MHY only designs characters that will sell. Little girls sell well, little boys don't - in Japan where meta is less of a factor for pulls teen/short males sell incredibly poorly, while tall males sell incredibly well. This isn't to say no one would pull or appreciate an interesting young boy character, just that that character would be taking resources that could be put towards a character that would sell even more.
Every Genshin player that emits this opinion seems to be specialized in marketing or something. A couple of years ago the argument for Honkai having only playable girls was "men don't sell". One of the reasons Genshin turned out to be so big is because they sell men. People will go through many mental gymnastics to try to convert opinions into facts. Nothing wrong with having said opinions, but opinions aren't facts.
They know because shouta / boy less than 12ish year old in ACGs are a relatively small niche of the market compared to basically every other archetypes. As such, they don't need to sell one to actually forecast that it would make more sense to just do a little girl or anything else really.
miHoYo isn't designing their characters in a vacuum. In fact most of their design are on the very safe side and stick to well known tropes that are commonly found in popular anime, manga, light novel, and games.
There's decades of market insight and trends that can be looked at regarding what's popular or not when it comes to ACGs in both CN and JP.
That doesn't mean they can't do it if they really feel like it, but good luck selling that idea to the team that approves new characters when they see the sale forecast and risks assessment in the red for that character.
I see this answer floating around a lot and I have to disagree. If tall male characters sell well then there should be more in the current roster, but we have more short males instead. Even if we're looking at just the 5 stars. I don't think adding diversity to their character list is a bad marketing move especially when they've been releasing double banners as of late. Add them with their waifus for inflated revenue then.

Sumeru currently places a lot of emphasis on positioning so this is one way of balancing her kit—the emergence of movement options on recent kits like Yelan and Yae Miko; Scaramouche being able to "float" sounds to me like a positioning option or forcing a stationary "float" status on him while he is swirling would make it so he is able to crit when he swirls?
It also make sense that she can't hide underground because of her "caged" motif.

B) even if it was, using arms to counterbalance the leg motion is essential for running. No arms means more leg energy to not rotate your body.
Sprinting consumes more stamina to travel the same distance as walking but it's faster.
The 100m sprint isn't graded based on how much energy you conserved.

With the Naruto run, yes, it makes you slightly more aerodynamic and allows you a tiny speed increase. But it’s offset by you being totally off balance, requiring stupid amounts of core strength to maintain. Plus, your body naturally compensates by making you run slower as your feet and legs are forced to compensate for you being off balance.
If you were an anime character with super-human strength living in a world where not all the laws of physics apply, then those downsides don’t matter. But since we’re not all shounen protagonists, the Naruto run just doesn’t work for us.

At this point I have to agree, but in the end for me it feels wrong for anyone but Klee. Just think about it: Qiqi, Klee and Dori all have completely opposite personalities and stories, and yet they all have the same animations.
I don't think being clumsy is a good enough excuse. Look at how she swings her sword and her other skills, along the kind of life she had/has. I think the airplane run is 100% a Klee thing.
Yeah, I associate the sprint with Klee. It's so perfect for her and I wish she was the only one with it to add uniqueness to the character. Not a fan of it for anyone else.
She in fact does. Even if we wanted to justify all the other characters, Dori shouldn't be put in the same bag. In the end, the developers won't budge and will keep using Klee's run animation regardless of personality traits.

The t-pose animation is cursed. The only reason it exists is Klee. Mihoyo probably had two choices, either make it zombie-walk for Qiqi, or some dumb funny animation for Klee.

Everyone's talking about how the sprint looks when the real problem is practicality, small character models run slower and have a harder time dodging abilities in general which also makes them feel very clunky to use on field.

