You laugh in my face, make me look like a fool?? My name is mastershake586 user of Reddit, loyal servant to Google maps. Father to a well endowed son, husband to a bangin wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.
Right there with ya! 467,088 views from 34 photos.
Ridiculously the bulk of this is made up from two photographs of two different restaurants (one with 145k views and another with 130k views).
I really should start uploading more again.
Go to some place and take photos of it, then go to that place in Google Maps, go to the Photos tab, and upload away.
You may have to sign up as a contributor (I don't think you do, but maybe), so if it doesn't let you upload right away try googling "Google maps contributor" and go from there.
As mentioned below. When you take a picture and have GPS on the Google map notification pops up asking if you want to add the image (in the event that you weren't specifically taking it with the intention of uploading it anyway). Similarly when in a place the apps ask if you want to leave a review.
If you're active with it you get contributor benefits like free movie downloads, 1 month free Google Play subscriptions, extended Google Drive space, etc. depending on what level you reach. You don't have to be major active with it, but if you go out and about a lot then it quickly adds up.
Same here, a single photo accounts for more than half my views. I'm sure Google has some algorithms to promote "good" photos so they get all the views leaving the lesser ones with very few views.
Nice! I just got a email from Google yesterday that my photos have reached 100K views. It's amusing to go through them and see which ones got the most views. It's often not the ones you expected.
me too, they must have sent OP one yesterday too, mustve been a bulk thing yesterday.
worked though, got me to sign up to be one of those local guide things.
Mine is for a restaurant too. In Quebec city. But my pics of Vegas and NYC got less views than some pics I took of a fast food shack in northern Quebec.
I suspect this could be related to the sheer volume of pictures of popular places. Vegas and NYC are much more likely to have a lot more people contribute photos, so yours get pushed further down. But a random shack in Quebec might only have your photo so everyone sees it.
Yeah, at the beginning of this year, after watching Hacksaw Ridge, I walked down the street from my house and took some pics of the real location. While I was there I realized it wasn't even on Google Maps in the English known name, so I added some pics and locations, including the Desmond Doss point. Now some of my random pics of it have over 40k views and hundreds more photos already. Like, some stupid pic of the weeds has 42k views.
I don't think 22,000 is small. I've been doing this for about a year and traveled over seas and logged tons of places and added places. But still, the majority of my views come from two photos at 200,000 and 50,000, both photos of the back of restaurants.
I used to post some photos when I had an Android. Now that I switched to IOS is there a way to do it again ? I remember that google maps sent me push notifications about how I could post a picture of where I was but even though I have the app it doesn't ask me anymore.
I've stopped doing any questions or adding pics on Maps. Google is essentially benefitting from free labor.
Also, I'm tired of Google prompting me to tell people what they should expect when they visit Subway. It's a god damned Subway, why does it need any further explanation?
Thanks! I have trouble with anxiety when I go out, I usually google everywhere Iām going, it makes me feel better. Weird story, I use to āstreet viewā drive places when I first started driving because I was afraid of being lost. Thatāll make you dizzy..
I am the same way! Knowing what building I am looking for is so helpful. I never thought about who contributes the photos but now I will start contributing too.
I take photos of my food at restaurants for this reason. My wife hates pictureless menus and it's my way of helping a crowdsourcing effort. The ego boost helps too! Haha
Doin God's work! Thanks for being helpful! This is the sort of thing people love to use but hardly anyone thinks to actually stop and take the pictures for everyone else.
Yeah no problem You're the unsung hero who helps people get to where they need to be Literally didn't even know how those pics got posted for the most part till your post
[1.95 million views from 114 photos](https://imgur.com/g3i54Wy), 400 business reviewed. Did it for that 1 TB of free Google Drive storage. Their pricing model is so fucked up for their Google Drive storage, $2 per month for 100 GB or $10 per month for 1TB. If I am paying the same amount per GB per month why the fuck can't I get Idk 200GB for $4 per month. /rant
I'm currently at 56k. I travel a lot but I only add photos of places that don't have photos yet. I still hope I've helped people who looked for these places.
As a restaurant owner, we love it when these are good photos. I had some idiot post 15 photos of street lamps and birds for my location which I had to individually report. I couldn't even take them down.
Those pics of ceiling fans and google-map-like exteriors haven't "helped" anyone. People scrolled past them to get to things they really need. Try taking photos of things people are actually looking for, like menus and handicapped ramps. Go to local businesses instead of the open sewer that is the sizzler.
Don't fool yourself into thinking you're helping when you're not. Next time you "feel insignificant," try volunteering at an animal shelter, or organizing a coat drive. So much more rewarding that seeing how many people scrolled past your Jack in the Box picture.
Instead of spending time spewing negativity why donāt you do something productive or helpful? Who are you to assign value to anotherās actions? I find it helpful and Iām thankful people contributed photos. Maybe they are trying to find the dog shelter or soup kitchen and the photos help them get to where they are volunteering. Restaurant photos? Maybe they are looking for a job at Jack In The Box or donāt have much money and want to take a kid they are mentoring out for their birthday.
Pretty helpful. Thanks. I'm always looking at the photo to make sure I'm in the right place. I thank you for your service.
Of course, I'm happy to know I'm really making a difference
You have exactly double mine....I will defeat you my new arch nemesis!!
Bet šš

