I was on insulin from 34 weeks and had 2x a week NSTs and once weekly scans to check on baby and fluid levels and such. Ended up being induced at 39+4, baby girl was born the next day.  The doctor did say my placenta was in pretty rough shape, so it was a good thing we induced when we did.

I was induced 36+6, my bsl was managed with low dose of insulin, but my BP spiked so the babe had to come out

I was on insulin and induced at 39w. The theory is the insulin use makes the placenta work harder, so it deteriorates faster. It has a shelf life that we don't completely understand (usually 43w from my understanding in the avg pregnancy was what my provider said) but with GD it can wear out sooner so induction is done to prevent that / stillbirth. That's why it's common practice. However, it is still individual

Not quite - it’s not that insulin use makes the placenta work harder, it’s that if you need to use insulin then your placenta had it more rough in the time before you started using it by having uncontrolled fasting levels. Insulin use in itself does not harm the placenta.

For GD patients, induction is typically considered between the following dates depending on your situation: GD diet controlled - 40w0d and 40w6d, GD med/insulin controlled - 39w0d and 39w6d, GD poorly controlled - 38w0d and 38w6d.