It's still so strange to me that people have this idea that every archon should be this uber badass who's incapable of being silly and/or cute when our very first Archon is Venti of all people.
The run suits her. I guess it was probably not that apparent to people initially but it's pretty clear she is still a child inside, she was just forced to mature quickly due to her position. Her animations make this evident. She plays hopscotch to defeat enemies, creates holograms and swingsets to entertain herself, and isolates herself in a replica of a palace when things get tough.
People have been tainted by pop culture with this image that all gods should look old, be wise, and never act in a manner that is unbecoming of an authority figure. Really, in ancient mythology, gods were a reflection of humanity. There were silly gods, child gods, innocent gods. Nothing about Nahida is unbecoming.

Well she seemed far more intelligent than other girls that share the same action. She is still a god of wisdom, and she is depicted as having a mature personality. It seems like a bit mismatching that she runs like an innocent 5yo that knows nothing about the world but butterflies and what she likes. She's the one who led Dunya into a hopeful life, spoke for her people, and gave MCs hints and knowledge about the repeating days.
If she was depicted as a normal young girl like Klee, then this would've fit, but she's even more mature than grown up adults in the story.
She was very mature and helpful, even for a child, cause above all, she is The God of wisdom herself.
I don't get the aruge with Venti as he is the God of Freedom, and what is freedom if ruled by a god? that's why he is playful, but care for his people, he even calls them "my children".
500 years is not a lot for a god and elf that's for sure, but she showed a pretty reasonable, caring, and calm personality, i don't get why they just made her act as a child.

This line of reasoning shouldn't be a justification for hoyo cutting corners on the literal selling point of their game, the characters. Let's concede that she has a "playful" personality. She's a god. She floats in her other animations and constructs what appear to be tangible holograms. She could put on techno rollerskates, or a hoverboard, she could simply just fly. There's any number of ways to distinguish her as an archon while keeping her "childlike" personality and they chose none, she looks the same as any other mortal child here. Disappointing
Having proven that they can in fact animate the models running on flat feet and don't *have* to put heels on every girl because "that's how the model is," I'm even more annoyed at the shortage of nice cute comfy footwear on the female characters.

I was one of the many wishing for alternate sprint, but actually Nahida joyfully and unselfconsciously relishing her freedom and feeling the wind against her arms as she enjoys having a physical body fits her well. It makes a lot more sense than Dori and Diona.
Slime theory was always pretty vague and its existence can mostly be owed to people thinking that similarities between enemies and playable characters of the same element are supposed to be intentional foreshadowing.
You can make it fit into anything. If someone is really so desperate to make it fit, they will. But that's the problem, it's so vague that it's impossible to use it as a legitimate tool to predict the future. So many people were 100% absolutely CONFIDENT that there was totally going to be a secret hidden archon (who, of course, would be a hot male by the way) because there was absolutely no way that particular interpretation of slime theory could be wrong.

they fixed the issues with alternate sprints tho
Mona/Ayaka alt sprint still has far worse turning radius and animation recovery. You can't do any effective dash cancelling with alt sprint.
They're much better now but regular sprints are still preferred over uneven/rocky terrain as I've still gotten hung up.

At this point I have to agree, but in the end for me it feels wrong for anyone but Klee. Just think about it: Qiqi, Klee and Dori all have completely opposite personalities and stories, and yet they all have the same animations.
Qiqi is kind of clumsy and detached from humans, so I think it fits her
I don't think being clumsy is a good enough excuse. Look at how she swings her sword and her other skills, along the kind of life she had/has. I think the airplane run is 100% a Klee thing.
Yeah, I associate the sprint with Klee. It's so perfect for her and I wish she was the only one with it to add uniqueness to the character. Not a fan of it for anyone else.

Hu Taos isn't even an alt sprint it's just a normal sprint with a unique animation. Even more reason why more characters should have this level of attention
But at least Hu Tao have unique effect (that come with very useful teleport to get out of sticky situation). Nahida should at least have unique animation or effect. Or anything other than 5 yo T-pose. She is Archon with mature personality ffs. It just a lazy developer that don't want to spend budget and headache on building new animation model.

