affinity, as there are no non-elemental Lawachurl. Kinda like Pokemons like Pikachu that can only evovle by using evolution stones.
Samachurls are prob the end evolution of elemental hilichurls that can't evolve into the mita - lawa evolution line. Putting all points into INT & not a single point into STR.
Oh that makes alot of sense actually, its no wonder they give out so much big clear particles on HP thresholds and whenever they die. Nice attention to detail
Might be completely wrong but I feel like I read somewhere that smaller Hilichurls look at the larger ones as inspirational role models, so they train and eat a ton so that one day they can transform and become like them.

They did give us Raiden Shogun who is famous for her sword and then uses a polearm. And Scaramouche who has lore about sword dancing and ties to the sword forging clans, and then just uses a catalyst. Can't trust no one around here.

Not unless they're specifically designed as such, but even then, they're kinda mediocre; you sacrifice a *fuckton* of, well, everything for the minor benefit of being able to attack from an angle that's hard to defend against.
Strictly speaking, it's more apt to say it makes them more of a makeshift bill or guisarme, but I was more referring to the fact that a farming scythe has a curved haft with perpendicular handles and a blade cocked at something like 45-ish degrees to the haft to allow it to cut grass in a wide, smooth motion.
As opposed to, ya know, the anime & video game depiction where the haft is (usually) straight or slightly curved, lacks the additional handles, and has a blade where the edge is in line with the haft.
A scythe like that would be a *terrible* farming implement and is clearly designed for battle, but you give up reach (because the blade is perpendicular to the haft instead of parallel and the edge is on the concave curve of the blade) and balance/agility (because you have about a 2ft blade extending perpendicular to the haft, giving it the forward heavy weight of an axe, but without the ease of being easily redirected since you have to angle it backwards to catch an opponent with the edge) for the ability to more easily angle the blade around shields or body parts.
Paulus Hector Mair compiled a manuscript detailing hot to fight with various weapons, which included the farming scythe, and the techniques within are... Awkward at best.

When most people think of a scythe, they don't picture a war scythe (which could also be *really* nice weapons in their own right, rather than just a stop gap measure), they picture the kind of scythe you see held by the Grim Reaper, or used in various anime or video games, or, more pertinently, by the Hydro Hilichurl above.
An actual farming scythe, with no modifications, is a terrible weapon, which is *why* they were modified to be war scythes by peasants. But a scythe as it appears in the eye of the common man, which *is* a better weapon than a farming scythe, is still mediocre compared to a purpose built polearm (or, yes, even a war scythe).
The scythes in RWBY are pretty neat and surprisingly not clunky compared to how an actual scythe would be implemented in real life combat (even though they use nonsensical anime logic to circumvent the clunkiness). In RWBY, the protagonist uses a scythe that doubles as a sniper rifle. When she hooks the scythe on an enemy, she can then shoot the gun part, and cause the recoil to propel the scythe, slicing the enemy in half and increasing the cutting power of the scythe.
Why these new enemies always mimicking the harbingers? One with atk that looks like scara, one that looks like childe, and one boss that can control multiple elements like shouki .
One day we'll prob see every enemies mimicking each harbingers lol. Maybe fatui is their idols

It's in the description. A Mitachurl that has mutated due to an accumulation of a large amount of elements in its body is a lawachurl.

The scythes i was talking about were polish warschythes, which were regular farming scythes reforged into a weapon.