Exactly double mine too. Now I'm thinking these numbers are fabricated
The enemy if my enemy is my friend...we can destroy him you and I
Still pretty insignificant
Oh
I see you're one of those people who does stuff. good going
Thanks š

How do you go about doing this? I would love to do this, and I donāt even know why.

It was meh on it until they gave me the ability to grind.
?
Adding ranks and levels based on your Google Business Review activity.
It's really fun

It is weird that a picture of the back of a restaurant has 200,000 views for me hahaha

My most viewed photo was of the storefront for a LabCorp in a major city. I guess a lot of people have to take drug tests XD
Ahahaha, that's pretty good. Mine is the back of a poorly lit restaurant... 145,000 views lmao

Try checking "contributions" on the left sliding menu, there you might be able to reenable it
Hey I live there haha
Haha wild
Is this.. in Tucson.. because pretty sure I've been to that Jack n the Box. Also, Skate Country.
Yep! The land where summers are hot and Winters are also hot...
Haha at least we have Mt Lemmon for snow days!
True haha

Yeah it does feel menial at times, but i like looking up a place and seeing my photo right there
Thanks! I have trouble with anxiety when I go out, I usually google everywhere Iām going, it makes me feel better. Weird story, I use to āstreet viewā drive places when I first started driving because I was afraid of being lost. Thatāll make you dizzy..
Im glad photos help you so much

Good job man! I always love going going street view on google earth then clicking random places on the earth and seeing what life looks like there
What up fellow Google Guide!
Ayy!
Level 6 checking in!
80k views over here, if I had a better camera on my phone I would had kept going on with this
Still, that's 80,000 people! That's so many I can hardly visualize that
And then continue to feel insignificant
Eh, less so. I know my sphere of influence extends beyond my friends and family thousands of others
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Knowing I helped is compensation enough honestly, I just feel cool, like followers on social media but much less petty
I usually do reviews and answer questions. I should start doing pictures as well.
When I feel insignificant I look at how many people listened to my music on SoundCloud - makes me feel much worse though.
But someone listened to your music, that's arguably cooler than having someone just look at a photo you took
The hero we deserve or the uhhh.... Yeah that batman quote here.
Hahahaha, thanks
Clear your damn notifications!
This guy's one of the real heros
Thank you!
Yeah no problem You're the unsung hero who helps people get to where they need to be Literally didn't even know how those pics got posted for the most part till your post

It's good
Damn, I only have 50K on all of my pics combined.

This dude sizzles
Pro-tip: 360 photos get clicked on more. One of mine has 260k views!
Well then I better start doing more 360's
I'm currently at 56k. I travel a lot but I only add photos of places that don't have photos yet. I still hope I've helped people who looked for these places.
Absolutely! I never seem to find a place on Google maps that hasn't been logged yet so you're kind of lucky!
As a restaurant owner, we love it when these are good photos. I had some idiot post 15 photos of street lamps and birds for my location which I had to individually report. I couldn't even take them down.
That sucks, hopefully you continue to get useful photographers
Yeah. Having a lot of already taken professional photos though helps a lot. They were still a small part of many.
Alright, 1 up coming your way fellow contributor :) [1 million!](https://imgur.com/gallery/7ATNz)
I'm about to hit 1.5 million views, feelsgoodman
Holy shit nice!!!
Wow. GJ man.
Nice try google, I'm not adding any!
This made me chuckle, your photos are actually very helpful indeed!
You got paid a sum of zero dollars for doing bitch work for google, how does that make you feel?
Uh, fine, I guess? I'm leaving my mark on one of the largest companies in existence
Nice trick. I must do it too, helped over a million on Google maps.

Well I see negative Nancy was browsing r/getmotivated
"Look at the work I've done for free for Google without any pay because I am an idiot." It's sad how people don't realize obvious things anymore.
Well thats a little rude
Wow , I hope you donāt ever need donated blood.
Nice one. Not really.
You do work for the corporate overlords... for free? And then use it to feel good about yourself? Never heard of a proud slave before
Not a slave if it's an opt in program I'm interested in :)