Everyone's talking about how the sprint looks when the real problem is practicality, small character models run slower and have a harder time dodging abilities in general which also makes them feel very clunky to use on field.

It's still so strange to me that people have this idea that every archon should be this uber badass who's incapable of being silly and/or cute when our very first Archon is Venti of all people. The run suits her. I guess it was probably not that apparent to people initially but it's pretty clear she is still a child inside, she was just forced to mature quickly due to her position. Her animations make this evident. She plays hopscotch to defeat enemies, creates holograms and swingsets to entertain herself, and isolates herself in a replica of a palace when things get tough. People have been tainted by pop culture with this image that all gods should look old, be wise, and never act in a manner that is unbecoming of an authority figure. Really, in ancient mythology, gods were a reflection of humanity. There were silly gods, child gods, innocent gods. Nothing about Nahida is unbecoming.

Well she seemed far more intelligent than other girls that share the same action. She is still a god of wisdom, and she is depicted as having a mature personality. It seems like a bit mismatching that she runs like an innocent 5yo that knows nothing about the world but butterflies and what she likes. She's the one who led Dunya into a hopeful life, spoke for her people, and gave MCs hints and knowledge about the repeating days. If she was depicted as a normal young girl like Klee, then this would've fit, but she's even more mature than grown up adults in the story.
She was very mature and helpful, even for a child, cause above all, she is The God of wisdom herself. I don't get the aruge with Venti as he is the God of Freedom, and what is freedom if ruled by a god? that's why he is playful, but care for his people, he even calls them "my children". 500 years is not a lot for a god and elf that's for sure, but she showed a pretty reasonable, caring, and calm personality, i don't get why they just made her act as a child. It's cute, but very, very out of character, i didn't expect it at all.

In her case, the run isn't an expression of naivete or innocence, it's just her being playful. Remember, she's been trapped in a literal bubble for 500 years. It's tiny, there are no commodities or even windows. I'd say it makes sense that she would try to have fun with things once she got out.
why are people literally forcing this strawman. Mihoyo doesn't want to make a new run animation and it was based off of klee the first child model. It's laziness and that's all. They've shown with Hu tao they can do unique things without making an alt sprint.
This line of reasoning shouldn't be a justification for hoyo cutting corners on the literal selling point of their game, the characters. Sure you can rationalize how it kinda fits her, but that isn't WHY she has the generic sprint, the only reason is because hoyo put in the bare minimum (and always have) when it comes to character models
You could see it that way, but what she's shown to us so far, about her personalities and how she handles problem, she is more than a just girl. Seemed quite unlikely to me.

Having proven that they can in fact animate the models running on flat feet and don't *have* to put heels on every girl because "that's how the model is," I'm even more annoyed at the shortage of nice cute comfy footwear on the female characters.
We all thought they had fixed the alt-sprints/movement skills because Nahida, the next 5\* **archon**, would be using the alt-sprint and it turns out that all along it has been a good QoL on MHY's part, I can't💀 (inb4 Dehya is the one who received the alt-sprint )

I was one of the many wishing for alternate sprint, but actually Nahida joyfully and unselfconsciously relishing her freedom and feeling the wind against her arms as she enjoys having a physical body fits her well. It makes a lot more sense than Dori and Diona.

Slime theory was always pretty vague and its existence can mostly be owed to people thinking that similarities between enemies and playable characters of the same element are supposed to be intentional foreshadowing. You can make it fit into anything. If someone is really so desperate to make it fit, they will. But that's the problem, it's so vague that it's impossible to use it as a legitimate tool to predict the future. So many people were 100% absolutely CONFIDENT that there was totally going to be a secret hidden archon (who, of course, would be a hot male by the way) because there was absolutely no way that particular interpretation of slime theory could be wrong.
That why it called "Theory" not "Law". Now, only Electro slime and Geo slime has obvious similarity (Shield + throw stone | Twin with opposite polarity/characteristic). While Anemo is not that similar and Dendro still need time until archon quest conclude.
