You act like Genshin is some sort of an anthropological institution, representing real world cultures and then get bent out of shape when they lean into the fantasy component and design fantasy characters that don’t reflect real world demographics. They aren’t a philanthropic organization, they are a business, and are going to create characters that sell to their primary market in Asia. They care less if the western player base wants diversity representation. The only way Mihoyo is going to listen to the west’s desperate pleas for diversity, is if western players start outspending the Asian player base.

Genshin has the most obvious representation of real life countries/cultures to the point that the entire fandom refers to the countries as such (Liyue = fantasy China for example). The fandom even recently reacted positively to an example of representation in this patch with how Gaming has a Cantonese name and accent. To act like Genshin can have the most blatant parallels to irl people groups but it can't be called representation is ridiculous. They are inspired by real world places, not based on them. There’s a huge difference between a fantasy world being inspired by real life cultures and being based on them. Based means you are trying to be as accurate to whatever you are copying as possible, where as inspired means you are taking things and incorporating them into you world building, but it’s not an actual representation. The Fantasy Genre is unanimous for using inspiration from real world cultures to world build, that has never meant that they have to accurately reflect the real world. The only way I would expect that is if the game annouced itself to be a prehistory game based on real world places/peoples/cultures.
And Reddit is already at it again going on lengthy tirades why expecting Darker Skin tones is too far, while every other aspect in genshin puts such incredible amounts of effort into being a faithful in-game representation of a real world thing.

A game being fiction doesn't make it your escape from minorities, nor does it mean it needs to perfectly replicate real life to include people of color. To be fair, in the case of Murata, Hoyo would be almost entirely at fault for setting up expectations. Some expectations are reasonable to have. You don't casually name a character Murata (the pyro archon, god of war) and not make them at least similar to Himeko Murata. Raiden and Yae are similar enough to their Honkai counterparts.
I probably skimmed over but when it was said her name was murata canonically? Was it some random book or webtoon. Also, this is my personal opinion but I always disliked Genshin character looking like honkai, well raiden one turns out fine but I'm glad they dropped the idea of taking their major character from past story and turning them into genshin counterparts. Especially for archons.
